[00:00:34] And the aquafina to my core hydration Special guest Charlie Young I was wondering if you were gonna know another water brand Yes Also Dasani improved their formula No, Dasani's dog shit you know it First of all, core whatever the fuck it's called
[00:00:50] No, it comes in a stupid butt plug bottle I know that's why you like it You cannot tell me that it doesn't taste good Core water is the best water It tastes good You know what other, you would like the body armor water that just came out
[00:01:01] Smart water is the best Nate Smart water is good Smart water is great And I can't believe there are actual, you know, different tasting waters But it's true But Dasani is still hot garbage It is I will always drink Dasani
[00:01:13] You know what's wrong with the great value water is not bad You know what, that's usually not what I want my water to be Not bad Is it good though? I mean it's better than Dasani's I'm a tap Everything is better than Dasani Tap water
[00:01:28] I've had water and Haiti That was better than Dasani That's fair That's saying something You're a piece of shit We should just start a company called Tap And it's just water we bottle out of the tap Tap out and we have shirts to say tap out
[00:01:42] Oh I like it Ben's got a whole box over here in the basement The coolest dudes will wear them right And drink our water Yeah Tap out bro Tap out thirst Yeah, tap out bro I don't know about you guys but I can tap out water every day
[00:01:54] Is that your MMA fighter guy? No, that's my guy who's like building body every day bro Who's building body? He's building body every day I don't know about you but like I've been body building And building body like ever since I started lifting these weights
[00:02:08] What's your favorite exercise to do? At least like 40 crunches and like 50 bench press lifts If you ask him three more questions he'll get full short sniggered It was good It's coming No, because I like I like to have That's happening No, because I like to have
[00:02:26] Big sausage burritos bro Bro Oh well this has been Fitness Corner with Brev Arnold Definitely not fit in this corner Fat Well hey guys, what kind of podcast Another episode of Go Flicks Yourself Where we talk about the latest movies we've seen
[00:02:48] And it's been a couple weeks so hopefully we got a couple to talk about Oh yeah We watched a couple trailers I don't really want to talk about them We'll see what happens We watch trailers By the way did you not give him the trailers before?
[00:03:00] No, because it was kind of a Hail Mary Let's not watch the trailer If we do then Charlie will just fly with us By the seat of his pants It'll just be like we're on a trip That could actually be the game Guess the trailer
[00:03:14] He'll never get one of them No, there'd be no way but we'll do it anyway I like this Brad who is our lovely and talented sponsor this week Ben, I'm glad you asked I ask it every week But he's glad that you ask every week
[00:03:27] I found a delicious treat today Just this very day when I was at the store Okay I'm looking for a delicious treat for today Five below Trust me, I already had options because I brought a couple that are still here on the couch
[00:03:39] That we didn't use because Ben brought a surprise sponsor Yeah Yeah, that was weird Man, fuck you Yeah, that was weird Hey man, don't do that anymore I feel like we didn't really process that together afterwards But that was weird
[00:03:54] Don't do it like I was trying to be nice and bring a sponsor Yeah, but it's just kind of Nobody look at Brad Don't do that anymore Nobody look at Brad Nate's intently staring at you Can you hear Nate? Close your eyes I'm producing this podcast right now
[00:04:08] Yeah, but stop looking over here You don't have to look at me, look at your screen He's making sure you're in shot Yeah, stop it Okay, Charlie, hold out your hands I want to reach him myself Can I look at the item?
[00:04:22] Just grab the bag and bring the bag over here I don't have mine yet No, no, no, no Stop looking at the bag, you piece of shit I see your eyes wandering If you were at a strip club right now, you'd be looking straight at the tits
[00:04:35] Don't look at the bag Don't you fucking look at the bag You're getting so serious about this No one look at the bag It's cereal, you give us cereal This is fucking awesome You gave us fucking toasted mini-week in a ball It's cereal, you gave us cereal
[00:04:54] So what it is Cool It's literally cereal Guys, this is giant cereal No, it's funnel cake balls No, it's not Listen, I hate to tell you, hers But it's not This tastes like a mistake piece out of Cinnamon Toast Crunch
[00:05:15] This is hers crunchy and sweet funnel cake flavored snack balls And they are none of those things They are delicious Yeah, you can taste the powdered sugar It's almost like if you took kicks And put powdered sugar on them Yeah, I kind of got it
[00:05:32] You got kicks out of it? I love kicks Do you guys like snack balls? It depends on what kind These are pretty good though They're not bad I had three or four of them and that's all I want
[00:05:46] This feels like a rice cake version of a funnel cake Yeah, I guess so It just kind of tastes like it but it's a lot of air No, it's not good I like them I wouldn't have them all the time
[00:06:00] But the one time I was in the mood for them I'd probably crush the bag If they had a salty counter to it I think I would like it more Maybe in a bowl of some milk A salted caramel funnel cake ball No, you said caramel It's caramel
[00:06:16] There's an extra A in the word We're in Indiana, it's caramel There's a city called caramel And there's not an A in that one Did you like the caramel? Do you like the caramel? Welcome to the elitist branch of where we're at Let's look at the caramel
[00:06:34] Your uncle and your aunt Hold on guys, sorry about that Two dumbasses walked in and started talking on the mics Who obviously don't know anything about words And how letters are pronounced And for a guy that pronounces it milk instead of milk and pelo
[00:06:46] First of all, I have never Don't you even fucking try I have never said milk or pelo Or library in my life I'll cut your dick off And it drives me crazy When he's trying to narrow things down I'm being very pacific about this
[00:07:02] And it drives me nuts We never correct him A large expresso We never correct him and he does it all the time The worst though When he comes over and he's like Hey, you know what I've seen the other day I've seen this guy come up to me
[00:07:18] And he said I saw I saw I saw it I've seen you not getting a diploma That's what I've seen I will say this, those are all fun But I do hate the way he says sure Sure There's no way The reason you hate it
[00:07:40] Is not because it's the way he pronounces it It's because it's always What's to follow He's like agreeing with you But he goes sure But This is why you're wrong Ben is right though I will very specifically say sure In that way when I'm saying it sure
[00:08:00] But no, I don't ever say the word sure Like normal, like that I don't emphasize it He's like you made an okay point Yes, exactly This is a better point That's what he says Funnel cake is enough So these are funnel cake flavored balls Sure
[00:08:20] And we put them in our mouth And they were sweet I'm gonna put these in milk You really, honestly let me know They would probably be pretty good I bet you they're gonna go soggy real fast But I bet that milk afterwards Like cotton candy
[00:08:36] It's just gonna be bad Hold on, listen, they made a good point The milk's gonna taste delicious I know you like a good milk I do love good milk I don't do anything with milk Because it's not a real thing It's milk I'm just glad I'm a podcast
[00:08:54] You're actually saying it correctly Warsh My dad does say wash He says Washington That was a good earnest scared stupid reference Thank you Ben Back to the movies Full circle, we did it So yeah, let's start with Charlie What have you seen lately buddy
[00:09:14] I think I've seen three movies like recently Oh wow What the fuck Actually he's also seen one movie three times recently That's why it's old, yeah Should we have that conversation here? Not only is it time But we're going full spoiler for this chat
[00:09:32] If we're doing it because now it's All they've been doing is talking about it So it was every American So before we get lost in this I do want to say I did watch the Power Rangers movie yesterday I didn't hate it by the way The first one
[00:09:47] The one that came out a couple years ago He's about 95 We're talking about Mighty Morphin Power Rangers The movie, not the Power Rangers It's okay How was it It's very nostalgic There's a lot of it You grew up watching the Power Rangers That was the little after Ben
[00:10:07] Fun story, literally my younger brother did I can tell you I was pretty I've watched a lot of Power Rangers Up until like 1920 I mean I still watch them I still turn them on I still look for collectibles So it's a thing
[00:10:23] It is a Star Wars back to the future level He's not keeping up with every iteration of Power Rangers But there are still new iterations Oh yeah It's still an ongoing show Because it's still being made in Japan So it's super cheap to make
[00:10:37] And kids eat it up It's nostalgic But it's horrible It breaks cannon and lore And is bad I think the CGI holds up though I'm sure it does No Before that A couple days ago Taylor had never seen The Founder So we watched The Founder
[00:10:59] I like that movie I actually talked about that movie on this podcast A few years ago We remember We can dive into the one I have seen Three times Here a recent The Garfield movie Maverick Honey, I shrunk the kids That's what you had?
