Episode 228 - Marisa Tomei's Masturbatory Monkey

Ben, Brad, and Nate are finishing off spooky season with a whimper. While Brad has kept on enjoying Friday the 13th and is moving into the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise to lead into Freddy vs Jason, Nate was too scared to complete his assigned movie. But Ben definitely watched his assignment, and just hearing him talk about it is a treat in itself. Plus, Brad saw Smile 2, Nate cried through The Wild Robot and found some new Brothers in Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage. Unfortunately, Brad totally forgot to talk about his assignment, so he'll get that on the next episode. But we still talk about the trailers for Wolf Man (ZOMBIE GANDALF!) and The Electric State (FROM THE DIRECTORS OF THE GRAY MAN!). Let's have some fun in your ears!

[00:00:16] Hey everybody, it's another episode of Go Flix Yourself. My name is Ben Conowitz and with me as always is the family circus to my far side, Bradford Oman.

[00:00:25] Hey that's me, I'm Jeffy and I'm in trouble.

[00:00:28] Not me!

[00:00:29] He he he he he he!

[00:00:31] Oh Jeffy, you fuck.

[00:00:33] Whoa!

[00:00:35] And the close to home to my far side, Nate Laux.

[00:00:39] Is that a real thing?

[00:00:40] Which one is close to home?

[00:00:41] It's another single panel, like funny.

[00:00:43] Oh.

[00:00:44] Is it funny though?

[00:00:44] It's funny.

[00:00:45] You should have gone with Foxtrot.

[00:00:47] Yeah.

[00:00:47] No, I was trying to do something that was actually funny.

[00:00:49] Foxtrot is funny.

[00:00:50] I'm joking, I have literally the, they did those anthology books.

[00:00:54] Yeah.

[00:00:54] I have like all three of them.

[00:00:56] I love Foxtrot.

[00:00:57] There's way more than three.

[00:00:58] Well whatever, I've got like the big ones.

[00:00:59] That wasn't one that became super right wing, was it?

[00:01:02] No.

[00:01:02] No, God, that's Dilbert.

[00:01:03] That's Dilbert.

[00:01:03] Yeah, fuck Dilbert.

[00:01:04] It's gotta have some shit.

[00:01:05] No, Foxtrot was great because they always had pop culture references.

[00:01:07] Yes.

[00:01:08] And what was the other one again?

[00:01:09] Close to home.

[00:01:10] I think you'd enjoy it.

[00:01:11] It's pretty funny.

[00:01:12] It's a single panel Sunday comic.

[00:01:15] Nowhere near as funny as The Farside, but still better than Family Circus.

[00:01:18] What about Heathcliff?

[00:01:19] I should have called you that.

[00:01:21] Doonesbury.

[00:01:22] Doonesbury.

[00:01:23] Mary Worth.

[00:01:24] Baby Blues.

[00:01:25] Kathy.

[00:01:25] Let's just keep going.

[00:01:27] The Wizard of Id.

[00:01:29] Oh, there we go.

[00:01:29] That's a good one.

[00:01:31] Baby Blues.

[00:01:32] I said, I just said yeah.

[00:01:33] Did you say Baby Blues?

[00:01:34] I just said Baby Blues.

[00:01:34] Oh shit, nevermind.

[00:01:36] Heathcliff.

[00:01:37] Didn't they do an animated series of Baby Blues?

[00:01:38] They might have.

[00:01:40] It's called The Rugrats.

[00:01:41] An adult oriented Baby Blues series.

[00:01:43] That was called Herman's Head.

[00:01:45] Huh.

[00:01:46] Oh.

[00:01:46] Well, this is, go fix yourself.

[00:01:48] This is a movie podcast where we talk about the latest movies we've seen.

[00:01:51] We talk about some new movie trailers.

[00:01:54] We ham around a little bit.

[00:01:56] Oh wait, did you bring a sponsor?

[00:01:59] Why don't you slow down?

[00:02:00] Did you actually?

[00:02:00] Wow.

[00:02:01] I didn't see one.

[00:02:01] Nate, did you see one?

[00:02:02] Wow.

[00:02:03] Why don't you slow down?

[00:02:04] Wow.

[00:02:04] Did you bring a sponsor?

[00:02:05] It's just like really quickly.

[00:02:07] Yeah.

[00:02:07] It's just like he's just like-

[00:02:08] Well, the latest episode's been an hour and a half, so we're trying to get through this.

[00:02:11] It's like he paid, he gave the hooker the money, he got in, he immediately slid his

[00:02:15] pants off and just like jumps right into the bonin, you know?

[00:02:19] What do you do with your hookers?

[00:02:22] I don't know about you.

[00:02:23] I like some sweet, sweet talk.

[00:02:25] I like a little-

[00:02:26] A little romance?

[00:02:26] I like some nice talk to begin with.

[00:02:29] What does nice talk with a hooker for you entail?

[00:02:31] So what do you do in your free time?

[00:02:33] Oh, that would be the most awkward conversation ever where you're just sitting on a shitty

[00:02:38] motel bed and you're like, so what do you do when you're not doing this?

[00:02:40] You've never had a nice conversation with an exotic dancer?

[00:02:44] No.

[00:02:46] They're people too, Ben.

[00:02:47] Ah.

[00:02:48] They have careers.

[00:02:49] Yeah, and they make good money.

[00:02:52] I'm talking about outside of exotic dancing.

[00:02:53] They don't all want to be there forever.

[00:02:55] Oh yeah, they're all in nursing school.

[00:02:57] Or nursing homes.

[00:02:59] Oh, well, at the kind of clubs I go to.

[00:03:01] Ew.

[00:03:02] Ew.

[00:03:02] Yeah.

[00:03:03] I'm just there for the buffet.

[00:03:05] Ladies and gentlemen.

[00:03:05] The buffet of ladies.

[00:03:06] If you turn to the main stage, we've got Esther.

[00:03:10] Just leaving Ruth.

[00:03:12] It's not baby Ruth.

[00:03:13] Definitely not.

[00:03:14] Playing old school 1920s jazz.

[00:03:17] There's my flappers.

[00:03:19] Ew.

[00:03:20] That's what they call breasts back in the 20s.

[00:03:22] You ruined it.

[00:03:24] Ben, let me ask you something.

[00:03:26] What's your favorite strip club memory?

[00:03:29] What is your favorite strip club memory?

[00:03:30] Oh man, there was one time?

[00:03:32] No.

[00:03:34] He's just going to get in trouble.

[00:03:35] That's why he's not saying it.

[00:03:36] He's going to get in trouble.

[00:03:37] I'm going to talk to you guys something.

[00:03:39] Don't look at the package, but you're going to know how to open it.

[00:03:43] That's a condom.

[00:03:44] These are rubbers.

[00:03:47] Things are going to get real weird real quick.

[00:03:50] Go ahead and open them up.

[00:03:53] Get yourself in there.

[00:03:55] I don't trust this at all.

[00:03:56] Some of these snackaroos.

[00:03:59] Is it a dunkaroo?

[00:04:01] No.

[00:04:01] One of the things you've seen dunkaroos come in packages like this.

[00:04:03] It's a gusher.

[00:04:04] Did you like dunkaroos?

[00:04:06] These are gushers.

[00:04:06] I love dunkaroos.

[00:04:07] I knew that without you.

[00:04:08] Are these grape gushers?

[00:04:11] Nate, go ahead.

[00:04:12] I'm going to say these are grape gushers.

[00:04:16] These are definitely gushers.

[00:04:19] Wednesday gushers?

[00:04:21] Why would you spoil it?

[00:04:22] I mean, I'm reading it.

[00:04:23] Yeah, why don't you guess first?

[00:04:25] Because I said, are these gushers?

[00:04:27] They're grape gushers, and you just didn't say anything.

[00:04:28] Yeah, that's why I wanted to wait for Nate.

[00:04:30] Yeah, I was going to guess.

[00:04:31] Is it Wednesday gushers?

[00:04:36] These are delicious.

[00:04:37] These are gushers.

[00:04:38] I ate all of them.

[00:04:39] He literally just took the whole pouch and just handed it into his mouth.

[00:04:41] This is so good.

[00:04:43] Give me more.

[00:04:44] These are Wednesday-themed gushers for Halloween.

[00:04:47] The flavor.

[00:04:48] We were broadcasting for like seven hours.

[00:04:49] I need more.

[00:04:50] The flavor is blueberry grape despair.

[00:04:53] I need more.

[00:04:55] These are delicious.

[00:04:57] These are just a tap into my childhood.

[00:04:58] This is grape gushers, baby.

[00:04:59] Ben famously loves grape gushers.

[00:05:01] Oh, Brad.

[00:05:02] No, I knew you would like these.

[00:05:04] Where'd you get these?

[00:05:05] Because I need more.

[00:05:06] They're in stores.

[00:05:07] I don't know which stores.

[00:05:08] They won't be for now.

[00:05:09] Any grocery stores.

[00:05:10] I'm going to buy them out.

[00:05:11] Do it.

[00:05:13] Yeah, you can find Wednesday blueberry grape despair gushers in stores.

[00:05:18] Those are so good.

[00:05:18] Those are so good.

[00:05:19] They're very good.

[00:05:19] Did you bring the whole box?

[00:05:21] Fuck no.

[00:05:22] Why won't you share them with us?

[00:05:23] Yeah, why do you mean?

[00:05:24] I did share them with you.

[00:05:24] I just brought you guys a nice little pouch of gushers.

[00:05:26] These are amazing.

[00:05:29] Hurry, because Halloween's almost up, so they're going to be gone soon.

[00:05:32] You got to run in there and just snatch them.

[00:05:34] These are so good.

[00:05:35] Calm down.

[00:05:36] They were so good.

[00:05:37] It sounded like you just got done making out with a maid.

[00:05:40] Making out with a maid?

[00:05:41] Yeah.

[00:05:42] Why is that like that?

[00:05:42] Like a sexy maid.

[00:05:44] That's not me.

[00:05:45] That's me.

[00:05:46] I was saying, for the listener, he's the one making noises.

[00:05:52] So there you go.

[00:05:53] Yeah.

[00:05:53] Wednesday gushers.

[00:05:54] They're in stores right now.

[00:05:54] It's a nice dark purple box.

[00:05:57] I like that very much.

[00:05:57] Check them out.

[00:05:58] They're delicious.

[00:05:59] Good job, Brad.

[00:05:59] You're welcome.

[00:06:00] That's the best thing you've ever brought on the podcast.

[00:06:01] Well, it's only going to get worse from here.

[00:06:03] Damn it.

[00:06:03] We're heading into November.

[00:06:04] We're going to get Thursday gushers.

[00:06:07] They're just stale.

[00:06:09] Thursday gushers was my favorite party.

[00:06:11] Ew.

[00:06:16] Ew.

[00:06:16] And Friday gushers were right back to the strip club.

[00:06:19] Hey-o.

[00:06:20] Oh, no.

[00:06:20] All right.

[00:06:21] We're on the main stage.

[00:06:22] Put the tarps down, boys.

[00:06:24] Oh, yuck.

[00:06:27] Two gross jokes.

[00:06:28] Yeah, we did it.

[00:06:31] Ben, what is the last movie you saw?

[00:06:34] Have you seen a film?

[00:06:35] Have you been watching movies?

[00:06:37] So because we are almost into the new house, I actually have been because at night,

[00:06:43] the boys are going to bed about 8.30.

[00:06:45] Ashley's exhausted from the movie and so am I.

[00:06:47] So she's reading and she's giving me a little time to watch some films.

[00:06:50] So I re-watched Deadpool and Wolverine.

[00:06:53] I just finished that last night.

[00:06:54] How did it go for your second round?

[00:06:56] You know, I think that I just, there's a lot of the second jokes.

[00:07:00] You know, you laugh pretty hard.

[00:07:02] And so some of the Ryan Reynolds stuff is pretty rapid fire.

[00:07:04] So I appreciated some of the other nuanced stuff.

[00:07:08] I just, Hugh Jackman is so fucking ripped.

[00:07:12] Yeah.

[00:07:12] It was more apparent this time than last time.

[00:07:14] He's also just really good in this movie.

[00:07:15] No, he is.

[00:07:16] He's great.

[00:07:17] You know, yeah, he's wonderful.

[00:07:19] Yeah, no, it's just as good as the first time I saw it.

[00:07:22] It's a very, very good film.

[00:07:25] Dog Pool is still awesome.

[00:07:27] That fucking little dog.

[00:07:28] Yeah, that was great.

[00:07:29] I watched Quiet Place day one.

[00:07:31] Oh, what did you think?

[00:07:32] Oh, yeah, I haven't seen that yet.

[00:07:33] I liked it.

[00:07:35] It's obviously different than A Quiet Place.

[00:07:38] Yeah.

[00:07:38] A Quiet Place part two.

[00:07:40] Lupita Nyong'o is fantastic.

[00:07:44] Who plays the therapist, the male therapist with the beard?

[00:07:51] Did you see it yet?

[00:07:52] Yeah, I've seen it.

[00:07:53] So yeah, do you know that?

[00:07:54] I've seen him in a lot of stuff.

[00:07:55] I just can't place him.

[00:07:56] I am drawing a blank for some reason on the character you're talking about.

[00:08:02] So originally, he's the one that takes her to the city and says,

[00:08:05] we're going to get pizza.

[00:08:06] Oh, it's their brothers.

[00:08:10] What is their...

[00:08:11] I'm sorry.

[00:08:13] Alex Wolfe.

[00:08:14] So what has he been...

[00:08:15] Because again, I've seen him in something very...

[00:08:17] Oh, he's Nat Wolfe's.

[00:08:18] Yeah, he's Nat Wolfe's brother.

[00:08:19] I don't know if I'm confusing them, but I believe Alex Wolfe is the one who's in Hereditary.

[00:08:24] That might be it.

[00:08:26] Anyway.

[00:08:26] He's been in a bunch of stuff, but...

[00:08:29] I have definitely seen him before.

[00:08:31] He was the...

[00:08:31] Other than Lupita, he was the recognizable...

[00:08:33] Yeah, he's in Hereditary.

[00:08:34] He's in Pig.

[00:08:35] He's in Old...

[00:08:35] Pig!

[00:08:36] Pig!

[00:08:36] He's also in Oppenheimer.

[00:08:38] He's in Pig.

[00:08:38] Oh, you know what else?

[00:08:39] He was in that was...

[00:08:40] He was pretty prominent in was Jumanji.

[00:08:43] Yes.

[00:08:43] The new Jumanji.

