Episode 278 - Chat GPTB

Ben, Brad, and Nate get into one of their heated conversations about a movie that isn't really worth the hullabaloo: Mayday. Brad thought it was okay, Ben really liked it, and Nate is neutral because he hasn't seen it. Meanwhile, Ben watched Masters of the Universe, and he didn't get it. Do you know the difference between Cheez-Its and Cheese Nips? Test your skills! Plus, we talk about the trailers for Ink (THEY BROKE THE NEWS!) and Street Fighter (SHORYUKEN!). Hey, ChatGPT, is this episode great? You don't need AI to know the answer is, "Eh, kinda."

[00:00:16] Hey everybody, it's another episode of Go Flix Yourself. My name is Ben Konowitz and with me as always is the fisto to my he-man, Bradford Oman. Hey that's me! I'm gonna fist ya! And the ram man to my he-man, Nate Loucks. Just like a ram. Honestly, sounds exactly like that. I don't know if, maybe we're getting a little ahead of ourselves, but I saw Masters of the Universe. Whoa, calm down, jeez! Yeah, we get it.

[00:00:46] But before we continue, welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. It's been a minute. We are back on the air, live in the studio, in the basement, talking with Nate Lauchs, Brad Oman and Ben Conowitz about the latest movie news, trailers and- You know what, I think I prefer Italian Ben. Let's bring him back, alright? I need Italian Ben instead of that. Scusi, Scusi. Please talk to the people about what we have seen. Whoa, hold on. Do we have a mailbag?

[00:01:13] We do, guys. Mailbag! Is it an Italian mailbag? Do an Italian mailbag theme. Oh, okay. Uh, dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun. Got you at the end. I got you at the end. I'm happy with the way it turned out. This one goes from a long time- Piece of shit. Sorry. Long time listener, Mitch. Oh, Mitch. He says, I did get your magazine Dreams reference, Ben.

[00:01:43] Yes. Well, I don't even remember what that was. He made a reference to the movie that Jonathan Majors was in and like maybe five people would know who listened to the podcast. The other person that I thought would know actually was Tyler Whitney and he did tell me that he understood it as well. Yes. Hey, listen, I'm here for the deep cuts, boys. Ben lives for Jonathan Majors content. Hey, true. Wait. All I'm saying is wait for all the facts to come out.

[00:02:10] Also, Mitch says, honestly, still so heartbroken about that dude, man. Also stoked to hear the games are back. Well, I don't know if they're back, but we had one. We had one. And Chad GPT made it. No, it did not. Ben actually did a good job with that one. I'll give him credit where credit's due. I know, but guarantee you. We got to tell him we did a good job without Chad GPT so he stopped relying on it. No, I guarantee you he used Chad GPT on that. Guarantee you. Ben? What was the game? It was the movie that have the in the title. Guarantee you.

[00:02:40] So 100%, you're allowed to use it to collect. Hold on. Hold on. Who said? Hold on. Hold on. Who made the rules? Me. Because this is the way I will use it. It's like, hey, Chad GPT, try to provide me a list of all the movies that have the or whatever. And then I will verify. My lesson was, don't just trust it. So then I went through and I spent about two hours just looking up the titles, making sure they're accurate. You could have just done that from the beginning. It's a lot harder, though, because you're still Googling it and it's still going to come up with it.

[00:03:10] Like, AI is everywhere now. Everything. It would only come up, if you're Googling it in 1999, it's going to come up with articles that have already been written about that subject. But if that author did the research themselves and then published that article, if anything they missed, though, would not be relevant. So GPT does a good job of scraping the data. But you have to verify it, buddy. Sure. You've got to verify it. Seriously, Brad. Here's the thing that I'm concerned about, though, is because you said you make the rules for when you can use ChatGBT. Whatever the fuck you call it.

[00:03:38] It's very good for just scraping information and giving it to you. It's what you do with it, man. It's interesting. Seriously, Brad. Yeah. But that's like putting, I don't know, Jack the Ripper in charge of women. I don't really get that analogy, but okay. Oh, he killed him. Yeah, but it would be like saying it's harmful to do that. But in this case, it wasn't harmful. We had a fun game. No, but you're right. That's what I was saying. It's harmful. But it wasn't. No, but just don't use it. Anyway. Now, Ben. Okay.

[00:04:06] Before the podcast, you were saying some stuff that you want to get on the air about this Lindsey Clancy trial. So go ahead. I don't even know what you're saying. I don't even know what this is. Yeah, I actually don't either. Do you guys really not know? Is it the person that is going to be put to death because she killed her kids? I mean, I don't think she's going to be put to death because they have a mistrial. But this joke really didn't work because you guys don't watch the freaking news. I had heard that there was a person that killed kids and then people are up in arms because it's not. Hold on. I'm going to defend myself here.

[00:04:36] Obviously, I'm sure you've seen the news lately, right? Yeah. That's how I know who Lindsey Clancy is. In general, you watch it? Yeah. No, I'm a newbie. Did you say it's fun to watch, Nate? No, it's not fun. Yeah. So I kind of don't go out of my way to watch it much anymore. I've got this talk called anxiety. Brad's got this thing where he buries his head in the sand and doesn't do anything about anything and hopes it gets better. I hear about the important stuff. I'm not sure this is the thing that's going to shake my entire universe. Yeah. You didn't even know about it either, you piece of shit.

[00:05:04] Why don't you ask Chet GGB to give you a roundabout fucking headlines every day so you understand? Stop mispronouncing it. Also, it's popular enough that you would know it. You know what? You stop talking about President Reagan. President Reagan. It's not even... It's President Reagan. Okay, stop saying... He's popular enough that you should know how to say it. It's not because I don't know how to say it. It's because I don't give a fuck to get its name right. That's why I call you Bartleby. Get your BBTB keys out of your T-Bs. Also, just come with a better name for it. They had to call it Chet G-T-B-T-B-P.

[00:05:35] They couldn't call it Bentley or something like that? Or Gorbo? Claude. Well, Bentley... Yeah. There's better names for AI out there. Bentley and Gorbo were two failed open-air concepts before Chet G-T-B-T. Let's call it Chet with three letters where two of them can easily get jumbled in someone's mouth. By the way, what does GPT stand for? Go ahead. Gumbo Pussy... Whoa! Good God! That got wildly aggressive. Really? Don't love that at all. You know, though. Go ahead.

[00:06:06] It's... No, I don't. Global positioning. Wait, wait, no. The P is protocol. Okay. The G is generative? Yep. Generative protocol technology? Okay. It's not protocol, but it is generative. Pre-trained Transformers. Yeah. Which is really cool. Oh, that's not cool at all. Shia LaBeouf knows about it. It sounds like exactly what something like Elon Musk would like. He would call a new AI system Skynet. No, he would call it Boner. Skynet.

[00:06:36] And it would... Yeah. That would stand for like... White power. Beyond only new environment registering. Yeah. Boner. Uh-huh. Anyway. Hey, Nate. Yep. Thank you for the mailbag. You're welcome. Thank you, Mitch. Mailbag! Thanks, Grover. Thanks, Grover. Hey, Brad. Do we have a... Do we have a chat GBT sponsor? Absolutely. The fuck not. We don't. Who's our sponsor this week, buddy?

[00:07:05] Well, Ben, let me ask you something. How do you feel about a nice cheese cracker? If I've got something to drink, I like it. Okay. If I have to eat it raw and dry... I've never heard anyone talk about eating a cheese cracker raw. He doesn't like a raw dog. I like a cooked cheese cracker. He doesn't like a raw dog. Cheese cracker. If you're going to tell me to put something dry in my mouth... Careful. ...and I can't moisten things with, it's going to be really hard in my mouth to do so. Actually, go on, Ben.

[00:07:35] I just don't like a raw, dry snack. I've got to have a good soda or something with it. All right, so you've got a wet, a hard snack. You've got to whistle the wet, wet the whistle. Yeah, okay. Yeah. That's weird. I don't think it's that weird. I have to have a liquid compliment. Sure. No one's ever said it like that, you fucking robot. What? A liquid compliment? Yeah. This is a liquid complimentary... Excuse me, can I get a nice liquid compliment to go with these chili fries? I'm sorry that you use the same five words every day of your life. Expand your horizons.

[00:08:05] He's just turned into a real piece of shit lately. Get a vernacular instead of vocabulary, okay? He just learned that word. Doesn't mean I'm not using it properly. I might not be. What, uh... Is it cheese... You look like you got a raw bag of cheese nips there, buddy. Because the box just gave everything away, and I didn't want to ruin it. Because it says cheese nips on it? No. I mean, it's fine if you know... These are cheese hits. It's fine. Are they cheese nips or cheese nips? They're cheese hits. They're cheese... Get it right. What is the... Oh, he's calling them cheese nips. I know. He's an idiot. Well, there's no box.