[00:11:21] I just tried to think about something that would be boring Maverick? It just didn't come out It's been a couple years Oh you mean Top Gun Maverick I thought the same thing I'm like Maverick Maverick? Is that a card movie? I watch Payback That's your favorite actor
[00:11:43] No I really do love James Garner It's his favorite profit Oh yeah Profit Anyway Three times in the last Week or so What did Mel Gibson ever do? Nate It is too soon He's like don't bring the sponsor That was weird
[00:12:10] It's not the time to talk about this Do you have anything else you want to get off your chest? It's going to be a long night Deadpool Wolverine Deadpool 3 D&W Yes Whatever you want to say is important That was my third movie Rank these for me
[00:12:30] Guests of the podcast Finley and I were just talking about this He's seen it twice now How would you rank the Deadpool films? One, three, two Why do you not like two as much? Two was just a And they're all a lot of the same Of themselves
[00:12:48] It's the same mistake but I love it For sure They're all like STR, STR, ATEAR No Two felt a lot more Just like a more one And while three Also felt like that It had enough Of the cameos and what it brought To the table in Hugh Jackman
[00:13:10] I felt like Three certainly plays the same shtick Because it's Deadpool But there was enough swings in there There was enough It was my favorite multiverse I don't love the multiverse Which I love that they make fun of it It was my favorite multiverse thing
[00:13:28] I thought it was very good I still think No Way Home Is like a home run all around Yeah, sorry I didn't connect that with multiverse Because the characters don't go Into the multiverse as much Him and Dr. Strange do for a battle
[00:13:45] And there's some efforts to it I also don't consider that So that That battles not in the multiverse That's in the mirror universe Nerd The multiverse That's not entirely accurate The mirror universe is not a separate timeline That exists as a separate universe
[00:14:05] It's a place where Dr. Strange can do things That don't actually affect the timeline That he's in Multiverse means characters from other universes Yeah, exactly So No Way Home I think is still the best one I will say Yes Sure Which I understand why you would
[00:14:25] Because it was by connecting it Hold on Face of The Infinity Saga What? No, that's far from it Brad, you know what he means though You do understand what his point is But I Do you understand his point or not Because the point is trying to make
[00:14:45] That's okay but you need to at least Understand where he's coming from I'm saying No Way Home Is the better multiverse movie Sure The movie Is going in two different ways Where as characters going Into different multiverses Which is a theme that they have
[00:15:05] That the entire movie taking place In one universe and just characters From other universes come and stay That's a weird way to classify By those odd parameters Yes The film is set in one Hold on Which is the better multiverse movie Let's figure that out
[00:15:25] That's not a big of a swing I'm setting a point though One space We never leave 616 Exactly, that's what I'm saying I agree with that When people You hate them When people would say What's your favorite multiverse movie No Way Home would not cross my mind
[00:15:47] Because it took all places But No Way Home is a better film Oh my God Sure To piggyback off what you were saying I'm pissed out See what he does See he gets in your fucking skin He's like a little splinter In your stupid pinkie figure
[00:16:07] And your pinkie figure isn't even a very popular finger But the splinter that goes under it It still gets under that fucking nail And now all you can think about Is the stupid splinter And you don't care about anything else
[00:16:19] You get the clippers out and you start digging it out And you get it out eventually And you do win but it leaves this huge hole in your heart And guess what You know what's better for a splinter Is just let it leave your body on its own
[00:16:31] So if you just let things happen Then you won't have to worry about it I would love to let you leave on your own So here's the thing I agree with the ranking that Charlie has as well I do think it's 1, 3, 2 However I do think 2
[00:16:45] Is a better made movie I think it is more fun And I enjoyed watching 3 more than 2 Because 2 It builds upon 1 I still think 1 is the best only because It was the first one to really subvert Comic book tropes at a time when it really needed it
[00:17:01] And just Ryan Reynolds Perfectly bringing Deadpool to life And doing it in such a way that felt Kind of like they went rogue In a way because it came from The leaking the footage And it felt more street level too And Deadpool 2 gets bigger
[00:17:17] What I do appreciate more about Deadpool 2 Is that David Leach is a better filmmaker Than Tim Miller And so the way he shoots action And stuff like that And plus because they had a bigger budget It works better cinematically But I do think 3 was more enjoyable
[00:17:33] Having seen it 3 times in theaters I personally think it holds up The story is held together by toothpicks It is not a well written movie As far as the narrative by any means I will say it doesn't need to be
[00:17:45] But I also think they should be striving for that I'm not upset that it's not a great story But like I wish it were better still What would you do to make this story better How would you write a whole screenplay They need to flesh it out better
[00:17:59] Like what in there did you feel unsatisfactory Logistically the story doesn't make any sense There's no actual like Legitimate or significant reasoning As to why certain things happen Or why certain characters are doing what they're doing Once you start to actually think about Why things are happening
[00:18:18] So the villain in this movie can leave The void whatever she chooses to But she just chose not to because she was loving Being there Right, that could be the queen of that world Why would you allow such a high power
[00:18:29] Being to exist if you are the timeline people Because eventually she would fail If she went to earth right here she is The superpower she is The leader of the world And they know that in her mind that's what she wants to do
[00:18:41] To 616 and start taking things over But eventually she will be overcame by Another good guy of her caliber Yeah we'd rather have her down here Ruling this underworld Let her have her playground But she can still leave any time Exactly there's no hangover
[00:19:01] They knew she was happy down there She said she was happy down there She had I don't think that's the point In her pocket so The point is it's a weak explanation I was literally in the middle of the sense Yeah I think you Charlie
[00:19:17] I was finishing what Ben was saying She kept this thing right in her pocket She could have had a plan at some point To go back up there But no also like The reasoning behind why Paradox Pulls Deadpool out of his timeline It's hand waved away of like
[00:19:33] Oh my superior said that They think that you're special for some reason But he's not gonna let him die Since the timeline is Gonna be destroyed when you put it in Through the time ripper anyway Like all you do is create a problem for yourself
[00:19:47] That's a good point But even so those things didn't distract from me Enjoying the hell out of the movie Because it's hilarious There's a lot of fun things that happen From the cameos, from Fox Marvel characters And Blade and Channing Tatum as Gambit And all this stuff
[00:20:03] Channing Tatum was great I loved it It was Just a blast I've seen it three times now So I don't need to go back to the theater to see it again I'll wait until it comes out I was good with once
[00:20:19] Ben you haven't said much about how you felt about it But tell us what you think about Deadpool and Wolverine I really This is the first Marvel film in a while That made me think oh This is what I used to think
[00:20:33] I knew it was going to be good going in I had all the faith Because I trust these filmmakers And I trust Ryan Reynolds And of course Hugh Jackman And I sat down in a theater with that Giddiness
[00:20:47] That I knew I was going to be watching something great Not just good but great And then when I left the theater I felt even better Because it not only lived up to my expectations But it surpassed them as far as