[00:08:44] That's true.

[00:08:44] There you go.

[00:08:45] Yep.

[00:08:45] I remember him for that as well.

[00:08:46] Yeah.

[00:08:46] Okay.

[00:08:46] Great actor.

[00:08:48] You know, this film is...

[00:08:50] It's very good.

[00:08:53] It's...

[00:08:53] I don't know.

[00:08:54] I hate to say it's a little long.

[00:08:55] It's only long because of, obviously, the narrative they have to do is it's very quiet, right?

[00:09:00] Yeah.

[00:09:00] So, it does drag a little bit because...

[00:09:01] It's only 99 minutes.

[00:09:02] But I just...

[00:09:03] I felt like they could get...

[00:09:04] Like, again...

[00:09:05] Is that just you not having a lot of time to watch movies and you're like, I gotta get

[00:09:08] through this?

[00:09:09] Honestly, it really wasn't that this time because I...

[00:09:11] It just, like...

[00:09:13] The way that they told the story, I thought that they were just kind of, like, extending

[00:09:19] it to extend it, if that makes sense.

[00:09:21] Like, it didn't have a lot to do.

[00:09:24] I don't know.

[00:09:25] I mean, it's a short period of time.

[00:09:28] You only have so much you can do to develop those characters without doing a bunch of flashbacks

[00:09:33] or stuff like that.

[00:09:34] And so, I think I appreciate what they did with the screen time real estate that they

[00:09:39] had.

[00:09:39] That's fair.

[00:09:40] I just...

[00:09:40] It wasn't as...

[00:09:41] Maybe as gripping as I was hoping for.

[00:09:44] And maybe it's just because I've seen what these monsters have done twice.

[00:09:47] Yeah.

[00:09:47] And it's just like...

[00:09:48] It's hard to be like, oh, that's...

[00:09:49] I don't know.

[00:09:50] It's the third one.

[00:09:51] They're not new.

[00:09:52] I think...

[00:09:52] No, I think for me...

[00:09:53] Because, like, the monster stuff, you expect, like, you know what that's going to be like.

[00:09:56] But for me, I think it was...

[00:09:58] That dynamic between her and the survivor.

[00:09:59] Yeah, exactly.

[00:10:00] It was great.

[00:10:01] Joseph Quinn, who...

[00:10:02] Did you recognize him?

[00:10:03] Do you know what he's from?

[00:10:04] Yeah.

[00:10:04] Who is that?

[00:10:05] Do you remember?

[00:10:06] I don't know.

[00:10:07] Did you watch season four of Stranger Things?

[00:10:09] I did.

[00:10:10] Oh!

[00:10:10] Eddie?

[00:10:11] Mm-hmm.

[00:10:12] Holy shit.

[00:10:12] Eddie got a haircut.

[00:10:13] Yeah, he's great.

[00:10:14] He's a really good actor.

[00:10:15] Yeah.

[00:10:15] He's going to be in Gladiator 2 as well.

[00:10:17] Well, that means he's already in it.

[00:10:19] That's...

[00:10:20] You're right.

[00:10:22] That movie's out.

[00:10:23] No, it's not.

[00:10:24] No, but it's...

[00:10:25] Aaron Newworth just saw it.

[00:10:26] Well, he went to, like, an early press event for it.

[00:10:28] That means it's out, Brad.

[00:10:28] It is certainly done, though.

[00:10:30] November.

[00:10:31] It's wrapped.

[00:10:32] It is wrapped.

[00:10:33] It is.

[00:10:33] Because Aaron Newworth saw it.

[00:10:34] He's a friend of mine.

[00:10:35] You should go on his podcast.

[00:10:36] There is a final cut.

[00:10:37] Actually, you should go look up the podcast out now with Aaron and Abe because I appeared

[00:10:42] on that podcast to talk about Saturday Night, just as I did with this podcast coming up here

[00:10:46] shortly.

[00:10:47] And Ben was supposed to be on that podcast, but he's a piece of shit.

[00:10:51] Which job did you do better, though?

[00:10:52] Which podcast is better?

[00:10:53] I mean, our podcast is obviously, you know, top notch.

[00:10:57] Worse than his.

[00:10:58] His is very good.

[00:10:59] But Ben and I always have fun when we appear on...

[00:11:01] I really did miss going on that show.

[00:11:03] I love going on that show.

[00:11:03] Abe wasn't there this time, though, so...

[00:11:06] Aaron does a very good...

[00:11:07] He plays movie games, but they're hard.

[00:11:09] Yeah, he does make them challenging.

[00:11:11] Yeah.

[00:11:12] It's like for real people that watch movies, not just chuckle fucks like me and Brad.

[00:11:15] I'm not a chuckle fuck.

[00:11:16] I know a lot about movies.

[00:11:17] Yeah, but I beat him sometimes on the games.

[00:11:18] It's pretty fun.

[00:11:19] Not for really on Aaron's podcast.

[00:11:21] Yeah, no, I beat him on that one time, though.

[00:11:22] He doesn't really beat me.

[00:11:23] I really did.

[00:11:24] Anyway, so I watched that.

[00:11:25] I watched A Quiet Place, day one.

[00:11:27] I watched Deadpool and Wolverine.

[00:11:30] I watched...

[00:11:32] Then I watched my assigned film.

[00:11:34] What was that?

[00:11:37] My friend...

[00:11:38] What, it's a cow movie?

[00:11:40] I'm so excited about this.

[00:11:41] Hold on.

[00:11:41] I got to get on my phone real quick and go to my...

[00:11:43] Because he forgot the title.

[00:11:45] Nope.

[00:11:45] I got to go to my...

[00:11:46] It's okay if you did.

[00:11:47] I got to go to my Google Docs.

[00:11:48] Google Dirks.

[00:11:50] Because...

[00:11:50] This is a film I gave you...

[00:11:51] Not because it's a good film.

[00:11:53] No, no.

[00:11:53] But because this film has...

[00:11:55] You said that you saw this film a dozen times.

[00:11:58] Oh, yeah.

[00:11:58] For sure.

[00:11:59] And was it all in the 90s that you saw this?

[00:12:01] Yeah, for sure.

[00:12:01] So, like, you saw this movie and then you were like, yep, this is my film.

[00:12:05] I believe this is how the wealthy operate.

[00:12:09] And you believe that to this day?

[00:12:11] There's part of me that does, yes.

[00:12:12] So, this movie is called Surviving the Game.

[00:12:15] Love it.

[00:12:16] I've never made a Google Doc while I was watching a film.

[00:12:18] I made a Google Doc and I have, as you can see here, there are bullet points, basically.

[00:12:23] There's a list of things I want to talk about in this film.

[00:12:25] This is the most outrageous 90s movie.

[00:12:28] It's so 90s.

[00:12:29] Uh-huh.

[00:12:29] It's so great.

[00:12:30] This is a movie starring Ice-T with dreadlocks.

[00:12:33] Yeah.

[00:12:33] So good.

[00:12:34] And he plays a homeless person...

[00:12:36] Yep.

[00:12:37] ...who is recruited to be a wilderness guide...

[00:12:40] Correct.

[00:12:40] Yep.

[00:12:41] ...under false pretenses by Charles S. Dutton.

[00:12:43] Yeah, he's the worst.

[00:12:55] ...from the very famous book, The Most Dangerous...

[00:12:57] I don't know what that is.

[00:12:58] So, Surviving the Game...

[00:12:59] Don't ruin this with a book.

[00:13:00] ...the first time ever this premise has ever been said.

[00:13:03] Mm-hmm.

[00:13:04] So, my first line says, Ice-T with dreads, because I know Ice-T from Law & Order.

[00:13:10] Right?

[00:13:10] You know, most people, I think, know Ice-T from his long-storied rap career.

[00:13:15] No, no.

[00:13:15] I know him from Law & Order.

[00:13:17] Are you 90?

[00:13:18] You watch CBS?

[00:13:19] Listen, I know him from...

[00:13:21] No, no.

[00:13:21] I was very, very...

[00:13:22] Hold on a second.

[00:13:24] ...and Law & Order's on NBC, and it has been for decades.

[00:13:28] Are you 90?

[00:13:30] Hey, Nate, who's the executive producer of Law & Order?

[00:13:35] Dun-dun.

[00:13:36] Brad, who's the executive producer of Law & Order?

[00:13:38] Dick Wolf.

[00:13:38] Dick Wolf!

[00:13:39] Everyone knows this.

[00:13:39] Everybody knows it's Dick Wolf.

[00:13:41] Nobody cares.

[00:13:53] He's a fan of stand-up comedy, and John Mulaney has a huge bit about Law & Order, and he says...

[00:13:58] And also, you just, like, being aware of media, you can just know, like, what the framework

[00:14:03] of Law & Order is, and, like, you just see bits and pieces in there.

[00:14:06] So, Ice-T famously does not have dreads.

[00:14:10] Like, in his rap career, he did not have dreads.

[00:14:13] Did he really not have dreads in his rap career?

[00:14:16] I don't believe that he...

[00:14:18] Never in his life has he had dreads.

[00:14:19] You know what?

[00:14:20] I'm speaking out of the turn here.

[00:14:21] I'm saying I don't believe those are real...

[00:14:23] Because I don't feel like you're an Ice-T historian.

[00:14:24] I'm not.

[00:14:25] But I also feel like if those are his real dreads, that's impressive.

[00:14:29] Because those things were big.

[00:14:31] That was, like, Sideshow Bob-level, like, hair.

[00:14:34] There's a lot going on there.

[00:14:35] And Sideshow Bob does have big dreads.

[00:14:38] I mean, he just has...

[00:14:39] It was just too much hair, I thought.

[00:14:43] But maybe that's me just being horribly racist.

[00:14:45] Maybe that's...

[00:14:45] I just don't know much about...

[00:14:46] No, it really is.

[00:14:47] ...African-American hair, and I apologize.

[00:14:48] But it just...

[00:14:49] It looked fake.

[00:14:50] So that's just me being an idiot.

[00:14:52] Are you looking it up right now?

[00:14:53] He also had it in New Jack City.

[00:14:55] Dreads.

[00:14:57] Were they that bombastic looking?

[00:14:59] I mean, they were pretty big.

[00:15:01] Okay.

[00:15:01] Well, I'm wrong.

[00:15:03] I apologize.

[00:15:05] Ice-T famously had dreads.

[00:15:06] And I just am bewildered by this film.

[00:15:09] Maybe they were both in the film.

[00:15:11] Do me a favor, and go on and talk about this movie.

[00:15:14] Anyway.

[00:15:15] So Dr. Cox, John C. McGintley, is in this movie.

[00:15:19] He plays one of the people that's going to hunt Ice-T.

[00:15:22] Gary Busey plays somebody who's going to hunt Ice-T.

[00:15:25] Rutger Hauer from Blade Runner is the main guy that sets this whole thing up,

[00:15:30] who's going to hunt Ice-T.

[00:15:32] Charles S. Dutton hunts Ice-T.

[00:15:35] Everyone's trying to get Ice-T.

[00:15:37] So here's a couple of things I wrote down.

[00:15:39] Yep.

[00:15:40] Charles S. Dutton's knees.

[00:15:42] So in a scene, Charles S. Dutton is exploded on an ATV that Ice-T rigs, right?

[00:15:51] And the scene is that Charles S. Dutton has lost both knees,

[00:15:54] or both legs right at the kneecap.

[00:15:56] And the effect that they used was they buried his legs in the ground.

[00:16:00] Of course.

[00:16:00] And they just splayed out the blood.

[00:16:02] And it's so bad because Charles S. Dutton is like, oh, and he's doing sit-ups.

[00:16:07] You can just see that he's pulling up from his legs and he's rocking.

[00:16:10] And it's just so clear that they're buried.

[00:16:12] It's some of the worst special effects I've ever seen.

[00:16:15] And I'm like, oh, my God, they buried Charles S. Dutton.

[00:16:18] It's just so fucking funny.

[00:16:20] So that was hilarious.

[00:16:23] Ice-T shotguns a large tree into a bridge.

[00:16:27] So he shoots the base of the tree so many times with a shotgun.

[00:16:31] And it's like a 100-foot tall tree that falls across a ravine.

[00:16:35] Yeah, that's pretty good.

[00:16:36] I just wrote down the insane overacting because that's crazy.

[00:16:39] The crazy obvious set pieces.

[00:16:41] Yeah, so there is in the middle of him running for his life,

[00:16:46] he sits down on a tree stump.

[00:16:48] And it's so fake that the tree stump moves when he sits down on it.

[00:16:52] Of course.

[00:16:53] And this is shot in a real forest, for real.

[00:16:55] They could have found.

[00:16:56] Now, that's the great thing, is there's a lot of trees around there.

[00:16:59] They're so silly.

[00:17:00] But none of them are cut down.

[00:17:01] I mean, but just.

[00:17:03] You need a stump to sit on.

[00:17:04] You can't make a stump without incurring some fees.

[00:17:06] If you know what kind of permit you need to cut down a tree in a forest.

[00:17:09] They did with a shotgun, dude.

[00:17:11] No, but not a real tree, though.

[00:17:13] They didn't really shoot a real tree?

[00:17:15] No.

[00:17:15] Oh, okay, well.

[00:17:16] We're fine.

[00:17:17] Jeez.

[00:17:18] I'm not a shotgun tree historian.

[00:17:20] So, in a certain point, I see breaks into.

[00:17:23] They're all staying in a cabin the night before and they drink.

[00:17:25] Yeah.

[00:17:26] And they're about to go the next day.

[00:17:27] Ice-T runs away, you know, because they're going to kill him.

[00:17:30] Then he circles back and runs back to the cabin.

[00:17:32] And they say, oh, that's never been done before, meaning they've killed a lot of these people.

[00:17:35] There's a lock on a door.

[00:17:36] He breaks it open.

[00:17:37] It's.

[00:17:38] Do you remember the show Futurama?

[00:17:39] Of course.

[00:17:39] The jars in the heads?

[00:17:40] How could I forget?

[00:17:41] That's where they got it from.

[00:17:42] Surviving the game.

[00:17:43] All of the people that they have previously killed, they cut off their heads and they put

[00:17:47] them in floating jars.

[00:17:48] Makes sense.

[00:17:48] With their names on them.

[00:17:50] And he finds a, his name in the movie is Mason.

[00:17:52] They find a jar with Mason on the placard.

[00:17:58] They're planners.

[00:17:58] It's empty.

[00:17:59] They're planners.

[00:17:59] It's a Mason jar.

