Ben, Brad, and Nate are here, and wouldn't you know it, they've gone and watched some movies. Nate went all in with Rounders. Brad is interested in running drugs after The Mule, and Ben chuckled and buckled at Anyone But You, but he neglected to watch his latest assignment because, of course, he did.
Alex Pappas is also here, and he's been soaking up the last breath of DC Comics movies before James Gunn takes over. We've also seen some other good stuff, like Monkey Man, Abigail, and Challengers. Plus, we talk about the trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine (LET'S FUCKING GO...TO THE MOVIES!), and Ben has a fun game for us to play, so stick around if you enjoy that! Do as the Minions would do and banana up the volume for the show!

[00:00:00] Hey everybody, it's another episode of Go Flix Yourself.
[00:00:19] My name is Ben Conowitz and with me as always is the Phil Helmuth to my Doyle Brunson, Brad
[00:00:26] Vernoman.
[00:00:27] Hey that's me, what?
[00:00:28] Who the fuck are you talking about?
[00:00:31] Johnny Chan to my Doyle Brunson, Nate Lauchs.
[00:00:35] How you doing?
[00:00:36] Oh, what a unique frame of reference.
[00:00:39] And the Phil Ivy to my Doyle Brunson, Alex Pappas.
[00:00:43] Wow, what an honor.
[00:00:45] Does anybody know?
[00:00:46] Are these golfers?
[00:00:47] They're professional poker players.
[00:00:48] They are professional poker players.
[00:00:49] I knew some of them sounded familiar.
[00:00:50] Yeah, that's me.
[00:00:51] Doyle Brunson is the king of Texas Hold'em.
[00:00:54] Doyle Brunson.
[00:00:55] Yeah, what about the Doyle Barnsnift?
[00:00:58] No, Phil, tell me what the asshole is.
[00:01:01] He is.
[00:01:02] Who are you?
[00:01:03] Who was he?
[00:01:04] I'm Johnny Chan.
[00:01:05] Johnny Chan.
[00:01:06] Johnny Chan, famous from Rounders and Phil Ivy.
[00:01:11] Like the Kobe Bryant of poker I think is probably how I would describe it.
[00:01:15] So dead?
[00:01:16] No.
[00:01:17] Bam!
[00:01:18] No, black.
[00:01:19] He's black.
[00:01:20] He is the black guy that plays poker.
[00:01:23] Yeah, he's very, very good at it.
[00:01:25] So he could have been like, I don't know, 85% of the NBA also.
[00:01:27] It was like that one guy in that Truck Boy video.
[00:01:30] So the one guy in poker.
[00:01:32] Well that's just inside baseball.
[00:01:33] Have our listeners listen to that yet?
[00:01:34] Yeah, you guys should listen to Tom Hardy do the truck.
[00:01:39] No, Boy Hardy.
[00:01:40] Oh yeah, sorry, Boy Hardy.
[00:01:41] What's the guy's name?
[00:01:42] Just Hardy.
[00:01:43] I don't know.
[00:01:44] It's in your new favorite song.
[00:01:45] Just Hardy.
[00:01:46] It was in your YouTube algorithm.
[00:01:47] Listen, I'm not going to say that I don't listen to it.
[00:01:50] He's played it for me two out of the three times that I've been here.
[00:01:54] Guess fucking what I saw tonight, Brad, playing it again.
[00:01:57] You were tapping your foot right along.
[00:01:58] First of all, I'm always tapping my foot because it's a nervous tick I have.
[00:02:01] Oh, bullshit.
[00:02:02] It was on beat with Hardy's Truck Day.
[00:02:04] I can't resist rhythm.
[00:02:05] You're damn right.
[00:02:06] I'm sorry, that's just the next hit in me.
[00:02:07] Brad Oman says Hardy has rhythm.
[00:02:10] Oh it was catchy.
[00:02:11] Like herpes.
[00:02:12] Yep.
[00:02:13] Listen.
[00:02:14] I can't get rid of it.
[00:02:15] Go listen to this terrible song and see if you can stop your eyes from rolling at
[00:02:19] the back of your head.
[00:02:20] You know what?
[00:02:21] I met Phil Ivy in Vegas for real.
[00:02:22] And you sir are no Phil Ivy.
[00:02:24] I met Phil Ivy.
[00:02:27] And I wanted to get an autograph from my buddy Nick who's a huge poker player
[00:02:32] and so I-
[00:02:33] Phil can't read or write.
[00:02:34] Well, actually, it's a funny story.
[00:02:36] So I met this guy playing Texas Hold'em with a couple of guys and then Phil Ivy walks over.
[00:02:44] Now this guy is a multimillionaire and he's known for playing cards.
[00:02:47] We're playing at a $200 limit table.
[00:02:50] He was there to meet some business guys that he had met previously.
[00:02:54] And so they stand up and I had been at this table with these guys for like four
[00:02:56] hours.
[00:02:57] So we became buddies.
[00:02:59] Do you want to come with us?
[00:03:00] I'm like fuck yeah, I want to come with you and Phil Ivy.
[00:03:01] What's he going to do?
[00:03:03] So we're going to go over to the craps table.
[00:03:04] Phil Ivy takes out, we're at the Mandalay Bay.
[00:03:06] He takes out $10,000 in Bellagio chips and just hands them to the person.
[00:03:10] And they're like oh I'm sorry sir.
[00:03:11] And then the pit boss comes over like what the fuck are you doing?
[00:03:14] And takes the money.
[00:03:15] He says we got it Phil.
[00:03:16] It's fine.
[00:03:17] So he starts playing craps and he's betting 10 grand a hand.
[00:03:20] Immediately the table goes from a $15 limit to a $50 limit or a minimum.
[00:03:24] And crazy.
[00:03:25] And then it's the day of the National Basketball Championship.
[00:03:29] So he's going to go back to the Bellagio and play high limit cards against some guys that
[00:03:35] are just in town because he's a whale but whatever.
[00:03:37] Whale killer.
[00:03:38] And so all this happens and I go hey Phil before you go would you mind writing a note
[00:03:43] to my buddy who plays poker and he goes sure.
[00:03:45] And he wrote to Nick do good.
[00:03:48] And I was like oh okay well that's.
[00:03:52] Yeah you know that's that's a good moral lesson.
[00:03:54] That's not really right.
[00:03:56] What exactly did you want him to write?
[00:03:58] Yeah what did you expect him to like put like an epitaph like you're a royal flush.
[00:04:02] Hey Nick never bet on the river like and still they hope you do good like hope you do well.
[00:04:08] I don't know just maybe no maybe he's telling you it was the grammar.
[00:04:11] Oh yeah well because I took it as hey Nick do good as in put good things out into the
[00:04:16] world.
[00:04:17] No no no no no yeah no it was like like do good at do good at poker.
[00:04:21] Like oh I thought it was more like yeah just be a good person.
[00:04:23] Yeah do good.
[00:04:24] It feels like do good.
[00:04:25] I'm like well okay all right Phil you know how do you know though because if it's just do
[00:04:29] good that's up to interpretation.
[00:04:32] I mean I don't remember the exact phrase but it was in context like he said like I hope
[00:04:36] you do good or whatever it was.
