Ben, Brad, and Nate took a little break, but they're back, and they watched A TON OF TRAILERS! Come with us on a journey as we talk about tons of movie trailers. We're not even going to tell you what they are. You have to find out during the episode. It's like a surprise. But not a good surprise. It's just something you don't know. But this episode still has a sponsor, and Ben has a Punisher shirt with no sleeves. Enjoy summer while you can! We know that sounds like a threat, but we don't care.

[00:00:16] Hey everybody, it's another episode of Go Flix Yourself. My name is Ben Konowitz having a great day. And with me as always is Ben Konowitz having a bad day. Hey that's me! Oh the gutters are bad and my arcade's falling apart! Oh alright, okay. Anyone got beer? And Ben Konowitz having a pretty good day. Nate Loucks.
[00:00:45] I mean, dang I was hoping it was going to be like, oh the gutters are bad! I love how yours is causing hemorrhoids. Oh the gutters are bad! That's like a Macho Man Savage. Yeah that's what I kind of thought. It was a mix of that and I don't know if anybody's seen the... Oh the gutters are bad! Bone size ready! I don't know if this is too deep of a cut but you're wearing a Rick and Morty hat and it reminds me of the...
[00:01:14] the sentient asteroids that are killing the dinosaurs. Like the meat heads like... That's great! That's what... Bad day Ben? Yeah. Okay, bad day Ben. Oh there. The gutters are bad. Gutters are bad. Arcade problems! My kids don't respect me! That's Rodney Dangerfield as a wrestler! I get no respect! I get no respect here! No respect at all!
[00:01:44] But come SummerSlam I'm gonna get some respect! My wife, take her please! She's not getting in the ring with me! And for our listeners this is especially funny because Ben is wearing a cut off shirt. Not just a cut off shirt, a cut off Punisher shirt. Yeah. Like a cop! And it's cut off so deeply that his nipple is showing. It's not showing showing. I mean it... I see it... It curls at the ends of it there. I've got a very clear view... We can see your pepperonis. They're not pepperonis!
[00:02:13] I've got a very clear view of your four inch saucers. I don't know, those are not four inch saucers! That's not that it's weird if you have four inch saucers. I mean if that's what you got, that's what you got. That's a little greasy pepperoni nipple. They're like the size of a quarter, man. A pepperoni! The normal size. The little cut pepperoni. I just want our listeners to think that Ben just has four inch really weird... Just really awkward nipples. Ben has massive areolas. And what of it? And what of it? Like coffee mug size areolas.
[00:02:45] Oh, this is oh so off the rails. This is a good episode of Go Flix Yourself already and it's going to get even better, Brad. You know it. You know why? Tell me. Because I just had some chocolate evidently that was a sponsor. Yeah, you did. So what was it? Oh, I'll tell you here in a second. Because you gave it to me and guess what it did? It started melting immediately. Yeah. And so I had to pop that thing in my mouth because I didn't want to stain the couch. And here's the funny thing. That's a leather couch. That's not going to stain. The other thing is Nate had chocolate in his hand too and you know what he thought? He's like, oh, I know what I'll do.
[00:03:13] I'll put it down so it doesn't melt. But I don't have anything over here to put it down on. You can literally put it right there on the armrest of the couch and it would have been fine. Do you not see the fine stitching? It is threads. First of all, it wasn't a full chocolate bar. And so do you understand that it would have ruined this couch? Oh my God. If the couch isn't ruined already from you guys busting farts in it every time we record an episode, then we wouldn't have to worry about it. That is not true. You drink at least two beers every episode. It's absolutely true. You're farting in that couch. I guarantee you I'm not farting in this couch.
[00:03:43] How's it? Shut your mouth right now. Does that sound like somebody who doesn't fart? Yeah, it does. I had to think that one through. Actually, our listeners don't know this, but Ben and I sit right next to each other. We don't smell each other. Yeah, we don't. That's not a thing we do, buddy. Well, just because you don't smell each other doesn't mean it's not happening. Oh, that's weird. Okay. Is that a COVID joke? Okay. Sure. If you want it to be. The gutters are bad. What was the peppermint something? It's not peppermint actually. Can you check it or don't?
[00:04:13] Go ahead. Pop it in your mouth. Let's see what you got. I'm not even gonna tease this one. Just eat chocolate. I know why you said peppermint though. Because it's peppermint? Is that gonna orange? Is it like a little bit orange? You're a little bit closer. Okay. This is so fun for the listener. Why don't we just say what it is? This is a key lime dark chocolate bar. Okay. Sure. I know why you thought peppermint because a lot of times dark chocolate accompanies peppermint. You just didn't get that lime zest coming through. Yeah.
[00:04:42] This is so fun. We are gonna do- What do you think Nate? Oh my god. We're gonna do something a little differently. Hey! This is my podcast. Nate what do you think about the chocolate? I'm not a big dark chocolate fan but I do like dark chocolate with mint. Wait. Also they did pay to be on the show so who is it so I can give them- This is Walmart's Better Goods brand. I don't know if you've had any of their Better Goods stuff. Their Better Goods stuff is great. They have incredible flavors and variety of things. And the quality is very good. Well we'd like to thank Walmart for sponsoring today's episode. Thank you for the check Walmart. We cash it and we're bringing you this episode. Thank you.
[00:05:13] You're welcome. That's what Walmart sounds like. Hi it's me Dr. Walmart. Do you guys like Dubai chocolate? I think it's fine. I don't love pistachios anyway so- Yeah. I don't know if I'm- Are we allowed to eat it? Wait like cause like the cyclospora? No is it like good or bad? Like is it the country or do we like them right now? Oh you're talking about the political concerns of eating pistachio chocolate? Like yeah I mean there's no rights so you eat it. Is it like human rights violations place or not? Yeah Dubai?
[00:05:42] Yeah for sure. Oh yeah then I don't support it. Technically everywhere is a human rights violation though like you live in the United States. That's true. I don't support me either. There you go. Okay. The guy in the Punisher shirt says- It's a shirt from college before it took on any sort of political meaning. That's what they say. The Punisher is just a misappropriated cartoon character. You gotta admit though when you see someone who looks like you wearing a shirt like- Comic book character. Jesus Christ.
[00:06:11] Someone who looks like you wearing a shirt like that, you're concerned. Well that's fine. Good for them. I'm bringing it back. I'm taking it back. Good guy wearing a Punisher cut off t-shirt. Guys this episode we're having a little bit of fun with. Trailer Palooza! Yeah the time! Trailer Palooza! We haven't done a Trailer Palooza in a while. Trailer Palooza! Maybe like it would have been like a Comic Con or something like that or a D23 a while ago. Good job. Yeah. I love that.
[00:06:38] Because this is a big Trailer Palooza episode, Ben you know what we need. We need to start talking about the first ones so we can get through them all. We need a big Trailer Palooza song. That was it. We just sung it. We need a trailer song after each trailer. After each trailer. And it's gotta be good right now. Which means, especially you're writing an album. It's gotta be good right now. You write the full album. This has to be like one of your best trailer songs ever. No it doesn't have to be that at all. No it really should be that.
[00:07:08] And it's not gonna be that. It doesn't have to be but it should be. For our listeners. I want you to think about it a lot. Our listeners deserve something really good right now. Trail trail trail your boat. Lead with a car. Come and sit right next to me and we'll watch movies and go far. There you go. Okay now you do the second part. I don't want to do the second part. Trail trail trail trail.
[00:07:37] Get a chorus going of the trail your movie song? Trail trail trail your boat. Lead it with a car. You didn't even say a movie in that one. Did you? Come write me and sit with me and we'll watch a movie and go far. Movies go far. Okay so you got there. I snuck it in there buddy. Whatever. Which one are you gonna start with buddy? Let's start with one of the weirder ones just for shits and giggles. This is a movie called Toxic. Yeah.
[00:08:07] Yeah. And it's from Variance Films which this is the same company that brought us RRR several years ago. It was a big international sensation. Not a pirate movie. Not a pirate movie. But it was. Sounds like a pirate movie. Not a pirate movie. This was a big international sensation. Really got the attention of a lot of different people. Ended up nominated for an Academy Award. I don't remember if it won or did it. I think it did end up winning. Maybe not though. For what? It was an original song I think. Okay.