[00:18:00] It's a Mason jar.

[00:18:01] Exactly.

[00:18:02] Holy shit.

[00:18:04] No, hold on.

[00:18:05] Is that really where Futurama got it?

[00:18:07] Ah, probably not.

[00:18:07] Oh, okay.

[00:18:08] But it, I mean, they look exactly like that.

[00:18:10] That would be really funny if it was.

[00:18:12] It's nuts.

[00:18:15] Oh, Bob Miner was the stunt coordinator.

[00:18:19] I wrote this down because I saw the screen, you know, the credits.

[00:18:22] Yeah.

[00:18:23] And it says, stunt choreography, Bob Miner.

[00:18:25] And it also says, security guard, Bob Miner.

[00:18:28] Good.

[00:18:28] So I'm like, Bob Miner was the coordinator and also played the security guard of the movie.

[00:18:31] And the security guard fight scene was by far the worst choreographed in the entire film.

[00:18:35] So the one that he was involved with was so bad.

[00:18:39] Ice-T beats up a security guard.

[00:18:41] And it's so laughably, hilariously bad stunt work that I remembered it.

[00:18:46] So I saw his name in the credits.

[00:18:48] I'm like, he was doing so much of the other stuff, he just forgot to choreograph his own scene.

[00:18:51] Yeah.

[00:18:52] I mean, he's a busy guy.

[00:18:53] He's got a lot going on.

[00:18:54] You got two jobs.

[00:18:55] One of them's going to suffer.

[00:18:56] This movie is insane, Nate, because Gary Busey is in it.

[00:18:59] And do you know how many times I just mentioned Gary Busey?

[00:19:01] Not once.

[00:19:02] His unhinged performance doesn't even matter.

[00:19:04] It's so fucking bonkers everywhere else.

[00:19:06] I know.

[00:19:06] This is insane.

[00:19:08] I know.

[00:19:09] This whole movie's insane.

[00:19:10] I know.

[00:19:10] I love it.

[00:19:11] I love it so much.

[00:19:14] Ashley was falling asleep reading a book, and I paused it multiple times.

[00:19:16] I was like, oh my God.

[00:19:18] And she's like, the kids are sleeping.

[00:19:20] It was amazing, dude.

[00:19:22] It is so 90s.

[00:19:23] It's so 90s.

[00:19:24] It is so over the top.

[00:19:26] It's so ridiculous.

[00:19:27] The word over in front of all the overacted, overdirected, overedited, overstunted, overexploded.

[00:19:34] And I saw this film when I was like probably 13.

[00:19:36] I'm like, this is genius.

[00:19:38] Yeah.

[00:19:38] It was incredible.

[00:19:41] So yeah, very, very happy with this selection.

[00:19:43] I saw this.

[00:19:44] I'm like, Ben's going to get this film in a way that other people won't.

[00:19:48] It was so stupid.

[00:19:48] I loved it so much.

[00:19:49] That's so fun.

[00:19:50] Yeah.

[00:19:50] Right up my alley, buddy.

[00:19:51] Thank you.

[00:19:51] Have you ever seen it, Brad?

[00:19:52] No, not at all.

[00:19:52] Oh, dude.

[00:19:53] I don't know if you would appreciate it like Ben does.

[00:19:55] I like stupid shit like that.

[00:19:56] Oh, it was so dumb.

[00:19:57] I loved it so much.

[00:19:58] It was like, you tapped into my veins, man.

[00:20:01] Like feeding you the dumb shit.

[00:20:02] I love it.

[00:20:03] Did you wish that you had like Little Caesars and like you could play Sega Genesis afterwards?

[00:20:08] Yeah, a little bit.

[00:20:09] A little 90s nostalgia.

[00:20:10] Actually, I wish that I had like a friend over and we're in sleeping bags watching it

[00:20:14] talking about what we're going to have for breakfast the next morning.

[00:20:15] That's the level I was at with.

[00:20:16] And then do you think they do that?

[00:20:19] Yeah.

[00:20:19] They don't really do that, right?

[00:20:21] No.

[00:20:21] I mean, I know they don't, but you don't think they do, do they?

[00:20:24] Do you think you could catch a human?

[00:20:26] Do you think you could escape the humans?

[00:20:28] Do you want to do it tomorrow?

[00:20:30] I wonder if it would be fun to hunt a human.

[00:20:32] Oh my God.

[00:20:34] I didn't know you were a Republican.

[00:20:35] No, no, no.

[00:20:36] I just like death.

[00:20:38] Jesus Christ.

[00:20:39] That's right.

[00:20:39] I told these guys, I'm like, this is definitely what Eric Trump does.

[00:20:44] Oh yeah.

[00:20:44] Him and the founder of Jimmy John's.

[00:20:45] They've done this.

[00:20:46] They've absolutely done this.

[00:20:47] And if you don't know about the founder of Jimmy John's, look him up.

[00:20:50] Oh wait a minute.

[00:20:50] I like sandwiches.

[00:20:51] Oh, I don't like, well he sold the company, so it's fine.

[00:20:53] Oh, okay.

[00:20:54] Good.

[00:20:54] I can still eat him.

[00:20:55] That's what he says about the homeless people.

[00:20:58] No.

[00:20:58] Don't do that.

[00:20:59] Yeah.

[00:21:00] He hunted humans.

[00:21:01] Well, to each their own.

[00:21:03] I've now slandered James Jonathan.

[00:21:06] Is that all you've seen?

[00:21:08] The other one will come to me, but I don't remember or I have thought in my head.

[00:21:11] Something with the kids?

[00:21:13] Oh yeah.

[00:21:14] We talked about Gremlins 2.

[00:21:16] Of course.

[00:21:16] Last time.

[00:21:17] Yeah.

[00:21:17] And then we watched Monster Squad.

[00:21:19] Oh, you know what?

[00:21:20] I've never seen Monster Squad.

[00:21:22] Fast forward the first 20 minutes, you don't want to hear a lot of just horrible slurs.

[00:21:26] Oh, I'm fine with that.

[00:21:27] It was really aggressive.

[00:21:28] I didn't know that.

[00:21:29] Because it's the 80s.

[00:21:31] Yeah, but the gay F word, oh boy, they said it a lot.

[00:21:34] Well yeah, they did in the 80s, you know?

[00:21:35] I mean, but they didn't in Gremlins.

[00:21:38] Well no, but that was not the same kind of movie.

[00:21:43] Okay.

[00:21:44] It's not.

[00:21:45] Yeah, my stance on that would be it would be more likely because Gremlins was aimed at

[00:21:50] more of an adult audience.

[00:21:52] Monster Squad has made four kids.

[00:21:54] Yeah, but the characters in Gremlins are not the kind of characters that would be spouting

[00:21:57] that word very often.

[00:22:00] I mean, Mr. Futterman?

[00:22:02] No.

[00:22:03] What?

[00:22:03] He thought that Gremlins were in the cars and he's talking about the foreign and-

[00:22:06] He's talking about Vietnam.

[00:22:07] Well, just saying.

[00:22:08] Anyway, Monster Squad has a lot of crazy profanity that is not really meant for today's kids' ears.

[00:22:15] And so we had to pause it and be like, you've not heard those words at school and if you

[00:22:20] have, what do you do about it?

[00:22:21] Like that kind of stuff.

[00:22:21] But once we got past that shit, it's silly.

[00:22:25] It's a Fred Decker and Shane Black wrote this movie.

[00:22:28] It's very well written.

[00:22:30] There's a lot of clever stuff that happens in it.

[00:22:32] It's fun.

[00:22:33] It's a fun movie.

[00:22:34] I have this, but I haven't watched it.

[00:22:36] I've been meaning to.

[00:22:37] So the movie is these boys realize that Frankenstein's monster, Dracula, the creature from the Black

[00:22:44] Lagoon-

[00:22:45] Wolfman.

[00:22:45] Wolfman are all real and the mummy and they're all in their hometown.

[00:22:49] It's kind of like the Gremlins where they're trying to convince everybody else that it's

[00:22:52] real and everybody else is not thinking it's real.

[00:22:55] But yeah, they have to open a portal and get them out there.

[00:22:58] But the movie opens with a line that's hilarious that Rune and Ender have been saying over and

[00:23:02] over again.

[00:23:03] It's the Gaff word.

[00:23:05] No.

[00:23:07] They open it up with kind of a crawl where it's like in 18, whatever, you know, 1400,

[00:23:15] da, da, da, da.

[00:23:16] Van Helsing had a chance to, you know, open the portal and send them all away.

[00:23:21] And then it goes, da, da, da.

[00:23:23] They blew it.

[00:23:24] And that's just how the movie opens.

[00:23:26] And so Rune and Ender thought that's the most funny thing they've ever heard.

[00:23:29] Yeah.

[00:23:30] Because you won't see that coming at all.

[00:23:31] Yeah.

[00:23:32] And so from then on, we went to, we were like pausing to go to bed and then they're

[00:23:35] like, Rune's like, they blew it.

[00:23:37] And he's like, that was, it was 45 minutes later.

[00:23:39] Because we cut these things in half because it's late at night.

[00:23:41] But after 45 minutes, I'm like, what did you think so far?

[00:23:43] They blew it.

[00:23:44] That's awesome.

[00:23:45] Yeah.

[00:23:45] Good stuff.

[00:23:46] Yeah.

[00:23:46] I need to watch it.

[00:23:47] But there's actually a documentary about Monster Squad 2 called Wolfman's Got Nards.

[00:23:52] Okay.

[00:23:53] And I haven't watched Monster Squad, so I haven't watched the documentary.

[00:23:56] But like, I imagine when I watch Monster Squad, I'll probably like appreciate it for what

[00:24:00] it is.

[00:24:01] But since I didn't grow up with it, I probably.

[00:24:02] It's not.

[00:24:03] So for me, I didn't necessarily grow up with the Goonies, but I like the Goonies like

[00:24:06] way more than you do.

[00:24:07] Yeah.

[00:24:08] You're not going to love this film.

[00:24:09] Right.

[00:24:09] It's not that kind of movie.

[00:24:10] You watch it for what it is.

[00:24:12] No, no.

[00:24:12] If Brad doesn't like the Goonies, I don't know why.

[00:24:14] I like the Goonies.

[00:24:15] I just don't love it like people who grew up with it, because I didn't watch it until

[00:24:18] I was in college.

[00:24:18] Yeah, but you love Star Wars.

[00:24:19] You didn't grow up with that either.

[00:24:20] Yeah, I did.

[00:24:21] You didn't watch it in 1977 when it came out?

[00:24:23] I wasn't born in 1977.

[00:24:24] Exactly.

[00:24:24] I still grew up with it.

[00:24:26] How did you grow up with it?

[00:24:26] You didn't see it in theaters.

[00:24:27] I watched it when I was a child, and I did see it in theaters when I was 11 years old.

[00:24:32] It wasn't in theaters.

[00:24:33] Yes, it was.

[00:24:33] In 1997 was when they released the special edition in theaters.

[00:24:36] Right before the new-

[00:24:37] No, you saw the ruined ones, and they ruined your life.

[00:24:39] Okay.

[00:24:39] I mean, before that, I had seen the originals on VHS over and over again.

[00:24:43] He's lying to Nate.

[00:24:44] Nate, what's the last movie you saw, buddy?

[00:24:46] I don't watch movies anymore.

[00:24:47] Brad, what's the last movie you saw, buddy?

[00:24:48] Oh, no.

[00:24:49] Nate watched a bunch of TV.

[00:24:50] I don't care.

[00:24:51] Brad, what's the last movie you saw?

[00:24:52] Nate, I want to hear about what you watched.

[00:24:54] Okay.

[00:24:54] I have seen some films.

[00:24:57] So let me start off with a film I watched, an animated film from 2014 called The Wild Robot.

[00:25:06] That's from this year.

[00:25:08] The Wild Robot is from 2024.

[00:25:10] Sorry, 2024.

[00:25:10] Sorry.

[00:25:12] We're three podcasts in right now.

[00:25:14] I'm getting tired.

[00:25:15] All right.

[00:25:17] 2024, I watched The Wild Robot by myself.

[00:25:21] Oh, no, Nate.

[00:25:23] This is like the perfect movie to watch with your kids.

[00:25:25] I know.

[00:25:26] I know.

[00:25:26] But I was looking for a film.

[00:25:28] I saw the trailer to this.

[00:25:29] We talked about the trailer for this.

[00:25:32] And I'm like, I really want to watch this film.

[00:25:34] This looks great.

[00:25:35] I can't wait to see this film, but I can't wait to see it with the boys.

[00:25:37] All right.

[00:25:39] And you'll do better because you don't cry like I do most nights.

[00:25:44] I knew this movie would make you cry.

[00:25:46] Have you seen it, Brad?

[00:25:47] No, I haven't seen it, but I just know it's one of those movies.

[00:25:49] It is a movie that will make you cry.

[00:25:51] And it is so beautifully animated.

[00:25:55] So beautifully voice acted.

[00:25:57] It is just fantastic.

[00:26:00] It is wonderful.

[00:26:02] I loved this film.

[00:26:03] I told my kids, I'm like, we're going to watch this film together.

[00:26:06] And they're like, you okay, Dad?

[00:26:09] I'm like, no.

[00:26:10] Just the way you said it, though, we're going to watch this film together.

[00:26:13] It is so good.

[00:26:14] Speaking of Lupita Nyong'o, she voices Roz, the main part of this.

[00:26:21] Now, I remember reading this book to my daughter when she was little.

[00:26:25] So I knew something about the wild robot.

[00:26:29] But this essentially tells a story of it's almost like parents, right?

[00:26:36] There's a little bit of parents sending kids away, making peace with kids not wanting to be with them anymore.

[00:26:44] And adopted families and real families.

[00:26:48] And it's just beautiful.

[00:26:50] It is just so.

[00:26:51] What I love most about it was the animation style.

[00:26:54] I love that they are, you know, into the Spider-Verse, TMNT, that they are exploring and utilizing different animation styles in modern films.

[00:27:09] Yeah.

[00:27:10] That I think is just beautiful.

[00:27:11] This one has, it's 3D computer animated, but it has like a storybook brush stylization to it.

[00:27:17] Yeah.

[00:27:18] Correct.

[00:27:19] And so it has a very specific animation style when you watch it.

[00:27:23] And just wonderful.

[00:27:25] I just loved it.

[00:27:26] Yeah.

[00:27:26] I need to go to theaters and see this soon.

[00:27:28] Yeah.

[00:27:28] You should.