[00:04:38] Okay well thanks for listening to our poker podcast.
[00:04:40] Poker cast.
[00:04:41] Hope you're having a lot of fun.
[00:04:43] Go chips yourself.
[00:04:44] Do you think there's a podcast called poker pals.
[00:04:46] Probably.
[00:04:47] But it is now.
[00:04:48] But you should look up Phil Helm.
[00:04:50] Card comrades.
[00:04:51] Phil Helm is being a prick.
[00:04:54] Deck dicks.
[00:04:55] You'll see that and then that's Brad.
[00:04:56] That's the whole point of this.
[00:04:58] Shuffle shimmies.
[00:04:59] The old shuffle shuffle cast.
[00:05:02] Another name for herpes.
[00:05:05] We got it.
[00:05:06] There's chingles.
[00:05:07] The shuffle shimmies.
[00:05:08] Hey Brad let me ask you a question.
[00:05:09] Let me ask you a question.
[00:05:10] What's he doing?
[00:05:11] Hey Brad Brad Brad.
[00:05:12] What's your sponsor microwave popcorn.
[00:05:17] That's inside baseball.
[00:05:19] What are you doing.
[00:05:20] Now you have to explain yourself.
[00:05:21] I have a bag of microwave popcorn in my hands.
[00:05:24] What's the brand.
[00:05:25] It just says microwave popcorn.
[00:05:26] Cool.
[00:05:27] It's probably from Aldi's I don't know.
[00:05:28] Where'd you get that Motel 8?
[00:05:30] Motel 6.
[00:05:31] Super 8.
[00:05:32] There you go.
[00:05:33] Shit.
[00:05:34] I'm not gonna ask a thing anymore.
[00:05:35] Hey I'm gonna edit that.
[00:05:36] But I'm gonna bring it up nine more times so you have to edit it every single time.
[00:05:41] You better let me ask you something.
[00:05:43] Yes I'm all in.
[00:05:46] What's your favorite shirt.
[00:05:48] That's probably my Minion shirt.
[00:05:50] Is it this stupid fucking Minion shirt you're wearing right now?
[00:05:52] I love Kevin.
[00:05:53] By the way where did you get this.
[00:05:56] At a Walmart in Florida and I'm not making that up.
[00:05:59] You could have just said at a Walmart.
[00:06:00] A lot of people assumed it was probably Florida.
[00:06:02] I'm not joking I was on vacation with my friends at Bernanke's we went to the Universal Studios.
[00:06:06] Someone stole his clothes and it's the only shirt he could find.
[00:06:09] I thought it would be hilarious.
[00:06:10] Nope.
[00:06:11] That'd be giving him too much weight.
[00:06:12] That's a good point.
[00:06:13] Wake up before everybody and just wear this and also they sold like the Minions
[00:06:17] goggles.
[00:06:18] So I put those on and I bought a Minion's mug and I had my coffee in the morning and
[00:06:21] I was just standing in the doorway just with my glasses on and with this shirt on and it's
[00:06:25] way too early.
[00:06:26] And so the kids are like what the hell is going on with their teenagers.
[00:06:29] What the fuck is this.
[00:06:31] I thought it was a pretty good practical joke but then I kept the shirt.
[00:06:34] Cocaine's a hell of a drug.
[00:06:35] Oh it's a drink.
[00:06:36] Then stopped drinking started doing coke.
[00:06:39] And just so that everyone is aware too this is a bright yellow Minion shirt where
[00:06:44] the face is the body and it's just right over his old gut.
[00:06:49] But also though Ben's nips don't match up with the eyes which is really drug-
[00:06:53] I noticed that too.
[00:06:54] And honestly I'm disappointed.
[00:06:55] Nate brought that up about four times so I don't know what your obsession is with
[00:06:58] that.
[00:06:59] People don't understand that.
[00:07:00] Brad and I often comment on Ben's pictures.
[00:07:02] If you guys follow Ben on Facebook you'll notice in every one of Ben's pictures.
[00:07:07] He's ready to cut glass.
[00:07:08] I have sensitive stand up-ish nipples.
[00:07:12] Put it on his tombstone.
[00:07:15] I have sensitive stand up-ish nipples.
[00:07:18] What are those things like.
[00:07:20] The fuck is the word stand up-ish.
[00:07:22] Are those things like two inches.
[00:07:27] Yeah it's like a suckling pig.
[00:07:29] They're just fucking enormous.
[00:07:31] It looks like your tits are wearing divo hats.
[00:07:36] Pinocchio is just buried in my tit.
[00:07:38] And I tell a lie and my nipples get longer and harder.
[00:07:42] But it is every picture.
[00:07:44] I don't want to fuck Kevin.
[00:07:46] Ben what's wrong with your boobs.
[00:07:48] Why do you have two tiny radens on each one.
[00:07:51] Say raisins or radens.
[00:07:52] Raden from Mortal Kombat.
[00:07:54] Yeah the problem is the areola is the size of a large pepperoni as well.
[00:08:00] And so that is-
[00:08:01] At least it's not salami though.
[00:08:03] Imagine if you have a pizza and you put it through an oven and it's got a big piece of pepperoni
[00:08:08] and then you've got a piece of Italian sausage right in the middle of it.
[00:08:12] And that grease pool that would form.
[00:08:14] That's what my nipples look like.
[00:08:16] That greasy and it's just nice crumbles.
[00:08:20] Baby let me eat some more.
[00:08:22] Is it about having sex with minions?
[00:08:24] No.
[00:08:25] Let's talk about that.
[00:08:26] What no no no no.
[00:08:27] Let's talk about the sponsor.
[00:08:29] Ben what's your favorite barbecue meat.
[00:08:36] If I say smokehouse brisket are you going to get mad at me?
[00:08:40] I mean why would I be mad I love brisket.
[00:08:43] Wait is there like a smokehouse type of brand or what.
[00:08:47] A musky barbecue.
[00:08:49] I mean you can also cook it in the oven but that's more about it.
[00:08:51] Why are you coming up with these extra descriptors.
[00:08:53] I don't know why you'd be embarrassed if a smokehouse brisket.
[00:08:55] Yeah and also a musky barbecue is not a meat.
[00:08:59] It's a flavor.
[00:09:01] Oh I love making.
[00:09:02] I love cooking musky barbecue.
[00:09:04] That's what I love.
[00:09:06] Have you guys had musky barbecue?
[00:09:08] I catch a lot of mosquitoes and I eat them.
[00:09:12] Alex how about you.
[00:09:14] You are a barbecue connoisseur.
[00:09:16] You are a barbecue chef.
[00:09:18] I'm a barbecue kind of wit.
[00:09:20] Alex shut the fuck up.
[00:09:22] Alex.
[00:09:24] Wait hold on.
[00:09:27] That was good.
[00:09:29] Alex you were in the family business of Northside barbecue here in the board.
[00:09:31] I was.
[00:09:33] What's your favorite barbecue meat.
[00:09:35] You know I'm going to say chicken.
[00:09:37] I love barbecue and a chicken.
[00:09:39] Do you really like the chicken more than brisket?
[00:09:41] I do actually I had time to think about it
[00:09:44] and the smoked chicken wing is actually my favorite.