[00:08:35] That's what I just said. But how would I know? They look like cheese hits. First of all, cheese nips look different. What is the difference between cheese nips? There you go. Nate, you don't know either, and neither do you probably. No, I don't. Fuck both of you. Then how would you know there's a difference? First of all, fuck the both of you. You literally sit here, and you shit on high like you're fucking no exactly, and then you don't know. The flavor is different. You piece of garbage. You piece of cheese nips. Anyway, give me the bag. Don't spill this.

[00:09:03] I closed it, and it's only open a little bit, so... Right at the computer. Right at the... I saved it. I saved it. Cheddar's are milder, thinner. What do they look like? And they were discontinued in 2020. Is that what Chet TBC? Fuck. Now I messed it up. There you go. Yeah, you fucking idiot. Why don't you learn something? Why were they discontinued? Are these old? Because they were discontinued? No, these are cheese hits, you idiot. Yeah, that's all you can get.

[00:09:33] That's all you can get. Well, and better cheddars, but those are circular. These are good. These are good. I thought you liked things that taste like other things. Well, I'll tell you in a second what these are supposed to taste like. These just taste like regular Cheez-Its. Do they? No, they don't. No, they got a little extra something. Okay, you know what they taste. Do they taste like the actual thing or no? A little bit. I mean, this is more of a variation of cheese than it is a completely different flavor of a Cheez-Its. Like Pepper Jack?

[00:10:03] No, Pepper Jack. Is it like a queso? It's not. There is a little bit of a kick to it, though. I'm surprised. That's why I said Pepper Jack. No. This is Coors Light Beer Cheese. That's why it just tastes like a Cheez-It. No, it's Coors Light Beer Cheese flavor of Cheez-It. It tastes more like a queso to me because it has that little bit of kick. There's a little bit of a kick, but you do get a slight beer cheese flavor right at the top, and then it turns a little spicy. A little bit. Is beer cheese spicy? You know what? Just like Coors Light. It can be, but yeah. Coors is where the spice is.

[00:10:32] That's their new slogan. That's their slogan. Tap the Rockies is out. Yeah, Coors is where the spice is. Coors, where the spice is. Yeah. Those are pretty good, actually. They don't quite taste like how I thought they would, but they're really good. Coors, the banquet beer. I don't think I could eat a whole thing of them, because I think the flavor will get tired after a while. He stepped on my joke. I don't think it will. It was a good joke. It wasn't that great of a joke. Don't worry about it. Actually. Coors, the banquet beer. Brad, what are those flavored pretzels? It kind of has a little bit of flavor like that. Oh, the Dots pretzels? Yeah.

[00:11:03] Yeah. I can see that. Yeah. Yeah. Oh, Ben's sleeping. He's so old. Oh, God. Are we still talking about Cheez-Its? The dude's 45. Yeah. And I'm handsomer than ever. Well. Okay. That was a little too much of a pause. Fine. Fine. You're wearing a bike racing shirt. I'm not. I'm wearing one of my buddy's Gutter Company shirts. Yeah. It's in the style of a bike racing shirt. It's just a shirt. Jesus. You know, you told me to put a shirt on, so I put a shirt on. I didn't tell you to put on the douchiest shirt you own.

[00:11:32] It's not a douchey shirt at all. It's a Gutter Company shirt. I stand corrected, I guess. Exactly. Just kidding. Hey, Brad. I got a question. Okay. Did you see any movies? You know, I've seen some movies lately. Did you? I did. Oh, I can't wait. I saw some movies. I wish you guys could see my face right now. I haven't seen a lot of new movies. It's so frustrating. But I've seen some movies. Okay. I actually watched a couple movies again because I ended up doing interviews for them for Slash because they're just now coming out.

[00:12:01] They're movies that played at Sundance earlier this year, and I watched them remotely. And they're coming out. One of them, I think, is out now. It's called The Musical. And I won't tell you the full premise of the movie because they're kind of trying to conceal in itself. And I don't remember if I mentioned it when I talked about it at Sundance, but I don't really want to, except I'll just say it's about a teacher who enacts revenge on his school's principal because he started dating his ex-girlfriend, who is also a teacher.

[00:12:32] And the teacher is played by Gillian Jacobs. The principal is played by Rob Lowe. And then the main guy is an actor named Will Brill, who has been on Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and stuff. And he is fantastic in this movie. And it's a dark comedy. And it has the style of a paranoid thriller a little bit. And it is just downright hilarious. So dark comedy? Dark comedy. Dark comedy. It's kind of like a dark comedy version of School of Rock, in a way.

[00:12:58] And the source of the comedy comes from, he's in charge of the school musical. And his revenge is making the musical something that's going to be very controversial once it debuts in front of the people who are supposed to see it when they're up for this big prestigious school award. And I won't say what the topic of the musical is, but it is extremely wrong for any school of a middle age to be doing this. And it's just the way it's executed, the final act is some of the funniest stuff I've seen in a long time.

[00:13:25] I got to talk to the writer and the director for it, which was really interesting to be able to talk to them about. So yeah, that's it. I think it's playing in limited theaters right now. Is it Full Metal Jacket? No, it's not. It's September 18th. Oh, okay. There you go. So it's on its way. So you'll be able to see it soon, hopefully. Short. Only 87 minutes. It is, yeah. And it was based on a short, actually, that they made as kind of a proof of concept of what they were going to do. But it's very good.

[00:13:52] So see the musical and don't look up any details if you can. Don't look it up. Just watch it. Yeah. Even the trailer does not give away the big thing in it. You learn pretty early on in the movie what it is, but they've successfully hit it. It's Hamilton. Thanks, Nate. You ruined it. That's controversial for sure because the movie takes place in Indiana. Yes. We love Indiana. I've actually often thought of that is when Hamilton gets optioned to local theaters. Right.

[00:14:22] What's LaPorte going to do? No. We're not going to do it. We're not going to do it. Not going to do it. The other movie that I rewatched is a movie called The Incomer. This is a movie that is from Scotland and it stars Donal Gleason and a couple other Scottish actors. Gail Rankin and from getting the name of the other guy who is in it. It's an O name. Patrick O'Shaughnessy. It's Grant O'Rourke. That's it.

[00:14:52] I was forced. Gail Rankin. Grandfather is? Mickey Rooney. Rankin Bass. Yep. Is that true? No. That would have been an interesting detail to learn about it. From the Claymation studio? Yeah. Oh, nice. But no. So this movie is very funny. It's in the style of like early Taika Waititi stuff. It's a little bit quirky, very funny. It has like a folksy feel to it. It's kind of like hunting for the wilder people is one of the better comparisons. Okay.

[00:15:16] But it's about this adult man and woman who now are in their like late 20s, early 30s and they've been living on this isolated Scottish island by themselves after one of their parents left and died and then the other one died on the island with them. And so since they were kids, they've been stuck by themselves and fending for themselves. So they have this weird view of like what the mainland is like and how they live their life in this strange kind of tribal way.

[00:15:44] And then Donal Gleeson is a guy who works for the immigration office who comes and tells them that the government is seizing the island and they have to leave, but they don't want to. And so it's very funny. He's hilarious in it. Both Gail Rankin and Grant Overwork are really funny in it as well. And I got to talk to director, writer Lou Paxton and also Donal Gleeson, which was pretty fun. Is it Donal? It's Donal. Or is it Domino? It's Donal. So Donal. It's one of those weird... Or is it Domino? It's one of those weird Irish names.

[00:16:14] Because it looks like Domino? Exactly. And I used to think it was that. And then a while back, I found out it was one of those Irish names where it's Donal. Gotcha. And then it's kind of like similar to like Shearsha. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, and it looks like it's Say-O-Ir-Se, you know? But yeah, he was great. He was... It's Paul Dano. He was wonderful to talk to. And so that was really enjoyable. And also, on a related note... Did you know that it's also Ben Styler? Ah...

[00:16:43] I'm just putting that out there. Do some more mispronounced name jokes. It's Jake Guyenthal. We've done that one before. And I hear it. That's a Seal Conowitz. Scraping the bottom of the barrel. No, I'm not. No, I'm not. We're just not taking this podcast seriously anymore, guys? Yeah. Or what? I'm taking it very seriously. I'm as serious as Daniel Day-Leus. No one even pronounces W like that. He does. He does. No, he doesn't. But you should have said like Levis or something. No, it's Leus.

[00:17:13] That's why it looks so weird. It's like Domino. Nate, can I talk to you for a second? Where'd you guys go? He's loaded again. We gotta stop this. I just don't understand why he does this. Yeah. And he's like... He's really sucking back on some liquor right now. You can hear it. I know. And he's just... Well, here's the thing. He's off the wagon. When somebody quits drinking, then they start drinking again. And they go back to the level that they were... What are you talking about? Ben, Ben, hold on, buddy. Wait, hold on. I'm in here alone.