[00:27:29] Then another film I saw is another 2024 film with-

[00:27:36] 2014 for the listener.

[00:27:37] Yeah.

[00:27:38] Yeah.

[00:27:39] With Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage, Glenn Close, Marissa Tomei, and the incomparable Brendan

[00:27:45] Frazier.

[00:27:46] Have you seen this film?

[00:27:47] No, I've heard of it.

[00:27:48] It's called Brothers.

[00:27:49] Yeah.

[00:27:49] And it just-

[00:27:50] Is this streaming?

[00:27:51] It's on Amazon Prime.

[00:27:52] Amazon Prime.

[00:27:52] Oh, nice.

[00:27:53] And-

[00:27:54] We watched the trailer for this, didn't we?

[00:27:56] No.

[00:27:56] We didn't?

[00:27:57] No, I wanted to, but I don't think-

[00:27:59] Brad wouldn't let you.

[00:28:00] Yeah.

[00:28:00] Gotcha.

[00:28:01] And so it's directed by Max Barbaco with a screenplay by Bacon Blair.

[00:28:09] Or Macon Blair.

[00:28:11] With a screenplay by Bacon?

[00:28:13] I'm pretty sure he's like, well, it's directed by Matt Barbecue.

[00:28:16] Yeah.

[00:28:17] And Bacon Blair's in there as well.

[00:28:19] Are you hungry, buddy?

[00:28:20] Are you hungry right now?

[00:28:22] Marty Milkshake.

[00:28:24] And Brian Chicken Nuggets is in there as well.

[00:28:26] I'm hungry.

[00:28:27] Can I get some more of those?

[00:28:29] Can I get one of those gushers?

[00:28:31] No, I brought three pouches, so-

[00:28:33] You son of a gun.

[00:28:34] I'll have some more when I'm getting home, though.

[00:28:36] Oh!

[00:28:37] This tells the story of two brothers and a mother who grow up in poverty, and they grow

[00:28:43] up learning how to steal things, and they become adults who steal things, and these kind

[00:28:47] of things.

[00:28:48] This has like a, almost a, this film doesn't know what it wants to be.

[00:28:54] And it has the potential to be almost like a Coen Brothers film.

[00:28:58] Is it a dark comedy?

[00:29:00] It should be a dark comedy.

[00:29:02] Okay.

[00:29:03] But it wants to be an action comedy as well.

[00:29:06] Interesting.

[00:29:07] Okay.

[00:29:07] And so, it's mixing genres in a way that doesn't help.

[00:29:12] Gotcha.

[00:29:12] For instance, one of the subplots of this, Marissa Tomei owns this monkey.

[00:29:24] So, I'm not sure what's funny, or the fact that the words, or the way that Nate says them,

[00:29:28] you know?

[00:29:28] One of the subplots.

[00:29:30] Marissa Tomei owns a monkey.

[00:29:35] Yeah.

[00:29:42] Marissa Tomei owns a monkey.

[00:30:00] It's a newsstand on fire, and a monkey's going like, come here!

[00:30:03] God!

[00:30:04] The subplot in this film, it really just does not add.

[00:30:07] Holy shit.

[00:30:08] The masturbating monkey does not add to the film.

[00:30:12] And honestly, most times the masturbating monkey adds to the, do you remember Any Which Way

[00:30:16] But Loose?

[00:30:17] That dude was just always hammered on Clint Eastwood in the car.

[00:30:20] I guess this explains why I haven't heard much about this movie.

[00:30:24] Let me give you the-

[00:30:25] No, those scenes in Dunstan Checks In were graphic, but they were well placed.

[00:30:30] Let me give you a couple good things about this film that I did like.

[00:30:33] I like Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage's, they're brothers, and I like their play off

[00:30:38] of each other's-

[00:30:39] One more.

[00:30:39] So, it was a herpes outbreak that the monkey-

[00:30:43] Is it a monkey?

[00:30:44] Oh, you haven't seen Outbreak.

[00:30:45] It's about a monkey that causes disease.

[00:30:47] But it's a jack-off monkey in my head.

[00:30:49] Instead of King Kong, it's Ding Dong.

[00:30:51] Okay, we're good.

[00:30:52] And we're back to Nate.

[00:30:55] The other thing I liked about this film was, and almost worth seeing the film just for

[00:31:00] this, Brendan Fraser's great.

[00:31:02] Of course.

[00:31:03] He is-

[00:31:04] Good for him on his comeback.

[00:31:05] Really good in this film.

[00:31:07] He plays-

[00:31:07] Does he drop the weight?

[00:31:08] No.

[00:31:08] He's actually very chunky in this.

[00:31:12] But he-

[00:31:12] Let him be, Ben.

[00:31:14] Jeez.

[00:31:14] It's hard for a guy to be 500 pounds and do something else other than the whale.

[00:31:18] So, I thought maybe-

[00:31:18] No.

[00:31:19] So, he plays this security guard police officer character-

[00:31:22] Fuck you, Brad.

[00:31:23] These are the jokes.

[00:31:24] Idiot.

[00:31:24] He plays this police officer security guard character who believes-

[00:31:29] Would the Gary Sneeze get his legs back?

[00:31:31] That was Charles S. Dutton.

[00:31:32] Oh, fuck you.

[00:31:33] You know what?

[00:31:33] I was having fun.

[00:31:34] Force bump.

[00:31:36] Nate.

[00:31:36] I was having fun.

[00:31:38] And now he's over here.

[00:31:39] No, it's how he gets them.

[00:31:41] He doesn't understand how movies work.

[00:31:44] Well, evidently, Brendan Fraser is playing a whale that jacks guys off in this movie.

[00:31:49] Essentially, yes.

[00:31:52] He does get jacked off.

[00:31:54] Holy shit.

[00:31:55] I want to see this movie.

[00:31:56] Oh, my God.

[00:31:57] But that's what I'm saying is, yeah, based on what I'm telling you, you would think this

[00:32:00] film is a different film than it is.

[00:32:02] Yeah.

[00:32:02] Sounds like a real screwball affair.

[00:32:04] Yeah, more like Spunky Man.

[00:32:06] That's what I'm saying is, it doesn't know, it should be a dark black comedy that is about

[00:32:12] brothers learning how to deal with each other after a hard upbringing.

[00:32:16] But instead you got Marissa Tomei's monkey just jerking their gherkins.

[00:32:20] Yeah, it's the oddest thing.

[00:32:21] And then there's other things that are just like, you went like Adam Sandler level here.

[00:32:26] Like in a weird-

[00:32:27] So this started off as a review of being like, this movie didn't know what it was to be

[00:32:31] and now you're like, this is a full-blown terrible movie.

[00:32:35] No, no, no.

[00:32:36] So did you hate this film?

[00:32:37] I met Adam Sandler in a silly way.

[00:32:38] Like you're being silly.

[00:32:39] Did you like this or not?

[00:32:42] No.

[00:32:43] As far as Brendan Fraser movies with monkey characters in them, is this better than Monkey Bone?

[00:32:53] Yes.

[00:32:53] There's also a monkey in The Mummy.

[00:32:56] Is there?

[00:32:56] And in Tarzan.

[00:32:59] He's not in Tarzan, he's in George the Jungle.

[00:33:01] Which definitely has monkeys.

[00:33:02] It has an ape.

[00:33:04] Well, now we're just splitting hairs.

[00:33:05] I was going to say.

[00:33:07] And then I also saw two episodes of a new show of season two called Shrinking.

[00:33:14] Well, it's not a new show.

[00:33:15] It's a continuing show with a new season.

[00:33:16] Is there a jack-off monkey in this one?

[00:33:18] No.

[00:33:19] Well, lost opportunity there.

[00:33:20] But it is very, very good.

[00:33:21] Of course it is.

[00:33:22] We've talked about Shrinking on this show.

[00:33:23] Yeah.

[00:33:23] And we did it because the guys was Harrison Ford as an actor that only does-

[00:33:28] Do you not like Harrison Ford?

[00:33:29] I don't really like him as a person that is bad to his fans, but he's a good actor.

[00:33:33] He's not bad to his fans.

[00:33:35] Is this what he gets bad for?

[00:33:36] He's too good for us.

[00:33:37] He's too good for us.

[00:33:37] I get it.

[00:33:38] No, that's not true.

[00:33:39] That's true.

[00:33:39] Get over it.

[00:33:40] I was Han Solo.

[00:33:41] Fuck off.

[00:33:41] Well, it isn't like stupid questions.

[00:33:43] Yeah.

[00:33:43] I mean, just, you know, hey, we made you what you are, but you can be condescending to us

[00:33:46] all you want.

[00:33:47] As long as you're a good actor, nobody cares.

[00:33:48] No, he's hilarious.

[00:33:49] I'm always happy when he's grumpy in an interview.

[00:33:52] And then I'm going to use my Ace Hardware skip a movie ticket for this next film.

[00:33:59] That's the sponsor?

[00:34:00] As I didn't have a chance to watch Underwater.

[00:34:04] Listen, I appreciate you-

[00:34:05] You're Ace Hardware?

[00:34:06] Hold on.

[00:34:07] Hold on.

[00:34:07] I say, hold on.

[00:34:08] What the fuck is this?

[00:34:09] Remember, Ace is the place with the help for hardware, man.

[00:34:12] Listen, I-

[00:34:13] Nate came up with a sponsor.

[00:34:15] I love this, by the way.

[00:34:16] Hold on.

[00:34:16] Hold on.

[00:34:16] Nate, first of all, this is very cute.

[00:34:20] This is a really fun bit you're doing, but fuck you.

[00:34:23] That's so good, Nate.

[00:34:25] Because this movie was given to you tailor-made for spooky season.

[00:34:28] Hold on, Nate.

[00:34:29] I have to ask.

[00:34:30] So was that off the cuff just now, or did you like-

[00:34:32] I just wrote it right now.

[00:34:33] I've got to say something when we record tonight.

[00:34:36] I didn't see this.

[00:34:42] Ben ever has.

[00:34:43] Yeah, that's-

[00:34:44] I wish-

[00:34:44] At least you brought something fun to the table.

[00:34:47] I wish I would have come up with that, man.

[00:34:48] Rather than, I'm a piece of shit.

[00:34:49] I'd like to use my true value hardware Ace-

[00:34:52] No, Ace Hardware.

[00:34:53] Ace Hardware.

[00:34:54] Skip a movie.

[00:34:55] Skip a movie.

[00:34:56] Ticket.

[00:34:57] Nate, here's the problem.

[00:34:58] But I used my ticket, Brad.

[00:34:59] No, no.

[00:35:00] He did use his ticket.

[00:35:00] This is a spooky season movie.

[00:35:03] No, I started watching this film.

[00:35:05] Did you really?

[00:35:06] And I didn't like it.

[00:35:07] Oh.

[00:35:08] No, no, but he didn't like it for a very specific reason.

[00:35:10] Because he doesn't like Kristen Stewart?

[00:35:11] No, because it's a scary movie and it takes place underwater.

[00:35:15] Because it's called Underwater.

[00:35:17] It's underwater.

[00:35:18] I was trying to push Nate a little bit.

[00:35:20] Now I know it's scarier than space.

[00:35:23] Wait, have you seen The Abyss?

[00:35:25] Yes, I have.

[00:35:26] Back in the 90s.

[00:35:27] Literally scarred me, that film.

[00:35:29] Literally?

[00:35:30] Literally.

[00:35:30] Where's the scar?

[00:35:31] Where's the scar?

[00:35:31] On my heart.

[00:35:33] The doctor said, wait, did you just watch The Abyss?

[00:35:38] We've been getting a lot of this.

[00:35:39] You've been crying a lot lately.

[00:35:40] A lot of scar tissue in your heart.

[00:35:41] Are you really not going to finish this movie?

[00:35:43] I will watch it, but man, I just didn't.

[00:35:45] It was scary.

[00:35:46] Yeah, of course.

[00:35:47] You turned it off because it was legitimately scary?

[00:35:49] I gave it to you.

[00:35:50] It's spooky season.

[00:35:51] I just didn't feel like I was in the mood.

[00:35:52] I didn't feel like I was in the mood for this.

[00:35:54] You want to watch it with me?

[00:35:55] Because I don't like jump scares.

[00:35:56] Have you seen Underwater?

[00:35:57] Yeah, but I'll watch it with them.

[00:35:58] But you guys like jump scares.

[00:35:59] I don't like jump scares.

[00:36:00] Well, it's not all jump scares.

[00:36:02] No, that's all the film is.

[00:36:03] No, no, no.

[00:36:04] It's underwater, so it's very slow-mo.

[00:36:05] Yeah.

[00:36:06] It's really hard to jump in the water.

[00:36:07] And it's also terrifying of the unknown of the water, which I know you love.

[00:36:10] But why not just let me use my Ace Harbor and skip a film?

[00:36:15] Well, first of all, it's something you made up.

[00:36:18] And second of all, that's not how this podcast works.

[00:36:20] If it was, Ben would have come up with the fucking Jack Daniels chug-a-lug, skip a movie.

[00:36:25] Come on, man.

[00:36:26] Or the fucking-

[00:36:27] He's very pointed.

[00:36:28] He never did, though.

[00:36:29] Elmer's glue, white power, you know.

[00:36:31] Come on, man.

[00:36:32] I'm not watching this this week.

[00:36:34] Come on, man.

[00:36:36] I don't even think that episode's available anymore, so nobody's going to get the context.

[00:36:39] The hardcore fans will understand.

[00:36:41] I made a stupid joke about the power of glue and the episode being white power.

[00:36:45] You know what?

[00:36:45] It's not my fault that white glue is powerful.

[00:36:48] I just feel like I just ate it again.

[00:36:51] Okay.

[00:36:51] I will finish this film this week.

[00:36:53] That's fine.

[00:36:53] We'll talk about it in November, I guess, when spooky season is over.

[00:36:56] I just don't like spooky movies.

[00:36:57] I know, but it's Halloween and you only had this short time to watch it.

[00:37:03] Brad, what'd you watch?

[00:37:05] Did you use an Ace Hardware ticket, skip a movie ticket?

[00:37:09] I did not.

[00:37:10] You didn't use your Ace Hardware skip a ticket?

[00:37:14] Why did you pick Ace Hardware of all things?

[00:37:18] Because Ace is the place with the helpful hardware, man.

[00:37:21] I feel like that's what a hardware-

[00:37:22] It's not really an answer.

[00:37:23] I don't care.

[00:37:24] I love it.

[00:37:24] I love it so much.

[00:37:25] I'm not upset about it.