[00:20:59] I laughed harder at this film than I have at the previous ones And Wolverine was doing it So even though the action scenes where he's fighting On 100 Deadpools or whatever It could have been done technically better I was still having so much fun watching Logan Rip things apart
[00:21:13] It didn't matter The idea is You used to stand around in the parking lot After a huge Marvel movie Going can you imagine what it's going to be like And you just got excited And of course we lost so much of that
[00:21:27] After Endgame just because they didn't have a great direction How does Ben stop going to movies? Well no because they weren't as good The world stopped going to movies for a while But it just It was a little too much We've talked about this
[00:21:41] You know it's just too much They really went all in on Disney plus And it killed it So rank phase 5 movies for me If you will So far we've got That's a whole thing That's like 10 movies to try and rank That's not phase 4 or phase 5 Phase 5
[00:22:01] God Brad know your movies Get into movies please Ant-Man and the Wasquantimania Ant-Man and the Wasquantimania Garden of ZLC Volume 3 The Marvels and Deadpool Wolverine How do you rank those four? Deadpool Wolverine is at the top I'm going to give it to Quantimania I'm a Quantimania defender
[00:22:25] I know you are And I was disappointed in Guardians 3 I like Guardians 3 a lot I don't dislike it The reason that I didn't like the movie As a whole Is you can't It's the marketing You can't have all the marketing saying Get ready
[00:22:45] Somebody is going to die and then nobody dies I don't love that Every single time there was a character in peril I'm like oh this is where I hate that The thing about Yandu dying Was that it was real And it had an emotional resonance
[00:23:01] Scarlet Johansson, Black Widow Gamora These things were permanent And then the Marvels is last But I don't think the Marvels is bad I don't think These really aren't horrible movies That's what I'm saying Phase 5 isn't terrible They've been straight steady since in-game
[00:23:21] I mean honestly the one before A-Man I liked Black Panther What kind of forever It's pretty good Even though we're dealing With a downturn in the MCU It's mostly because of how high The Infinity Saga took us And how good Endgame was In resolving that storyline
[00:23:41] And just delivering so many things And there was a storyline between all of the films They felt congruent I think the reason everything Even if there are enjoyable chapters It's the TV thing Like Ben said But it's also the lack of cohesion between the movies
[00:23:57] That you don't have because the multiverse saga As it stands does not have A through line that makes you Keep wanting to come back for more It wasn't working even when Jonathan Majors hadn't been convicted Of assault and harassment And Kang was not super exciting
[00:24:13] For people which is a big part of the reason Aside from that why they're switching Which if you haven't heard Was announced at Comic Con With Robert Downey Jr. coming back Not as Tony Stark but as Victor von Doom Who's Dr. Doom Feeling from Fantastic Four
[00:24:29] And who will be in both of the Avengers movies Avengers Doomsday and Avengers Secret Wars And the Roots of Brothers are coming back So I'm a little confused about this Is he playing a variant They have not confirmed that That's the presumption That's what I think
[00:24:45] Dr. Von Doom by default He'll be Dr. Doom But I think it'll be a universe where Tony Stark became Dr. Stark If it doesn't It makes no sense And to give Dr. Doom some Iron Man tag Pretty cool There are several comic book storylines
[00:25:03] Where Iron Man becomes Dr. Doom Are you At all excited about it? Do you trust the Roots of Brothers? I trust the Roots of Brothers to an extent Because they worked miracles with Infinity War And Endgame If you go read about the behind the scenes
[00:25:20] You'll find that some of the most pivotal moments In that movie were kind of happy accidents Which happens a lot Even some of the best made movies Do you have an example of that? The I Am Iron Man line That Tony Stark goes out on with
[00:25:34] That wasn't scripted They didn't have that until the day they shot that scene That was RDJ Probably that It's an iconic role So that's why they bring him back When he snapped his fingers and he said I Am Iron Man The Iron Man line was not scripted
[00:25:52] That's crazy It's perfect Originally it was I Love You 627 It was RDJ It was here goes nothing The Roots of Brothers have not done Great things since Endgame It's going back to the well for both Marvel It reeks of desperation Sure that might come from Me sitting
[00:26:18] In my armchair Critic We're at a point when they obviously know They need to win fans back One of the biggest stars It's a very safe play I don't hate it It is desperate But at the same time If they don't I think they lose it all
[00:26:38] It could be done well but it could not So 2025 We're done with Marvel films for this year And so 2025 is going to bring us Four films Which of the four Are you most excited about Let me read them just in case you guys Listeners might not know
[00:26:56] Captain America Brave New World coming out February 14th Great Valentine's Day Thunderbolts May 2nd Fantastic Four first steps Blade is supposed to come out November 7th What's going on with that It's a complete clusterfuck They've gone through Three or four different directors now They're having a hard time
[00:27:20] Finalizing the script I think they started shooting Or at least they were on the verge of it And it's just Mess, mess sucks Is that casting It says here on Wikipedia Filming is expected to take place in Mexico The United Kingdom and The Trivus Studios in Atlanta
[00:27:40] And it sounds like They actually haven't started Showing anything Yikes I'm excited for him In that order The Fantastic Four Is starting to film now So that will likely come out next year So between those films And those three I'm just excited about seeing Fantastic Four
[00:28:06] You stole that from me You had 25% No, I was really going to say that Because I think I know what I'm going to get With Brave New World I think it's going to be right over the middle I don't think they're going to do anything crazy
[00:28:20] I think they're really going to be like We need to make sure that this is It'll be a fine film to see in the theater I'm excited to see Harrison Ford Of course, but this is going to be something that hits all the hallmarks
[00:28:30] And make sure we're not doing anything weird and crazy Again, it'll be a good movie A solid movie I don't know Really anything about the Thunderbolts? I'm excited about Thunderbolts because It brings back David Harbour as Red Guardian And anything that he's For me it's Florence Pugh
[00:28:50] Thunderbolts is supposed to be Marvel's Suicide Squad With Fantastic Four I think they can finally get it right It's a totally different vibe this time Because they're leaning into that 60's Retro style But it also has a new futuristic Angle to it
[00:29:08] I guess people would like to imagine the Jetsons Meets Marvel essentially And that cast It's incredible You're talking about Pedro Pascal And that's a Kirby, Joseph Quinn And Iban Mossbackrack And that's awesome It's not just Pedro Pascal And he's having this moment
[00:29:28] He is one of the biggest actors in the world now So these are super A-list people that are doing this And again, not that necessarily back Then Michael B. Jordan wasn't An A-lister But that movie just shit the bed I just think that this is
[00:29:42] They've got a real good opportunity here To hopefully just keep going With this new kind of push That Wolverine and Deadpool have started And I think Fahgee really wants to get Fantastic Four right I'm just not a big fan of Elon Musk Backer
[00:30:02] Ben, where do you rate the Deadpool's? Uh... Probably Three One, two You like this one It's a punch in the face Again, it probably has more to do With where we are now And what this film means Because I really, I don't want to repeat myself
[00:30:24] But I was so excited knowing going in I haven't felt that way about a Marvel movie Forever and for as good as Deadpool 1 and 2 were I didn't need to feel that way Back then, I was still trusting Marvel It didn't have to be the best movie
[00:30:38] This had a lot of weight on it's shoulders And it fucking pulled it off And I talk about this all the time I'm afraid that I'm never going to go to the theater again Feeling the way I felt When I walked out of in-game During that movie