[00:09:46] Is it really interesting.
[00:09:48] I do like a good chicken.
[00:09:50] Yeah the smoked chicken wing is my favorite.
[00:09:52] Nate what about you.
[00:09:54] My favorite meat is and has always been Ben's.
[00:09:58] I thought you were going to say a bland boneless skinless chicken breast.
[00:10:04] It's just my favorite smoked meat.
[00:10:06] My favorite meat is Ben's greasy pepperoni.
[00:10:08] Yeah.
[00:10:10] Well guys.
[00:10:12] Hey beets and tits get over here.
[00:10:14] That was my nickname in college.
[00:10:16] Nate Lux and your beets and tits from now on.
[00:10:18] Everyone's going to have some of this treat now.
[00:10:20] You're going to know what kind of chip it is because
[00:10:22] it's the only chip that comes in a tennis can.
[00:10:24] Do you guys remember ruffles?
[00:10:26] Think about the last time we had Pringles on this show.
[00:10:30] And Nate ate almost the whole can.
[00:10:32] Oh it was ketchup.
[00:10:34] The ketchup and fries Pringle so damn much.
[00:10:36] I was really jealous because I also like ketchup potato chips.
[00:10:39] These taste like mosquitoes.
[00:10:41] Canada is correct.
[00:10:43] You son of a bitch.
[00:10:45] You don't even know anything about mosquitoes.
[00:10:47] I love that that's your complaint.
[00:10:49] You mother bugger you don't even know anything about mosquitoes.
[00:10:51] Not sound.
[00:10:53] Everyone have a nice little crunch.
[00:10:55] Little crunch factory here.
[00:10:57] Oh boy.
[00:10:59] Crunch them up.
[00:11:01] You like these crunchables?
[00:11:03] It's subtle.
[00:11:05] Is there any potato in actual Pringles?
[00:11:07] Yeah so what they do is the crisp right it's not a chip.
[00:11:09] So they pulverize the potato down into a mash.
[00:11:11] And then they shape the mash and then they dry it.
[00:11:13] Yeah it says dried potatoes for an ingredient.
[00:11:15] Yeah so yeah it's like a freeze dried product.
[00:11:17] I was hoping that we were going to be way too much.
[00:11:19] Wet potatoes was your nickname in college.
[00:11:21] Hey is wet potatoes coming tonight?
[00:11:23] I love that guy.
[00:11:25] So what do you guys think this is?
[00:11:27] Spuds McDrunkie is he coming?
[00:11:29] No you can't make up your own name.
[00:11:31] What's a barbecue potato chip?
[00:11:33] I mean the chip itself hasn't been barbecued.
[00:11:35] It's got barbecue flavor.
[00:11:37] Yeah it's got barbecue flavor.
[00:11:39] Spuds McDrunkie.
[00:11:41] We're doing a different thing now.
[00:11:43] Me and Kevin are going upstairs.
[00:11:45] Is that your penis?
[00:11:47] Kevin on my shirt you fucking idiot.
[00:11:49] He's never seen the Minions.
[00:11:51] Also yes.
[00:11:53] My dick does look like a Minion.
[00:11:55] I've seen the Minions.
[00:11:57] You've seen the Minions movie?
[00:11:59] I've seen the first Minions movie and I've seen the three despicable Minions movies.
[00:12:01] Okay because you don't like Minions.
[00:12:03] I'm not the fan.
[00:12:05] I am the fan.
[00:12:07] I'm wearing these shirts so I fucking better be.
[00:12:09] But you did it as a joke though.
[00:12:11] Yeah but I really do like the Minions.
[00:12:13] Okay so this flavor of chip.
[00:12:15] Is Texas Barbecue Brisket.
[00:12:17] Has this show been on the rails at all?
[00:12:19] Not since you stopped drinking.
[00:12:21] I miss it.
[00:12:23] Yeah Texas Barbecue Brisket.
[00:12:25] The barbecue flavor is good.
[00:12:27] The brisket has like a smoky flavor to it.
[00:12:29] But like Alex said it is subtle.
[00:12:31] But I like it better than any of the other barbecue Pringles chips actually.
[00:12:33] You can find this at Kroger's
[00:12:35] and their sister stores like Smith's
[00:12:37] and the other ones that are on the market.
[00:12:39] And they have a lot of different flavors.
[00:12:41] They have a lot of different flavors.
[00:12:43] But like there are a lot of different flavors.
[00:12:45] And then there's a lot of different flavors.
[00:12:47] There's a lot of different flavors.
[00:12:49] Like I mean Kroger's sister stores
[00:12:51] like Smith's and King's Super's
[00:12:53] and Ralph's and stuff like that.
[00:12:55] Just look up what Kroger's sister stores are.
[00:12:57] How many more sister stores do you know of Kroger.
[00:12:59] Yeah that's a lot.
[00:13:01] I knew Ralph's and that was it.
[00:13:03] I mean it's because of Brad's junk.
[00:13:05] Look at Brad's junk if you want to check out junk food reviews.
[00:13:07] You posted on these on Brad's show?
[00:13:09] No I was saving them because I didn't want to spoil them
[00:13:11] It just depends on how eGram, how new it is, how much I think people will like it.
[00:13:16] So fuck you Kevin.
[00:13:17] Oh my god I'm so sorry.
[00:13:18] Stupid minion dick ass.
[00:13:20] Hey Alex what's the last movie you saw buddy?
[00:13:22] I watched three movies recently.
[00:13:25] One, two, three, three movies!
[00:13:28] Three!
[00:13:29] That's right.
[00:13:31] After this, over the past weekend I watched all three.
[00:13:33] Hold on guys, I'm sorry.
[00:13:34] Nate.
[00:13:35] One, two, three.
[00:13:36] Nate that was the worst fucking count impression I've ever heard in my head.
[00:13:40] I had to get in there really quickly though.
[00:13:41] It was quick.
[00:13:42] He sounded old.
[00:13:43] He was sick.
[00:13:44] I am sick.
[00:13:45] The count has late stage aids.
[00:13:50] You know what it sounds like?
[00:13:52] Why did you jump straight to aids?
[00:13:56] The most depressing.
[00:13:58] And it's late stage.
[00:14:00] He's got lesions and bruises.
[00:14:02] Also I'm not sure late stage aids even gets that bad anymore.
[00:14:07] Stay out of your medical science man.
[00:14:10] Because they don't let it get to the stage.
[00:14:13] I love it, it's not that this doesn't get there.
[00:14:17] It's like the new version of late stage aids.
[00:14:20] He's not that bad!
[00:14:22] He's not that bad!
[00:14:24] Just ask my buddy the count!
[00:14:28] He's gonna make it.
[00:14:31] Okay.
[00:14:32] My white T-cell count is one.
[00:14:35] Jesus.
[00:14:41] Yeah so those three movies.
[00:14:43] What movie did you watch Alex?
[00:14:45] I watched the last three Warner Brothers DC offerings before James Gunn gets to do it.
[00:14:53] Not only the most recent but the last three.
[00:14:56] So I watched Blue Beetle, I watched The Flash and I watched Aquaking.
[00:15:03] Aquaking is my favorite mattress by the way.