[00:37:26] I mean, I am.

[00:37:27] I am and I'm not.

[00:37:28] The Ace Hardware skip a movie ticket?

[00:37:30] Is that what you just called it?

[00:37:31] All right.

[00:37:32] I'm going to Ace tomorrow.

[00:37:33] I'm going to be like, I have an idea.

[00:37:35] They're sold out.

[00:37:38] Not like you.

[00:37:40] So I'm still watching some scary movies because it is the spooky season.

[00:37:44] Of course.

[00:37:44] And so I had a-

[00:37:46] Originally, I was going to go through and just watch all the Friday the 13th movies.

[00:37:49] I remember.

[00:37:49] And I was about halfway through.

[00:37:52] And then you just realized this is pointless?

[00:37:53] No.

[00:37:54] I-

[00:37:54] I-

[00:37:55] When I was on Aaron's podcast, actually, a slash film writer named Bill Bria was on.

[00:38:00] And he's a big, big horror fan.

[00:38:01] He's a big comedy guy, too.

[00:38:02] Loves SNL and all this stuff.

[00:38:03] He's a good dude.

[00:38:03] And he made me aware of a fun thing to do because after you watch the first four Friday the 13th movies-

[00:38:12] You imagine what it would be like if a monkey was in there jacking people off.

[00:38:16] You can start alternating between Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street because they basically released a movie every other year.

[00:38:24] And you can work your way up to Freddy vs. Jason.

[00:38:28] Nice.

[00:38:28] Because I've never seen Freddy vs. Jason.

[00:38:30] Oh, you're in for it.

[00:38:32] Yeah.

[00:38:32] So now I'm alternating.

[00:38:34] So after we made it through the first four Friday the 13th, I watched A Nightmare on Elm Street 2, Freddy's Revenge, which was fun.

[00:38:42] Freddy Krueger, he's enjoyable.

[00:38:46] It's a very gay movie, too, by the way.

[00:38:48] I don't know if you remember this.

[00:38:49] You can't say that.

[00:38:50] I don't think we're going to say that.

[00:38:52] You can't say that.

[00:38:52] No, no.

[00:38:53] It is, though.

[00:38:54] You can't say that, Brian.

[00:38:56] Yeah, you can.

[00:38:57] It's a fucking gay movie.

[00:38:59] There is so much queer subtext in this movie that it's almost not even subtext.

[00:39:07] It's not even subtext.

[00:39:09] Yeah.

[00:39:10] There's one of the kills in the movie is where this overbearing gym teacher who-

[00:39:18] Just railing a dude?

[00:39:19] No.

[00:39:19] Oh, sorry.

[00:39:20] The main kid sees him in a gay nightclub.

[00:39:22] Sure.

[00:39:22] And then they end up going back to the school, and the way the coach ends up getting killed-

[00:39:28] I don't know why I hear this.

[00:39:29] He gets chained up in the shower and gets his ass whipped with a towel.

[00:39:32] Okay.

[00:39:33] Yeah.

[00:39:34] I had no idea.

[00:39:35] All right.

[00:39:36] But yeah, this is a very famously queer subtext kind of movie, but it's also a fun horror movie

[00:39:42] because Freddy is, you know, Freddy Krueger.

[00:39:44] Which kind of makes sense of the- what is it?

[00:39:46] Friday the 13th, like part eight, where Freddy goes to Broadway.

[00:39:50] Well, I mean, you just completely crossed so many streams.

[00:39:54] That's so great.

[00:39:55] It's Jason Takes Manhattan.

[00:39:57] But the fact that he turned into Freddy Goes Broadway-

[00:40:00] Freddy Goes Broadway is absolutely what happens in the eighth.

[00:40:03] And the crazy part is, you're not wrong.

[00:40:06] Friday the 13th, part eight is Jason Takes Manhattan.

[00:40:09] Yeah, that's true.

[00:40:10] Good for you, buddy.

[00:40:11] You know what?

[00:40:11] Nate, whatever you do tonight, I'm a fan of.

[00:40:13] All right.

[00:40:15] So I- and then I continued on.

[00:40:17] I went back to Friday the 13th, and I watched Friday the 13th, part six, Jason Lives.

[00:40:22] And I am pleased to report, this is where Friday the 13th gets fucking good.

[00:40:27] Goes bonkers and shit.

[00:40:28] Yep.

[00:40:28] Because they bring Jason back by bringing him back to life with a bolt of lightning.

[00:40:35] And now he's more powerful than ever.

[00:40:38] Yep.

[00:40:38] So he's like a superhero?

[00:40:39] Well, he's a superhero.

[00:40:41] Yeah, he's strong.

[00:40:42] He's a villain.

[00:40:42] He basically can't be killed now.

[00:40:44] He's impervious to everything.

[00:40:46] Yeah.

[00:40:46] And so this is where Jason starts to get fun.

[00:40:49] And I feel like this movie, too, was also kind of aware of leaning into some of the comedy

[00:40:53] a little bit.

[00:40:55] It knew what it was doing.

[00:40:56] Yeah, because there's some stuff in here that it's borderline parody, but without winking

[00:41:00] too much.

[00:41:01] Right.

[00:41:02] And I think that that speaks, honestly, to an era where they didn't even kind of even know

[00:41:05] how to wink.

[00:41:06] When the filmmakers that were making that movie aren't going to turn to camera and forth

[00:41:11] wall it.

[00:41:11] Yeah.

[00:41:12] Just because they're like, oh, well, we can't.

[00:41:14] That's not what this is.

[00:41:15] But they probably thought, wouldn't it be great if we could?

[00:41:17] Yeah.

[00:41:17] But this movie is so much fun.

[00:41:20] And now that this is where Jason is established, I'm excited to see what happens next.

[00:41:24] I'm telling you, dude, I don't want to put too much pressure on it.

[00:41:27] But number eight, chef's kiss.

[00:41:29] I'm excited.

[00:41:30] I'm excited.

[00:41:30] So yeah, I'm going to keep making my way through those.

[00:41:32] I don't know if I told you, but he takes Manhattan.

[00:41:34] He takes the whole thing.

[00:41:35] Where does he go?

[00:41:36] He takes it across the river to New Jersey.

[00:41:39] So I also went to the theater to see Smile 2.

[00:41:44] Yeah, I was just telling somebody, my buddy Brad says Smile 2 is actually better than the

[00:41:49] first.

[00:41:49] It's two hours long as a horror film.

[00:41:52] Believe me, I thought the same thing.

[00:41:54] And you occasionally feel the runtime, but it's paced pretty well.

[00:41:58] A little smiled out.

[00:41:59] It's paced pretty well, but this movie is so much more ambitious and engaging than the

[00:42:05] first movie.

[00:42:06] I never saw the first one.

[00:42:06] The first one's fun.

[00:42:07] It's a perfectly serviceable horror movie, but it's also very basic.

[00:42:11] Better first film than Happy Death Day or Smile?

[00:42:16] They're two very different movies.

[00:42:18] Is Smile not supposed to be tongue-in-cheek and fun at all?

[00:42:20] No.

[00:42:20] Happy Death or Smile is very much a straightforward horror movie.

[00:42:25] But Smile 2, man.

[00:42:27] So more like Frown?

[00:42:28] Fucking idiot over here.

[00:42:30] What?

[00:42:30] I mean, people frown.

[00:42:31] They're scared.

[00:42:32] This movie is bigger.

[00:42:34] It's more ambitious.

[00:42:35] The way the story is framed, it creates a new way to make the curse at the center of Smile

[00:42:45] more interesting, especially thematically.

[00:42:47] Because this one focuses on an entirely new set of characters.

[00:42:51] The main character is played by Naomi Scott.

[00:42:53] I can't have a curse in her.

[00:42:55] Oh, she's fantastic in this too.

[00:42:56] So she's playing a pop star named Sky Riley.

[00:42:59] And she's kind of coming back from having a rough period in her life where-

[00:43:03] Fun fact, same pop star in Trapped.

[00:43:05] That's not true.

[00:43:07] She got in, and actually the music in this movie is way better than the music in Trapped.

[00:43:10] I actually saw Trapped as well.

[00:43:12] It's called Trap.

[00:43:13] Sorry, I saw Trapped as well.

[00:43:14] Trapped is like a late 90s, early 2000 band.

[00:43:18] That's true.

[00:43:19] Yes, good call, Nate.

[00:43:20] Trapped.

[00:43:20] Trapped with a T at the end.

[00:43:22] Not spelled properly.

[00:43:22] And also not iced tea.

[00:43:24] I don't know what this podcast is anymore.

[00:43:28] But no, so she plays a pop star who is coming off-

[00:43:31] She's got a career comeback after she was in a car accident and her boyfriend at the time,

[00:43:36] a famous actor, died.

[00:43:38] And so she's kind of on a recovery and coming back.

[00:43:41] But she ends up catching this smile curse.

[00:43:45] And it plays out from there.

[00:43:47] And the way they use the pop star framework and makes the curse the center of the movie

[00:43:54] and applies it to what that career is and what her lifestyle is and how it uses her situation

[00:44:01] and her mind against her.

[00:44:03] It's just done in a very clever way.

[00:44:06] Naomi Scott is great in it.

[00:44:08] The music is great in it.

[00:44:09] Not just the pop music that they make for this fictional character, but the soundtrack itself

[00:44:15] is particularly unsettling.

[00:44:17] It's just a very good score.

[00:44:19] But I was not expecting to like this movie.

[00:44:21] Every time I saw this trailer in theaters, I was like, fucking hell, I'm so sick of this.

[00:44:26] But I really dug this movie.

[00:44:28] It's a lot of fun.

[00:44:30] If you like horror movies, like I said, I think it's way better than the first movie.

[00:44:34] It's the kind of situation where the first movie walked so that this one could run.

[00:44:38] It's the first time in a long time where I think I've seen a sequel.

[00:44:40] I'm like, oh yeah, this is 100% better.

[00:44:42] The first movie smirked so that this one could smile?

[00:44:44] You're just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm so sick.

[00:44:47] Pretty good though, Nate.

[00:44:48] I liked it.

[00:44:49] The thing that bothers me, I think, is that you shove these duds out there and then you

[00:44:53] come up with something good like this.

[00:44:56] And like, it's hard to enjoy the laugh that I want to give you.

[00:45:00] Like you miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

[00:45:02] No, I know.

[00:45:02] But like, it doesn't mean you take 100% shots.

[00:45:07] Some things you just keep inside.

[00:45:09] But how am I supposed to know which ones are the good ones?

[00:45:11] Well, you know, that's where you use your mind.

[00:45:13] Workshop them in your head, buddy.

[00:45:15] What?

[00:45:16] Where the fuck did you turn on me?

[00:45:18] It just came out of fucking left field like, workshop in your head, buddy.

[00:45:22] I've been with Brad the whole fucking time.

[00:45:25] I don't even like you as a person.

[00:45:27] The fuck just happened?

[00:45:29] He let me use my Ace Hardware skipper.

[00:45:32] But he didn't.

[00:45:33] Yeah, he is.

[00:45:34] But I appreciate it.

[00:45:35] No, he didn't.

[00:45:36] He still told you you have to.

[00:45:38] You agreed to go back and watch it.

[00:45:40] That's why he dropped it.

[00:45:41] He's just saying that.

[00:45:42] If you come back to this podcast next time and you haven't watched it underwater, we're

[00:45:46] going to tangle, buddy.

[00:45:49] But no, Smile 2 is great.

[00:45:49] If you like the first movie, I think you will love this one.

[00:45:53] I think he's my Menards second week in a row rebate not watching the movie.

[00:45:59] Really quickly, I want to mention a movie that I saw that is similar to Smile, except

[00:46:04] that it sucks.

[00:46:06] And that's Joker Foliadu.

[00:46:08] And I couldn't remember if I talked about this on the last podcast.

[00:46:11] And I tried to tell you that you did, so we didn't have to do this.

[00:46:13] I don't think I did because-

[00:46:15] That's okay.

[00:46:16] That's okay.

[00:46:16] And honestly, it's because it's so bad that I just don't want to think about it anymore.

[00:46:20] I think it's Foliadu.

[00:46:23] Foliadus.

[00:46:23] Foliadus.

[00:46:24] Foliadu.

[00:46:25] This movie is fucking terrible.

[00:46:27] And I don't say this lightly.

[00:46:29] And you've probably heard that it's bad already from a bunch of other people because-

[00:46:32] If it was so bad, why would it be 138 minutes?

[00:46:36] What?

[00:46:38] If they thought it was bad, Brad, why are they telling people, watch 138 minutes of

[00:46:44] this?

[00:46:44] They wouldn't do that, is what I'm saying.

[00:46:46] This movie is worse than I thought it was going to be.

[00:46:50] And that's saying something.

[00:46:51] You were not-

[00:46:51] You were not excited at all.

[00:46:53] Excited to see this.

[00:46:53] No.

[00:46:53] And the thing is, is for the first, I don't know, half hour, 40 minutes, I was like, okay,

[00:47:00] maybe there's something here.

[00:47:02] It was setting up an interesting premise.

[00:47:06] And I was fine with the performance because Joaquin Phoenix is great.

[00:47:10] Lady Gaga was engaging.

[00:47:12] I was curious as to where it was going.

[00:47:15] And then it went absolutely fucking nowhere.

[00:47:19] There's no meaning in this movie whatsoever.

[00:47:22] And any meaning you think there might be is ruined by the fact that it's even more muddled

[00:47:28] than the first movie's message.

[00:47:30] The first movie felt like it was trying to say something.

[00:47:32] This movie feels like it undoes anything that might have been in that first movie.

[00:47:37] And the fact that they made this as a musical and Todd Phillips seemingly doesn't know how

[00:47:45] to shoot a fucking musical.

[00:47:46] The musical numbers in this movie are so fucking boring visually, musically.

[00:47:52] There's nothing exciting happening in this movie.

[00:47:55] And it's just this huge fucking downer.

[00:47:58] So, obviously, you see the grittiness in the trailer.

[00:48:02] Yeah.

[00:48:02] Right?

[00:48:02] And it reminded me of the Snyderverse.

[00:48:05] Everything's just dark for no reason.

[00:48:06] And there's nothing really to write home about as far as set changes or lighting changes.

[00:48:11] It's all just very noir for no reason.

[00:48:15] And it's more than that because at least-

[00:48:18] It's worse than that.

[00:48:19] Because at least Zack Snyder has a vision, as flawed as it is.

[00:48:23] Like this, I just don't know what Todd Phillips thought he was doing.