[00:08:37] If I remember correctly. But yeah. Anyway. RRR was just a big sensation. And this movie coming from the same production company. It stars who is apparently a very famous actor over there named Yash. And I guess he's a big deal. Yash gonna give it to you. When you go by a single name you gotta be a pretty big deal. So what did you guys think of this trailer? And you guys haven't seen RRR yet. No. I still keep meaning to show it to you. It's like bonkers.
[00:09:08] It definitely has a different vibe than the normal kind of lower budget Indian films that have those very, very fantastical elements that you've seen. Yeah. You know, they shrink down and get thrown through space and stuff. I've seen those that have been making rounds on YouTube for a long time. It doesn't fall anywhere near. It's like somebody took that and gave it a hundred million dollar makeover. Yeah.
[00:09:35] You know, and it looks ridiculous, but it looks silly enough that I'm still very interested in that. Yeah. For sure. Yeah. I don't know. I mean, I didn't see... If you look at it like a parody though, if you look at it like a parody of an action movie. Is that what this is supposed to be? So I mean, in a way, yes. But so like Indian action movies like this, there's an expected, heightened feeling to them where like, yes, it's ridiculous.
[00:10:02] You're still kind of supposed to get caught up in it and take it seriously, quote unquote, to a point. It's almost like, I guess, like Indian movies are very similar to the Fast and Furious to a certain regard. But there's usually... The suspension of disbelief is much higher. Yeah. And there's a bigger level of respect for these kinds of movies because this is the style of movie that like gets a lot of attention in India.
[00:10:27] And so funnily enough, you probably wouldn't have guessed this because of how it's presented, but the movie is directed by a woman too, which is fascinating. Why wouldn't I get that? Why wouldn't we understand that? What about that trailer said... There's an aspect of it that seems... Aspect. Chauvinistic. Aspect. Maybe. You use that phrase just like that for that reason? I really don't know what the... Ass. Aspect. Oh, really? Aspect. See, what that says to me is that when you think about women, the first thing you think about is ass. I'm talking about the car sex scene, Brad.
[00:10:58] That's what I'm talking about. Oh, I get it. That doesn't make any sense. That was a weird scene. Yeah. That was a weird scene. But it was very funny. It was funny. I'm very excited to see this. I still... I want to sit down and have you guys watch RRR sometimes so you can see. Yes. This is definitely a little more crass and I guess maybe raunchy. Campy? There's a lot of Campy in RRR as well. Yeah, that's fair. Yeah, that's fair. But it's a little more raunchy I would say. A little edgier.
[00:11:23] This is also, I think, I just read that it's going to be the most expensive or it is the most expensive Indian film ever made. Oh, there you go. At about 100 million American dollars. Perfect. Okay. So I would like to just say that I said earlier, it's like somebody gave that a 100 million dollar budget. Right. So I'm pretty sure we can move on. Yeah. And just to shout out her name too, Gitu Mohandas is the director of this and so it's pretty cool.
[00:11:51] I like that we're going to move you like this from a female director. Sure. So it comes out very soon in about a month, August 26th. Yeah. And it should be pretty easily available in theaters in America because it's getting distribution over here. Sweet. You say should it? Yeah. I don't like this guy. Yeah. Nate. I mean, I'm just saying. Sorry there's not a cute puppy or a Christmas elf in it. Yeah. There's a decent amount of our listeners that don't like to read their movies. I'll say it. Wow. That's maybe like the word, one of the worst things you've ever said.
[00:12:21] I didn't say it was me. I said some of our listeners. He's very careful. So you're judging our listeners for not wanting to read. No, I know of all 14 of them. Yes. Yeah. All right. Let's, let's lean into something a little more familiar territory. How about I play Rocky? What do you think is the most listeners we've ever had to the show? 300. I could probably, how do you think? Probably 300, 300 downloads, 300. All right. So that, we, there's more than just 13 people, 14 people listening. Yeah, exactly.
[00:12:51] You know, and they respect my opinion and not yours. That's, I guess, my point. That's cute. It's a cute thing to say. Because you're just, you're too in your own head about being, you know, a professional and I work for, I do this for a living. I'm definitely, definitely don't do that. You know? So they just want to, they want to, they want a truth, they want a truth secret. You do. I'm a profesh. Yeah. Like all, you say that all the time. I'm a profesh. Yeah. He says, and he's saying, oh, that was, that's perf. Yeah. I'm like, this is gross. Why is everything truncated with you now?
[00:13:20] Oh, it's a, well, that's slick brah. See? I don't like any of this. Okay, fam. I play Rocky. Fairly Brothers film? Well, Peter Fairly film. Not the brothers. Yeah. When the brothers get together, they slap the dicks around. Did the brothers break up? They didn't break up. Peter's just been doing a little bit more of his own thing for a little bit. They broke up. Yeah. So this is a movie about Sylvester Stallone writing the script for Rocky and trying to
[00:13:49] make a deal so that he will be allowed to play Rocky because the big story about the behind the scenes of the movie is that he wrote the script. Studios loved it, but they didn't want Sylvester Stallone to play because nobody knows who Sylvester Stallone is at this time. And they wanted to put different various big names in the role and Stallone had to really campaign and like hustle to get the role in the movie. And so this will focus on that, making of the movie and all that jazz. What did you guys think about this trailer?
[00:14:20] It feels like if you're trying to translate this into Bohemian Rhapsody territory, it's the same type of movie now. So I'm wondering how many more of these are we going to see if this one's successful. Yeah. Because it's a biopic featuring the actual film. Yeah. So instead of doing it about, okay, a documentary on Sylvester Stallone is one thing, but doing a narrative film about him. Yeah.
[00:14:49] I think that's, I think if this is very successful, I think you'll definitely see more. I think you're right. And I had the same feeling actually. It's similar to what I said when we talked about the Michael trailer is that it's going to be a movie that tricks you into thinking you're watching a good movie because it's going to remind you of memorable moments in Rocky and recreate them with this actor who's playing Sylvester Stallone. Even like the shots in the trailer that like are lead, like shots meant to like get you excited. And that's just a shot from Rocky. Yeah, exactly. I, that's so it's, it is a little weird.
[00:15:19] It's not uncanny valley, but you do that kind of loop de loop feeling of like, you know, it's a motive, you know, you're rooting for the guy. It's, it's meta, you know, and it's, it was kind of weird. You're risking that I care. Um, and like, honestly, like I know that Rocky's a great film. I know that, uh, the studio didn't want, I mean, even though Sylvester Stallone wrote it, they didn't want him to star in it. I know all that stuff. I don't know if I need a film about it. True.
[00:15:47] Like, you know, like, and that's the thing though, is I, you, you gotta wonder though, how many people don't know that, you know? Or did even those people, do they need a film about it? I mean, it better be a great fricking film, like as a film itself, because the, the, the storyline, like, geez Louise, why do I care? Well, that's the thing is like, you would hopefully care because it's a similar underdog story to Rocky itself.
[00:16:13] That's, that's the idea is because that's, would you care more if Sylvester Stallone never went anywhere after that was a one hit wonder? I would maybe, because like, I don't care that like the trials and tribulations. Oh, you mean the guy that's a billionaire and like, you know, does whatever makes expendables movies now? And also like how it worked out. It's not alright for that guy. How many other films, like, were hard to get made? Exactly. This is hard to get made. Really? They're all hard to get made. Exactly. They're all hard to get made. So yeah.
[00:16:39] But it is one of the more unique stories though, is like, like that, that's why the story is kind of legendary is because Stallone wrote the script himself and then wanted to star in it. And that's just a story that you don't, you don't, maybe never has this ever happened where an actor who's an unknown has written a script and wanted to star in it and it went on to, and it went on to, when it went on to win best picture. Oh, sorry. Only best screenplay. So sorry. But like Matt Damon didn't need to like campaign for that or anything like that.
[00:17:09] Like that wasn't, I don't think they wanted Matt Damon to star in it. They wanted somebody else. Yeah. I don't. Yeah. I couldn't get anybody. So like, I actually find Good Will Hunting a better story than Rocky, but like the making of that because it's a lot more interesting to me because I like the film better. But like, you don't know that cause you haven't seen it. No, no, no. I like Good Will Hunting better than Rocky. Like I just saying, I like that film better, but I don't know. It could be fine. I also, I don't know.