[00:15:07] I love on Comedy Central our Cartoon Network when they used to do Aquaking Water Force.
[00:15:14] Exactly.
[00:15:15] Aquaking Water Force.
[00:15:17] My favorite show.
[00:15:19] No Aquaman.
[00:15:21] It wasn't as good as Hector's Laboratory though.
[00:15:23] Remember when it had wet potato?
[00:15:26] And Stimpy.
[00:15:28] Wet potato.
[00:15:30] What did you think of those three DC movies?
[00:15:32] So Blue Beetle I thought felt almost exactly like watching a 90's superhero movie.
[00:15:39] Like it had that vibe across the board.
[00:15:41] Nostalgia without...
[00:15:42] In a good way.
[00:15:43] Yeah nostalgic without necessarily like trying for it I think.
[00:15:47] Like this is just the movie that we made and it feels like that which was great.
[00:15:50] It was fun.
[00:15:51] Aquaman was really bad.
[00:15:54] I mean it was a disaster.
[00:15:55] Yeah I heard it was a mess.
[00:15:56] It really is.
[00:15:57] And like so surprising too because I think that Aquaman was my favorite DC offering.
[00:16:02] I liked the first one.
[00:16:03] I really did like the first one.
[00:16:04] Because it was super sci-fi, it was super crazy.
[00:16:06] Did you feel like they changed the tone of this too?
[00:16:09] It was like they watched Guardians of the Galaxy and they were like let's make some funny jokes.
[00:16:14] Yeah it did feel like that.
[00:16:16] It felt like Jason Momoa got a lot more say in what his character was going to be doing in this movie.
[00:16:25] Maybe he shouldn't have to say.
[00:16:27] Spend your capital if you have it.
[00:16:28] He's had a certain unearned confidence.
[00:16:30] But like yeah it just didn't work for me.
[00:16:36] And there's so much talking about what has already happened that we spend no time with.
[00:16:43] There's a baby now and like now the baby is missing and we care about that because it's a baby I guess.
[00:16:50] I wonder if because the if Jason Momoa had more input and then the studio goes ooh like they did with the Thor character.
[00:16:58] And so they're not going to say sure let's do that with this one as well.
[00:17:01] I can see why there was no breaks put on it.
[00:17:03] Right.
[00:17:04] And maybe it needed some breaks.
[00:17:06] And then also I watched The Flash which I loved.
[00:17:09] I think that The Flash since Endgame is the second best live action film I think.
[00:17:14] Really?
[00:17:15] And so Spider-Man.
[00:17:16] Spider-Man No Way Home I think is my number one post Endgame.
[00:17:20] And I think The Flash is number two.
[00:17:21] I think The Flash.
[00:17:22] The special effects in The Flash are Porta Midland I think pretty much across the board.
[00:17:28] I will I will say I think it I think that only applies to certain scenes.
[00:17:32] Yeah but those scenes are so bad.
[00:17:34] Yeah whatever.
[00:17:35] Prano sphere.
[00:17:36] Any time that his digital mask is on and like his face is elongated out of his mask.
[00:17:42] That's not a great look.
[00:17:43] But very well I thought it was really well written.
[00:17:46] I thought it was very funny.
[00:17:48] Ezra Miller acts against himself throughout most of the film and does that.
[00:17:53] And most of his life too.
[00:17:55] Yeah and and really does a stand up job.
[00:17:59] I think that Michael Keaton does a great job.
[00:18:02] For me he's the best thing in the film.
[00:18:04] Oh yeah I agree with Nate.
[00:18:05] I also think that the ending is like a really interesting commentary on like hey maybe
[00:18:11] the multiverse isn't the best storytelling decision superhero films can make.
[00:18:17] And like when the climax of that film hit it really felt like man if we if you guys keep mixing all your sauces together
[00:18:26] everything's going to fall apart and it's going to suck.
[00:18:29] Like because that's what's happening in this film.
[00:18:31] Like all these multiverses are smashing into each other.
[00:18:34] And like boy it sounded like it was going to be awesome at the beginning right.
[00:18:36] Like you're going to get to hang out with your Michael Keaton Batman and Christopher Reeve Superman is going to be
[00:18:41] here and then who knows what I'm like.
[00:18:43] But at the same time he's dead.
[00:18:45] If that was really their goal they're not really doing a good job of having their cake and not eating it too.
[00:18:50] Well the entire sequence in the chrono bowl is just a whole bowl of wink berries like yeah you know about this other DC movie.
[00:18:57] Here they are here they come.
[00:18:59] But I thought that I thought that it was interesting that they built their the destruction of that of their movie universe on that.
[00:19:07] On that like each one of these references is going to be another thing that's going to smash into this reality and destroy it.
[00:19:14] It's not going to improve anything.
[00:19:15] Yeah nothing here is getting better because we've mixed all of these paints together.
[00:19:20] And I thought that that was kind of I don't know if it was intentional at all.
[00:19:24] But I certainly read it that way having experienced all of these years of superhero movies now and especially being so deep into the Marvel multiverse.
[00:19:33] Where it was just like to me it very much felt like a like they were having their cake and eating it.
[00:19:38] But I was allowing them to have their cake.
[00:19:40] It was like no I can kind of see your point here is that this does kind of become a wet potato of a concept.
[00:19:48] If it's all we do if all we keep doing is referencing other universes and having other universes be the problem hashtag what potato then what are we really doing.
[00:19:58] It's already trending.
[00:20:00] I think the manner which they include in the proves that that they don't think that that was like that wasn't the kind of commentary they were going.
[00:20:07] No probably not.
[00:20:08] But but I do like that reading.
[00:20:10] But I like I said and I even outside of that reading I really enjoyed the flesh.
[00:20:14] I enjoyed it way more than I expected to.
[00:20:16] It's a fun movie.
[00:20:17] I thought it was way funnier than I expected to be tired of the multiverse right in general.
[00:20:22] No well the multi the multiverse has become more of a problem than a feature with the exception of Spider-Man No Way Home.
[00:20:28] No Marvel movie or series has effectively utilized the multiverse to its full potential.
[00:20:33] It only makes narratives more confusing to me like I'm not I'm not I'm not I'm not even talking about the confusing factor.
[00:20:39] I know no one has done anything with it.
[00:20:41] He's calling it dumb.
[00:20:42] The only the only movie I think that has done anything interesting enough to warrant using the multiverse is Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse.
[00:20:51] And into the Spider-Verse kind of started it initially but across the Spider-Verse does it in a way where they're critiquing the idea of like what it means to like be in your own universe and be a certain kind of character.
[00:21:04] Like the idea of like what Spider-Man is and whether or not like certain core elements of that character need to exist in order for that character to be Spider-Man.
[00:21:13] Well we've seen so far obviously with Doctor Strange and the multiverse of Madness and with the Flash is you're getting snippets of these characters from other dimensions.
[00:21:24] Yeah but they are all in the one where the action is taking place right across the Spider-Verse you get more of a backstory on each one of them and their worlds.
[00:21:33] Yeah and you're right they can do that with animation obviously it's a lot hard well these days with the budget it's not necessarily hard to do that I wish they would though.