[00:48:27] It takes away any of the more intriguing aspects about Joker as a character.

[00:48:36] Especially by the end of the movie.

[00:48:38] It's just a big, dark, unnecessary mess.

[00:48:44] A phenomenal waste of talent.

[00:48:47] Because you have Lady Gaga.

[00:48:50] And because of the character she is, she chose not to necessarily sing to her full potential.

[00:48:55] But it's just like, if you're going for full bore fantasy musical sequences-

[00:48:59] Then have her do that.

[00:49:00] Why wouldn't you do that?

[00:49:01] You know?

[00:49:02] But like, yeah.

[00:49:04] It's just awful.

[00:49:06] Genuinely a bad movie.

[00:49:07] I won't watch this or the first Joker ever again.

[00:49:10] I have no desire whatsoever to ever see these movies ever again.

[00:49:15] Do you think a masturbating monkey would have helped?

[00:49:18] Honestly, yeah.

[00:49:20] Okay.

[00:49:21] Alright, well there's a start.

[00:49:22] That's where the signals got mixed.

[00:49:24] For Joker, the Joker trilogy needs to end.

[00:49:28] I would have loved to have seen a jerk off monkey in this movie.

[00:49:31] In the third one, it's going to be that cartoon grape ape.

[00:49:34] And he's going to just grab people's dicks.

[00:49:36] Grape ape.

[00:49:37] Grape ape.

[00:49:38] Grape ape.

[00:49:39] Yep.

[00:49:40] So yeah, I'm sure you haven't and you won't.

[00:49:42] Don't go see Joker too.

[00:49:44] It's just a complete waste of fucking time.

[00:49:45] I'm sure you haven't and you won't.

[00:49:46] What do you think of the people saying because the first film gave so much fodder to the right wing incel culture that this was them killing that because they felt they created a monster.

[00:50:02] No, I wish the movie was smart enough to have done something like that.

[00:50:07] But it doesn't actually feel like that.

[00:50:09] That's an interesting read on it but the movie doesn't have anything of any consequence in its narrative, in the way the story is told, the way it ends or anything that indicates such a purposeful idea as that.

[00:50:25] But it feels hollow and meaningless.

[00:50:29] I don't understand.

[00:50:31] If you came away with that, good for you, I guess.

[00:50:33] But it's not there.

[00:50:35] Also, do you have any more of those gushers?

[00:50:38] I told you no.

[00:50:39] At home, he said.

[00:50:40] Well, yeah, that's true at home.

[00:50:41] I don't have any here.

[00:50:41] I can still, there's a little bit of avertase.

[00:50:43] I just hit you two.

[00:50:45] Man, it's on the tongue a little bit.

[00:50:46] You had some of the goop stuck in your teeth?

[00:50:48] Yeah, I'm not brushing my teeth tonight.

[00:50:50] No, never again.

[00:50:51] Never again?

[00:50:52] Wow.

[00:50:53] I'm not even going to start.

[00:50:54] So, yeah, those are all the movies that I saw.

[00:50:57] All right.

[00:50:58] We had a good time with those movies, right?

[00:51:00] Yeah.

[00:51:00] It's so fun.

[00:51:02] Should we talk about some trailers real quick?

[00:51:03] Yeah, go for it.

[00:51:04] We need...

[00:51:05] You're right.

[00:51:06] You know, Nate, I'm glad you brought this up.

[00:51:08] This is a time when we call for a trailer song.

[00:51:12] And I think, to be honest, to be fair, legitimately, I have done it like 20 times in a row now.

[00:51:22] We do...

[00:51:23] Two varying levels of bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, good.

[00:51:26] You do this song.

[00:51:27] Yeah.

[00:51:28] So, this time, like, I'm not doing it.

[00:51:32] But you are.

[00:51:33] 20 times in a row.

[00:51:35] But you don't understand.

[00:51:36] We do our own musical thing every now and then.

[00:51:39] What do you do?

[00:51:40] We make good songs.

[00:51:41] Yeah.

[00:51:42] So, I'm waiting for that now.

[00:51:43] We bring a type of energy to...

[00:51:45] I agree.

[00:51:46] And that, like, again, you guys are painting yourself into a corner here.

[00:51:49] You're both very good at this.

[00:51:51] No, but, like, not for the songs.

[00:51:52] So, you should do it.

[00:51:55] It's just...

[00:51:56] Tell you what, hold on.

[00:51:56] Okay, let's do it like this.

[00:51:59] Nate, how many times did you go to the theater?

[00:52:02] When?

[00:52:03] Between the last episode and this one.

[00:52:06] Twice.

[00:52:06] I went twice as well.

[00:52:08] Ben, how many did you go?

[00:52:09] Once.

[00:52:09] Okay.

[00:52:10] So, you get to do the trailer song.

[00:52:11] That's not fair.

[00:52:13] I just came up with the right now.

[00:52:14] Does that mean that next time, if I go to the theater more than you, I don't have to do

[00:52:18] the trailer song?

[00:52:18] No, that's the rules this week.

[00:52:20] Shut up, Nate.

[00:52:21] Is that what it's going to be next time?

[00:52:22] No, no.

[00:52:23] Nate's right.

[00:52:23] The rules change.

[00:52:24] What's it going to be next week?

[00:52:25] Oh, I don't know.

[00:52:26] It's just...

[00:52:27] Where the Lord Leads.

[00:52:28] Yeah.

[00:52:29] You're the what?

[00:52:29] Where the Lord Leads.

[00:52:30] Where the Lord Leads.

[00:52:32] Yeah.

[00:52:32] It's a book by Shel Silverstein.

[00:52:33] Yeah.

[00:52:34] The sequel to Where the Sidewalk Comes.

[00:52:40] What?

[00:52:40] You're going to cry?

[00:52:42] I don't want to do it this time.

[00:52:44] Why?

[00:52:44] Let's make me do it all the time.

[00:52:46] All right.

[00:52:47] Let me think.

[00:52:47] I hate you so much.

[00:52:50] Oh, I can do the one.

[00:52:52] I can do the one.

[00:52:53] Oh.

[00:52:54] I'm excited to know what the one is.

[00:52:56] I love this.

[00:52:56] Hey.

[00:52:58] Hey.

[00:53:00] Hey.

[00:53:02] Hey, trailer watcher.

[00:53:03] Come and watch some trailers with me and Brad and Nate and Ben.

[00:53:08] You know what the fuck is?

[00:53:09] Hey, trailer watchers.

[00:53:10] What are we going to watch tonight?

[00:53:14] Tonight.

[00:53:15] There you go.

[00:53:16] That's all you get.

[00:53:17] My favorite thing about Ben.

[00:53:19] I remember it's the most famous songs.

[00:53:23] He gets like the first...

[00:53:25] That's all I know of them.

[00:53:26] ...like 25% of the main part of the song.

[00:53:28] And then he forgets how the song goes.

[00:53:31] Hey, soul sister.

[00:53:33] Da da da da da da.

[00:53:34] Da da da da da.

[00:53:35] Da da da da da da da da da da da da da da da.

[00:53:38] But I got nothing after that.

[00:53:39] See, that's the thing.

[00:53:40] When Nate and I do this, we know the song.

[00:53:43] Yeah.

[00:53:43] We fit the rhythm.

[00:53:45] I think that that went okay.

[00:53:46] No, he went with...

[00:53:47] Hey!

[00:53:49] Hey!

[00:53:50] Hey!

[00:53:51] He did do that super long shrill lead in.

[00:53:54] You're right.

[00:53:55] Hey, trailer watcher.

[00:53:57] Come and watch a trailer with me.

[00:53:59] And Nate and Brad and me.

[00:54:00] And I said myself twice.

[00:54:03] You do love listing the people watching the trailers in every song you do.

[00:54:08] It's all I have.

[00:54:09] Hey!

[00:54:11] You fucking assholes.

[00:54:13] Like, I gave you something and now you shit on me.

[00:54:16] That was every week.

[00:54:17] All right?

[00:54:18] I did my best.

[00:54:19] And it's never good enough, Dad.

[00:54:21] That's a good one.

[00:54:22] Well, that was the trailer song.

[00:54:24] I can hate you so much.

[00:54:25] I was like, I'll do the one.

[00:54:26] I figured maybe you guys would know what I was doing.

[00:54:28] No, not until you...

[00:54:29] Oh, I know.

[00:54:29] Hey!

[00:54:30] Hey!

[00:54:31] Hey!

[00:54:32] Hey!

[00:54:35] At least you knew what it was, though.

[00:54:36] Yeah.

[00:54:37] Because honestly, normally it'd be like, hey!

[00:54:40] Hey!

[00:54:42] Hey!

[00:54:43] At least I went for it.

[00:54:45] He did.

[00:54:45] He did go for it.

[00:54:46] I was proud of you.

[00:54:47] I did a full dispute because I was trying.

[00:54:48] We watched a couple trailers.

[00:54:50] Hey!

[00:54:51] Oh, God.

[00:54:52] It's too much now.

[00:54:52] No, no.

[00:54:53] You stop now.

[00:54:54] Hey!

[00:54:55] Is it gone?

[00:54:56] No, we're good.

[00:54:57] We're good.

[00:54:57] Hey, trailer system.

[00:54:59] First, first...

[00:55:00] It is hard to get out of your head.

[00:55:01] You're welcome.

[00:55:02] You're welcome, listener.

[00:55:03] Let's stay in spooky season spirit, shall we?

[00:55:06] Okay.

[00:55:06] We watched the trailer for The Wolfman.

[00:55:10] Oh, what's that like?

[00:55:11] This is a new Wolfman movie.

[00:55:13] Oh.

[00:55:13] Isn't it funny that we just got done talking about Wolfman?

[00:55:16] Well, we did?

[00:55:17] Monster Squad?

[00:55:18] Oh, sure.

[00:55:18] You were there.

[00:55:20] This is a new take on the classic Universal Monster.

[00:55:25] It's coming from Blumhouse, the same production company that gave us The Invisible Man, which

[00:55:29] was, again, a redux of one of the classic Universal Monsters.

[00:55:34] It's like if Cujo was on a Penske truck trapped on a bridge.

[00:55:41] Yeah, sure.

[00:55:42] I'll bite on that.

[00:55:44] So will The Wolfman.

[00:55:45] This looks interesting?

[00:55:49] I don't know how I feel about this.

[00:55:51] Yeah, because it has some of the classic Wolfman elements, but I think what's changing it up

[00:55:56] a little bit is that this time the person transforming into The Wolfman has a family with a wife and

[00:56:03] kid.

[00:56:03] See, but with movies like this and the trailer, of course, does a pretty good job of cutting

[00:56:09] this together.

[00:56:10] But if the narrative truly is like, ooh, he's turning and then he's back to normal and he's

[00:56:14] turning, I don't like that movie.

[00:56:16] Well, but I'm fine with it if they're able to incorporate much more of a family element

[00:56:22] that they haven't done before.

[00:56:24] Because I do think there's something interesting about having this small family unit and suddenly

[00:56:30] not being able to trust the person who is supposed to protect you and keep you safe.

[00:56:34] That's fine.

[00:56:36] But there have been plenty of movies that have done similar things with zombies, where

[00:56:41] it's like, oh, they're bitten.

[00:56:42] And the thing is, in a zombie movie, the time frame is like 15 minutes of the movie, maybe.

[00:56:49] That's what I mean, though.

[00:56:49] And so if you're dragging this out for two hours or an hour and a half of just like he's

[00:56:53] going to get bit and can I trust him, can't I?

[00:56:57] There's a good way to do that, but I don't know that Blumhouse is the one to do it.

[00:56:59] I mean, I wouldn't discredit Blumhouse because they've done plenty of good subtle stuff too.

[00:57:03] I mean, the Invisible Man is fucking great.

[00:57:06] Well, and honestly, you did say that you love the Invisible Man, and so then when I saw that

[00:57:10] this was from the makers of, is it the same exact producing team and the director?

[00:57:14] I forget who the-

[00:57:15] Or is it just Blumhouse?

[00:57:17] I forget who the director is.

[00:57:18] Because that's different.

[00:57:19] If you're just like, the production studio-

[00:57:21] The director is Lee Wannell.

[00:57:23] Yeah, Lee Wannell.

[00:57:24] So yeah, he is.

[00:57:24] Okay, so then I trust it a little bit more because you said that Invisible Man was very good.

[00:57:28] You haven't seen Invisible Man yet?

[00:57:30] No.

[00:57:30] Are you serious?

[00:57:31] Dude, I have kids now.

[00:57:32] I watch fucking Scooby-Doo and Monster Man.

[00:57:34] That movie came out in 2018, you fuck.

[00:57:37] Wait, what?

[00:57:37] The Invisible Man came out in 2018.

[00:57:40] I thought you said the one just came out.

[00:57:41] It came out in 2020.

[00:57:43] I thought you just watched one that just came out.

[00:57:45] I watched the classic old Invisible Man.

[00:57:48] Oh, that's what it was.

[00:57:51] He didn't direct that one?

[00:57:53] Because his father wasn't even, his grandfather wasn't even born yet?

[00:57:56] The new Invisible Man came out in 2020?

[00:57:57] 2020?

[00:57:58] Yeah.

[00:57:59] Oh, pandemic year.

[00:58:00] Interesting.

[00:58:00] Yeah, because we talked about that back then because it was like pretty high grossing.

[00:58:04] Like it was like the third or fourth highest grossing movie of the year.

[00:58:06] But it was one of seven movies that came out that year.

[00:58:09] Oh yeah, interesting.

[00:58:11] I thought for everybody that was 2018.

[00:58:12] Anyway.

[00:58:13] Hey, Nate.

[00:58:14] Do you remember?

[00:58:15] Don't look this up.

[00:58:16] In 2020, what was the box office winner for the whole year?

[00:58:22] No idea.

[00:58:23] Brad, do you know?

[00:58:24] 2020?

[00:58:25] 2020.

[00:58:25] What was the box office?

[00:58:26] I think that I'm saying this because I think I remember.

[00:58:29] I'm saying no idea, but I'm going to look it up.

[00:58:31] So you can prove me wrong because I know you love doing it.

[00:58:34] Gosh, I'm blanking on like the-

[00:58:36] And I do enjoy it.

[00:58:38] I'm blanking on the movies that even came out in 2020.

[00:58:40] So like, I don't even know.

[00:58:42] I believe it was Bad Boys.

[00:58:45] Bad Boys for Life.

[00:58:47] You might be right.