[00:17:42] Hey, hey, hey. Here. Let the adults talk. Go play with this Rubik's Cube. Oh. That'll keep him busy for an hour. I know. That's the thing. Also, he smells. Oh, trust me. He smells like a fucking... Brad, I broke it. Yeah. I broke it. Can I have another one? No, that's the only one we got, buddy. Okay, I'll be over here. Anyway, I watched all... So, Domino Gleason. Domino Gleason. The Paper, season two. Okay, yes. I didn't...

[00:18:10] I watched the first episode of the... I didn't get into it. So, the first season, you need to go to about episode three or four. That's when it really starts to hit its stride. Because I felt the same way. I was like, this is okay so far. Can I come back in? Oh, sure. Oh, okay. What are you guys talking about? Don't worry, bud. Talking about gutters. Without me? We wanted to have like an honest open... Wait, were you talking about a TV show? No. Okay. So, the paper...

[00:18:41] You son of a bitch. Season two comes out on September 9th. And it'll be out in... I think either the day this comes out or tomorrow or something. It also comes out. Yeah. September 9th, right? I'm looking. Yep. Anyway. It's very funny. He's very funny in it. Really good show. I also got to talk to one of my comedy heroes. And another person who I didn't realize actually was... Ben Steiler? ...was quite as big of a deal as a comedy writer. Greg Daniels. I got to talk to Greg Daniels.

[00:19:10] Oh, that's a big get. Yeah. I was very excited. Coenzee's. One of Coenzee's best friends. Yeah. And so, he's a co-showrunner and executive producer. He's also the co-creator of The Office, the US version. And he's done King of the Hill. He's worked on The Simpsons. He worked at Saturday Night Live for a few years during the Phil Hartman years and everything. Michael Komen is the other... Parks and Rec. ...is the other co-showrunner. And I didn't realize this, but Michael Komen's comedy bona fides are pretty fucking high as well. He worked on Late Night with Conan O'Brien for years.

[00:19:36] He was one of the people responsible for the creation of the Walker Texas Ranger Lever. Nice. On Late Night. Lever. Whatever. He also wrote for Saturday Night Live as well. Jesus. He also worked on Nathan For You. He's worked on so many things that I love. Wow. So, I talked to both of them because they work on the show and that was great. And I did get to ask them... He's married to who? Leslie Hedlund. Ellie Kemper. Oh, that's right. I did read that. I forgot. Yeah. Wonderful. Good for them.

[00:20:06] Their bond is unbreakable. It's Kimmy Schmidt reference solid. Yeah. You can't even laugh at my shit. You just gotta like... Oh, that one's not bad. He gets mad at it. You know what? That's what it is. He gets mad at it. That one's not that bad is all I get anymore. That one's not that bad. Is that where we're at these days? I think it's mostly because you're always just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. A lot of it sticks. I don't know about that. A lot of it stinks. Hmm. It's shit on a wall.

[00:20:47] Hmm. The whole episode goes live. Fucking clickbait motherfucker. Well, we have to hold on to it because we talk about some spoilers for the paper season two. So it's not out there. Okay. So you're on something at the paper. I'm under embargo. For SNL? No. For the paper. Yeah. You can talk about SNL though. The interview is under embargo. Oh, it's not though. No. It really is. Not about SNL? Yes, it is. The whole interview is under embargo. Sorry. You don't know how... It's not how that works. That's not how that works. No. That's not how that works at all. No. Hey. Do me a favor. I ran through chat GPT and that's not how it works. No, no, no, no. You know what? The next time you...

[00:21:16] I can use chat GPT right now. I ask him. The next time you have a gutter job and someone says, hey, can you do me a favor and just put this one piece on the house? You're going to do that? You're going to put that one piece on? Yeah. Or do you have to do the whole job? No. I mean, we do partials all the time. No, no. That's just terrible analogy. No, no, no. It's one piece in the middle of the house. None of it's done. We'll do whatever the client wants. No, you won't. That's bullshit. I know you won't do that. One piece of gutter. Yeah, we do it literally every day. You don't do it every day. This is...

[00:21:45] You're just following apart with this analogy, buddy. Anyway, I'm glad we're talking about TV shows. Yeah, we're talking about TV shows featuring movie stars that are hilarious. Well, you know what? Keith David is a movie star and so I've been watching President Curtis. Oh, the Rick and Morty spin-off? Yeah, it's really good. Is it? I haven't watched it yet. It's really fun. It's just really fun. It seemed like it would be. It's the definition of a good spin-off. How does it separate itself from Rick and Morty? It's very... It's not clever the way they do it. It's just very like, oh, there's a nod to Rick and Morty.

[00:22:14] They show up to say like, oh, and then it moves on. It's not a constant thing whatsoever. Right. It's in that same universe though, so that there are monsters and vampires and weird shit that happens. And that's where they draw from. But it's basically about him being the president and then his two right-hand, almost secret service slash liaison people. And one of them is an android and the other one is a half leprechaun. Okay. That on his honor can never tell a lie. That sounds fun.

[00:22:44] And so, and it's because his, I guess the narrative there is his mom, like he hates his mom so much that he'll never tell a lie. I can't really remember the impetus, but it's really funny because like they bring it up a lot. Like he'll tell the truth because he has to. And he's like, well, what do you do when you have to lie? I just don't talk. And so they'll ask him a point blank question that he would have to lie to and he just stares at him. And it's just, it's a really funny bit. So yeah, they have a lot. And because it's set in that kind of shared universe, there's enough silliness around

[00:23:11] there that goes on and they definitely allude to the fact that motherfucker, I've punched a werewolf before. They talk about things that have happened shared collectively. And so that's what makes it fun. And it's 22 minutes. It's an easy show to watch. But yeah, I tried to watch it a little bit. Are they releasing it week by week or do they release that binge model song? So I don't know when it came out because I've been watching episode by episode. Yeah. I think it came out one after another. I think right after the end of July is when it started.

[00:23:39] All right, well, I'm through four episodes already and I think there's more to go than I can watch right now. Yeah, but there's only four episodes. It came out. No, no. I mean, like there might be more. I'm just through four. So I think they're all out. It's July. No, it's not. It's July 26th was the first episode. Oh, cool. Then I'm just behind. Cool. Cool, cool, cool. Yeah, yeah. It's a lot of fun though. Cool. Yeah. I'll watch it. I like it. I like it.

[00:24:10] It's a little bit of a slow period before award season stuff starts hitting. Is that pick up in like October-ish? Yeah, usually that's when they'll start screening stuff that's playing some of the festivals that hit awards. You know, like because Toronto International Film Festival happened in September and then some of those movies will start coming out and then Chicago International Film Festival will also hit. And so I'll be able to start seeing some more of that stuff in October and whatnot. KIF. KIF. Is that what they call it?

[00:24:37] I don't know if anyone ever calls that out loud, but that is the abbreviation for it. Nate, what have you been watching? By the way, there are five films this year that have made over a billion dollars worldwide. What are they? Wait, let's go to Ben first. Like name as many as I can? Or just go back and forth? Of the five. Well, Spider-Man, Brand New Day. Avatar, whatever, whatever. Fire and Water. That's last year. I'm not sure that counts. No, it doesn't. Oh, it was last year already? Yeah. Oh, shit. Okay. Avatar, Fire and Water. Let's go with shit.

[00:25:09] God, like the Minions? By the way, Spider-Man, Brand New Day is number one. It's made two billion. 2.4 billion. Good God. But Minions. Minions versus Monsters. The Minions versus Monsters is not. It is number nine. It's made over 500 million. Okay, then I'm done. What do you have, Brad? Super Mario Galaxy. Super Mario Galaxy is number five. That's just right over a billion. Toy Story 5. Toy Story 5 is 1.1 billion. Supergirl? No. No, Supergirl bombed. Yeah.

[00:25:39] Comparatively, I suppose. Supergirl genuinely bombed. It really didn't do well at all. Like, what is Supergirl? Like, 200 million? 300 million? I don't even think it hit that, honestly. Maybe worldwide. Supergirl did 1.2. Yeah, what are the other two? I'm blanking. All right. You might not have seen them. The first one is number two, The Odyssey. Oh, God. Idiot. Duh. 1.6. And then this one's a little bit shocking. Michael. Oh, that makes sense.

[00:26:09] Not shocking. Not shocking. Disappointing. Disappointing. Not shocking. A little bit like, you know. Oh, Fart Patrol 6 made a billion dollars. Yeah, not surprising. But. All right. Fair enough. All right. So. What'd you see? Speaking of. You watched Michael? I did see The Odyssey. Fart Patrol. You saw Fart Patrol 6? I took Molly to see The Odyssey, my fiance. Yeah. And she had not seen it. And it was my second time seeing it. We did not get to see it on. IMAX. IMAX or EMAX or anything like that.

[00:26:38] Because they weren't showing it on EMAX anymore. Were you seeing it at a port-a-potty? You watched it on your phone? Well, here's what I said. Either we go see it in a regular theater or we wait for it to come out at home. Or you don't see it at all. We've got The Odyssey at home. Let's just see it in a regular theater. And it was great. But I. What I've loved about this film and seeing it. I saw it first with my son Finn. Then second with Molly. Is the. It is. It does what a great film like this. Like an epic film does.