[00:21:42] Because if I'm gonna see let's say for example if you're gonna see they just they get Robert Downey Jr. back and say we're gonna do a multiverse Iron Man movie and you're gonna play yourself in five different ones.
[00:21:54] I want to spend 20% of the time almost in each one to see how that builds.
[00:21:58] Well I think that that could be done and done effectively.
[00:22:00] Well so the other thing that you just said that kind of ties into like what Marvel's other big problem is and the multiverse is only complicating that is that the movies now they all still have to be interconnected.
[00:22:15] And so now the Marvel Cinematic Universe has started to kind of create a problem because they constantly think they have to bring in these other characters for like quick bits or moments stuff like that.
[00:22:26] And we're like oh hey you know this character now guess what now they're over here and here and like the area they're interacting and like sure that was fun to build up to it and do the Avengers.
[00:22:35] And like have it build up even more into Avengers Endgame but like we've seen that though we get it and so like if you're gonna do the multiverse then do the weirdest stuff you can with the multiverse like get crazy with it.
[00:22:46] You're gonna have to you gotta escalate.
[00:22:47] Yeah but now right now all they're doing is kind of like playing it safe and just having characters from the universe pop in for a minute and then like in multiverse of madness they're there and then dead.
[00:22:58] And now without Kang being in Marvel stuff it really makes that whole narrative.
[00:23:03] What happened to the drama we've done that joke before.
[00:23:05] So no the other part that Brad touched on they died right no death is now permanent because fans well that's just that's comic books.
[00:23:15] No I know but like when you're bringing that into the into the big screen.
[00:23:18] Oh for sure.
[00:23:19] And when you're talking about actors.
[00:23:20] Yeah.
[00:23:21] Like oh man Robert Downey Jr. is dead he's never gonna play that and now you can watch that movie go oh they'll probably bring it back.
[00:23:27] It's not as impactful.
[00:23:29] Yeah.
[00:23:30] Yeah it might not be from C138 or whatever but it's going to be from M1430.
[00:23:34] Yeah I will never be mad if they bring Robert down.
[00:23:37] No neither I'm not set to you're missing the point.
[00:23:40] I disagree.
[00:23:41] I disagree though.
[00:23:42] Yeah I'm with Brad.
[00:23:43] It depends on when and how if they did it like this year you know in something then like I feel like that's going to be cheap and it's going to be too soon.
[00:23:51] Like you have to let things like that like just re- just soak for a while you know like if you want to bring Robert down and do it back do it in 10 years.
[00:23:58] Like oh yeah wow shit Robert Downey Jr. back oh my god that's amazing.
[00:24:02] If you were gonna do something interesting right now with Tony Stark as a character it's doing a multiverse version of Tony Stark where you bring in Tom Cruise is Tony Stark
[00:24:09] because like as the story goes.
[00:24:11] No I don't want to see Tom Cruise.
[00:24:12] No no there's a reason for it though because Tom Cruise was someone that they wanted for Iron Man and they didn't do it so and a lot of people know that so if you bring in Tom Cruise and have him play a multiverse version of Tony Stark everyone would be like oh shit that's awesome.
[00:24:25] I feel like the Oompa Loompa of Tony Starks because he's only five foot one.
[00:24:30] You got Robert Downey Jr. come back but he plays Wolverine.
[00:24:34] We just changed character.
[00:24:36] I want to see Danny DeVito as Wolverine.
[00:24:38] Watch that too.
[00:24:39] So anyway I stopped Blastin.
[00:24:41] Ew.
[00:24:43] We had those superhero movies quality.
[00:24:45] Yeah.
[00:24:46] Started to drop.
[00:24:47] Have you seen anything else Mr. Pamsat?
[00:24:49] No I really haven't.
[00:24:51] Last time I was here I watched like a cool art film I think I watched 3000 years of longing so this time I watched straight.
[00:24:58] Good for you.
[00:24:59] Straight schlock.
[00:25:00] Hey uh Hinnate.
[00:25:01] What's the last movie you saw buddy?
[00:25:04] Well I saw one movie since our last podcast.
[00:25:06] I've been moving and I've got a lot of stuff going on right now because I've got a job but um.
[00:25:11] Wow.
[00:25:12] These are the only threats we don't have jobs.
[00:25:14] I mean I don't.
[00:25:15] I mean I quit everything.
[00:25:16] Quit drinking quit everything.
[00:25:18] Hey Ben.
[00:25:19] Yeah.
[00:25:20] Hey Ben.
[00:25:21] Yep.
[00:25:22] Have you ever tried to quit something?
[00:25:24] Go on.
[00:25:26] And knew that your future successes are contingent on quitting that thing but that thing keeps
[00:25:35] pulling you back in.
[00:25:36] Is this a fucking intervention?
[00:25:38] You shouldn't do it.
[00:25:40] Okay let's talk about my drinking I get it.
[00:25:43] Cause Matt Damon is trying to get out of gambling.
[00:25:46] Wow that's a.
[00:25:50] I was wondering if you actually watched the movie.
[00:25:52] Oh you saw The Martian.
[00:25:54] He's gambling on himself in that movie.
[00:25:56] So I watched the movie called.
[00:25:58] He pays off.
[00:25:59] Rounders.
[00:26:00] Rounders which is given to you by your good buddy Ben because it was his favorite movie
[00:26:04] for about five years running.
[00:26:06] What did you love it?
[00:26:07] What did you love about it?
[00:26:08] Oh my God.
[00:26:09] Cause he was.
[00:26:10] He felt like he was mad at you.
[00:26:11] Were you a gambling guy?
[00:26:12] Oh I was huge into poker in college.
[00:26:13] It came out that movie came out in 1998.
[00:26:15] Yeah.
[00:26:16] And.
[00:26:17] Not long, I mean it was one of his first movies.
[00:26:19] It was right after.
[00:26:20] So right after Goodwill Hunting he actually played in the World Series of Poker the
[00:26:23] real one to prepare for rounders.
[00:26:25] That was like his what he did.
[00:26:27] So he was probably the most famous person that was there as far as a celebrity
[00:26:31] playing in that World Series of Poker.
[00:26:33] Except for Derek Blancharn or.
[00:26:35] Phil Helmuth, Doyle Brunson.
[00:26:37] Edward Norton also played in that World Series of Poker.
[00:26:43] Now that's 98.
[00:26:44] Five years later in 2003 Chris Moneymaker won the World Series of Poker
[00:26:49] and he was an amateur and it was the first amateur to win it and it blew up
[00:26:52] and I played in the poker scene and in 2003 I was in college and so we watched
[00:26:56] rounders on repeat and we played cards nightly.
[00:27:00] I mean I drove to the casinos and played.
[00:27:02] I played hundreds if not thousands of hours of Texas Hold'em in college.
[00:27:07] That's what I did.
[00:27:08] I loved it.
[00:27:09] I loved every part of it.
[00:27:10] I would actually like to start getting a random poker game going around here again.
[00:27:14] I miss it.
[00:27:15] I loved it that much.
[00:27:16] That movie was fantastic to me.
[00:27:18] It's a lot of fun to watch and it stars John Malkovich, Matt Damon, Edward Norton
[00:27:25] and John Tatero.
[00:27:28] John Tatero.