[00:58:50] As soon as I have enough internet because Ben canceled the internet.

[00:58:55] Well, at least we're moving.

[00:58:56] Okay.

[00:58:56] All right.

[00:58:57] Number one for that year.

[00:58:59] No.

[00:59:00] Shit.

[00:59:01] Demon Slayer.

[00:59:02] Shut up.

[00:59:03] Oh, well, that's probably true.

[00:59:04] But like, because that was a big anime.

[00:59:07] International?

[00:59:07] Okay.

[00:59:07] Well, calm down.

[00:59:08] Let's do domestic box office.

[00:59:10] And then The 800, which is another Chinese movie.

[00:59:13] Yeah, exactly.

[00:59:14] Jesus.

[00:59:14] Nate.

[00:59:14] The number one American film is Bad Boys for Life.

[00:59:18] Okay.

[00:59:18] There we go.

[00:59:19] Fucking asshole.

[00:59:20] I was like, oh.

[00:59:21] Anyway, I'm curious about this.

[00:59:24] The one thing that I'm still skeptical about, though, is that-

[00:59:27] So Universal Studios does Halloween Horror Nights every year.

[00:59:32] And one of the featured monsters this year at the theme park was this new version of The Wolfman.

[00:59:40] And the first look at The Wolfman before the teaser trailer was even released was a pretty crappy version of what this might be.

[00:59:49] And people were like, wait, is that the new Wolfman?

[00:59:52] Hold on.

[00:59:52] Wait, like the animatronic thing at the park?

[00:59:54] No.

[00:59:54] It's a person in a full prosthetic suit and everything.

[00:59:58] But Halloween Horror Nights is like a really high-quality theme park affair.

[01:00:02] I know, but that's never going to be the same as a movie.

[01:00:05] No, but that's the thing, though, is Halloween Horror Nights is very well known for having stuff that does feel very movie quality.

[01:00:11] And because this was the kind of first glimpse at what that Wolfman might be, everyone was like, wait, really?

[01:00:17] And so-

[01:00:18] It was like Sonic with the fucked up teeth?

[01:00:20] Kind of.

[01:00:21] It just kind of looked like a decrepit old man in a way.

[01:00:27] I'm saying it to you guys right now.

[01:00:29] It's just, it was very weird.

[01:00:30] Okay.

[01:00:30] And people were disappointed in it.

[01:00:32] Apparently, the movie might have a better version, but based on what you see briefly in the trailer,

[01:00:38] it kind of seems like it's not too far removed from what they actually had.

[01:00:43] Oh, well, that's just, whatever Nate just said, that's just a goblin creature in a wig.

[01:00:48] It kind of looks like leprechaun.

[01:00:49] Like, that is Spirit Halloween.

[01:00:53] That is.

[01:00:53] That's not good.

[01:00:54] The quality is a little higher than Spirit Halloween.

[01:00:57] That's Spirit Halloween.

[01:00:59] Yeah, so I don't think that that's, it's fully like that.

[01:01:03] But, like, there is some, there are some similarities to what's in the movie.

[01:01:07] But we'll see what happens.

[01:01:08] I'm trying to reserve judgment until we actually see the movie.

[01:01:10] Yeah, somebody put that out and was like, yeah, no, we're going to have this be the new Wolfman.

[01:01:14] The other thing that I'm a little bit-

[01:01:15] He's an old man.

[01:01:16] What I'm a little disappointed by is that, and this could be an indication of where the movie might have went as far as quality,

[01:01:23] is that Ryan Gosling was supposed to star in this at one point.

[01:01:27] That's way different.

[01:01:28] That's a way different movie.

[01:01:29] Yeah.

[01:01:30] So, I don't know necessarily what happened, how it went down, what it is, but I'm-

[01:01:34] Well, at least, Ryan Gosling saw this photo of the Halloween Horror Nights.

[01:01:37] He's like, that's what you're doing to me?

[01:01:38] Fuck off.

[01:01:40] I'm not going to play zombie Gandalf in your Wolfman movie.

[01:01:43] I'm going to go into the remake of Any Which Way But Loose where the monkey actually touches my dick.

[01:01:48] Derek, is it?

[01:01:49] D'Rique.

[01:01:50] Cien France.

[01:01:50] Cien France.

[01:01:51] D'Rique St. France.

[01:01:52] Yeah.

[01:01:53] So, we'll see.

[01:01:55] I'm curious.

[01:01:56] I'm skeptical, but I'm curious.

[01:01:58] I mean, the transformation stuff in the trailer looks good.

[01:02:02] Like, it's not that you saw that again, and hopefully, maybe we can post that on Facebook, that photo.

[01:02:09] Some people know what the hell we're talking about.

[01:02:10] It's old news at this point, if you haven't seen it.

[01:02:12] Calm down.

[01:02:12] The listeners like me have never seen that photo before.

[01:02:14] All you got to do is type in Wolfman Halloween Horror Nights.

[01:02:16] You got it.

[01:02:17] Good Lord.

[01:02:17] What is wrong with you?

[01:02:19] Let's provide the audience with some better stuff.

[01:02:20] Literally, the device that you're listening to this podcast on, you have at your disposal

[01:02:24] to search anything you want to, and you can literally see it right this moment.

[01:02:26] People are driving.

[01:02:27] And you've seen it.

[01:02:29] They're driving.

[01:02:30] What I do like about this, though, is Julia Gardner's in it.

[01:02:33] I don't know if you guys ever watched Ozark.

[01:02:35] I haven't, but I've seen her in other things.

[01:02:36] But she's fantastic.

[01:02:37] She's a good actress.

[01:02:38] And she's a very good actress.

[01:02:39] You know that Mitch is driving on the other side of the road right now, and he pulled out

[01:02:43] his phone, and he got in a car accident because you tried to make him look up at the Wolfman?

[01:02:46] But why do you have to mention that he's driving on the other side of the road?

[01:02:48] You make it sound like that's the reason he got in a car accident.

[01:02:50] No, because he's in New Zealand.

[01:02:52] Yeah, but he's used to it, so it's not like it's a feature that makes it harder to drive.

[01:02:55] I'm actually hoping that somebody was going to call me out.

[01:02:57] Do they drive on the other side of the road down there?

[01:02:59] Do they have roads?

[01:03:00] I'm not sure.

[01:03:01] They have roads.

[01:03:02] Calm down.

[01:03:02] They have roads.

[01:03:04] But, hey, Mitch, do you drive on the left or the right?

[01:03:06] In the Shire.

[01:03:08] I was afraid, because I think-

[01:03:08] In the Shire.

[01:03:09] Because I don't think they do that in Australia, but I don't know if New Zealand is like that.

[01:03:12] I'm going to guess that I was wrong, but they drive on the right side of the road just

[01:03:15] like America instead of like Britain.

[01:03:17] I am going to guess they take horses.

[01:03:21] Mitch, I'm sorry about Nate.

[01:03:23] I know you haven't met him.

[01:03:24] You met him?

[01:03:25] No.

[01:03:26] I'm sorry.

[01:03:27] I know you don't remember him.

[01:03:28] Because he left before-

[01:03:30] Yeah, he ghosted you.

[01:03:31] We had Mitch on the podcast, and Nate literally left.

[01:03:37] I was done.

[01:03:38] Mitch is from New Zealand.

[01:03:39] He comes to the States.

[01:03:41] He comes on the show.

[01:03:42] We're so happy to have him.

[01:03:43] I love him.

[01:03:44] The three of us, we get along.

[01:03:45] It's all great.

[01:03:46] It's everything you want it to be.

[01:03:47] We turn around, and Nate is just fucking gone.

[01:03:50] Yeah, Mitch was disappointed he couldn't say bye to you.

[01:03:53] And we probably said this.

[01:03:54] Mitch said, did I say something to offend him?

[01:03:57] Because that's how quickly you fucking left.

[01:03:59] Well, you guys know me well enough.

[01:04:01] You know I am as good at an Irish goodbye as anybody you know.

[01:04:04] Listen, my cousin Jimmy Russell is the king of the Irish goodbye.

[01:04:08] We know this.

[01:04:09] You are a very close second.

[01:04:11] Yeah.

[01:04:12] It's crazy.

[01:04:12] Jimmy's even complimented me on how good I am at it.

[01:04:15] Yes.

[01:04:16] He left my birthday party without saying goodbye to me.

[01:04:21] Like, that's fucked up, man.

[01:04:22] Don't do that.

[01:04:23] So, yeah.

[01:04:24] So, I typically, when I am done with something, just look forward to going back home.

[01:04:29] Or somebody, evidently.

[01:04:31] But yeah, so Mitch, I think you're driving the right side of the road.

[01:04:33] Speaking of being done with something.

[01:04:34] Are we done with this podcast?

[01:04:36] Almost.

[01:04:36] We've got to talk about one more trailer, and that's The Electric State.

[01:04:39] What the fuck was this?

[01:04:41] What?

[01:04:41] Yeah, this is the first trailer for a new movie from the Russo brothers.

[01:04:45] What is this?

[01:04:46] I want to see it.

[01:04:47] I don't know.

[01:04:47] I just don't.

[01:04:48] There's no.

[01:04:50] There's no.

[01:04:51] Boy.

[01:04:51] No.

[01:04:52] I want to see this.

[01:04:53] I like the Russo brothers.

[01:04:54] So, here's the thing.

[01:04:55] I'm intrigued by the sci-fi world in which this is set.

[01:04:58] I don't fully understand it yet.

[01:05:00] I'm curious about it.

[01:05:01] But I also don't have enough goodwill in the Russo brothers outside of the Marvel Cinematic

[01:05:06] Universe.

[01:05:07] Right.

[01:05:07] Because I know that you saw the same trailer I did where it was like, responsible for us

[01:05:11] is Avengers, Avengers, and then the gray man.

[01:05:13] One of these things is not like the other.

[01:05:16] And it was like, that was the last one you mentioned because it's the last movie they

[01:05:19] did.

[01:05:19] And now we're going to this.

[01:05:21] Yeah.

[01:05:22] Not a great downslope.

[01:05:23] And also, Chris Pratt not playing Smarmy, just playing a guy.

[01:05:28] Okay.

[01:05:28] That's fun.

[01:05:29] Yeah.

[01:05:29] Hey, you know what?

[01:05:30] I'll help you find your whatever.

[01:05:31] He's not doing a funny bit.

[01:05:33] There's nothing there.

[01:05:33] Oh.

[01:05:34] This also feels like one of those movies too where like a lot-

[01:05:36] Hey, Passengers 2.

[01:05:37] A lot of pressure is being put on the wigs.

[01:05:41] And it's not Kristen.

[01:05:42] Yeah.

[01:05:44] There's clearly a lot of wackadoo hairstyles here.

[01:05:48] And by the way, here's a trailer that's not funny until the very end in which they try

[01:05:52] to be a little funny.

[01:05:52] What the fuck is going on?

[01:05:54] Why is there a Mr. Peanut robot?

[01:05:56] Yeah.

[01:05:56] And also, I'm not joking.

[01:05:57] The whole trailer was a serious sci-fi action film.

[01:06:01] And then right at the end, the robot gets hit in the head and starts making jokes.

[01:06:06] Yeah.

[01:06:06] What the fuck is the tone of this trailer?

[01:06:08] Yeah.

[01:06:08] Okay, wait.

[01:06:09] Nate, why do you love this?

[01:06:10] Yeah.

[01:06:10] Are you excited about this?

[01:06:11] He is.

[01:06:12] And why?

[01:06:13] This is based on a graphic novel.

[01:06:15] Oh, okay.

[01:06:15] So this is not their idea, right?

[01:06:18] They are-

[01:06:19] And you know, spoiler alert, neither were the Avengers films.

[01:06:23] And they did pretty good with those.

[01:06:24] Yeah.

[01:06:25] And so, and this was voted one of the best books by NPR in 2018, right?

[01:06:31] So this comes from good source material.

[01:06:33] Whether or not the Russo brothers can adapt it in a way, whether or not, you know, the

[01:06:38] actors can actually pull this off.

[01:06:41] It also has a $320 million budget.

[01:06:45] Whoa.

[01:06:46] Jesus Christ.

[01:06:46] Which is just, I actually, that makes me upset.

[01:06:49] That's too much money.

[01:06:50] Way too much.

[01:06:50] That's Netflix for you.

[01:06:52] Well, the crazy part here is, I know that you, to tell a story like this, you have to

[01:06:57] build that world.

[01:06:57] I get that.

[01:06:58] But is this planned as a three film thing where this is the setup?

[01:07:02] And if not, I fear that they're just going to have to rush building this world and we're

[01:07:06] not going to be really, you know, ingratiated in it.

[01:07:09] Yeah.

[01:07:10] And then we're just going to have to watch what happens.

[01:07:11] So yeah, I wasn't ever on board.

[01:07:14] I don't understand.

[01:07:15] I have an hour and 50 minutes to tell this story.

[01:07:17] The one question is, see, I like these types of movies.

[01:07:19] I like these fantasy dystopian films.

[01:07:21] But what I do, I am wondering, and why it makes me a little nervous is, if this was

[01:07:27] very good, they would definitely try to release it in the theater for a little while.

[01:07:31] Well, no, Netflix is the one getting the money.

[01:07:33] Yeah, that's the thing is, Ted Sarandos, even more so recently, has been talking about

[01:07:39] how they're just not into releasing movies into theaters.

[01:07:43] Can they buy their own theaters and give me a freaking large screen?

[01:07:47] Because I want to see this on a large screen.

[01:07:48] You know what?

[01:07:48] If they were able to shave, you know, $100 million off that, they could have a very nice

[01:07:54] Netflix theater, at least in LA.

[01:07:56] Actually, they do.

[01:07:57] Oh, really?

[01:07:58] Yeah.

[01:07:58] Netflix bought the Egyptian theater.

[01:08:03] And so do they release their movies only in that theater?

[01:08:06] Not their movies only.

[01:08:07] Like, they play other stuff, but they do use it for, like, premieres and, like, they

[01:08:10] play some of their movies.

[01:08:11] And is that so that things are going to qualify for the Oscars?

[01:08:14] I think that that's part of it, but they also just, like...

[01:08:17] Talk about a limited theatrical run for the Oscars.

[01:08:19] Like, it's one theater for one day.

[01:08:21] I mean, if they do do a qualifying release, they will release it in, like, 10 of the biggest

[01:08:27] cities across the country, but, like, even then.

[01:08:30] But, yeah, they just keep pulling more away from giving certain movies theatrical

[01:08:33] releases.