[00:17:39] I don't love Sylvester Stallone. I mean, that's what it is too. It's like, I don't know. Are you that attracted to this film? Like, are you that like moved by it? No, no. And you are a guy that should be because you love action movies. I love action movies. And so I guess the only thing that is I'm curious about in this film, if it is true, you know, if, if it truly is not just judged up for a narrative sake, I love kind of inside baseball about how filmmaking happens.
[00:18:07] You know, I really want to know, like, did he really break his hand, you know, punch in the bra? If that's true story, then I love that, that stuff. And I would really respect that stuff. But now it's a, but it's not a documentary. It's a narrative. So how much exaggeration? And I'm not going to, I don't want to watch it for that reason either. Yeah. Maybe it's a better documentary than, than a narrative film. Yeah. I think that's maybe where I'm going with that. I would have read the scene, this documentary. Then, I mean, there is a documentary about Stallone and Rocky and there's several, so. Well, I know, but if, if this is what they're going to do, I would rather have them do now
[00:18:36] like a look back and do a new one. I think, yeah. And really, I think that just ties into just the core of what it is too, is, oh, I just want to watch Rocky. Right. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Yeah. All right, moving on. Yeah. Yeah. Let's watch, let's talk about, let's move from Sylvester Stallone to a little guy called Tom Cruise. Okay. Sound real excited. Yeah. No, I love, I love me some Cruisey Cruise. You do like Tom Cruise. I like his movies.
[00:19:06] I don't, I don't like. Okay, but you like. Yeah, we're not getting into this today. And I like his attitude about movies. I do, I think it's whimsical and weird. Ah, I love that he loves movies the way he does. Manic and manic. Uh, so Tom Cruise has a new movie coming out called Digger. And Tom Cruise, he wants that Oscar real bad. Yeah. Uh, and, and that's why he's working with, uh, Alejandro G. Inuretu, the director of such movies as The Revenant and 21 Grands. I'm sorry, I'm gonna still laugh about that. He wants that Oscar real bad.
[00:19:35] Uh, he, it's clear he does. And so he's teaming up with Alejandro, uh, for this, uh, very big comedy. Uh, it has like vibes of Dr. Strangelove. Uh, but I am a little worried it's gonna come up more like something like Don't Look Up, where it's like maybe got a little something to say, but also it's just like, who is this for? Yeah. And like, and it's also a little too weird. Like, it's almost like there's a, a Yorgos Lanthimos flair in it that I'm just like. God bless you. Yeah. Yeah.
[00:20:04] Now, uh, who's your grip, Black? The guy that did poor things. He makes really weird films. Oh, yeah. But he somehow works it out. But like, but they are a niche type of film. Um, and, and so this has a budget though. Did you see that? Yeah. It's a very big budget. $125 million. It better not be niche. Right? Cause I don't think Yorgos Lanthimos. Yeah. Cause yeah, $125 for not an action movie is wild. He's not getting that kind of budget. Yeah. And that's, that puts a lot of weight on Tom Cruise too. And I think that that's where it is.
[00:20:33] Is people are going to be very interested to see Tom Cruise looking like a old man with a big gun playing a character. That's this, you know, Western mogul cowboy kind of. I'm interested as hell to see this film. I'm curious. I really want to see it. I didn't like this trailer very much though. I'll be honest with you about that. Why? It's just something about it feels like it's weird for the sake of being weird. And I just feel like it's the comedy is going to be a little too broad for what they're trying to do. It's going to be a sad time. Almost Wes Anderson ish. Like weird or. No, not like quirky.
[00:21:03] Like weird as in like, like Yorgos Lanthimos movies. And I think that it's the comedy that they think is there is not going to be anything that's sharp or it's going to be played broad and the satire is not going to be as smart as it thinks it is. That's just the vibe. It's going to be like, eh? Yeah. Cause it's a red hallway that ran down. Yeah. That's the, that's the vibe that I get. So, um, but. Okay. But you got to trust Alejandro a little bit, right? I mean, a little bit. Oscar winner.
[00:21:32] And you're like, I'm just going to trust him a little bit. Yeah, exactly. He's done Birdman, the Revenant. Did you see Bardo or no? No, I haven't seen Bardo yet. And the thing about Alejandro is I do like him as a filmmaker, but he can be pretty grandiose and just, just one of the, like, uh, sometimes he just goes. What's wrong with that? Sometimes he can push it a little too. Too over the top where it's just like, okay, buddy, we, we get it. You're, you're one of those directors, you know? Um, like is the, it lacks a certain finesse in, and subtlety in what he's trying to do.
[00:22:02] It's almost like it's, he's just laying it on a little too thick. I still like what he does for the most part. Um, you know, I don't think he's a bad filmmaker by any means, but that's like, it's a signature trait of his, I think. Okay. Well, um, direct your hate mail to www.bradsjunk.com. Not a website. I'm excited about John. There's a really weird reference to make. John Goodman in this film though. I'm excited about that. Yes, absolutely. All right. Um, yeah. Nate, you're into it. You want to watch that one? You want to watch it? Hold hands with me and watch it? Uh, yeah, I'll watch it.
[00:22:31] Um, but I, it will be a film. I look at reviews a little bit beforehand before I commit to it because I will watch it probably no matter what, but I will say the same thing. I want to, I want to know what I'm getting into. I want to know what the consensus is already. Cause if, if it's really highly acclaimed that I'm going to start looking for connections that might be there. If it's not, then I don't have to worry. And also like, is this a film that's just going to beat you over the head with the politics that you think it's going to go with? Right. Like, right. Like it's like, okay, fine. Right.
[00:23:00] Uh, I hope it doesn't go that route. I hope it's more creative than that. Um, but we'll see. We'll see. Okay. Yeah. Cause things at their worst, uh, the don't look up is not a bad film, but again, it's, it was just, to me, it was pretty boring. Uh, it wasn't laugh out loud whatsoever. Right. Um, and when it's preachy like that, or when it's just, when it misses the mark of subtlety and, and it's just really in their face like that, it feels very much like that SNL sketch of the kids in the high school play. Oh, the improv.
[00:23:30] Yeah. And they're like, like, Oh, the whole time it was mother. Yeah. So I think that that is kind of how it feels with these movies that are a little preachy like that. Like, I, we get it, bro. Yeah. I think that's a good point. Yeah. I agree. All right. What's next? Uh, let's, let's hop on the Liam Neeson train a little bit for the mongoose. You don't want to be a cobra. No, you don't. The mongoose is there. It's coming.
[00:23:59] The mongoose is coming. I don't know where you are, but I'm coming for you. I'm coming for you. If my name isn't Liam Neeson. Uh, do your best mongoose impression. I don't even know if that's the sound of mongoose makes. Nobody does. That's pretty good. Yeah, that was pretty good one. Uh, this is a new Liam Neeson. Yes, it is. I don't know what they're doing anymore.
[00:24:26] Uh, do they, they, they're like, Oh, what if he, well, he can't be believable as an ass kicker anymore cause he's approaching 80. Yeah. But he's still got the voice. But let's make him Marissa Tomei's ex-husband. Of course. Uh, and then also just like, we don't have to showcase him doing much when he's driving. Right. That's true. So it's a good vehicle pun intended for that. Driving. Uh, uh, so there you go. That's my take on it is a Liam Neeson action movie without the action part. Huh? Yeah, that's about right. And also did anybody notice?
[00:24:55] I think Ford had a pretty big contract. No, no, no, no less than two Mustangs and all the police cars are Fords as well. Yep. So yeah, I wonder if this is made by Ford. Yeah. Those were also not crowned Vicks. I don't think. No, they were, they were full on Ford SUVs. Yep. It's, it is at this point is Liam Neeson just producing these films as well? Is he making these films? I don't know actually. Maybe some of them. Um, but like, it's, it's essentially the same film.
[00:25:24] This is, this is, well, Jason Statham is on this path. Yeah. It's just, it's a Jason Statham movie except he's Liam Neeson or it's a Liam Neeson movie. Except it's Jason Statham. I mean, yeah, he's been. They're interchangeable like that. He's been doing this for a while. Exactly. And Statham is now doing more of these as well. Yeah. But this is, so this is directed by Mark Vansalow who is a very famed stunt coordinator, I guess you could say. He does, he's done stunts on a lot of action movies, everything from Pirates of the Caribbean to a lot of Liam Neeson movies. Oh, and by the way, I'm going to see it. I want to be very clear. I'm going to see this.