[00:27:06] Is we had great conversations in the car afterwards. About the meaning and the symbolism and all these kind of things. And how incredible it was. The filmmaking. And I don't know. I had already seen the film. But seeing it again a second time. It was just special. I still need to see it a second time. I really want to. They're extending the IMAX dates into September. To the end of September, I think. So I think I'm going to get a chance to see it on the IMAX. It was fun to see some of the details I didn't see in the first one.

[00:27:35] Just because you know you're. When you see it for the first time. You're kind of anxious and anticipating. And this one I got to see a little more detail. Loved it. But then I saw a film. It's not getting the accolades yet. That it should. Kangaroo Jack. Coyote V. Acme. Oh no. Well let's be clear. It's gotten the accolades it should. It's just not necessarily being. It's not a huge hit. He's doing a bit you idiot. He's not. Look at his fucking face Brad.

[00:28:05] Read the room. Trying to like push. He says a little small movie called The Odyssey and you're all over it. And then you think that he's really that dumb. That he doesn't know that Coyote V. Acme is getting a ton of accolades. It's good. It was at 100% of Rotten Tomatoes. He knows that. I don't think it's at 100%. It's at 95 now. I don't know. But it was. It premiered at 100%. I did get to see it. How dare you? Based on. I was going to see it anyway. But what you said about it really made me want to. And I got to watch it with my future stepdaughter Vesper. Loved this freaking film. Isn't it so great?

[00:28:34] It is so much fun. It hasn't done tremendously well at the box office. It's not terrible. But it's over 100 million, right? It's made 40. No. No. Really? Yeah. Not yet. Man. No. I was hoping that it would do way better. It might have legs. Because it's a $75 million budget, right? Something like that. Yeah. But it's only been out two weeks? Yeah. Yeah. Well, go see it, everybody. Come on. Go see it. Did you see it? No. I actually am thinking about taking the boys to a matinee tomorrow. They would love it. No.

[00:29:03] I really do want to see it in the theater. I want to support. But it's good. It's so good. So, so good. Yeah. If you're looking for a film to go. I mean, you don't even have to take a kid to this. It's good for everyone. It's got a nice heart to it, too. It does. I wasn't expecting it to have this amount of heart that it does. It's kind of, Brad, what we've talked about on the podcast many times, kid movies don't have to be bad movies. Exactly. Exactly. And this is really good. The other one I watched is a documentary on Netflix, a docu-series called The Death

[00:29:32] of a Pastor's Wife. Have you seen this yet? I haven't even heard of this. This is the freaking craziest documentary. Don't ruin it. I won't. Does she die? You'll have to watch it to find out. But, dude, it is crazy. And it is only like two years old. Like this story. The story, yeah. But if you have a chance to see this, the dude is just, sometimes you just wonder how

[00:30:01] people get away with crimes and then you watch it and you're like, how is this guy not in prison? How is this guy not in prison? I say that about a lot of people, though. But I watch this. I like that Netflix does these series. They're pretty cheap series to be made, but they're kind of just- So it's a series? Well, it's three- it's a docu-series. It's like a mini-series. I will say, it kind of bugs me. And I think that they- I'm pretty sure that they do this intentionally. Of course they do.

[00:30:30] Because they don't want to make it seem daunting to have to sit down and watch an hour, 45-minute, two-hour crime documentary. But if it's broken up into pieces, then people are like, oh, I can watch this and go back around to it. Three or four, 45-minute ones. I'd much rather they do that, though, than the thing that they're doing, which is, hey, make sure that you repeat the dialogue a lot, because people are going to be on their phones while they're watching this and make it a two-hour movie, and then it's just shit. But at the same time-

[00:30:56] I'd rather focus up on three one-hour long digestible episodes because people have time for that. I'm fine with that. But at the same time, though, it's a different animal because it's true crime, and so they still do the thing where they repeat information and stuff like that, because they do kind of the recap at the beginning. No, I get it. So that's annoying to me. I've seen so many documentaries on Netflix, and it says docu-series, and I look at the runtime, and it's like, that could have just been a movie. It's two hours, right? Yeah, it could have just been a movie. Just make a fucking movie, you know? Right, right.

[00:31:23] But why does that matter, though? Or do you just really want the movie form? They're only doing it because it increases their profit. Yeah. That's all they're doing it for. There's no narrative reason to do it whatsoever. Yeah, it makes it so that the person thinks it's easier to watch because they can watch an episode, come back, and finish it later. They don't have to sit down and pick up something that lasts two hours. But that is true, though. Right? That is true. I know. I hate it, though. Because it's not for him. Because he has the time to sit down for two hours, but other people don't.

[00:31:49] But it's also, it's not necessarily designed to be episodic because if you're going to sit and binge watch it anyway, then what the fuck does it matter if it's episodic, you know? Most people who are watching those things, they're probably not breaking them up because they get sucked into it anyway, but they just don't want to commit to a two-hour movie. But it doesn't give you the option, though, because if you want to binge it, it's like a film. If you don't want to binge it, or if you don't have the ability to binge it. But then it has the hallmarks of a TV series where they give you a little bit of somewhat of a cliffhanger, but the cliffhanger doesn't matter because it's like,

[00:32:19] I'm going to watch the next one ever. Yeah, sure. Yeah. I think that also it's one of those things where we train people how to treat us. Oh, for sure. MTV stopped playing music videos because it wasn't popular anymore. They went to reality TV. People are benefiting, or Netflix is benefiting by people going, well, I'm not watching documentaries unless you do it this way. Yeah, it's like when people complain about Dollar Generals being built. Do you think Dollar Generals aren't doing the market studies? You're like, I just hate there's another Dollar General.

[00:32:47] Stop by the Dollar General on your way home to pick something up. Exactly. Stop going there. I feel like Amazon's just ruining the planet. Anyway, my Amazon delivery's here. I've got to go get it. Shut the fuck up. Yeah, as much as I complain about shitty billionaires, I fucking love it. I was going to say, I do really enjoy Amazon. I do love getting cheap shit. We're all going to go to hell together. I don't know. Anyway. Benny, what did you see, buddy? Yeah, you been watching anything? I saw Mayday. Oh, actually, I saw Mayday too. I forgot about that. I did too.

[00:33:17] Just goes to show you that it's not that memorable of a movie. That's the only thing I saw. What did you think? No, it's okay. You can just shit all over it. We don't really need to cover it then. I'm done. Oh, yeah, because we've never done a thing. Wait a second. You said this is an 81% on Rotten Tomatoes. Why do you hate this? I don't hate it. I just think that it's... Here's the thing. This movie is perfect. If it's Ryan Reynolds doing Ryan Reynolds stuff, I'm okay. It's part of Ryan Reynolds doing it. I really like that. It's fine. I guess just... Let's move on. You know what? Ma-na-na-na. Let's watch some trailers. Hold on. Ma-na-na-na. We watch some trailers.

[00:33:47] Listen, you saw me. Ma-na-na-na. Let's talk some trailers. Hey. Ma-na-na-na. Trailer time. All right. Trailer time. Okay, hey. You little flaccid. Hey, I gave you a trailer song. Hey, hey, hey. I did my job. Stop being... No. I'm all in. This is the way you want to run the show? Shut the fuck up. No, we'll run the show the way you want to run. No, shut up. It's great. You don't get to... You matter and we don't. No, no. It's fine. You don't get to do your job out of spite. Sure I do. You sensitive little Sally. No, it's fine. We move on. Oh, my God. Nate has a hard out anyway, so we're wrapping up here pretty soon. It's 317. His hard out's at four. Yeah. We're good.

[00:34:14] You guys are navigating the hard out really carefully, by the way. Yeah, we're trying so hard, man. We really are trying. Here's the thing. Yeah. People give their opinions about movies they've seen all the time. Yeah. On this podcast. I like the hand gesture. Yeah. This is an audio podcast, by the way. Nothing says that you couldn't have said, oh, yeah, I saw it, too, and then continue to talk about it. Well, there's also something to be said for like, you know, it was my turn to talk about

[00:34:42] the only movie you saw, and then you just interrupted with, oh, yeah, super forgettable, moving on. Like, it's all right. I didn't say moving on. You said moving on. No, you were very dismissive. No, I didn't say moving on. Of the movie, not of you. That's all right. Of the movie, not of you. You can be dismissive. You little snowflake slut. It's okay. Okay, but I was the one that's like, oh, I want to see this. Yeah, no, I liked it a lot, actually. Okay. Did you really like it a lot? I really did. Comparatively, like, what do you like it as much as? I feel like most people do like this film. No, I mean, I just think that I liked it a lot because of, and it's because Ryan Reynolds

[00:35:11] is always going to be Ryan Reynolds, right? So if you like him, you like him. He's the one note that I love. Exactly. And I'm okay with that, but that's not really why. I liked Kenneth Branagh. Branagh? Branagh? Branagh. I loved him in this. Branagh. He was awesome. Like, I watched the movie for him. It was, he was so fun. So he was the part to me that didn't feel like it fit. I think Kenneth Branagh's a great actor. I like him a lot. I think he's a great filmmaker, too. But for me, he felt really miscast in this movie. No. I disagree.