[01:08:34] Even movies that feel like they deserve to be on the big screen.

[01:08:36] $320 million?

[01:08:37] Yeah.

[01:08:38] Jesus.

[01:08:41] It's an irresponsible amount of money to be spent on a single movie.

[01:08:43] I mean, but how much do they have to pay Chris Pratt?

[01:08:46] How much do they have to pay...

[01:08:47] But you get...

[01:08:48] That's the thing.

[01:08:48] You can make 10 $32 million films.

[01:08:53] Yeah.

[01:08:54] And, like, five of them are probably going to be really good and five might shit the

[01:08:57] bed.

[01:08:57] Yeah.

[01:08:57] But the upside there, you would think, is so much better.

[01:09:00] It's a big problem.

[01:09:02] Studios are spending too much money on too few projects.

[01:09:05] They need the new tentpole is what they need, and so they're always actively searching

[01:09:08] for the next Pirates.

[01:09:09] But, like you said, how do you even...

[01:09:10] For the next Shrek, even.

[01:09:10] Yeah.

[01:09:11] I mean, I know Millie Bobby Brown is a big deal, especially for young people, right?

[01:09:15] So, you look at the cast and you think, well, I'm not going to go to Netflix just because...

[01:09:19] But there will be a group of people that want to see this film just because of Millie

[01:09:22] Bobby Brown.

[01:09:22] That's fine, but also, like, it's a $320 million budget, and not a big percentage of

[01:09:28] that goes to Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown.

[01:09:29] I mean, it's the special effects in building that world.

[01:09:32] I get it, but my God, that's a lot of money.

[01:09:34] Yeah, that's way too much.

[01:09:35] That's even on the...

[01:09:36] Right?

[01:09:36] That's the budget, not the marketing.

[01:09:38] So, you got another $100 million in the marketing of it.

[01:09:40] Well, maybe, maybe not because if they're...

[01:09:42] Because it's Netflix.

[01:09:42] Yeah, because it's Netflix.

[01:09:43] If they're not putting it in theaters, they don't need to spread the word quite as much.

[01:09:46] Oh, my God.

[01:09:46] You know?

[01:09:47] Still, though.

[01:09:47] Oof.

[01:09:49] Oof, man.

[01:09:50] Alan Silvestri is doing the music.

[01:09:53] Well, now I'm back on board.

[01:09:54] I like Alan Silvestri.

[01:09:55] My man, Alan Silvestri, he did Predator, and he can do no wrong.

[01:09:58] Did Back to the Future?

[01:09:59] He did Avengers?

[01:10:00] Avengers.

[01:10:00] No, he's...

[01:10:01] He's very talented.

[01:10:02] He's a fantastic composer.

[01:10:03] I don't know.

[01:10:03] I'm skeptical still for this one.

[01:10:05] I don't know.

[01:10:06] I don't trust the Russos enough outside of the MCU, and we'll see.

[01:10:10] I really don't know.

[01:10:11] Looks like a swing and a miss so far just because there's a lot going on there, and none of it.

[01:10:15] I was like, this is awesome.

[01:10:16] Yeah, it's a teaser, even though it's a longer trailer.

[01:10:19] I know.

[01:10:19] My God.

[01:10:19] It's a teaser.

[01:10:20] There's a world being created.

[01:10:22] I am fascinated by the world they're going to create.

[01:10:24] You know what?

[01:10:25] Here's what it is for me.

[01:10:26] I wish they would have chose anybody else other than Chris Pratt.

[01:10:29] I just don't like...

[01:10:31] Yeah, you're pratted out.

[01:10:31] I'm pratted out.

[01:10:32] Especially in roles like this.

[01:10:33] Because it doesn't look like he's playing what he's very good at, which is that smarmy

[01:10:38] asshole.

[01:10:39] And maybe that is the guy they're hiding, but why hide that in the trailer?

[01:10:43] I want to see...

[01:10:44] I don't like that, yeah.

[01:10:46] I don't want to see the everyman.

[01:10:48] I don't want to see him doing that.

[01:10:50] I want to see him being smarmy and assholey.

[01:10:53] Or I just want to see a different actor.

[01:10:55] Yeah.

[01:10:56] I'm pratted out.

[01:10:58] But, I mean, we do know that he's still selling tickets.

[01:11:03] Oh yeah, no, and you're not wrong.

[01:11:05] Millie Bobby Brown is an A-lister now, and you know, okay.

[01:11:09] I'm not sure if Millie Bobby Brown is an A-lister now.

[01:11:12] You don't think so?

[01:11:13] I don't think...

[01:11:14] She's a cusper, but I don't think she's right there.

[01:11:15] Yeah, because she hasn't opened a movie.

[01:11:19] Well, she's about to.

[01:11:20] Is she?

[01:11:22] I saw the trailer, didn't you?

[01:11:23] This is a Netflix movie, though.

[01:11:24] It's not getting big theatrical release.

[01:11:26] $320 million budget!

[01:11:28] She's definitely an A-lister.

[01:11:29] She will definitely be an A-lister.

[01:11:30] If you're in a $320 million movie and you're one of two people in it, you're an A-lister.

[01:11:34] No, that's not true.

[01:11:35] In order to be an A-lister, you have to also have the actual box office draw to be like,

[01:11:40] Oh, I'm going to see that movie in theaters because Millie Bobby Brown is in it.

[01:11:44] What are you, 90?

[01:11:45] Maybe?

[01:11:45] No, that's true, though.

[01:11:46] No, no, but it used to be true, but there's no more box office, Brad.

[01:11:48] It's all streaming shit.

[01:11:50] No, but there is still.

[01:11:51] That's what makes an A-lister still.

[01:11:54] So Adam Sandler has a deal with Netflix now.

[01:11:56] Hey, do me favor.

[01:11:56] So he's an A-lister.

[01:11:57] Do me favor.

[01:11:58] Name three other movies with Millie Bobby Brown in them.

[01:12:01] That doesn't matter.

[01:12:02] No, no, no.

[01:12:02] Go ahead.

[01:12:03] Tell me.

[01:12:04] When an actor or actress becomes an A-lister...

[01:12:07] Name three other movies that she's been in.

[01:12:08] But listen to me.

[01:12:09] When an A-lister hits, they don't have to have three movies behind their belt to become an A-lister.

[01:12:14] You can get that one that makes them an A-lister, and that's what this movie is supposed to be because it's $320 million fucking dollars.

[01:12:20] But she's led other Netflix movies before, and I don't think that...

[01:12:23] Actually, she's kind of the darling of Netflix, honestly, if anything.

[01:12:26] Yeah.

[01:12:26] Right.

[01:12:27] And so Netflix, a lot of a stars, she's obviously Stranger Things, Damsel, Enola Holmes.

[01:12:34] And those films do really well for Netflix.

[01:12:38] She is a draw for Netflix.

[01:12:40] A list.

[01:12:41] She's not an A-lister.

[01:12:42] But that's the hard thing.

[01:12:43] I mean, maybe the problem is that the lists aren't as important anymore because...

[01:12:50] That's 100% true.

[01:12:52] You know...

[01:12:52] It's not that these are people that are driving...

[01:12:54] You know, the Tom Cruises of the world don't exist anymore.

[01:12:57] It's just they're the movies and these people are in them.

[01:12:59] But I think the...

[01:12:59] But for me, an A-lister is somebody who delivers quality entertainment on a consistent basis,

[01:13:06] and they're a draw for wanting to see a movie.

[01:13:09] I think an A-lister is...

[01:13:10] And they're successful.

[01:13:11] A very big part of the reason you're going to see a movie is because of the actor or actress.

[01:13:16] That's the A-lister, right?

[01:13:16] I think you were talking about an A-list, and it's about fame.

[01:13:19] Yes.

[01:13:20] Millie Bobby Brown is very famous right now.

[01:13:22] I don't think that she has shown quality enough work and has delivered enough on a consistent basis

[01:13:28] to be considered an A-lister.

[01:13:29] She doesn't actually do a ton, honestly.

[01:13:32] I mean, she's in a movie about a year, right?

[01:13:34] Yeah.

[01:13:35] They've been making Stranger Things Season 5 for six years.

[01:13:39] Those kids will be literally in their late 20s.

[01:13:42] But you're absolutely right.

[01:13:45] My kids know who she is.

[01:13:47] Yeah.

[01:13:47] Right?

[01:13:48] And so she's a big deal.

[01:13:51] Every teenager knows who Billy Bobby Brown is.

[01:13:54] And so, yeah, it is...

[01:13:56] I think the broader question, though, is what do we define as A-list anymore?

[01:14:00] Because social media influence is part of that.

[01:14:05] It has to be...

[01:14:05] Yeah, the reason that a lot of these kids are going to go see this movie is because of her.

[01:14:09] So isn't that the same as drawing what used to be a box office, you know?

[01:14:13] Yeah, my kids will...

[01:14:14] Well, the kids don't have to go see the movie because it's going to be on Netflix.

[01:14:17] That's what I'm saying.

[01:14:17] Oh, my God.

[01:14:18] You're proving my point for me.

[01:14:19] You're right, though.

[01:14:19] My kids care more about Millie Bobby Brown in this.

[01:14:22] I've got a 16, 14, and 12-year-old.

[01:14:26] Then they do Chris Pratt.

[01:14:27] Exactly.

[01:14:27] And you would say that Chris Pratt is an A-lister for sure.

[01:14:31] Yes, Chris Pratt is an A-lister.

[01:14:32] Yeah, but Millie Bobby Brown means probably more to getting people to watch this movie than

[01:14:35] Chris Pratt when you're talking about that certain demographic of 14 to 18-year-olds.

[01:14:40] That's my point, though, is it's a very specific demographic.

[01:14:43] And I think to be an A-lister, you have to appeal to all demographics.

[01:14:45] I don't think that that 14 to 18-year-old demographic is going to see a movie with an old man like

[01:14:50] Chris Pratt in it.

[01:14:50] Guys, thank you for listening to GoFix.

[01:14:52] They do care about Stanley Tucci, who's also in the film.

[01:14:54] Oh, who doesn't care about Stanley Tucci, though?

[01:14:56] I do.

[01:14:57] I love Stanley Tucci.

[01:14:58] I would love to see Stanley Tucci.

[01:15:00] He's an A-plus lister.

[01:15:02] He's a voice, but you're not going to see him.

[01:15:04] Of a generation.

[01:15:05] Is he in it as a person, or is he a voice?

[01:15:07] I think he's just a voice.

[01:15:08] Sad.

[01:15:08] Well, he's probably a person.

[01:15:09] It's a real waste of the Tucci.

[01:15:12] I'd like to Tucci him.

[01:15:14] Maybe one day you will.

[01:15:15] Oh, actually, no.

[01:15:17] Stanley Tucci is in the cast.

[01:15:19] Yeah, see?

[01:15:20] Well, we know he's in the cast, but he's-

[01:15:21] No, he's not a voice.

[01:15:22] Oh, I told you.

[01:15:23] Voice actors are Jason Alexander, Woody Harrelson, Anthony Mackie, Brian Cox, Jenny Slate, Billy

[01:15:28] Bob Thornton, and Alan Tudyk.

[01:15:29] There you go.

[01:15:29] So he's in it.

[01:15:32] Now, that's an A-lister.

[01:15:34] Billy Bob Thornton?

[01:15:35] No, Stanley Tucci.

[01:15:36] I said A-plus lister.

[01:15:37] I didn't say it.

[01:15:39] God!

[01:15:40] Listen to me when I talk.

[01:15:41] This has been-

[01:15:42] It's hard.

[01:15:43] This has been-

[01:15:44] That's what the monkey said.

[01:15:45] Such a podcast.

[01:15:46] This has been a great podcast.

[01:15:48] We're in the last 20 minutes.

[01:15:49] We debated Millie Bobby Brown's status as an A-lister.

[01:15:51] And we learned a little bit about ourselves in the process, I think.

[01:15:53] It's true.

[01:15:54] Yeah.

[01:15:54] The friendships we made along the way.

[01:15:55] And, you know, one day we'll look back on this with great fondness.

[01:16:00] That day won't be tomorrow.

[01:16:02] No.

[01:16:02] It won't even be next week.

[01:16:04] Well, we'll be not back with a new episode.

[01:16:06] We're taking one week off.

[01:16:09] However-

[01:16:09] But you will have a new episode because we did some sneaky time travel and we have a

[01:16:15] little bonus episode where we'll be talking about a specific movie and it'll have a fun

[01:16:20] little crossover.

[01:16:21] It's almost like-

[01:16:24] Yeah, it's Saturday night.

[01:16:25] It's like the-

[01:16:25] Is the film that we watched.

[01:16:27] It's like the Flintstones meets the Jetsons of our podcast universe.

[01:16:30] I love when shows do that.

[01:16:32] Right?

[01:16:33] I love it.

[01:16:33] Saturday night is the film.

[01:16:35] And it's a big mystery.

[01:16:36] You'll find out what the crossover is.

[01:16:38] Saturday night.

[01:16:38] We covered it on-

[01:16:39] Big crossover.

[01:16:40] 10 to 1.

[01:16:41] You'll see coming up in a new episode while we take the week off because Ben's got to

[01:16:45] go and, I don't know, fucking put his kids in a nursery or something.

[01:16:48] I don't know.

[01:16:49] He's got to take his wife to the candle shop.

[01:16:51] What?

[01:16:51] Whatever fucking bullshit he's doing this week.

[01:16:53] I got to read the kids a bedtime story.

[01:16:55] I have to move the podcast studio.

[01:16:57] It's about this fucking jack-off monkey.

[01:16:59] I have to move the podcast studio.

[01:17:00] You're not going to do it.

[01:17:02] You're going to pay somebody to do it.

[01:17:03] I'm going to move the podcast studio.

[01:17:05] Make sure that it's done.

[01:17:06] Yeah.

[01:17:07] I'm responsible for making sure it happens.

[01:17:09] Okay, Lorne.

[01:17:10] A really big show.

[01:17:13] Well, this has been fun.

[01:17:14] This is like Ed Sullivan.

[01:17:15] Oh, fuck.

[01:17:16] You're right.

[01:17:18] I can't believe I just did it.

[01:17:19] Everybody, we've got a really big show for you tonight.

[01:17:21] Everybody, you're going to love it.

[01:17:22] A really big show on Saturday night.

[01:17:24] A really big show.

[01:17:26] Oh, boy.

[01:17:26] Well, bye, everybody.

[01:17:28] Bye.

[01:17:36] Nah, cheat saying no.