[00:25:54] He's Liam Neeson's stunt double. Yeah. Oh, is he a stunt double? I'm saying he actually is Liam Neeson's stunt double. That's what I'm asking. That's interesting. That's pretty cool. I didn't realize that. He had to verify four times with you. So he is. Is he? Is he? Is he? He's a double? Yeah. Wow. Did you hear that Ben? You're such an asshole. No, I was seriously confirming that's what he was saying. I know. Because I was talking about something different. What's next? He was the stunt coordinator on a lot of Liam Neeson's movies as well. No, but he is a stunt double. Yeah.
[00:26:24] That's interesting. That's very cool. Oh my God. Please stop talking. So he pretends to be Liam Neeson for the stunt. I'm getting it. I have a left and a right hand and I'm going to punch the both of you simultaneously. I would love to see that because we are too far apart for you to do that. Well, so yeah, this doesn't look great. Good. No, I mean, he's just going to keep doing this and people are going to make them until it's unbelievable enough where. Until you stop watching them. Exactly. But you won't see this in theaters. Gosh, no. And I won't see it when it first comes out when it's $19.99.
[00:26:54] I'll wait, wait, wait, wait. It'll be on streaming service. I'll catch it. Yeah, who knows? Yeah, Canopy? I'm still though, I'm still, I'm in the pay for a rental Jason Statham at $6.99 or less era and I'm not that way with Liam Neeson. Yeah. Who doesn't love a good Michael Chiklis film? Good point. Is that, he's, oh yeah, he's the sheriff. I mean, yeah, he's the sheriff, yeah. He was also the commish, I don't know if you remember.
[00:27:23] He was the commish. And the shield. And the thing. Yep. Yeah, we got it guys. A lot of thes. Uh huh. So, speaking of actors who. Go ahead, no, no, go. No, what is this perfect segue? Are aging gracefully. Okay. Let's talk about Johnny Depp and Ebenezer. Oh my. Is that really what you were gonna do? Yep. Bah bah. Oh my gosh.
[00:27:52] Uh, what, I don't even know what this movie is. I don't care. Oh, I don't care. Like there's such a, it's such a weird. There's nothing here for me. There's such a weird comedic bend to it. Like, why are we making him like. So weird. I don't even understand what we're doing anymore. No, no, I, I, I'm not gonna see this. I don't care. You wanna show it to the kids? I mean, this is one of those that if, if they ask to see it, then we're gonna watch it. Then we're gonna have a conversation about Johnny Depp. Then we're gonna say, he's problematic. Okay. There was poop in a bed and it was hers, but then we're not sure how they did. I don't know. Anyway, it got messy.
[00:28:22] Now, well, yes boys, the bed did get messy, but then also the case. Do you wanna know who's directing this? I do know him. Jorns McHordredsen. Who? Jorns McHordredsen. I've been trying to remember that guy's name. Yorgos Lanthimos? Jorns McHordredsen is what I said. You're doing Swedish chef impressions. No, no, I. Jorns McHordredsen. Jorns McHordredsen. Jorns McHordredsen. Ty West directed this. The horror filmmaker? Pearl X. Yeah. Oh, okay. Fascinating. Wait.
[00:28:52] Directed? The Monk? Ebenezer. Oh, Ebenezer. No, not the Monk. The Monk. We're not talking about that anymore. Ebenezer. Okay. Yeah. That's interesting. Did you guys see the stunt that he did? He's directing. He is. Huh. That's interesting. The stunt they did at Comic-Con? So he's directing. No, I didn't. Johnny Depp was in full Ebenezer makeup for a Comic-Con panel and then also had a little installment on a San Diego street out to the convention center.
[00:29:17] It was like a door frame set up like an old school Dickens door front. Okay. And it was him? Yeah. He came out and was just talking to himself and the characters would come in and interact with him and then he would interact with some people who were around, would talk as Ebenezer all in character. Real weird. Real weird stuff. And I just. That was their idea. That was like, this is what we're going to do. Yeah. Promote this at Comic-Con and. Oof. Just swing and a miss.
[00:29:45] Well, but I mean, there's probably so many people who are still going to turn out for this because A Christmas Carol is well known the world over. Well, sure. People still love Johnny Depp. Yeah. No. I mean, I don't necessarily have. Am I supposed to have much against him? Yeah. Whatever came up. I don't even remember. I mean, he's the villain. Honestly, I kind of got that they're both kind of villainous. That's the thing. He was in a toxic relationship with a toxic person. He's a toxic person. Yeah. That has nothing to do with his career to me.
[00:30:13] I mean, it does because he's a piece of shit. Okay. Yeah. I mean, but I guess if. It's the same reason you don't like Kevin Spacey anymore. It has nothing to do with his words. No, no, no, no. Don't put words into his mouth about what he thinks about Kevin Spacey. Oh, he still likes Kevin Spacey. Yeah. Don't put words into his mouth about what he thinks about Kevin Spacey. I feel it's very disingenuous to put Kevin Spacey in the same category. I think that some people would argue only. I kind of agree.
[00:30:39] Like, I think some people would argue only slightly because apparently Johnny Depp is an abusive man. Okay. But, but I mean, right. Kevin, Kevin Spacey. Well, they're both. Listen, they're both horrible. If that's the case, I didn't know. I thought because I again, I don't know anything about that Johnny Depp because I didn't know that that was the thing. I thought the thing was that they had a very messy divorce and there was a lot of money involved. So they were like, he was like talking shit about her literally shitting the bed and like defaming her. And I thought there was like camps being built.
[00:31:09] Oh, are you team Amber team? John or whatever. That's the thing. But I thought it was innocuous enough of like, it was just two rich people having a falling out. Not he was actually abusive. No, apparently they were, they were both abusive to each other. Yeah. So that's just a toxic relationship. Okay. And yeah, there's enough bad shit going on in the world that we don't, we don't need to support a guy like that. And I will say that I have heard from behind the scenes that maybe when you work on a movie with Johnny Depp, that it's not the best experience. Oh, he makes you shiver your timbers?
[00:31:40] Yep. Or shiver if your name is timber. Oof. Rough. Do we think the same about Amber Heard? Yeah. But she's not, she's not going to work, is she? I don't know. She got cut pretty well down in Aquaman 2 because of everything that was going on. And then I haven't really seen her in much. Yeah. Hey, but Army Hammer's back. Huh? Is he though? Well, in a trailer coming up called Hammer Time. All right. Here's a- Too legit to quit. Hey, hey. Army Hammer in blackface. All right.
[00:32:09] Cause I don't remember where this, I don't remember where this ended up, but I did look it up. The 2022 Virginia trial found both liable for defamation on different claims. Heard was found to have defamed Johnny Depp with implications in her 2018 Washington Post op-end. He was awarded $10 million in compensatory and $5 million punitive, later reduced due to a cap. And so like- Oh, so he was less at fault than her in that aspect.
[00:32:39] But Depp's lawyer was also found to have defamed her on one claim and she was awarded $2 million. So- And that's the lawyer. It's not necessarily- A little tat for tat there. Yeah. Fair enough. I don't know. I kind of- Bad people are bad people. I think they're both messed up people. So we can just walk away from him then. I don't need a Pirates of the Caribbean. Cute. Yeah, we're done there. Well, we like Johnny Depp here.
[00:33:07] At this podcast, we're a Johnny Depp pod. We're a Johnny Depp family. We're three Johnny Deep. No, no, but really we're not though. I don't fucking care about him anymore. No, I don't care. Let's talk about a new Ryan Reynolds movie coming out called Mayday. Yeah. What do you think about Mayday, Ben, Nate? What do you think, Nate? Right off the bat here. Yeah, tell us about your thoughts on Mayday. Okay, but- Not to, you know- Mayday. Broken record here.
[00:33:37] Are we allowed to like Ryan Reynolds? Yeah, it's also- This is- So let's not even put Reynolds in the same camp as someone like Johnny Depp or Kevin Spacey. That's not the same thing because this is more so an idea of like- Just ruining people's lives. Professional disagreements and things where like maybe he's not acting like with the best, you know, of- Reddit seems to hate him. I'm sure they do, but that's probably just because they hate Blake Lively at this point after the story came out. Isn't he- Aren't they the same? I know.