[00:30:52] It was the best I felt that way during Star Wars movies I don't know that I will ever feel that way About a movie again as I did What, a 22 movie payoff? I felt So the way that a movie can make you feel Emotional or thinking
[00:31:08] Or you leave going, wow, that was an experience I felt that way in Oppenheimer You didn't feel that way? I haven't seen Oppenheimer I saw Oppenheimer in the theater And it gave me that feeling Like it was a thing of beauty I felt that way with cocaine bear
[00:31:24] No, that was just cocaine Oh yeah, and I'm a bear You do do the sights Yeah, no, I definitely That high of N-game is something else Yeah, I'll never I cried I laughed I cried both Sad tears and tears of joy It was such a satisfying end
[00:31:50] Four or five times I cried Yeah, like you cry with joy When he finally snaps and Thanos disappears And it turns into a cry of sorrow Because you realize he can't handle his dad And there was something about it For me that it felt like he almost knew
[00:32:04] That this is where his life was going There are certain moments in core movies For me that will still trigger That emotion, like I'll still get that little choke Right? When Han Solo shows up at the In a New Hope to help out Luke in the trench run
[00:32:16] Back to the future When Marty hits The hook at the exact time And Doc's plug, like they still The threesome and wild thing The diaper change scene In 3 Minute and a Baby No, N-game, like Portals Is one of those scenes When Stephen Dorf dies In Blade
[00:32:42] But yeah, no, that when Everybody comes back to help Cap How are you going to top that in the theater? Even scenes that aren't Even that big Even when you see Thor and Rocket Right? Just come into Wakanda Every single goose bump
[00:33:00] On my body was at full attack That's amazing, what a cool scene The MCU has been full of so many of those And I think that I can't agree with you more Charlie I don't know that I'll ever feel That way again This was the first time
[00:33:14] I was like, oh shit That's where these goose bumps have been That's what you guys have been hiding There's a small scene even Where Rocket and Nebula Are together And they just hold hands You know that scene, yes It's when they come back
[00:33:32] I don't want to take the win out of Ben's sails But Thor and Rocket coming to Wakanda In Infinity War No, I'm saying moments like that In the MCU That's why we have The Heart of a Dying Star And they put those in the Marvel logo
[00:33:48] I want to see those Marvel logo Montage scenes again That's why people talk about We just had a movie come out So they have all the up-to-date Montage scenes in there They added Deadpool There's no Eternals in there There's no Quantumania in there It might be there somewhere
[00:34:08] We can't look everywhere But you're right though This is why when people Crap on Marvel films I feel like they don't often give Those films that we just talked about Endgame, Infinity War, Spider-Man No Way Home There's an emotional resonance That is as deep as many serious films
[00:34:28] We just went through Because Ashley and I Have been together for eight or nine months Now and we've not really Talked about our favorite films of all time We talk about this What is currently my top ten My moods have changed You've got your five or six
[00:34:46] Back to the future Your Ghostbusters Your Emanuel And Space You're going to have those I started going through mine I'm going to circle back To this point The first time I saw 12 Angry Men Was in 2016 I remember feeling so emotionally raw I watched that film The 1950s version
[00:35:12] It's almost a perfect film I felt something You can still feel that way By watching Infinity War By watching Endgame You're not denigrating movie Watching or cinema By enjoying an MCU movie I just don't subscribe to that It doesn't tarnish my palette
[00:35:32] To watch Seven Samurai and respect it Or to watch The Godfather I still can't believe how perfect this movie is The same actor The Academy Award For Robert Downey Jr Is the same actor He's lost his acting ability They know how to craft a story
[00:35:50] And I think that a lot of things Not to get too much on this tangent About the MCU being Genuine cinema But I think that a lot of The Scorsese out there That have the opinion like that They're doing shortcuts To get you there
[00:36:10] This is not real filmmaking This is popcorn filmmaking That's faking emotions And I disagree with that If you have an emotion, how is it fake? Just the way you get Cheat Damn We're gonna have a conversation about that tonight Thanks for planting that seed You're talking about fake
[00:36:34] If I'm in a movie theater And I am laughing at what's happening on the screen Or I'm crying because Tony Stark is dying How is that a fake emotion? Yeah, I agree No, yeah I understand The criticisms that some filmmakers Make when it comes to
[00:36:52] Marvel movies and certain kinds of things Because there's an aspect Of Commercialism And populist filmmaking of it It's hard to get a grasp on Anything Where it feels like it's more of a product Than it is art That doesn't mean that I think that
[00:37:12] Any of the Marvel movies are less than art Because some of them are downright fantastic And are incredible movies But I do understand that perspective Of having a preference For stuff that feels Like it is more grounded Or more For lack of a better term, genuinely
[00:37:30] Not being a dick and then just say That's just my preference There's an aura Of gatekeeping around certain Cinefiles that I personally also hate Because we There are some people who are very Uppity about Their film tastes And really dismissive of most
[00:37:50] Superhero movies just because of superhero movies And it's like you don't need to do that To appreciate both Scorsese And Marvel movies It's because Marvel movies aren't story Driven movies And I feel like the best ones are But it's just that they don't necessarily
[00:38:06] Care as much about them The deeper Mechanics of storytelling And like As somebody who Deeply loves Martin Scorsese Movies I still love movies like Avengers Endgame And stuff like that Endgame is in my top five Different value in each of them But like
[00:38:30] I think that one of the things we have talked about That I think is a good criticism of the MCU Is that if you are Christopher Nolan And you make Oppenheimer It's this creative process that took you Years to come up with
[00:38:42] And the emotional payoff of that film Is tremendous Oppenheimer doesn't have 21 movies Before it to help you pay that off But Endgame really did And so like you can't look at Endgame And see that movie And you're riding a pretty long train That's unfair
[00:39:00] I do believe in that That's a lot of It's a lot of source material That's also very true But also you have to do it right In order to get that The Russo brothers were tasked with paying off 21 movies So the pressure to do that is incredible
[00:39:18] I see both sides of that I just hear the smartest thing I've ever said Great point Ben But I also just think Like you said, you can love both You can live in both those worlds And appreciate them for what it is I loved Oppenheimer
[00:39:34] I loved Endgame and DC movies I can live in both We're done Last appearance of Charlie Young Dead Bull in the Rain You're not back Ben what's another movie you saw? You know what I watched A little movie from the 90's Called Serial Mom Oh that's on Netflix
[00:39:56] Have you ever seen it? I haven't John Waters About Kathleen Turner Plays a suburban housewife That people think is a serial killer Because she just happens to be In the areas where these people are dying But within the first like 5 minutes Of the movie she's the serial killer
[00:40:16] They don't hide it But it's about her desperate Psychopathic nature becoming unfolding And getting bonkers and bonkers I mean it's I watched it and thought it was weird when I was a kid I watched it now, it's phenomenal The way they just lean in full on with it
[00:40:32] It's really worth your time It's like the last season of Dexter I've never seen Dexter Hour and a half long But just a breeze And John Waters humor is right there In your face Isn't that film Mrs. Winterborn It was just really well done Satire
[00:40:54] What happened to Ricky Lake? Well she got a very famous talk show In the 90's My mom used to watch it And then she did Weight Watchers commercials for a while And I think now she's quote unquote retired But I don't feel like she's that old is she?