[00:35:38] Like, I would have rather seen someone like Bob Odenkirk or John Malkovich or somebody in that role. Do they need a, like, a tougher guy? No. No, he's, if anything, Kenneth Branagh sold the action part immensely well. Yeah. Like, he does John Wick level stuff in this. And I was thoroughly impressed. It's Bob Odenkirk in nobody level stuff, which is just what I'm there for. And also, great Russian accent. Actually, I disagree with that entirely. I think his Russian accent was not good. There were plenty of times where he didn't feel authentically Russian to me. Oh, you know, see, I don't, I'm not from Russia.

[00:36:08] So from an American perspective, I was like, oh, that sounds like a Russian accent. I'm all in. He didn't take you out. No, not at all. Anyway, I didn't think his Russian accent was good. I didn't think that he really felt like he had any real chemistry with Ryan Reynolds. Yeah, I disagree. I thought that they were great together. And I wish that Ryan Reynolds maybe would have had a little more to do as far as, like, the action side of things. Okay. Because even though he does have parts where he's doing stuff, they do really give Kenneth Branagh most of the spotlight in that regard.

[00:36:38] There are some really cool set pieces and fun things that happened. And so this is from John Francis Daly and Jonathan Goldstein, the directors and writers of Game Night and Dungeons & Dragons Honor Among Thieves. I like them a lot. And I think that both of those movies are infinitely better than what this does. There's some cool stuff in here. I like the way they shoot action. It's very propulsive. And, like, the kinetic movement of the camera is great, the way it moves through action sequences and stuff like that.

[00:37:02] But this movie had a lot of the problems that I think a lot of other modern action movies have where the contemporary visual effects add a sheen to it, especially for a movie that's trying to tap into, like, 1980s nostalgia of, like, Cold War era stuff. And everything just feels a little too bright, a little too nice and touched up. So, Nate, I watched a fun action movie that was, like, a bit of a buddy cop adventure.

[00:37:29] Like, it was, yeah, I didn't throw it through the lens of that. I just, like, it's a popcorn movie. It's a fun action movie. It's a fun movie. Definitely worth a watch. And I laughed enough, and it was a good enough action, and the actors were great. And the plot made sense, and it was grounded enough for me. It's a silly over-the-top action film where you were driving a nuclear missile through a crowd of people. But, like, it's not over-the-top bonkers Fast and the Furious level.

[00:37:58] But it's, so, like, it found its lane. And then the direction and the cuts of, like, the car driving down the road and the way they shot it and the DP on it was probably pretty good because I love the way they framed things. I actually really liked it. But I'm glad you did. I just wasn't impressed by it. I thought it was fine while I was watching it, but I don't, like, there's nothing in it that, like, stood out to me as, like, memorable. Or I was like, oh, I love that. Or, like, oh, I'm going to tell so many people to watch this.

[00:38:28] Like, it was just, I was frustrated about it because I love Dalian Goldstein as filmmakers. Like, Game Night is one of my favorite movies of the past decade. And I liked Dungeons & Dragons a lot more than I thought that I would. And so, seeing this, I was hoping for a lot because you can feel them wanting to tap into the kind of movies that they did make a lot more often in the 1980s. Because, like, it calls back to 48 Hours, Midnight Run, you know, like, those style kind of things. But it just, yeah, I didn't connect with it.

[00:38:58] It just didn't feel like it hit it out of the park for me. It was good. Nate, you'll probably like it. I probably will. But, again, though, I don't think I'm watching it with the lens that you're watching. I want to, for two hours, have a fun time in a film. See, I'm going to push back against this in a serious way because I get really frustrated when people say stuff like that to me just because I have the job that I have. I'm not trying to watch every movie and hoping that it is an Oscar winner or –

[00:39:26] But you have the lack of perspective. No, no, that's – No, no, no, stop. Brad, you have too much perspective. No, that's – You've seen everything. So it's definitely not going to be as good as – No. But I don't have that same – I've watched one movie in the last month and it was way better than it should have been for me because it wasn't bad at all. It was actually really good. But that doesn't – that's not the same thing, though. And it's still dismissive of my perspective. It's not, though. Because I can watch a movie like Fast X and have a fucking great time with it.

[00:39:54] And that's a stupid as fuck movie but it's very entertaining and it does hit with me. And I have a great time watching it. I didn't have that with this. I know – But if you've seen 5,000 movies and I've seen 500, though, you're going to pick up on so many more things because it is your job. And therefore, I lack the capacity to get there. You don't like the capacity. I do. No, you're not. You're not an idiot and you watch tons of movies and you understand how they're made and you understand what makes them good. Yeah, but I – but then – but why are you dismissing the fact that I liked it?

[00:40:24] I'm not dismissing the fact that you liked it. I'm glad you liked it. I wish I liked it. I'm not saying that you're wrong for liking it. I'm telling you that what I felt about it and what I saw in it is not the same that you saw. But then why – if I say that I liked it, though, why do you take that as an attack on you? I don't. I'm not at all. Then why are you so heated about it? No. What I'm heated about is the way you describe how I watch things and that like, oh, it just – because you look at things differently. And in a way, I do. But it doesn't mean that I can't enjoy movies that are meant to be silly or that you're meant to check out for two hours and just enjoy them. Sure.

[00:40:52] It just means that I see them in a way that because I've seen so many that I do focus in on certain things that don't connect to us in the same way. It makes me sad, though, because you have so much that you see. It's like somebody in their craft watching something go badly and you're like, damn, man, this could have been so much better. But anybody else that doesn't know enough about it goes, yeah, from my perspective, from what I've seen, I just feel bad that you can't enjoy it like we enjoy it.

[00:41:20] But I feel bad that you don't get to enjoy movies that are better because you're watching stuff that is just okay, that I think is just okay. See, but Nate and I sincerely enjoyed The Odyssey. I really like that. And that would be more of a premiere film than this movie, than Mayday, right? But I still had a lot of fun watching Mayday because I don't have to look at it through the lens of like, oh, well, there's so much better that could have been done here. I just don't have that next level to get to like you do.

[00:41:48] I mean, you do and you don't. It's just that it's – I think that you have more of a selective thing, especially lately because of the limited time that you have. So I think that it probably paints the lens there too because I don't have that much time. If I watch something and it's pretty good, then I'm like, man, thank God I watched that. It was really good. And then if I look at it like that was dog shit, I feel like I wasted my life because I should have been watching a better movie.

[00:42:11] But I also think that that works to your disadvantage sometimes too because I think that maybe sometimes you end up enjoying something a little more because you had a good time with it and you wanted to have a good time with it. And your time is limited. But then when a movie maybe isn't as good as you want it to be, you're maybe harsher on it because you don't have as much time to give. And so then you feel like you wasted your time. So to that end, I did not like Masters of the Universe. See, that is crazy. I like the first half an hour. I like the setup.

[00:42:41] And then after that, I was like, okay, this is just pretty run in the middle. What didn't you like about it? But we always talk about you should live in the universe that you build. And I like the first half an hour with one huge carve out. There's just no way that that jacked muscle man in this weird universe that is built where he's a pussy and he is so nebbish and weird. And then when he gets the sword, he becomes this. Do a CGI. Do a CGI.

[00:43:11] Do a Captain Rogers CGI. Make him look weak and then make him look strong. No, no. He looked like he filled out the entirety of that polo or that button-down shirt. Like he could rip somebody's arms off just sitting there in that HR meeting. But they painted him like he's a wuss. But he would have to go to the gym all the time. He goes with the Dolph Lundgren scene and he's like a newbie at the gym. No, you're not, man. You look like you can lift a car. Come on. This is so silly. I don't disagree that he definitely still filled out that shirt even though it made him look that.

[00:43:37] But that's also part of the core of the movie, of the idea of tackling toxic masculinity. And what it means to be a man. And the way that he acts isn't necessarily lined up with how he looks. And so he's supposed to be someone who is like, feels like he's been kicked down and doesn't live up to what he was supposed to be. Because of the way he was treated. Then you don't have a guy that literally lives at the gym play that role there. Well, you do because he still has to be He-Man at the end of the day.

[00:44:07] And they did that pretty well with Captain America the First Avenger. I don't disagree that he doesn't look like, he doesn't look for a week enough. It takes me out of the movie immediately. So I didn't focus on that. I focused on the other stuff. And I had a lot of fun when they were on Earth. And then they, you know, Idris Elba's character and all that stuff. That stuff was just really, really ham-fisted. Like, he's drunk now and he's just like, it was all just very pain by numbers. I disagree wholeheartedly. I think that it was the opposite of pain by numbers.