[00:34:06] That's not how things work. I mean, they're married. They're in a relationship. No, no, he- He supports her. She supports him. And also, like he was working behind the scenes to- Yeah, no, and if that is true, then like yeah, he's definitely doing some things that like aren't necessarily like the best decisions, but he's not doing anything- Listen, if we're going to Tom Cruise movies, we're going to Ryan Reynolds movies, all right? Yeah, this is the thing, you know? Like we're picking the nits here. Yeah, you're cherry picking like a motherfucker. Whoa! Oh, sorry. Easy to- Like a cherry fucker.
[00:34:33] Okay, in that case, I see pretty much anything Ryan Reynolds is in, so yeah, I'll see this. You know, exactly. That to the side, I guess, and we're back just talking like that didn't even happen. It's an action comedy. I love a good action comedy. No, and it's set in the 80s, and I like Kenneth Branagh. And who are the directors and writers? Yeah, so Kenny Branagh is the- Kenny B. Plays the Russian. Is he also directing? No. He's a good director though. He's a good director. He's been nominated for some Oscars. I do. I appreciate that about him.
[00:35:02] Yeah, but the directors are actually pretty exciting. Who is it? And it makes me more excited for the movie since the trailer didn't do a lot for me. Oh, tell me. Why don't you just give the names? John Francis Daly and Jonathan Goldstein, who directed movies such as Game Night and Dungeons and Dragons Honor Among Thieves. Okay. So that, once I saw that it was them doing it, I was like, oh, okay, so hopefully there's a better movie here than the trailer indicates, because the trailer, I feel like you had kind of like a bumpy start. I was like, what's going on here? What's the tone of this movie?
[00:35:31] Yeah, I think it's, the trailer has a big ask there. Yeah. You know, because you've got to set the timing being in the 80s, but it's still Ryan Reynolds and so the audience needs a second. Yeah. And there's a pretty big twist right off the bat. Yeah. So, no, I mean, it's a little messy of a trailer, but it still gets the point across and it makes me excited to see the film. I, not to discredit him as an actor, because he's a phenomenal actor, I feel like I would be more excited if somebody else other than Kenneth Branagh was in the role. What? I just, there's just something.
[00:36:01] Why don't you like Kenneth Branagh? I literally just, I just don't know. Maybe it's just something. What about, what's changed? Your tone, your tone. Who am I talking to? Your tone just suggests you don't like him. Even when you said, not that I don't like him, it says. It's like, you know, I don't hate you, but let me tell you all the reasons I hate you. No, like I even love Kenneth Branagh in Wild Wild West. That's how much I respect Kenneth Branagh as an actor. Of course you do. Mr. West. He's so funny in Wild Wild West. We all love him.
[00:36:29] He's the only one who knows what movie he's in. But also, you don't just get to pull a little deep cut there and then expect us to feel like you didn't disrespect him. Anyway, it's the kind of role where I know he can do it as an actor, technically. I just think it would be more fun if it was somebody else in the role. Whoopi Goldberg. You know what? Honestly, abso-fucking-lady. I would love to see Ryan Reynolds and Whoopi Goldberg in a movie like this. Where she's kicking ass. Yes.
[00:36:59] Can I tell you guys something real quick? My Instagram somehow took a turn. This is just a confessional. About a week and a half. Yeah, and I haven't told you guys this and I've wanted to. About a week and a half ago it took a turn. I am getting so many. Whoopi Goldberg parodies. Sister Act 2. Memes and things. And I like every one of them. Did the internet just find out that you're a little religious?
[00:37:27] I don't know what it found out or that I know every one of those songs. Yeah. And I had the CD. Like I was passionate about my sister act. Two fans. So when you brought up Whoopi, I wanted to be like, you know what? This is probably now the time to tell them. Yeah. And I wanted to tell you guys. That's good. Back in the habit. This looks interesting. It looks fine. Yeah, no. It's got a project. What is that? Project Adam? Hail Mary. No, no. That's a good movie. The Adam Project.
[00:37:56] It has a little bit of vibes like that. But I don't hate those movies. No, exactly. And that's what I'm saying. If that's the movie that this is, I'll watch it once like I did with The Adam Project. And I'll have fun with it. And I'll forget about it. But it's going to be a movie. Round and round to do his thing. And I'll be like, that was a good project. I would much rather see him do like a free guy too. I would really like to see that movie. It comes out in December. That's not true. I was really searching my brain there. Wait, did I fuck up? And not remember we...
[00:38:25] I thought Brad, because like the way that it looked... That's not true. No, he held the gaze long enough where I thought that he was mad enough to like he was going to spot off. We watched the trailer three weeks ago. I really thought that was coming, dude. No. So I'm not... I'm just hallucinating. There is no free guy too. There's no free guy too. It is. It comes out this way. Shut up, Nate, you ass. No, he doesn't even know about movies. I don't anymore. You know, we just talked about Ryan Reynolds. Don't try to... You know what?
[00:38:55] I don't like that you're trying to segue. I want to talk about another handsome guy. His name's Clayface. So I will tell you... Just tell the people what this is. Yeah, so Clayface is a new DC Comics movie, but it's not necessarily the same kind of superhero movie you're expecting. They're taking a character called Clayface who is one of the many rogues in Batman's gallery.
[00:39:21] He's been a villain against Batman several times, but they're giving us basically like a horror story about how this character becomes Clayface. Batman's not involved. It's not meant to tie into any of the other DC movies or anything like that. It's a standalone story where they're putting a little bit of a spin on this character and making a horror movie out of it. And that's what we got here is we had a tease for what that movie is like. What did you think of old Clayface? This is definitely an experiment for them, right? Yeah.
[00:39:50] Is this... Do you expect this to be just a standalone? What was the one that Marvel did that was a black and white... No, they did a black and white standalone. Oh, Werewolf by Night. Yeah. And that was presented as a TV special. Yeah, I know, but I didn't know. But we all knew it was a standalone thing. Yeah. Was the Marvel... Was New Mutants the one that they tried to do a little bit of a horror vibe? Yeah. Yeah. But that was towards the end of the Fox regime though. Yeah. But that's what this was giving me vibes on. Yeah, a little bit. You know, it's like, okay, they put the blood red, you know, R-rated trailer scene. Yeah.
[00:40:20] You know, so that always pushes horror. The music dims or goes down to that in these deep bass and you're like, oh shit, they're doing a horror trailer here. It is interesting because this is produced by Matt Reeves and James Gunn, right? Yes. I don't think they've done... It seems like... That seems to me like two universes, right? Yes. Coming together. Yeah. Does that make sense? And I think it's because Matt Reeves is... It could easily exist in his Batman universe probably.
[00:40:47] I don't think there's any intentions of them actually bridging them together. But the idea is that because it's a DC character, because it's tied to Batman, that Reeves would kind of consult on that. And of course, James Gunn is in charge of all the DC stuff. So it's... Yeah. I don't know. I was hopeful for this. I actually liked the first teaser they did for this much better than the second trailer because the second trailer felt like Morbius. Yeah. Just DC's Morbius. Like the exact same beats. Oh, that's great.
[00:41:15] And so I was just like, hmm, I don't know. Like there's some really cool visuals in here, but I'm just like... You know what? They were in Morbius too. Yeah. Okay. Still Morbid. They are... It's Morbid time. They are though risking, right? Because there's no tentpole actor in this. There's no... No, not at all. Yeah. And so... I'm glad they didn't do something like Batman presents Clayface, you know? I was wondering. Or like, yeah, this universe... Yeah, Clayface, a Batman story.
[00:41:46] The Rogue's Gallery presents. But they did do this one for about 40 million, so I feel like that's a risk. And for those who don't know that Clayface is a DC character, they might just think, oh, that's a horror movie. Sure, I'll go see that. That's fair. I know nothing about Clayface, so... I think the majority of people don't. I think the majority of people don't. Clayface is from the animated series. Yeah, exactly. That's a big part of these characters' love, so... Cool. We'll see. I'm curious, but I'm not excited after this trailer. I'll say that. Fair enough.