[00:27:29] John Malkovich is the villain right?
[00:27:31] He's having so much fun in this film and it's fun to see him in this kind of
[00:27:36] film where he's still John Malkovich.
[00:27:38] He's still weird right?
[00:27:39] I don't know if John Malkovich you probably might know more because
[00:27:42] you know more about celebrities.
[00:27:43] Is John Malkovich a weird person in real life or is he just really good at playing?
[00:27:47] I pretty much have the same perception of him that he seems like he's just a weird guy.
[00:27:51] I'll share a dangerous way but just like a...
[00:27:54] No, maybe though.
[00:27:55] I'll share a story that I...
[00:27:57] Has he murdered?
[00:27:58] Maybe.
[00:27:59] He has.
[00:28:00] Matt Damon relayed to an interviewer at a certain point after Goodwill Hunting
[00:28:05] and after Rounders came out.
[00:28:07] He said that everybody they were doing Rounders and everybody was waiting for
[00:28:11] Malkovich because he hadn't been there yet and they're filming these scenes
[00:28:14] and they're all talking about it's gonna be great with John Malkovich.
[00:28:16] When John Malkovich is going so great.
[00:28:18] So they sit down and one of the first scenes that they shoot is a poker scene
[00:28:22] where he says pay that man his money or whatever.
[00:28:25] That's John Malkovich, a pretty famous line from that movie.
[00:28:28] And so let's say that that is the line.
[00:28:30] So they say action and Malkovich goes pay that man his money.
[00:28:35] He does the worst Russian accent ever.
[00:28:38] Yeah, he's got an accent.
[00:28:39] And so they yell cut and Matt says he's sitting there like kind of just
[00:28:42] staring at him and Malkovich leans in and sends something to the effect of like,
[00:28:46] yeah man I just do whatever I want or something like that where it's like,
[00:28:49] yeah I don't really know what I'm doing.
[00:28:51] I just fake it you know.
[00:28:52] He says I'm not a very good actor is what he says.
[00:28:54] Is that what it is?
[00:28:55] Yeah.
[00:28:56] So there was a I love old films or older films like this.
[00:28:59] It's weird to talk about this as an old film right because you loved it in college
[00:29:02] but the older films like this watching background characters that become famous.
[00:29:08] Sure.
[00:29:09] Do you remember that Christmas scene is in this?
[00:29:12] Is he at the is he one of the guys that is in the one of the poker rooms just playing?
[00:29:18] Yeah.
[00:29:19] And have you seen this one recently Brad?
[00:29:23] It's been a few years I think.
[00:29:24] And just seeing some of the because he must have been fairly young at this point right
[00:29:28] because he's not any older than Matt Damon I'm going to guess but
[00:29:32] but yeah seeing some of these people that are trying to make their way
[00:29:35] in Hollywood in the late 90s and get these little small bit parts
[00:29:40] and they end up having this great career.
[00:29:42] Similarly Christmas scene has a bit part and you've got mail as well.
[00:29:45] Oh really?
[00:29:46] Yeah he's one of the people who works in the Fox bookstore.
[00:29:49] The porn version?
[00:29:50] And someone asked him like about the about a book in there and he doesn't know
[00:29:54] and Meg Ryan happens to be nearby and she knows.
[00:29:57] No not the porn one okay.
[00:29:59] Found a book at Johnson's and.
[00:30:01] Yeah thank you James did not did I almost forgot I had a massive crush on her
[00:30:05] so I saw this film again I'm like oh no I remember.
[00:30:08] Like in Gretchen mole Gretchen mole.
[00:30:10] Gretchen moly.
[00:30:11] She's such a very cute cute cute cute cute two actresses that are probably
[00:30:15] aged out of Hollywood unfortunately right that aren't in as many roles
[00:30:19] as they were before.
[00:30:20] What who played the judge that he was clerking for whatever.
[00:30:24] Martin Landau.
[00:30:25] Yes Martin Landau and I remember watching that man wow he's very famous
[00:30:28] I remember watching rounders even though I didn't know who Martin Landau
[00:30:30] really was I just go he's got a lot of gravitas that guy is an actor
[00:30:34] but yeah watching Malcovich and then whoever his slubby sidekick is in that
[00:30:38] movie he's been in a lot of things just their interaction where he's
[00:30:42] he's got to give him the money in this net it's so it's just so fun
[00:30:46] to just watch and Malcovich chew Oreos and scenery so well in that
[00:30:52] film and ever Norton plays a true piece of shit.
[00:30:56] I mean he's a great actor and he's playing one of the scammy
[00:30:59] scummiest dudes and of course you've got this fresh-faced Matt Damon character
[00:31:04] who's coming off of the good guy right exactly it just it's a very great
[00:31:08] it's a great cast it really is that's what I was surprised by it.
[00:31:12] Tatero as Kanish is very very good as well and giving him like that subtle
[00:31:17] like don't get that MSG Mikey the fuck with your head like just
[00:31:20] these little subtle things that he does as a character driving the
[00:31:23] bread truck I just I really loved that movie it just it reminded me
[00:31:26] it though that when Matt Damon came around right.
[00:31:29] He was that kind of all American boy and you know kind of barely had
[00:31:35] facial hair.
[00:31:36] Obviously the fresh faced new car and you know miles and miles away from
[00:31:42] doing the Martian or these substantial you know Academy Award winning
[00:31:46] roles like that but yeah you might say he was Jason Bourne again.
[00:31:51] I mean before this he did save him private Ryan those are his films in
[00:31:56] 1998 are rounders and saving private Ryan 1997 chasing Amy do you guys
[00:32:01] remember chasing me.
[00:32:02] I do remember chasing.
[00:32:03] Oh yeah of course very bit part in chasing it's not even a supporting
[00:32:06] role it's like it would be a cameo if Matt Damon was famous.
[00:32:09] Yeah exactly.
[00:32:10] But what's interesting is Goodwill hunting came out and turned Matt Damon
[00:32:18] into a star but he had already shot saving private Ryan.
[00:32:21] Oh really so when he pops up and saving private Ryan it feels like oh shit Matt
[00:32:25] Damon's in this movie but when they made it's like who the fuck is Matt Damon
[00:32:28] you know that's that's incredible casting yeah then of course what about
[00:32:33] the Rainmaker I've not seen that Rainmaker is good.
[00:32:36] Yeah it's based on a John Grisham novel it's solid.
[00:32:38] I directed by Frank before Coppola.
[00:32:40] Yeah Rainmaker solid courage under fire he's got a he's a specialist
[00:32:44] in that film.
[00:32:45] Ed Norton was a piece of shit though.
[00:32:47] Oh yeah he's really he does great at that.