[00:44:36] Because I was expecting this to be like just a lame, nostalgic cash grab. Like, oh, remember your toys? Again. It was more than that. But because your expectations were so low. But look at Nate. And it was pretty good. And now you're elevating it to a great movie. My expectations are low. Yeah, but you saw Masters of the Universe, right? I liked it a lot. Right, exactly. Yeah, but your expectations were very low, right? Yes. And so you were surprised and therefore does that paint it a little bit differently. Like, oh, it's better than maybe it is because your expectations were so low. Maybe.

[00:45:06] That's all I'm saying. Because my expectations were pretty low and I got what I paid for. Like, yeah, I know it's pretty good. But like, I wasn't blown away by it. But Nate wasn't. Then again, I wasn't blown away. I watched Dungeons & Dragons twice. I'm like, what did these guys see that I'm missing? I don't think you're a fantasy guy. I didn't love it. I don't think you're a fantasy guy. And maybe that's it too. Maybe that's it too. A fantasy guy. Oh. Yeah. Maybe that's it. That's a good point. Yeah. I don't think you often don't talk about fantasy stuff that you like. Because you don't really care about Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings or anything like I like Harry Potter better than I like Lord of the Rings. Yeah. You don't like Lord of the Rings.

[00:45:35] I like it enough. I respect it. He appreciates what they offer. By the way, and it still holds up and it's wonderful. I love Peter Jackson. I love what they do. I love that they gave them the money to do a big budget. But you're not like me watching the standard edition every year. I've watched it once. I've seen him once. He's not a fantasy guy. No. So maybe that's what it is. You're right. Yeah. I think that's part of it. All right. We've nailed down who I am and my persona. So anyway. So you don't like fun. Exactly. But no, there are elements of fantasy. You like comic book movies. I love comic book movies. Yeah. But that's less fantasy though.

[00:46:04] Almost subgenre of fantasy. I would say that's more sci-fi than fantasy. Thor starts to get into the fantasy stuff a little bit. And Thor is like my favorite of the movies though. Like Ragnarok. And it's probably because of the comedy. You are a walking conundrum. I really am. But I think you're right. It's because it leans into the comedy. It's the comedy. Yeah. The comedy definitely does. But also like if they made a big but like I'm in college. I was a huge, huge Xbox guy. I played Fallout, Red Dead Redemption and Bioshock every day. Like I loved those games.

[00:46:33] I played them for hours and I never watched the Fallout show because I don't care about that. But because I don't watch really TV shows. I didn't watch the last of us. I don't know that if they made a big budget movie of Bioshock, I would be the first one in line. And if that was a fantasy type of element where it's a. That's more sci-fi, isn't it? Yeah. It's more like retro futuristic. Like rapture is the city underwater from 19, atomic age underwater. It's got a steampunk vibe, doesn't it? Steampunk vibe, yeah.

[00:47:01] But there's elements of like you shoot electric from your hands and you can give a swarm of bees. So there's the magical elements there. The bees. So I don't know. I think I would love something like that. Interesting. Or at least I'd love the idea of it. I don't know if I'd actually like the film. They were supposed to make a Bioshock movie several times. I would love to see that. So yeah, maybe that's really what it is, though. It's just not my genre. In 2025, Francis Lawrence said that he's going to be working on it after the Hunger Games sunrise. Oh, that's right. There was a reason. Yeah. So maybe it might still be developed. It might still happen, yeah.

[00:47:30] What about literally, speaking of He-Man, whatever happened with a live action Thundercats? Would they ever even try to do that? Or is that such a niche thing from the 80s they wouldn't even try it? No, I mean, they could. Like, I mean, obviously they did Masters of the Universe. And that's a bigger property probably than Thundercats was. Yeah. Because that was pretty much global. And Thundercats wasn't as big, I don't think. I think there's a love for Thundercats out there. I have figures, man. I love it. It was my favorite animated show from the 80s and early 90s was Thundercats for me. Yeah. I don't know if they would these days.

[00:47:59] I saw the fan trailer from like 10 years ago where like Vin Diesel played Panthro and it was just fun. They're deciding, I think, they're deciding, I think right now in June of this year, Warner Brothers Animation announced that they're going to make an animated film of Thundercats. Yeah. Oh, okay. Thundercats. Oh, yeah. So I wonder if they're going to get like a TMNT kind of like treatment of Thundercats, which would be- That'd be cool. I think that'd be kind of a cool way to bring them back. Yeah. Thundercats wasn't for me.

[00:48:26] So that's something that like I would have like no real like barometer for like if I should be excited about it or not. I would really appreciate that just because it was my childhood. That's nostalgia come to life. That makes sense. Yeah. Those are the two films that I watched. And like I said, I watched President Curtis and that's pretty much it. Yeah. Yeah. So don't watch Mayday. 81% of critics can't be wrong. Watch Mayday today. Mayday, Mayday. We've got to report that Brad's unhappy about a movie. Uh-oh.

[00:48:54] If you want to know more about why I'm unhappy about it, you can read my review on SlashFilm.com. Did you actually write a review for once in your life? I did. I did. It's so funny because I was looking for Mayday SlashFilm to see. I'm like, I'm going to throw it in his face. Where's Chris Evangelista when you need him? I'm like, oh, suck on that, bitch. Son of a- Brad did the review himself. Wait a minute. This guy that wrote this kind of likes this film. Oh, Brad. Oh, Ethan Anderton. Son of a bitch. He did give it a six out of ten though. Yeah. Man, that's harsh.

[00:49:24] That's not harsh. Harsh would be like three or four. Six is fine. I feel like six is- Yeah, you're on the lower end of a good film. Yeah. Not great. You can't look at a six out of ten in the same way you would like a D on a grading scale. It's not the same thing when it comes to enjoyment and stuff like that. Fair enough. Because a nine or a ten, that's either a close to perfect or a perfect movie. Yeah, I view five is fine. That's Fart Patrol four. Six to eight is good. Nine to ten is a very good movie. They're all great. Yeah.

[00:49:54] I like the Fart Patrol spinoff Nuggets. That's my favorite one. That's disgusting. The evil dingleberries take over and they try to fight them. It's pretty cool. The Nuggets are just brown minions. But no, honestly though, if you go read my review- Nate, the Nuggets are just brown minions. If you read my review, you'll read the things that I did enjoy about the movie because I didn't dislike this movie. I just wish that it was better. It's thoroughly amusing at times.

[00:50:23] Some would say sporadically amusing. Is that a quote from the article later? Okay. That was fun. It's the headline. Hey, what trailers did we watch? Oh, well, first of all, let's not do it out of spite this time. Let's do a real trailer. That was a good trailer song. No. You don't like The Muppet Show? I felt the anger and I didn't appreciate it. Well, I did my job. So you can come up with a trailer song if you want a better one than I already did. I don't think you can come up with a better one, to be honest with you. You don't like I can come up with a better one. No fucking way.

[00:50:51] Because every time you try, it's just as good or as bad as mine because it is harder than you think it is. If there's something strange in the trailer hood, what you gonna watch? Movie trailers. If you're seeing clips of movies coming soon. What you gonna call them? Movie trailers. Fuck you, Ben.

[00:51:41] Ben. That brings the word into play. I was raised in a trailer and it was kind of like a hood. Cool. Here's the thing. And I think that you don't- Have fun with your fucking podcast. Here's what you don't appreciate about the way we react to it. You got a lot of hand things. You are really handsy today. It's very- It's not the first time I've heard that. Not the flex you think it is. Oh, trust me. I'm flexing. Oh, God. No. So what makes hard for Nate to jump in when you do your trailer song is that sometimes we're not sure what medley you're doing.

[00:52:10] We have no idea what song you're trying. Oh, so now you're just punching down more. It's like a guy with no musicality whatsoever and be like, hey, piece of shit. Do you know how much you piece of shit today? You piece of shit today pretty good on that one. And it's also a pretty big piece of shit. And here's why you're a piece of shit, you piece of shit. No, I love it. Thank you. Which thing you know, it's hard to support when we don't know what tune you're doing. Just mean. Here's the thing. We know you can do- Just mean. Good fake songs because you do them off air all the time. Of course. As soon as the microphone comes out, you just shake your pants.

[00:52:39] Yeah, because you guys, you just shit on me and you just sit over here and you shit on me. He's blaming us for his poor confidence. You guys remind me of the villains in Far Patrol 3. Who were the villains in Far Patrol 3? Stinktor. Yeah, that's pretty good. Anyway. Hold on. Before we finish the Master of the Universe thing and move on to the trailers for sure, do you agree that Jared Leto was actually very good as Skeletor? Yeah. Here's why Jared Leto was so good as Skeletor, because I didn't know it was Jared Leto.