[00:41:08] Wasn't there some kind of scandal with her show? That's Ellen No there was something There was a Ricky Lake scandal She had a guest on her something that turned out To not be what they I don't know there was something with Ricky Lake
[00:41:22] I could have sworn there was some kind of scandal with her talk show Producers? The Ricky Lake runs deep Alright So I watched that I also watched Warrior The Tom Hardy Joel Edgerton M.M. movie for probably the 400th time
[00:41:38] Yeah I was just gonna say you watched that movie a lot You've assigned me that movie I've watched it for so long I'm glad I watched it That actually reminds me I did watch Gladiator For the first time about a week ago Whoa There is a lead here
[00:41:54] Sorry It was just okay No You're back off Cut as mic It's wonderfully told It's a great story Okay then stop Don't give a shit about Roman Empire I've never been into it That doesn't matter It's just everything about it's so good
[00:42:18] Don't you hate walking Phoenix so much No I just I don't know why He was so good in that film I have a hard time watching him now And not hating him Like I genuinely do He hasn't even seen Joker I haven't And I wonder if that's
[00:42:38] Why because I have seen other movies With walking Phoenix That when I saw it He's just doing a great performance Russell Crowe That was like prime Russell Crowe Two men he's in good shape He wasn't even throwing phones yet The score
[00:42:56] I don't know why I just didn't get into it Connie Nielsen had a crush on her Thanks Nate Father to a murdered son Husband to a murdered wife I will have my vengeance in this life of the next So many good lines So many good lines
[00:43:12] I don't disparage that What's his name? Maximus Decimus Meridius It's a great movie It's well told, it's well shot It is gorgeous It's just not Well that's really disappointing I also watch The Bike Riders Hey there we go Did I talk about The Bike Riders on this show?
[00:43:34] Yeah I was like wait did I talk about that on the podcast? Your take on The Bike Riders If I remember correctly was I wish they would have gotten more into the story of The Club and rather than the retelling of it No the characters
[00:43:46] So you wanted them to get more into the characters I want to know more about the characters I liked it as it was As a retelling? Yeah like a shaggy presentation from one Prince perspective About what happened with The Club
[00:43:58] But I still wished it would have gotten a little bit deeper into the characters The way they were I wanted to see a movie A pre-story really done well It's not even a pre-story They flat out tell you how Tom Hardy formed The Club In the movie
[00:44:16] But it's just you don't really get an understanding As to why his personality is the way he is Like what drives him To still be in The Club and that kind of thing There's not a scene in the film Which one character Be it Austin Butler's character
[00:44:30] Or Tom Hardy's character Which would be the two that would do this Would have that scene That you would normally hope to see Which is a breakdown of the character saying This is a window into my soul Why I'm built the way I'm built
[00:44:44] And it gives, that would inform you so much On the rest of the film And it would have been that Probably that moment where oh that's why he's nominated for an Oscar Right? The Tom Hanks and Captain Phillips moment Where there's a monologue
[00:44:56] That really pulls it all together That was honestly probably the one thing I point to that I missed Like that didn't happen that I was really looking for No, I agree with that whole hardly Because I still really like the movie a lot
[00:45:08] Me too. I feel like I've not seen this movie But I feel like the cast is really good So it must be acted really well It's acted so well This is that motorcycle club movie right? Yes. What's her name? Jody Comer She is fantastic Retelling the whole everything
[00:45:26] It's recounted to a reporter who used to be a reporter that was in school And was following the club So he had first hand knowledge of it But then he comes back to interview her years later Hey, what happened to these guys? It's Mike Faced from Challengers
[00:45:40] From Pinball And it's about how the motorcycle group changed Basically back in the day It started as this and why did it go off the rails And what happened to all the guys that used to be in it And why did it get so crazy
[00:45:54] I was just saying But I don't think it It doesn't do a good job Diving into the characters You're never going to understand why they did what they did These are the things that they did And part of the failure of that Is not necessarily the filmmaking
[00:46:10] Because they did do this off of a book That was based on the interview So they were just keeping to what they had They told the story Of how it works It's exactly what they wanted to be They wanted to find myself wanting a little bit more
[00:46:24] And so that would have come with a movie that had Maybe more narrative freedom To make things up But they tried not to Were this a better miniseries do you think Do you need more time and energy No, they chose to make it The movie from the book
[00:46:40] From the interviews And they chose to stick to as much of the facts that they had But it makes it a very Oh so this is a true story It's about the It's very plot based This happened, this happened This happened, this happened
[00:46:56] Honestly all it would have taken is one scene And it would have been a hard scene To figure out if you don't have that Especially if you don't have that You don't know why Tom Hardy's character was the way That was Well worth a watch though
[00:47:10] That's what those liberties you can take If you're making something Based on a true story I think that this is one Pretty close to the best Those are some of the more frustrating films It's just one more scene that makes the film Good to great
[00:47:26] And the crazy part is I never ever think that I know how to make a movie But in this case I'm like you have Austin Butler or Tom Hardy who could have Delivered a wonderful monologue Or even her to get more into And then that's the thing that
[00:47:40] Emotionally captures you to that character more Still very good Michael Shannon's In it I haven't seen Michael Shannon in a long time The guy from The Walking Dead Yeah, Remus Darrell Dixon, whatever his name is Norman Reedus Almost unrecognizable honestly His teeth are just something to behold
[00:48:00] He's got a big bushy beard Big bushy beard But yeah, no it was good And then I'm halfway through Hitman The one that I said I wasn't going to watch Because my mom didn't like it I like it so far though You kids movies? Oh sorry
[00:48:16] Yeah I watched robots Robots? What? You never saw the 2005 movie You and McGregor Robin Williams No, I don't think I ever did Because my kids are too young So my oldest was born in 2008 Hey didn't you have an assignment? We didn't do assignments
[00:48:36] Yeah we did because I watched Mine I'm not sure that we did I watched robots And then I watched Something called the cat detective You both blew off your fucking assignments Now that I'm thinking about it I think we did do assignments before we left Yeah, we did
[00:48:56] What was mine? I might have watched it What if? I did watch what if Okay then you did your assignment then Oh no I watched if I'm not joking You had a whole conversation about this Because we watched the trailer
[00:49:12] To be fair, he was supposed to give me a film I think I'm pretty sure he did We'll have to go back to the text boys girls We didn't text about it because we talked about it in person Yeah we talked about it when we watched the original
[00:49:24] You were gonna text me a film and he never did But you also didn't follow up That's your responsibility too Why do I have to follow up? This is so much fun for the guest What if? Is it a Marvel series? I don't get it
[00:49:40] You have a film right? What was the film that you were assigned? Garbage Band documentary? I'm only happy when it rains I'm only happy when it rains I'm only happy when it rains Are you done with all your shit?