[00:32:51] Slickback hair sloppy steaks fucking fucking the toothpick in his mouth
[00:32:55] and ace up his sleeve you and so the movie does a very good job we won't
[00:33:00] talk about this forever I swear again but the movie does a great job
[00:33:03] of just telling you how much of a piece of shit he is right off the bat
[00:33:06] because he's leaking prison and he goes he's playing cards for
[00:33:10] cigarettes and he and they're like wait you're getting out give me
[00:33:13] the cigarettes and he's like nah man and he leaves with their
[00:33:16] cigarettes even knowing that they're gonna be in there for a long
[00:33:18] time he walks outside he just didn't smoke he throws him away
[00:33:21] that's just the kind of this is Edward Norton's fourth film ever
[00:33:25] really yeah he did a primal fear everyone says I love you the
[00:33:30] people verse Larry Flint then rounder Wow there you go and then
[00:33:34] his next film history X then Fight Club Wow talk about a true
[00:33:40] exactly the late 90s were good to Matt Damon and Edward Norton
[00:33:44] and get me that guy who plays a piece of shit I mean John
[00:33:48] Malcovich so how was he in a ton before that or no I mean
[00:33:52] Malcolm it's just been a working actor since no yeah I mean he
[00:33:55] was in he had already done of my son men by that point and
[00:33:58] so yeah yeah was that kind of his breakout role of my son
[00:34:01] man is big kind of break out I honestly don't know I don't
[00:34:04] either but John Malcovich hi it's me and John Malcovich
[00:34:09] yeah portrait of the lady oh he also did right before that
[00:34:12] Brad man the air mass Mulholland falls John air then the
[00:34:16] main oh Conair of course yeah 96 portrait of a lady every
[00:34:21] character actor John Malcovich well maybe I can I think
[00:34:26] my mouth starts to turn into Werner Herzog you were not
[00:34:32] there essentially is actually in this film puts that puts that
[00:34:38] cookie down he's that's man his money and let me make a
[00:34:43] documentary film about it shit though I want to play poker
[00:34:46] against Werner Herzog back here is my Werner Herzog playing
[00:34:51] poker it's a full house that's it that's it that's it
[00:34:59] that's all I watch though I have that's good sorry also
[00:35:06] rounders is a fun 90s movie it feels very yeah that's the
[00:35:10] score and which maybe this is all yeah yeah no I get there's
[00:35:14] a there's a sweet like shot of ESPN like displaying the
[00:35:18] World Series of poker in rounders and I love whenever
[00:35:22] you get to see old ESPN with like the old nasty graphics
[00:35:26] and like those captured on that golden black you know that's
[00:35:30] exactly and so like I always I always remember that and like
[00:35:33] oh that's why they did show poker back on like days back of
[00:35:36] the old ESPN when it didn't have NFL contracts and they
[00:35:39] needed to fill those hours they put poker on and Johnny
[00:35:42] Chan said did you have it I don't know John I forgot anyway
[00:35:46] Brad what's the last movie somebody no what's that
[00:35:48] smoothies off ooh I watched Monkey Man oh dev Patel's
[00:35:53] monkey man yeah what'd you think of it you didn't love it
[00:35:57] right I haven't seen it yet you're anticipating not liking
[00:36:01] it right no I don't based on race Jesus no I love it
[00:36:07] loved it loved it loved it dev Patel is fantastic it is
[00:36:11] it's it's a perfect I'm gonna say slow burn and I know
[00:36:15] that that's gonna seem weird because there's fighting in
[00:36:18] like the first five minutes of the film there's a
[00:36:20] there's a boxing match right off the bat right but it's
[00:36:23] it takes that and it shows you what he's capable of kind
[00:36:27] of and it just kind of builds from there I obviously do
[00:36:30] not want to say much about it but it's well worth your
[00:36:32] time it's very stylish but it's not it's not a
[00:36:36] John Wick knockoff at all it stands on its own yeah
[00:36:39] because it kind of looked like the Indian John
[00:36:41] John John John Knox John Knox yeah yeah
[00:36:45] I tell you what from what I understand Randy candle
[00:36:49] knockoff a Randy candle from what I understand even though
[00:36:52] it looks like that like simply calling it Indian John Wick
[00:36:55] is very reductive no that's why it's got a lot more bubbling
[00:36:58] I just said that I just said that that's why I understand
[00:37:00] though I literally fucking just said that you piece of shit
[00:37:04] I think you're saying like don't be reductive what are
[00:37:06] you doing no no I was telling me does does you didn't say
[00:37:09] that does canary's make he doesn't appear as John
[00:37:12] you know as as as Bill or Ted or whatever Bill is he bill
[00:37:17] but definitely is Ted wrote this and directed it's a
[00:37:21] pretty big deal yeah so he's great he the whole the
[00:37:24] whole thing is great canary's name in the matrix is Ted
[00:37:30] yeah Ted lasso what are we doing well you have to believe
[00:37:35] in the one have you seen a lot of 824 films yes I have
[00:37:39] how would you rank monkey man amongst the 824 films
[00:37:42] obviously they span different genre because I am a
[00:37:45] because I'm a dull I that's fine that's why I asked you
[00:37:49] I would rank this near the top just because of the action
[00:37:52] okay that's that that is what the people need to hear
[00:37:55] 24 film though right it isn't a 20 I don't know
[00:37:58] I thought it was double checking because I don't
[00:38:01] apologize that I was like but hey you know what
[00:38:04] I thought I missed that compared anyway you know it's
[00:38:06] it's a 24 films this one more enjoy it's monkey ball
[00:38:10] it's a Jordan Jordan Peele that's what it is are you being
[00:38:13] why would that like created correlation to a 20 no he's
[00:38:16] not no I'm not created correlation just saying what
[00:38:19] it is it's a monkey ball purpose is he's to clarify
[00:38:23] an 824 movie could also be a monkey palm movie 824
[00:38:26] 824 is the studio distributor I'm thinking back to the
[00:38:29] trailer and I remember them yes using Jordan Peele's
[00:38:33] name in the correct I remember that too so it's very
[00:38:36] good you should see it but speaking of 824 films I also
[00:38:39] saw Civil War oh okay which is an 824 film and I can say
[00:38:43] the exact same thing about this where I because I'm a
[00:38:46] dumbass and an 824 is all high and mighty and way
[00:38:49] way smarter than me and I don't get their fucking
[00:38:51] allegories on that shit the Green Knight sucks my
[00:38:54] fucking dick and it can burn in hell I hate that
[00:38:56] movie sorry dip I just hate that movie Ben's not a big
[00:39:00] fan of metaphors no that not it's just a bad movie I
[00:39:04] talked about this so many times is a bad over the
[00:39:06] Green Knight as well and I like metaphor you can't
[00:39:08] fucking physically throw your ax away and then
[00:39:11] the next scene is there and they don't know it was
[00:39:13] it was one of those films where I'm like why do
[00:39:15] so many people like this film I don't get it
[00:39:18] it's pretty I will give it that anyway Civil War
[00:39:21] have you guys seen it I thought I know I really
[00:39:26] enjoyed it I will say that it almost functions
[00:39:29] as a series of more like vignettes sure but I
[00:39:33] think that that's the point I think that they're