[00:53:09] Oh, really? There we go. So that's why he was so good. There we go. Because I loved the voice. But then when you saw- I loved the character, the mannerisms. Yeah, were you shocked? Well, so that's, to me, I was a little shocked, but that's not necessarily a performance that made it so good. Dude, that's really well written. Like the way that he- Yeah, I'm sure he's got a break into life. But they're definitely saying like, hey, make sure that you do the evil laugh. Yeah. And then you've got to pause for comedic effect. That's great. But that's not Jared Leto. That's anybody doing that.

[00:53:45] No, no. The way the character has been developed for this film. And again, that was a high point for me with Skeletor, for sure. But to also follow up, Jared Leto, pretty shitty person, apparently. I'd just be like, yeah, we're going to find out he's like the leader of a sex cult. For sure. I think that that's already- That's pretty much already out there. Yeah. So I'm not going to give him the praise that you guys do. I said nothing about praising Jared Leto. But anyway, I really did like the character, for sure. Yeah. Let's talk about the two trailers that we watched, since Ben's not going to do another trailer song, and I just did.

[00:54:15] You just did one? I know. How many trailer songs do you want? Nate, you want to do one? I was hoping we might do one. Yeah, see, exactly. No, but Brad and I partner on ours. Oh, cool. It's always two against one. It's like when Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion did that duet together in the 90s called Tell Him. Do you remember that? Yep. It's a big hit. Yeah. Big 90s guy over here with Dolly Parton and Macy Gray. Who'd you say? Dolly Parton, rest in peace, first of all. Yeah, seriously. Don't just throw her to the side. And paired her with Macy Gray. I don't know. I can't remember what you said. Macy Gray didn't even become big until the early 2000s. I don't know.

[00:54:44] What are you doing? I don't know. I just couldn't remember what you said. Barbra Streisand and who? It's not important. You don't remember either? Celine Dion. Celine Dion. I always remember. Yeah, it's a very famous song. So anyway, which we truly want to talk about first? We'll talk about Ink first. All right. New movie from Danny Boyle, director of Slumdog Millionaire and Steve Jobs and Trainspotting. Slumdog Millionaire. This is about Rupert Murdoch and the rise of The Sun, the infamous tabloid newspaper

[00:55:10] from the United Kingdom and how they came to basically ruin the news or break the news. The news broke. As the trailer cleverly uses. It's very good writing in the trailer, actually. I was not expecting to be interested in a movie about Rupert Murdoch or The Sun, but the way Danny Boyle is doing this and the way that it feels like it has the bombastic energy. That's great.

[00:55:38] It's obvious they're going to tear down what they did as far as digging into the scandal. Ruining the world. Yeah, exactly. But do it in a way that has style and kind of leans into that bombastic nature. It's a gritty Anchorman 2. It really is. A hundred percent. You know? That's both telling the story of how the news was ruined by just this sensationalism, clickbaity before clickbait type stuff. Exactly. And they think they're like renegades. Exactly.

[00:56:06] And knowing what they know now, sure, they probably would still do it because there's probably a lot of fame, success, and money that came with it. Of course. My God, it ruined a lot. Yeah. I mean, they're still doing it. There's always- Well, no. That's what I'm saying. You can't put that genie back in the bottle as they say. Of course. All right. Brad, are you bothered that this film uses generative AI? Does it really? Yeah. Where? It uses-

[00:56:31] Part of it is mice scurrying around on the news floor and then animated photographs. Does that bother you? And it says that they use generative AI to create them? Yeah. They say it. Who's they? Wikipedia. That's where he's on right now. Deadline Hollywood. Danny Boyle confirms use of AI in New Movie, Inc. Well, that's super annoying and that really bugs me that Danny Boyle did that. So now I'm not as excited. Okay.

[00:56:59] It says he used about 30 seconds of generative AI. Okay. Is it because they couldn't hire animators to make rats crawl across the floor? I would be willing to bet that it's probably because it was cheaper than hiring an actual animation company to do it. Sure. So that's- And that is maybe the most annoying use of generative AI is because you don't want to pay actual people who have artistic merit. Well, live rats are hard to wrangle, Brad. Tell that to Willard. I will. Where is he? All right. Danny Boyle says- Dead.

[00:57:29] Dead is where he is. This is what Danny Boyle says. Do it in a British accent. I can't. Come on. You can do it. Come on. This is your trailer song. It doesn't really matter. Yeah. This is great. What I think about AI. Yeah. It matters what 20-year-olds think about it. Oh, okay. I like that his British is like Tom Hardy. Yeah. A little Tom Hardy. A little young Michael Caine.

[00:57:58] Is the honest truth. Yeah. Well, my opinion of it is that it's very useful to- Slipped out a bit there. Flipped back in many ways. Yeah. That's good. Provided you use it respectfully. Okay. And provided you pay actors if you're going to replace them with some kind of AI embodiment. Hmm. Okay. So he's got somewhat of the right idea about how to use AI, but he still kind of took money away from people who should have been paid for it. So I don't know. Yeah. Well. But anyway.

[00:58:28] The ball's yours, Brad, with his AI stuff. He says AI is very good for animals. Because you don't have to work with animals. Sure. And money is good for animators. Don't say, what do we ever do before AI? I'm like, ah. Like CGI is good for dinosaurs. Yeah. Talk to Jurassic Park. It's fine. You don't need to do AI. All right. But what do you think about this trailer name? I don't know. I think it needs more AI. Honestly. Okay.

[00:58:57] I love Danny Boyle. I genuinely love Danny Boyle films. And so I'll see it. Name three. I'll see it for Danny Boyle. I mean, Slumdog Millionaire is, I think, just a fantastic film. It is. Yeah. It is. No, yeah. That's an awesome film. And then I don't know if you've seen. He's got a Christmas film. What is it called? Danny Boyle's Christmas. Millions. Have you seen Millions? Oh, yeah. Millions is. I always forget that that's a Christmas movie. Yeah. It is. Of course Nate would know. So good. Well, it's about a dead parent.

[00:59:27] Of course Nate would know. So it is so good. And I don't. Honestly, it's made like 23 years ago. Yeah, yeah. No, it's good. I've seen it. Alex Edel. Has he been anything? He was the kid actor in that? I don't think so. But very, very good. So that being said, what? You're not looking forward to this? No. I mean, I will see this because of Danny Boyle. But the trailer wasn't enough for me to go. I really want to see this because I honestly didn't care that it was the sun.

[00:59:58] Right. I don't think you're supposed to care that it's the sun. And I think you're supposed to be interested in how they're telling the story because it's not like they're building it up like you're supposed to be endeared and like, oh, man, look at what these people did. It's awesome. It's supposed to be like, wow. Look at how Tetris came to be. Right. Exactly. But also, look at how this shit happened. Look at how Blackberry came to be. Look at how terrible the Murdochs are. Like, I don't need to see a film like that. I don't know. For me, it kind of feels like the social network for tabloid journalism.

[01:00:24] So I'm interested to see this because I do want to know, is it a true takedown of it or is it more of a Danny Boyle exploitative nature of the whole thing? Or is it a comment like the social network was? I'm interested in that angle. I think it could be all of those things, honestly. Yeah. But I also think tabloid journalism in England is kind of where that's where tabloid journalism is. And also, it'll probably paint the edges for me. It'll inform a little bit about how it came to power and what splintered off from that and where we are today.

[01:00:54] Those that don't know your history are doomed to repeat it. If it does fill in those blanks for me, I think that that's worth it too. And it's based on a stage play, which I've not seen. Oh, I didn't know that. That's good to hear. All right. It's got good bones then. What was the other trailer that we watched? Well, the other trailer we watched is Street Fighter. And I got to tell you, I was not expecting this, but I am so fucking in on this movie. Yeah. This looks like the movie that Mortal Kombat should have been. Should have been. Wished it was. It looks so fun.

[01:01:24] The tone is great. Yeah. It knows exactly what it is. It's not taking itself too seriously. It's just the right amount of silly and weird and goofy. But the action looks outstanding. It's colorful. It's vibrant. Everyone knows what they're doing in this movie. If you're looking for a way to incorporate the sounds of a video game that is very familiar to your audience, this is the way to do it. Yeah. And I don't even know if the movie has those sounds, but it's at least effective in the trailer. And the action as well, right?

[01:01:53] So how do you do E. Honda's Malta thousand hand thing? It's exactly how you do it. Everything in this trailer is grounded in that universe and built that way. And you're right, it might not be those sounds in the actual movie. I hope they're there, though, because it's great. Yeah. So every part about this makes me want to see this film. Yeah. I mean, give Guile that stupid haircut. Please do. It's so good. Please do. And the fact that you have a wrestler playing him, too, that's going to be a fun role for him.