[00:42:15] Let's switch things over to another scary guy. Call him the Whisper Man. It's not really switching things over. It's not switching things over to another scary guy. That's not switching things over. You don't switch. You're thinking of switch in the sense of change. Yes. Like, from one thing to something different. Yes. I'm thinking of switch as just a change to a different thing in general. Use a better word. Switch. I hate you so much. I hate you so much. The Whisper Man. He's gonna get ya. What about him? He's coming.
[00:42:45] He's coming for us. He's coming to get ya. Yeah, that's a creepy thing. The Whisper Man? Yeah. Nate. Nate, you're not gonna watch The Whisper Man, are you? No. Why? I mean, I like Bobby De Niro as much as anybody, but like... Bobby D. Uh, no. Hey, that's my Bobby! Okay. I mean, it's a stellar cast. I will say that. A stellar cast. Yeah. Michael Keaton, Adam Scott. Is Michael Keaton in this?
[00:43:15] In The Whisper Man? Yeah. Who is he? Frank Carter. Like you're gonna know the character? I don't know what you want. Is he The Whisper Man? I didn't see him in this trailer. I don't remember him in it either, but he's looking... I'm looking up the Wikipedia page. Is he the... No, no. I mean, he's on IMDB too, but is he the voice of The Whisper Man? He must be then. I don't... Frank Carter. It would be weird if Michael Keaton was in this movie and he's not in the trailer and he's not The Whisper Man. That...
[00:43:44] He is a very famous actor to not be... Yeah. That is weird. It doesn't say who he's playing or anything? It says Frank Carton or Canton. Frank Carter. Yeah, Frank Carter. Interesting. What part do you want? What do you want from Nate here? Who does Hamish Linklater play in? Oh my gosh. It's Hamish. Yeah, and it's Linklater. Is it really Hamish? Linklater. That's... His is fake. Is yours real? I think it is Hamish. You think it's Hamish? Yeah. He is Hamish. What makes you say that? Because that's how you say Hamish? Yeah.
[00:44:15] I think it's Hamish. Yeah, you guys got any more of those Amish guys that can come work on a barn? It doesn't say. Interesting. But who he plays. So, yeah. Well, now if he's not The Whisper Man, I'm going to be upset. I don't know who this Whisper Man is, but I don't like him. Oh boy. Okay, this is something I can't... You want to hear what you whisper, huh? Huh? I'll whisper sweet nothings into your mom's ear. Are you watching horror movies again? No, Brad. No.
[00:44:45] I... How dare you? Okay, hey. Do you want me... In what... We've... I saw you last week. I saw you last week. And what the fuck in my life has changed in a week where I would have more time to watch horror movies on top of other movies I'm not watching. No, no. Not about time. Just because you used to watch a lot of horror movies, there was a period where you didn't for a very personal reason. Oh, yeah, no. But no, but that's why I was watching horror movies again.
[00:45:14] Yeah, no, my ex-girlfriend was the big horror fan and we watched movies together a lot of times and so then just I just watched... You took a break. Took a break from them just because I was watching a lot of them and I didn't really want to watch them with Ashley for whatever reason. And yeah, that and just like... It's over though. I didn't finish a couple serieses, you know, that we were working about. But yeah, I don't care at all now. Hey, I did Google. Do you want to spoiler or no? No, I don't want to spoiler.
[00:45:39] I was asking because Adam Scott also starred in another horror movie called... Ah, I bet it's ringing, whatever the spoiler is. Don't say anything because I don't want it spoiled. Don't say anything. Oh boy. So I asked... How are they going to get in the bank vault? I asked this about because the director... Sorry, Adam Scott's in this movie and Adam Scott was in another horror movie this year called The Office. The Hocum and...
[00:46:09] Ah, he's bad. He sucks. He sucks. He sucks. Look, he's just in a rubber head so many times. And just see what happens. The Hocum came out this year. It's a horror movie. And it's directed by Damien McCarthy who did... Is that different than Hocum Pocum? Did you watch The Oddity? The Hocum Pocum is one of my favorite Disney ones. Did we talk about that? Listen, the Hocum Pocum was really funny. And I'm really mad that you're doing this. I had to wait. I'm like, guy, he's got to give me that one. This is a... You've always said this is a movie podcast, not a comedy podcast. And here you are. This is a comedy podcast.
[00:46:39] We're trying to do Trailerpalooza and you're over here saying Hocum Pocum joke. Yeah, because it was... That was a good joke. It was a very good joke. Anyway, did we talk about The Oddity? I think I meant it. You were misread. It's The Odyssey. We just talked about it last week. It's awesome. It's a film. It's actually... And I just saw it. So let me tell you... We're not talking about that on this episode. You know that. Okay, dad. Jesus. You know what? There's good horror movies. Yes. Go see the other one with Adam Scott too. It's called Hocum. I'm so sick of this. It's not in theaters anymore. You can watch it at home now. Okay.
[00:47:10] Fucking hell. What happened? Why are you so mad? You guys have piss poor attitudes to you. What? We're in a good mood right now. What happened to you? I don't want to watch horror movies. I just want to talk about the wisdom man. You can't talk like that. Ugly. Not to me. You're ugly as sin. Wow. Yeah. Who's the one? Both of you. No, which sin? Oh. You idiot. Do you know who also is in Hocum? My cookie didn't. That's not true. That's not true. That's not true at all.
[00:47:39] But he is in Free Guy 2. Oh, I hate you. You know what? Let's switch things over. No, duh. If it's another horror movie, I'm going to be bit to Resident Evil. To another scary guy. To another scary guy. His name is Buddy. What did you guys think of the Buddy trailer? Which one was that one? We watched too many. That's the short one with the kids show where it starts taking a... Yeah. I'll have to watch that one not with the kids. Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. That looks scary.
[00:48:09] That really did kind of... Not, you know, scare scare, but like, that's creepy, man. I'll give it to him. You guys, by the way, are you following... Side note. Yes. Are you following the Keegan-Michael Key stuff that his wife is controlling him? Ugh. You got any tea on that, Brad? No, I mean, it's... It's sad. But you know this... Based on where it's coming from, it makes perfect sense and it's really upsetting. So can you give me the 30 seconds on it?
[00:48:38] So basically, this started because a black female comedian, I forget her name, she was doing a set somewhere. I forget, yeah. She recorded it and released it and then she finally decided to just post it online, not worry about burning bridges. But the way she presented it was it was very easy to link this to Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele. Because she said like... She's like, I work for somebody in the entertainment industry. Let's just call him Locke. And so she went to tell on this whole story and basically what it comes down to is Keegan-Michael
[00:49:07] Key's wife is apparently an extremely controlling woman and has basically taken control of his career and life and like is a very difficult person to work with and she's constantly trying to work on stuff that Keegan is involved with and has a very loud creative voice and... Requires that she's a part of everything. Yeah. And has really created a lot of conflict and people don't like working with him because of how intense and involved she is. Oh, no. It's too bad because I love him. Yeah. And it sounds like this is the reason that him and Peele stopped working together and
[00:49:36] aren't really like friends anymore. Close to that. So that's... Wow. That sucks, dude. It really sucks. So... Keegan-Michael Key does play Buddy the Unicorn. Call me. Call me if you need me, buddy. So the most exciting thing for me is that this comes from a guy named Casper Kelly. And if you don't know his name, he was the creator of that strange adult swim short called Too Many Cooks, which went viral and became a huge sensation.
[00:50:02] That was a fascinating, hilarious, twisted piece of work that I absolutely loved watching and knowing that he's bringing those same sensibilities to a movie like this. This tracks for sure. This looks like it's going to be really cool. It played at Sundance and apparently it's very good. Yeah, no. I will... This is one I would like to see if you got and I'd get together with you instead of the family. This seems like one that my son Finn would want to watch and he convinced me to watch with him. For sure. I'm in. Sit down. Because it's weird enough to... It's not like...
[00:50:32] It just looks weird and scary. Yeah. I would probably see it. All right. What's next, buddy boy? Well, we've talked about a lot of scary guys. And this time I want to kick it over to a scary lady called The Other Mommy. Okay. This one... This is a creep-tastic trailer. This is really a creep-tastic trailer. Yeah. Very good trailer. I was caught off guard by the trailer on several occasions. I only needed to see it once to know exactly that I'm going to not watch this because I can't do it by myself for sure.