[00:49:56] I mean I'm 90% sure there's another kids movie in there That I'm rattling around But I'm wetter I'm gonna tell you right now We don't gotta hear about it Unless it's gonna bring Neck or hilarity? That's the kind of stuff we want
[00:50:12] But otherwise just leave the kid detective out Can you do a what do you do with the pecker impression? No don't, why are you trying to force this? No can you do it? No no no On my mother He's not forcing comedy
[00:50:26] He only wants it somehow to be worse than his So that he's not on the hook anymore That's exactly what I'm wanting You should get to know your friend Nate I would love to Sounds like he's high
[00:50:40] That sounds like something that came out of a jacket of ice Murderous clown Still way better than Nate What did you get assigned? I was assigned werewolves within Yes This is a horror comedy Based on a game of the same name Starring Sam Richardson I love Sam Richardson
[00:51:02] I love me some Sam Richardson It's fun It's a very fun movie It's funny, it's dark comedy It's got a fun mystery about it There's some cool twists and turns I know this is because they probably didn't have the money But I wish the cast
[00:51:18] Was a little more The budget on the strike 5 million Well established There's some funny people in here Who are character actors that I've seen in smaller parts In other movies before Mikaela Watkins She's funny, she does a good job Star She was a star on Saturday Night Live
[00:51:38] She starred on the show She was on the show From her star Abby Elliot Abby Elliot starred on Saturday Night Live From her star Seshia Zemeda From her star Luke Ridenhouse Luke Knoll Luke Knoll starred on SNL for a time John Rudnitsky John Rudnitsky starred on the show
[00:52:00] Okay, we're done Kristen Wiig Actually that's too far That's too far, she didn't know I very much enjoy this movie I would have liked to have seen A straight horror version of this movie Because the concept easily lends itself To that
[00:52:18] But having it be a comedy with this cast Does lend a certain level of fun to it Sam Richardson is a lot of fun Sam Richardson is awesome I'll watch What If And then I'll have to remember what I gave you You didn't give me a film
[00:52:32] I did give you one, I just don't remember what it was I'm pretty sure you did We all got on the list He was looking at stuff What's funny about this is We did not put An episode out last week Because we were working on some pre-work for
[00:52:48] A 10 to 1 episode that we just recorded today Where we're going through the SNL digital shorts And we were watching 30-some digital shorts 35 digital shorts So we did not have time to record as well Plus Ben was in a bad mood last week
[00:53:02] So it's just been a lot of work We decided that we were going to give our films To each other before we left that night So that We wouldn't forget Because oftentimes I'll just scroll back In the fucking text and then I'll see it Yeah, oftentimes
[00:53:20] Let's be honest, I forget Brad never does He always assigns his film And we did assign it But it was not in the text thread So I was not able to And there was no way for us to follow up Or get that information I didn't think today
[00:53:38] I thought the same thing I didn't want to ask Because if we did assign films I didn't have time to watch I'd rather deal with the wrath of Brad later And not as well Because I'm like He's gonna be so PC about this It's content
[00:53:56] I'm pretty sure we didn't know No, we definitely didn't It's something we do I watched my assignment I'm like, what the fuck are you talking about Sure This podcast sucks What else did you watch, buddy? I went to the theaters and I saw Trap Shamalans Shamalans Shamalans
[00:54:22] Whoa, black buddy I felt like your tweet suggested it wasn't No, no, no I had Brad, why do you hate this film? I had a very good time watching it But the first half Of the movie is pretty tight It's very suspenseful
[00:54:40] It does a great job with the premise That was wonderfully established in the trailer But the second half Kind of loses any semblance Of logic Or common sense Both in the narrative and among the characters And it was a little distracting But Josh Hartnett is so
[00:54:58] Fantastic in the lead role That you still enjoy it And you're kind of just along for the ride At some point you're just like Because Shamalans has a tendency to Do things that are Heightened thrillers in a way where It's a little bit unbelievable It's a little bombastic
[00:55:16] And this is definitely one of those movies If your threshold allows for that Then you'll be fine I know plenty of people who are Thoroughly entertained by it It was hard to accept Some of these Of the three of us And probably the four of us today
[00:55:34] You are probably the most When it comes down to like That doesn't make sense in the universe And Deadpool and Wolverine is the perfect example Where like, but it didn't bother me as much Because everything else was so fine And this one it's a little more distracting
[00:55:48] And it's frustrating because it's such A good premise that it just feels like Shamalans wrote himself into a corner And couldn't figure out how to get out of it Which is often, yeah it could be his problem But like I said Hartnett Makes it worth watching
[00:56:02] He's great in this movie He's really really good It's too bad because the trailers for these were The trailer, that's one of the best trailers I've seen in a long time I love that trailer And then I also watched a couple other things I rewatched Miami Vice because
[00:56:18] I don't know if you guys The whole series I don't know if you guys are aware of this You're a tubs man But film Twitter like jizzes itself Over Miami Vice It's because they love, love, love Michael Man in the first place But also they just love this
[00:56:36] Engagated performance bullshit And it's unwarranted And here's the thing, I appreciate what Michael Man does For the action movie by doing a more Nuanced approach to like That vibe of a movie This is a boring movie I remember thinking that Maybe it was a different time
[00:56:54] It was 2006 and I was still Learning about movies, still experiencing new stuff Maybe I just didn't get it I rewatched it and it's just fine There's a couple scenes In particular where he does a very good job Just like in Heat The gunfire is Fucking awesome
[00:57:12] He gets that better than any filmmaker that's ever lived Like how to really feel like you're in a shootout Call Michael Man Cause that scene in Miami Vice is fucking perfect But that's one scene in a Two hour and twenty minute movie
[00:57:24] It doesn't need to be even an hour and forty minutes Yeah it's just, it's too long It's too slow, Colin Farrell is very good in it But yeah I don't understand the hype behind Colin Farrell agrees with you He says I didn't like it so much
[00:57:36] When talking about the film I thought it was style over substance And I accepted a good bit of the responsibility It was never going to be lethal weapon But I think we missed an opportunity to have a friendship That also had some elements of fun
[00:57:48] Yeah because you never really get a vibe For Krakat and Tubbs being a good team There's no chemistry there And a big part of it is because most of the time They're spent and separated from each other Because he has the relationship
[00:58:00] I was hoping that I would be like Oh you know what Miami Vice is great but no Michael Man wanted to take, wanted to tell a story And just found that vehicle That they would let him make the story with
[00:58:10] And so he just didn't really care about the source material Not that Miami Vice is like something to behold But like if you throw away the relationship That made that, that TV show great Yeah it was the relationship between Krakat and Tubbs
[00:58:20] Right? And you don't have that in this film Yeah for sure I also watched a movie called Freaked From 1993 Okay That is co-directed by Alex Winter Of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure fame And this is like a wild Zayn? Zany Practical makeup effects Driven fantasy comedy
[00:58:44] Is there a puppet in this? There's several puppets Buckle your fucking seat though There are puppets and reindequade Whoa There are wild Impressive practical effects Creatures and characters in this movie And? That follows Mr. T? Yeah, Mr. T is an as the bearded lady
[00:59:04] At like this circus side show That Randy Quaid runs So in this movie Alex Winter plays A former child star Who was kind of washed up but he's using his fame To like sell Products basically There's this cosmetic company that is using This some chemical