[01:02:23] Because CM Punk, who plays that? Cody Rhodes. Cody Rhodes. Cody Rhodes, sorry. And then is that the Mountain playing Zangief? I'm actually not sure. Bjorie Horton, whatever his name is. No, it's Olivier Richter. Okay, so just another massive human being. Yeah, he's a Dutch professional bodybuilder and actor known as the Dutch Giant. He stands at seven foot two. I love that. Now, is he also the guy that was in Reacher last season? Let me check real quick. Because there was a... Yes, yes. Okay. Nice.

[01:02:51] Yeah, he's awesome in that role, too. That's just a fun big dude, right? Yeah. Eric Andre looks good in this. He looks funny. Curtis 50 Cent Jackson. I think Eric Andre is the only person who's playing a character who's not in the games. And Kyle Mooney is also supposed to be in this movie as well. Noah Centineo, I think, is really good. I actually like him. I like Noah Centineo a lot. What else has he been in? He was in the Netflix romantic comedy franchise. Yeah, he's kind of been more in Netflix shows.

[01:03:20] What's the name of that? The Pastor's Wife's Murder? No. It's a trilogy of movies. The Recruit? No, that's the show. It's a romantic comedy movie series. Oh, I'm so sorry. To All the Boys. Yes. That's Jason Momoa as Blanca, right? As Blanca, yeah. Yeah, it is. Which is how you use Jason Momoa, by the way. Also, for those of you guys interested, Noah Centineo is the new John Rambo. Yes, in the Rambo prequel that's coming.

[01:03:50] I feel like his career is continuing to slowly, but he's not expediting, but he's continuing to build a good career. We've also got David Desmalchian as M. Bison, which I think is a fun bit of casting. And then also- Yeah, he looks so funny in that trailer. And then Kalina Lang is the woman who's playing Chun-Li. She looks like a badass, dude. I saw an interview with her recently, too, and she even specifically said that when she

[01:04:18] started to do the workout for this movie, that they focused on her thighs, because Chun-Li's thighs are quite an internet thing. They're lethal. Yeah. And for a lot of other reasons other than fighting. Exactly. Yeah, yeah. So, yeah. So, that was something that they actually really focused on, and she really did build up her thigh muscles for this movie. That's hilarious. That's awesome. No, 10 out of 10 trailer. This is how you do a trailer. Yeah. If you're trying to gain interest to get people in the butts in the seats, this is how you do it. I hope it delivers. But like we've said before, though, it needs to know what it is. Yep. And it seems like it does.

[01:04:48] The Mortal Kombat films are not. So, this is like if Mortal Kombat just leaned into the Carl Urban thing the whole way through, because his character was kind of the only comedy relief type thing. Yeah, exactly. Everything else took it way too seriously. Yeah, and so if you just did that, you'd get this, which is preferable. And I think that maybe the thing that's going to help this movie, too, is it's directed by Katao Sakurai, and he worked on Eric Andre's show, and he also directed Bad Trip, that movie that they did for Netflix. Gotcha.

[01:05:16] But on top of that, he also did some episodes of Dave, which is an awesome show. Yep. That I love, with Lil Dicky in it. And he did some other stuff like Twisted Metal and a couple episodes of Beef and whatnot. So, clearly very visceral storytelling with this just very out loud and bombastic look to him. Yeah, exactly. And so, yeah, and he knows how to do both action and comedy, do it in a stylish way. And so, that's the other thing. You don't sleep on the comedy here, because that's going to be a driving force behind this. You've got to know what you are, and if you're leaning into the comedy, you've got to do it in the right way.

[01:05:46] Casting somebody like Eric Andre and Kyle Mooney, that's awesome. Yeah, exactly. So, yeah, I'm all in, man. This comes out on October 16th. Is it rated R or PG-13? I don't know. It doesn't say. Brad, do you know? I don't actually know. Because I'm like, if it's PG-13, you know you're not going to see boobs, so I'll take the boys. I don't know if they've given it a rating yet. Because how dare they see boobs? It might not have a rating yet, but it's PG-13. At least that's what IMDb says. So, I think that it should be okay. Ender is going to be 10 in November. Yeah, he's fine. That's pretty much PG-13 territory.

[01:06:15] So, we're going to be watching a lot of cool movies this winter. Yeah, I mean, your parents took me and Alex to see Face Off and Con Air in theaters. My brother saw Cliffhanger at eight years old. Yeah. Which was a mistake, I'm sure. I saw it at home on VHS. I think I saw Predator at 10 or 11, I think. And it just changed my life. That's when you've got to start seeing stuff. Yeah, I think this winter I might show them Predator. I might do it. That's a lot. What do you think? Still too young? I don't know. What if I edit out the helicopter dialogue? Bunch of slack job.

[01:06:46] Yeah. I don't love that. Yeah. I think it depends on the kid. Sensitive kids, I think, would struggle a little bit more. And I'm so not worried about the creature feature aspect of it. The monster is not going to give him nightmares. It's Blaine's chest being ripped open by the weaponry, that kind of stuff. So I don't know. Because it is a very, it's a horror action movie. But the only stuff that happens is, it's like squib effects, really. Have you shown him Terminator 2 yet? So that we watched, Rune and I actually started that last year.

[01:07:15] And then we got to a certain point, we just didn't finish it because Ender came home. And I think now actually that's the move. Yeah. Because that's a really approachable R-rated movie. I think that's a good action movie that has enough violence that it's bloody and it's hard hitting. But you also know because they are Terminators, they can beat the hell out of each other and it's not a big deal. But there are also like the scene with the milk carton and the stabby weapon thing. Yeah. But that's also not like super gory. It's not gory. You know? Yeah. I don't know. I think that that's definitely worth a watch. We're also going to get into like True Lies and that kind of stuff. The Thing.

[01:07:44] Those are. I showed him. I'm going to show him The Exorcist. Oh, I will tell you this. The other day, there was something we watched where somebody gets sucked into a television. Poltergeist. No, no. But that was the joke. But there's a new show or a movie that's coming out where I showed the trailer to Rune and he goes, isn't this just Poltergeist? No, you were talking about the short film that you were on. That's right. And what it was about.

[01:08:11] So yeah, the short film that I was on that I went to the set to see that our friends are doing. And it's a good budget and everything. And I showed the trailer. It's called Glued. And I showed the trailer. It's about being sucked into a television set. And he texted me back like, this is the premise of Poltergeist. Like very pragmatic. Have they seen Poltergeist? No. He just knows what it is. Oh, interesting. Yeah. I was going to say, if you've seen Poltergeist, should I go? Should I go? Because that face scene, that's enough. That's enough. Yeah. So anyway, there we go. Well, we did it, guys. Hey, you know what?

[01:08:41] And well before our hard out. Exactly. We have plenty of time. And pretty soon, you'll probably be hearing a little less from us because we're right on the cusp of Saturday Night Live. But we produce so many episodes. But yeah, Saturday Night Live will be coming back. So we'll be going back to- When is the first episode coming out? By the way- I don't think they've announced yet. They've not announced. But if you're not an SNL fan and you listen to this podcast, just join us this season. It's a lot of fun. It's- Even if you don't watch the show, I think- We've gotten feedback from people that don't watch SNL that still listen to our podcast

[01:09:11] because they like listening to it. I think that's a little bit of a kudos. I'll take that. And maybe it'll start convincing you to watch more SNL. You really should. Which I would love. It's a fantastically relevant and unique situation where they're still allowing a show to exist like Saturday Night Live. It's the only thing like it out there. And that's why we love it. And I think this year there's a possible chance we might get Tom Holland because even though- Amy Poehler's- So he was on Amy Poehler and he explained why he didn't want to do it because he is dyslexic and he's worried about the cue cards.

[01:09:41] But when he was on Seth Meyers talking about the Spider-Man, he said- He told his team that I'm ready to do SNL. But they're like, well, Tom, they're on hiatus. That's so funny. Yeah. He like builds himself up and he's like, all right, let's do it. Like, well, that show's over for now. Yeah, yeah. By the way, it's hard not to love Tom Holland. Oh, I love him. Of course. He could be a billionaire. Whatever. He probably is going to be. I'm sure he is now. But my God, I just love the man. I think he's going to be.

[01:10:09] But yeah, so I'm hoping that maybe they- Because I mean, he's in both Spider-Man and The Odyssey. He's had a good year. Right now, because I didn't write one. But I got a trivia question for you. So we'll end with a mini game called, do you know the last name? Oh, sure. Do you know Zendaya's last name? Oh, no. Definitely not. Do you know Zendaya's last name? Holland. She's married. It's Coleman. Oh, really? Yeah, it's Zendaya Coleman. C-O-L-E-M-A-N. Is it Goldman or Coleman? C-C.

[01:10:38] It's a Birdcage reference. Okay, well. Coleman. Trying to end on a high note. Well, we're going to end on a high note by talking about a Robin Williams movie. With Nathan Lane that everybody loves. So, sorry. Hey, it is my favorite movie with Gene Hackman in drag. As well it should be. Bye, everybody. Bye. Nah, cheat saying. Bye. Bye. Bye.