[00:51:01] So, Nate, maybe you and I, I don't know. What do you say? Noon? Hey, welcome to my life, buddy. Welcome to... I'm glad I brought you over. Seriously. What's funny is this first played attached to The Odyssey. I... That's when I saw it. That's right. That's when I saw it. I loved the memes about this, too. Like, about this trailer. Like, people are like, watch this trailer because I don't want to watch The Odyssey anymore. You're just getting up and leaving. Well... I don't want to be here right now. I don't want to see movies anymore.
[00:51:30] This place is a little too dark for me. I'm out of here. I don't need to be scared. No, and anytime there's a good child actor and this actor looks really good, it makes a film like this. Oh, yeah. Because it's like, you also... You're not even the scary part, but you kind of also terrify me. Like, it's so... Jessica Chastain looks fantastic. Like, it's just so... Yeah. This could be creepy. I'm not going to see it. But for horror fiction, let us know.
[00:52:00] Let's take Nate to see it. That would be the worst idea. What would you be like in public? Oh, can we... I want actually... What if the three of us were at the film theater? I literally would just be doing this. Would you... Are you joking? Would you not literally watch? I mean, I would watch as many... But then as soon as there's like tension with music or anything, I'd just do this because I see it. So, I think what I would like to do at least once during Halloween season... Oh, not scary season. I want to watch a horror movie with Nate that he hasn't seen that is legitimately scary. Okay. All right.
[00:52:29] Let's go to the theater and let's see this together. Does it come out around Halloween? October 9th. Oh. That could be fun. All right. You heard it here first, folks. We'll go to a matinee. I want to get outside and... I'll talk to AMC to turn the lights on in the theater a little bit. Any special requests? Yes. All the lights on, please. A couple. Yeah. A couple. Well, that's a scary mommy.
[00:52:57] All this means is you've set yourself up for some dumb transition. And now I want to work it over to something completely unrelated. It's an animated movie called Not Alone from Illumination Entertainment. What a fucking letdown. But it's... Yeah. It's charming-ish. So here's the thing. I was... For the first 95% of this trailer, I was like, wow. Illumination Entertainment has something special on their hands and this looks great. And then the aliens showed up.
[00:53:26] I was like, oh, this is a Minions movie. Yeah. Exactly. So it's like, whatever. They got me, though. Yeah. Because I was like, this is good. The trailer's got heart. And you get excited about it. And then it's just like, oh. Because... And there's something that's amusing about it. I think it's funny that the aliens are British. Yeah. There's some amusing things about it. But also, I just wish that it was Illumination trying to do something a little bit more mature. Sure. Something that surprises you. Yeah. No, it does.
[00:53:55] I want an animated film that's not... And I get why they do it. But you know that they're not just looking for what can we brand to sell. Right? And this is definitely one of those films. And the thing is, I want kids to have silly movies. I watched some very silly, stupid movies when I was a kid that my parents knew were trash. Porky's. Porky's 2. Emmanuel in Space. Valley of the Dolls. But no, I... Valley of the Dolls.
[00:54:23] I want kids to be able to have silly movies. So the Minions movies, they're fine. You know, Despicable Me movies, it's fine. Whatever. You don't like Minions. I do. I like Minions. I like them too. I will say I have heard that Minions and Monsters is very good. Well, it doesn't shock me because the whole Minions universe is good. Yeah. I don't know about that. It is fun. It is fun. No, it is fun. I agree. It's enjoyable. They're so much fun. And they're funny. I legitimately laugh. I'm a little averse to how many fart jokes there are in those movies. Yeah, but you don't like farts. Well, that's not true at all. Okay, then. What's your problem? I love a good blast poof.
[00:54:53] A good blast poof. Yeah, right out of your booty. Nabisco's new blast poofs. Pick it up right now. What a terrible slogan. Pick it up right now. Pick it up right now at your store. You got to eat. Might as well be this. But yeah, so I don't know. Taco Bell. Who we kidding? Taco Bell. Yeah, it's the lettuce.
[00:55:25] Anyway, now let's move it over to something kind of scary. It better not be another horror movie. It's going to be Resident Evil. Okay, I don't want to talk about that. It's another Resident Evil movie. But actually, I disagree. Because those Resident Evil movies sucked. And this looks good. This actually looks okay. Yeah, and this is from Zach Crager. The guy who did Weapons and Barbarian. So I did see that. And I was like, shit. I don't know why he would. Why not just make another movie then? They're zombie movies. They don't have a lockdown.
[00:55:55] It doesn't have to be called Resident Evil. What's going on? To be fair, I think Resident Evil, though, it's a little bit more than a zombie movie. There's more to it than just undead walking and stuff like that. It's the same movie over and over again. In a way. But I think the fact that Crager did it speaks to that this is probably something. I think they're taking this property and idea and just doing what he wants to do with it, which makes a good movie. And that's great. And I think it's perfectly fine, especially if he gets to make a movie like this and got to do what he wanted to. And then he gets to make money from this and then gets to go do something like Barbarian or weapons.
[00:56:24] I just don't know that Resident Evil has the staying power to be that thing. Because it'll make its money back plus some. But are they really blockbusters? Do they make $100 million at the box office? I mean, this budget is $80 million. So it does need to make some money. So $80 million, it makes $160 or $200 million. The Paul W.S. Anderson Resident Evil movies were very successful because they were so cheap to make. Well, that's fair. That's fair. But okay.
[00:56:51] So I guess my point is, unless I'm having this conversation with you, this movie is going to miss me because I haven't tuned in for a Resident Evil movie. In years. Sure. But I also think that this is, it's clear this is not the same Resident Evil. I get that, but I would even watch the trailer. Yeah. Because I don't need to. There's not a single Resident Evil movie. So I'm saying, I never would have known about it. Amongst the initial one, not the reboot, Resident Evil Welcome to Raccoon City.
[00:57:21] Yeah, that's a whole different thing. But amongst the one from 2002 to 2017, that did not make money. Yeah. And so, you know, I mean the last one from 2017, Resident Evil The Final Chapter, $40 million budget, $314 million. Yeah. And I think it's pretty big overseas too. So they do have, it is a bigger upside than I thought. Oh, it is way bigger overseas. All these types. Yeah. So yeah. There it is then.
[00:57:47] I think it's the appeal of the title as a video game title, especially overseas, that will probably push this to get more attention than you might think. Well, and then if it gets good reviews and then you're going to get a guy like me to actually go see it. Exactly. That's great, man. Yeah, exactly. To compare, that 2017 film made $314 million. $287 million was non-North American. Yeah. Only $26 million was made in North America. That makes sense. So. How about them apples?
[00:58:18] Let's talk about something else scary. That can't be. We're out of trailers and talk scary stuff. That's not true. We have the South Korean film Hope that we haven't talked about yet. That's more action. What? Did you see the monsters in this thing? One of them looks like a big, tall, skinny, scary woman with dark ring hair. Yeah, but it still definitely looks very, very, very action heavy. And so I don't think it's, I don't know. I don't think it's going to play as a horror at all. I think it's just an action movie that has fantastic elements. I think it's got some horror in there.
[00:58:48] Okay. Anyway. This is a movie from Nah Hong Jin. He's a pretty renowned South Korean director. He's done movies like The Wailing and The Chaser and The Yellow Sea. They're very popular, very high regarded, highly regarded. And this just looks incredibly cool. I was impressed by just the kineticism behind the camera, just the way it's moving through the forest and the way it's following the cars like that.
[00:59:16] It's like you feel the speed of it and it doesn't feel fake. It feels tangible. And it just looks cool. I think that there's, every now and then there's some dodgy effects where I'm like, that could probably look a little bit better. Hey, they're going to finish it before the movie comes out, buddy. Sure. But yeah, it looks cool. I was very impressed by how much fun this looked. You don't like to read, Nate, so I'm a hard pass for you. Actually, actually. Oh, I'm sorry. This is a different feeling.
[00:59:43] No, this film is in English and Korean because Michael Fassbender's in this, Alicia Vikander, what is that? Sure, whatever you want. Whatever you want. And Cameron Britton and Taylor Russell are all in this film. Yeah. You're saying you're not going to have to read? Only part of it, half of it. So you're okay with reading half? Yeah, I can do that. That's racist. Yeah, pretty racist. What, reading movies is racist? No, you are. No, only wanting to read some of them. I'm not saying me.