[00:59:22] That apparently has terrible side effects Turns you into a puppet? No, it just Creates deformities and weird things like that Okay He's trying to push it And then he ends up getting caught up in this Crazy misadventure that takes him to the Circus side show with Randy Quaid
[00:59:40] He discovers that Randy Quaid Has been making his own circus Side show freaks as the title is implied By using the chemical That he's been honking and so Randy Quaid uses it On Alex Winter And he's this like totally douche bro Actor like and he plays it
[00:59:56] Very well it's very like over the top And it's intended to be And so Randy Quaid puts this stuff On Alex Winter and his Other two friends And turns them into freaks basically One of them are a guy and a girl Who aren't getting along and fighting
[01:00:12] And turns them into one person Like half and half and half This isn't that a bit I think that I've seen this movie You might have because it's From 1993 And it's a Fox movie Like it was a legit movie I would have been 12 years old
[01:00:26] So this would have been right up my alley And it sounds a little bit like Little monsters or No they had a $12 million budget I probably saw this in 3rd was a serious film It's exactly the vibe that you guys are talking about
[01:00:38] To me and it's zany and weird And freaks It does have Hey hey good for you That was really good I'm proud of you Essentially my natural voice So never do it again We got it And we don't need it anymore Now you sound like a Muppet
[01:01:00] I support it Because it went from Bobcat to a Muppet Of Bobcat Goldway How dare you I saw him at the Civic Auditorium in the La Port Ooo nice By the way also recently Saw him at the Civic Auditorium Last year But yeah this movie is wild
[01:01:20] It's not You can't technically stream it Anywhere officially It is available in HD on YouTube for free That's where I watch Power Rangers Oh wait so The filmmakers put it on YouTube I don't know if the filmmakers did It's just not readily available So somebody put it up
[01:01:40] And YouTube doesn't care about it enough To go look for it And it owns it Doesn't care enough to take it down Let me ask you a real question How did you I'm going to search Freak And watch it on YouTube The way this happened
[01:01:58] Is hanging out with friends of the pod Dan and Rodney Scooble They have the streaming service Called Eternal Family For those of you that don't remember Dan and Rodney introduced us to The Greasy Strangler I've ever seen And loved But so
[01:02:18] There's a streaming service out there called Eternal Family Where they Basically what it is Is the streaming service collects media that is considered Rare or lost That doesn't have rights that are easily attainable Or it's just not something that is Distributed widely or something like that
[01:02:34] And they either get permission from the people Who still own the rights to it Or they offer it for free If it's not something that they have the rights to And so It's full of all these just weird pieces of media Like Films from other countries
[01:02:50] And like short films that are really dated Because of the technology with which they were made Instructional videos Just all sorts of weird things We've watched so many weird assorted things After getting high And so initially Ronnie thought that this one Was on the streaming service
[01:03:08] Because they posted about it on twitter But all they did was post a clip And so we were going to watch it through there But then realized it wasn't available there And then we found out that it was available on youtube and hd
[01:03:18] If I'm looking for an obscure movie I'll always check youtube I prefer to watch them on 3 minute increments On tiktok But yeah this was It was just a weird fun movie We had a lot of fun watching it
[01:03:32] I was so taken aback by how good the effects were I thought you were saying I was so high But yeah freaked was A lot of fun The last thing I watched just before this was Mother I got back to my Albert Brooks kick Albert Brooks mother
[01:03:48] With Debbie Reynolds and Albert Brooks And Man this movie is so funny Albert Brooks is just like his delivery Is on another level He's got a great way of being dry and sarcastic Now I think I only have one more movie To watch It's on It's on canopy
[01:04:08] I think Or canopy or hoopla Freeple Freeple doesn't have a lot It's on film flam It's on blanket watch Film flam Nate Did you watch any movies buddy Did you watch your assignment Yeah I did watch my assignment I was assigned a documentary called Simone Biles Rising
[01:04:34] And I watched that I definitely gave you that But I did watch it It's a documentary on Netflix I've been watching a lot of the Olympics Are you guys into the Olympics or all that I just watched clips I turned it on when we were going to bed
[01:04:50] We'll turn it on for about an hour And just kind of browse the channels The channels that are on peacock We'll scroll through those channels I'm gonna do a Brad I'm gonna do a little versus Kong That's a good conversation Because you were at first you were like
[01:05:06] No and then you were like yes I hated this movie I don't have a lot of movies I hated this movie for the verse 20 minutes I was like this is so dumb This just feels so out of touch And out of place It's too campy
[01:05:22] That is exactly what you said when you met Brad 100% But then This is more of a Hold on to your hats This is a bonkers monster movie That's what I told you Yeah you did My goodness you were right It turns and I'm like oh man
[01:05:42] They bring out all the stops All the monsters Kong fucking fights like evil gorillas It's incredible It's such a fun fucking movie It's ridiculous it's a silly big dumb fun monster movie They know what they are 100% It's definitely bigger and dumbier And sillier than Pacific Rim
[01:06:02] But it reminded me of that We're all in here They're guys you were here And every town is being decimated They give fuck all In the real world There would be no population left Because of how much stomping on all these cities they're doing
[01:06:18] It was so freaking good Pacific Rim is probably my favorite monster movie Pacific Rim is an incredible monster movie I love that film If you haven't watched it Don't go into it expecting a serious Godzilla movie Because it is not that
[01:06:32] But it is a lot of fun if you allow yourself to have fun with it It's a little unfortunate that they just tried to push A bit of the seriousness of the narrative Because now you don't really know what to expect And I think that maybe is why
[01:06:42] This movie sucks because it's not taking itself very serious I think that is characteristic of the Godzilla franchise though Because if you go back and you watch the old movies Like there are drastic changes in tone Of course but the Brian Cranston one
[01:06:52] Was they tried to be very serious about that Sure but it has evolved so much since then Because Kong skull island gets a little bit more Loose with the style Not as serious There's some slaps to it It's pulpy too And then Godzilla vs Kong
[01:07:08] Did you watch skull island? I'm not a Godzilla fan So you should watch Kong skull island Honestly because John C. Riley is in it And the You know what I'm not even going to spoil anything That's what I've been told I do
[01:07:22] It's worth a different vibe on the whole thing Yeah that's what I do You like it? Sorry, that's my last movie So we usually watch the documentary about Simone Biles Yeah but that's not the important To answer your question too I don't really care much about the Olympics
[01:07:38] But I appreciate seeing when People do well and when there's amazing clips Then I'm like Like the guy that hits Dong on the pole Oh my god I love seeing that Dying board Ding Dong gets smacked around
[01:07:50] Which is why many of us have chosen not to be in the Olympics But this guy braved it And you know All of our worst fears happened Holy shit, the thing I'm loving right now is on Tic Tac They had this whole thing about
[01:08:02] Why I didn't make the Olympics And it's all these people like failing At their sport and so on But no I am Town actually got sucked into watching Not sucked into it but we turned it on It was like oh this is an Olympic sport It was badminton
[01:08:18] Olympic badminton is Nuts, they swing so fucking hard Anything done at a high level Anything with the word shuttle cock in it Fun to watch They're starting poses Let's have to do them martial arts Yeah it's crazy Table tennis is that one too I saw a fucking