[01:00:12] I'm saying some of our listeners. Nate, would you rather watch this or Toxic? This. Why? Yeah. This looks like a better film. Wow. Ben? I would so much rather see Toxic. Yeah. I'm just joking. I want to see these both equally. Yeah, same. This is getting very good reviews. Yes, it is. It has. And always will be. When does it come out, Nate? It's out. This film comes out. I'm getting good reviews.
[01:00:42] No, because it played festivals. July 15th in South Korea. That's not where we are. I know. I'm trying to figure out. September 29th. I'm trying to vamp a little bit. Just calling you. That's not where we are. I know. September 9th. Cool. In America. There you go. All right. Let's watch movies. Yeah. That's the trailers. Do you want me to go through the... I didn't really read a lot of the... Release states? Sure, let's do it. Why not? All right. Digger comes out October 2nd. The Mongoose comes out October 30th.
[01:01:12] The Whisperer Man is coming out to Netflix on August 28th. I Play Rocky is November 13th. May Day will go to Apple TV. On September 4th. Buddy will be August 28th. Not Alone is April 16th. 2017. Yep. Other Mommy is October 9th. Resident Evil is September 18th. Clayface is October 23rd. Wow. And Ebenezer is November 13th. What about Hope and Toxic?
[01:01:41] Hope is September 9th, as I just said. Uh-huh. Toxic is August 26th. Sweet. We forgot one, actually. And I'm glad because we saved the best for last. Oh, yes, we did. October 9th release to Apple TV. What? What? Oh, you're just going to preempt? Yeah. We didn't talk about Matchbox the movie. Matchbox 20, the biopic. Oh, boy. Matchbox 20, the biopic. I want to push you around. No.
[01:02:11] Which works for Matchbox the movie. Right. I want to push you around. Oh, that's good. That's good. Matchbox the movie looks like shit. Are you serious about that? I'm dead serious. It's fun. Here's the thing. It's fun. I disagree. I think there are a few good jokes in this trailer that I would much prefer see an original action movie that isn't trying to shoehorn in a reference to a very popular toy line.
[01:02:37] The fact that this is called Matchbox the movie is insane because the only thing that is Matchbox about this movie is the fact that the core group of friends in it, they call themselves the Matchbox gang because they used to play Matchbox cars together as kids. That's it. And now they're caught up in this fantastical action scenario. Well, the first Fast and the Furious movie, they were stealing DVD players. Yeah, but you know what they didn't call the movie? Hot Wheels. They could have. Okay. So, all right. Suspend that. Okay.
[01:03:06] I'll give you that. Not the best name. And we'll see how they wrap Matchbox into this. You see how they do it in the trailer. That's it. But what I'm saying, though, is I don't care. Sam Richardson looks funny in this. I like him in this. John Cena is going to be funny in this. He's going to be great. This is, I'm not expecting the best movie in the world. I expect a film that Ben and I are going to enjoy watching, and it will be. But knowing what Apple spends on their productions, it feels like an immense waste of money. No, but let me say this, too.
[01:03:34] I actually think I kind of trust Apple. I think Apple makes pretty good films. I trust Apple with TV shows. I'm not sure I trust them to make great movies. No. I think that their track record with movies is far less impressive than TV shows. Whatever. Doesn't matter, Brad. Like there's Killers of the Fire Moon. You're just mad. There's Killers of the Fire Moon, and there's Coda. Which you didn't like. Yeah, you don't like. You don't like. That's it. Those are the two big ones. Yeah. Those are the ones I do like.
[01:04:01] There's no other films that you like. The Tom Hanks one was pretty decent. Tom Hanks one was fantastic. Don't ever talk ill about it. The Man Called Otto? No, Finch. Finch is so good. The Man Called Otto was a remake. I remember that. What about The Man Called Orr? F1. Yeah. Mad that I knew that, Brad? F1's good. I liked F1 a lot. Yeah, F1's great. It's just good. It's great. I love that film. The Gorge? I actually didn't hate The Gorge. I like The Gorge a lot. It's okay. The Gorge was gorgeous.
[01:04:33] You didn't like Fly Me to the Moon? It was fine. We watched that together. Yeah, it was fine. Yeah. Yeah. Blitz? I'm not sure I know what that is. Oh. Well, see, then you can't review films. Like, that's with... The fact that I don't know about it is kind of a big deal. The one movie? I had seen most of the other ones. What about Wolves with George Clooney and... I saw that. I didn't watch it. I heard it wasn't very good. It was fine. The Instigators? Forgettable. Totally forgettable. It was fine. Argyle? It was fine.
[01:05:02] I enjoyed Argyle, but I know people didn't like it very much. I was one of those people. Yeah. I was like, it's fine. Flora and Son? I actually didn't dislike Flora and Son. That was good. I liked that one. I agree with that. I liked that one. And these are all... Apple movies. Apple TV. It's one of my favorite Christmas movies of the last... Yeah. I think Spirited is great. It's fine. No, it's great. It's fine. I'll have to do that a rewatch this year. Let me shut your whore mouth. My whore mouth? Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. It's so good. I love it.
[01:05:31] It's a great soundtrack. It's really good. For someone who should be very familiar with the story about a whore, I feel like disparaging me for being one. It's pretty rude. My mom... Oh, God. Here we go. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I would say this too. I know you don't like this film. I was going to say, no, you don't like my mom. I do. I don't hate The Greatest Beer Run Ever. The what? The Greatest Beer Run Ever. No. Did you see it? Yeah, I did. I don't hate it. Did you watch it? I did not watch it. You should, because I think you would like it better.
[01:06:01] Cool. You'll see through it. And I think Coda's a great film. Coda's a great film. I agree with you. Okay, then. All right. Well, we did it, guys. Is that all of them? I mean, there's lots more, but... Do you actually think Matchbox is going to be good, or do you just think it's going to be fun? I'm going to watch it because the boys are going to want to watch it, and I'm probably going to be able to suspend my disbelief enough to laugh at some silly jokes and have some fun and not really care that it's called the Matchbox movie. And also, don't you feel like this is the type of film John Cena does well in?
[01:06:31] It is. I like to... Actually, Heads of State, him and... Yeah, that's okay. No, exactly. They did a few things with the camera work, with the action scenes that I hadn't seen before. It's a better action movie than it was a comedy. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. And it's because, though, John Cena should not be cast as the comedian ever. But that's kind of what... And Idris Elba and him can both do that role of, I'm a tough guy, I can also be funny. Well, John... Pick one, though. John Cena shouldn't be the comedy lead in an action comedy. Exactly.
[01:07:01] No, exactly. Because if you... I think if you talk about blockers or even something like Ricky Sinecki, he's the funniest And that's why I think this could work, because he's not. Agreed. So it's... I think that John Cena movies only work when he's either playing the most outrageous character possible. Yeah. Right? I will say this. It's not like that I think this is going to be a great movie. But when I see that this has come out, I'm going to watch it. Sure. Sad. You're sad. You're a sad little man. Yeah.
[01:07:29] There's so many movies you could spend your time watching that you would just love and enjoy. No, I do. I try to watch those too. We watch those too, Brad. We watch The Odyssey. You won't even let me talk about The Odyssey. You still haven't even watched the movie that I assigned you months ago. Because it's not good. Oh my God. It was nominated and... Oh, all films nominated are good? For a Razzie. For Best Picture. And what, the Dump Awards? Yeah. Doing Andrew Dice Clay. Yeah. It's The Dump Awards. I'm your host, Andrew DC. We got some bad gutters over here. No.
[01:08:00] No. You shut that whore mouth, Brad. You shut that whore mouth. Hey, why don't you come down to my arcade and suck my tempo machine? No. Absolutely not. Knock it off. More like dick fusion, am I right? Go home. Hey, why don't you come check out my pirate ships? Anyway. That's all the time we have. Get us out of this. Get us out of this. You know what? We had so much fun with Trailer Palooza.
[01:08:30] It had to end like this. You know, this started off like Woodstock and ended up like Woodstock 99. Woodstock 99. Oh! Bye, everybody. Bye. Bye. Nah, cheat saying. Bye.