[01:08:38] Bunker serve where I was like what the fuck is he doing He like turns his body And spins the paddle And he's staring at it Right close to his face and he's like Ka-cha! Are you doing scientific research With a microscope Or serving a ping pong ball
[01:08:56] Cause that's what they're doing I'm kind of obsessed with this idea That these people are training for four years To get to this point Nobody knows who they are I feel like he could have been the shooter from Turkey Oh that guy is awesome
[01:09:10] That guy is definitely an assassin Yeah he just showed up And they were like you want to do this Lots of happens in your man and your wife though And he goes hey no matter what You can't get gold, you'll be too famous He missed on purpose
[01:09:24] We did watch the Britten guy Where I can get the gold What was it? The guy from Great Britain That got the gold in the shotgun I didn't watch that 48 out of 50 You see the guy that looks like the fucking Hulk From America that went from fourth place
[01:09:42] To meddling With one throw of the shot put He did it in the rain Which of course even when you're throwing Something very heavy If it's raining it's gonna be harder to throw But his throw is so fucking far That he got a medal for it Like just
[01:10:00] How does that guy fly on a plane? No and that's what I'm saying So this documentary Simone Biles obviously Has never But it takes you through A couple different levels of her life The amount of training she has to do Especially as an older Olympian
[01:10:18] Older is like 26 or 27 For a gymnast that's like An ancient But also the racism That she's had to go through Her black job And she's learning You can see it now knowing some of this So it's been interesting watching the documentary And her actions now
[01:10:38] You see some of the deliberate things she's saying And doing as a reaction to The life that she's had to live There was just Serena fucking Williams Tweeted that she was not led into a restaurant In Paris Are you fucking kidding me? Yeah so
[01:10:54] You might not like the Olympics You might not love gymnastics It's an interesting look It's a docu-series on her life Cool so it's not a movie I've seen this film before But I want to know why This didn't do well because I loved this
[01:11:10] Film rewatched it, loved it Again Dungeons and Dragons Honor Among Thieves Oh so the movie didn't do poorly It actually did pretty decently And it's probably gonna get a sequel I was hoping it would No it was good I actually love this film
[01:11:28] And I watched it again and I'm like Chris Pine is fantastic in this Michelle Rodriguez is fun There's an emotional chord to this film It's a world that they created that I was happy to live in Didn't you see it and you were kind of grumpy?
[01:11:40] You know what that does influence a lot of And you know what For the listeners of the podcast Must think that I'm a pretty grumpy guy I'm gonna say you should probably go back To last November in any movie you saw that year prior
[01:11:52] You should go back and rewatch I feel like sometimes you bring It was September but yeah you're prior You do bring a bad mood Fuck you that's funny You bring a bad mood to certain movies If you've had a rough day You bring that with you and sometimes
[01:12:08] You don't enjoy things that you should enjoy That's why I try my best to wait Until I'm actually in an okay movie No because Nate's right, Nate go on So I was looking this up and you know 91% on Rotten Tomatoes And there were film critics that saw
[01:12:22] The film before it was released That watched the audience It seems like everyone mostly except Ben Everyone that sees this film enjoys this film And I don't know why people wouldn't see the film It was fun But Brad said it was not a bomb
[01:12:36] Well it wasn't a bomb But it didn't do gangbusters It made back its money essentially They were expecting it to be a bigger hit It deserved it to be But no it's hilarious It is a great fantasy action comedy Do you know the nerdy guy's name?
[01:12:54] The nerdy guy The tall African American He's great Hugh Grant's fantastic in this Hugh Grant's fantastic in a lot of things I think he's a great future I watched The Gentleman Yes you did Gosh I'm sorry guys And it's the second time I watch it
[01:13:16] And Colin Farrell is the best part of that movie But Hugh Grant is not far behind And done, sorry Nate So anyway if you've not seen this film It's because of the Olympics and stuff like this But I did rewatch this film with my son It's fantastic
[01:13:30] Watch it, enjoy it Hopefully like Brad's right And they get a sequel because they should Dungeons 2 Dragons If you need to be convinced It's written by John Francis Daly and Jonathan Goldstein Who wrote Indirected Game Night So we're running out of time to talk about trailers
[01:13:46] But is there anything coming out in August I need to know about? Are we done with movies? No I'm kidding somewhere in Brock Bross You're not excited for this I'm very excited for Alien Romulus It's freaking terrifying I've heard nothing but good things
[01:14:02] I would be so pissed at you guys if you use science The red band trailer for that Gave me chills It's hard to watch I like Alien and the Aliens I'm not That's only two I've seen Hey guess what, you're fine Don't even worry about it
[01:14:20] You could still see Alien Romulus Because Alien Romulus takes place between Alien and Aliens It's a standalone kind of film Including a lot of the I am actually excited for this It looks terrifying It makes me happy for Alien fans For you guys
[01:14:36] But this doesn't need to be shared with Nate It will be though Oh I love it Anything else? That's all that I know off the top of my head We're getting into that dead zone where There's a little window between this And award season
[01:14:52] We'll probably get some fun horror movies Maybe like one or two But also it's a little worse this year Because the strikes kind of fucked everything up as well And I mean that As far as the studio fucked up By letting the strikes go on so long
[01:15:06] It's not the fault of the strikes That's why it's hard right now To find good trailers to watch too Because there's not a lot of stuff going on Yeah, it's slim pickings It's a pretty Unfulfilling end to the summer
[01:15:20] And there's probably not going to be a lot of exciting stuff until Awards season begins Reagan comes out this month Oh good Is that a political film about Ronald Reagan? Yeah with Dennis Quaid playing Ronald Reagan What does Beetlejuice Beetlejuice come out?
[01:15:34] That comes out in September I think See how am I looking for that? I know that you're cautiously optimistic on that Yeah no I'm hopeful September has some better films Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has Transformers 1 I'm looking forward to You're not looking for Transformers 1 Animation looks like shit
[01:15:52] I will say The Wild Robot I can't wait to see I'm very excited for Wild Robot Paramount Pictures did do a screening For Transformers 1 two months ahead of release Studios only do that when they think they got something Gold on their hands
[01:16:06] The early reactions out of the movie is that apparently it's very good However Here we go Excuse me What is being celebrated are the things that I didn't particularly like about the trailer People said the animation is great It's not because it looks like it was Nickelodeon in 2004
[01:16:24] No they're trying to do an animation style Well the style is trash You said the same thing about Don't make the joke again You fucking asshole I'm sorry I don't think the humor was particularly great I heard this joke You said the same thing about
[01:16:42] Spider-Man into the spider version You said the same thing about Teenage Mutant Turtles Mutant Mayhem I've been kind of with you If you need a downspout come on down to the poor Sleevels gutter I'll take care of your gutters I'll also eat some ribs
[01:16:55] If you got ribs lying around I don't like that you're that mean about it Do you listen to Harry Carey with a weird filter? You went right to the ribs I just went with ribs I know how much Ben loves ribs I was okay with the joke buddy
[01:17:09] Bye everybody bye Oh we're not done? Oh cool Yeah full drink there I'm gonna drink it and be sad What else is new Welcome to Monday Night at Cosplay Conowitz Thank you so much for coming by We love having you on If you guys if you're excited