[00:39:35] they're trying to do it from an actual you're
[00:39:38] following a news team let's say with thrown
[00:39:41] together news photojournalist team and so when
[00:39:45] you go into these situations as the audience
[00:39:47] you're kind of going in as as you would as
[00:39:50] a journalist where you don't know what's
[00:39:52] happening you don't know why it's happening
[00:39:53] you're just kind of in it and I think that's
[00:39:55] the point I would have loved of course
[00:39:57] because I'm dumb I would have loved a little
[00:39:59] bit more boxed in like okay why is there
[00:40:01] Civil War what's going on they don't really
[00:40:03] explain much but I do think that that's
[00:40:05] literally the point and for all of those
[00:40:08] for all of my like misgivings about I just
[00:40:11] wanted there to be more in each stop along
[00:40:14] the way because I'm curious overall I
[00:40:17] really enjoyed the picture how is Jesse
[00:40:19] Plemons I mean he's got a bit part
[00:40:21] yeah but it's great yeah it's yeah I
[00:40:24] give a bit of saying and I there are
[00:40:26] like that's where a lot of divisive
[00:40:28] commentary has kind of come from is a lot
[00:40:30] of people wanted there to be more of an
[00:40:32] indication of like the actual politics
[00:40:35] behind the Civil War and like what caused
[00:40:37] the Civil War and like what you know each
[00:40:39] side actually stands for something
[00:40:41] like that but that's not what this movie
[00:40:42] is about yeah and that's and I'm
[00:40:44] totally fine with that because I like
[00:40:46] the story and the movie that Alex
[00:40:48] Garland wanted to tell I don't I don't
[00:40:50] need to know why the Civil War started
[00:40:52] like guess fill in the blank yourself
[00:40:54] that movie is not interesting yeah that
[00:40:56] hard for exactly like it like it could
[00:40:58] literally be anything that's happening
[00:41:00] right now causing a civil war yeah we
[00:41:02] know what does not yeah it does not
[00:41:04] matter but what matters is like is
[00:41:06] watching these characters in an interact
[00:41:08] and like especially from a photo
[00:41:10] journalist angle to like what they do
[00:41:12] with the characters and how it
[00:41:14] unfolds and what they experience and
[00:41:16] what they see there's a certain
[00:41:18] intensity and tension that comes from
[00:41:20] the way they're experiencing the world
[00:41:22] terrifying and it's but yeah it's
[00:41:24] I wouldn't say it's terrible I'd say
[00:41:26] it's intense as fuck I don't think
[00:41:28] it's terrifying it's very
[00:41:30] intense you're a white man it's not
[00:41:32] that's true it's not it's not
[00:41:34] terrifying it's not terrifying in the
[00:41:36] sense of like a horror movie or something
[00:41:38] like that but it is a very unsettling
[00:41:40] moment where like you're like you're
[00:41:42] like it's especially once once you
[00:41:44] he like fires the gun you're like
[00:41:46] it's like oh fuck like anything can
[00:41:48] fucking like like you feel like you're
[00:41:50] like in the moment with them honestly like it
[00:41:52] feels that like intense
[00:41:54] but it's a I really like
[00:41:56] the movie what's your watch
[00:41:58] and then I watched
[00:42:00] anybody anyone but
[00:42:02] you anyone but you anyone
[00:42:04] anyone loose
[00:42:06] any would you lose with the
[00:42:08] Clinton and an orangutan
[00:42:10] Sydney Sweeney plays
[00:42:12] anyway anyway with anybody but loose starring
[00:42:14] Sydney Sweeney and orangutan is
[00:42:16] I'm on board for that
[00:42:18] just went full minion
[00:42:20] oh boy you're all welcome
[00:42:22] little tic-tac
[00:42:24] I was gonna say
[00:42:26] like a minion but I couldn't remember how to do it
[00:42:28] ba-na-na
[00:42:30] ba-na-na
[00:42:32] so that actually
[00:42:34] sounds like stitch yeah I was just saying
[00:42:36] oh how long
[00:42:38] it's fine I'm out of the
[00:42:40] that was a good switch
[00:42:42] I'll write about the
[00:42:44] film
[00:42:46] I'm not gonna get it
[00:42:48] Glenn Powell can't get it
[00:42:50] these are two extremely attractive people
[00:42:52] I was surprised
[00:42:54] how much I enjoyed this film
[00:42:56] thank you I'm not gonna lie I didn't like it
[00:42:58] I liked it
[00:43:00] I was surprised because I was
[00:43:02] my bar was very low because obviously
[00:43:04] it's a rom-com who gives a shit
[00:43:06] but there's a scene when they
[00:43:08] it's a probably about
[00:43:10] I don't know 20% into the film
[00:43:12] and they're on an airplane
[00:43:14] there's somebody sitting next to
[00:43:16] and it's just a person
[00:43:18] and so Glenn Powell's character is just interacting
[00:43:20] with her but then like kind of like winking at the guy
[00:43:22] but the guy's honest to goodness
[00:43:24] written reaction is fucking perfect
[00:43:26] it's what would really happen in the real world
[00:43:28] most rom-coms are like
[00:43:30] they'll roll their eyes or something
[00:43:32] but I won't even ruin it because it's such
[00:43:34] a funny line that the guy says it's what
[00:43:36] would really happen and I'm learning as I get older
[00:43:38] that I really enjoy films
[00:43:40] where I believe that's
[00:43:42] usually what somebody would say
[00:43:44] and I'm just so sick of just the
[00:43:46] the fucking
[00:43:48] sacrum bullshit that they just try to
[00:43:50] rehash over and over again
[00:43:52] like hey it's hard to say goodbye
[00:43:54] it's hard to say goodbye you know like they do that shit all the time
[00:43:56] but when it's really written well
[00:43:58] what somebody would really say I fucking love that
[00:44:00] and this is fun it was a fun
[00:44:02] I agree with that scene that scene
[00:44:04] is very funny yeah
[00:44:06] the reaction from it the one
[00:44:08] shortcoming is that I don't think Sydney Sweeney delivers her sharp digs as well
[00:44:10] as see and that's the thing like she's not
[00:44:12] a great actress
[00:44:14] but they have good chemistry
[00:44:16] at least not in this kind of role
[00:44:18] let me say this did you see this
[00:44:20] before after you saw the most recent one
[00:44:22] that she was in I saw this after I saw
[00:44:24] Immaculate yeah because I had never seen Immaculate
[00:44:26] and I didn't believe that Cindy Sweeney was a good actress
[00:44:28] you saw her in Immaculate and said she actually had some acting chops
[00:44:30] she was good in that movie yeah she was good in that movie
[00:44:32] and so like I didn't have high expectations
[00:44:34] over acting skills possibly this is just her
[00:44:36] acting skills
[00:44:38] possibly this is just her being slightly
[00:44:40] miscast then because
[00:44:42] you know yeah there's a little bit of chemistry between her
[00:44:44] and Glenn Powell but she's not particularly
[00:44:46] great in Madame Webb either though
[00:44:48] I've only seen her in Madame Webb
[00:44:50] Madame that's the proper way
[00:44:52] we class it up
[00:44:54] but she basically the way she delivers these
[00:44:56] lines is because they hate each other in this film
[00:44:58] and so it comes
[00:45:00] off very written yeah you know
[00:45:02] well I guess you just get a small
[00:45:04] dick it's like what are you doing
[00:45:06] like a real waspy brat yeah
[00:45:08] but she is a waspy brat but not in a way
[00:45:10] that's entertaining
[00:45:12] no yeah like I like entertaining
[00:45:14] waspy brats yeah
[00:45:16] but Immaculate
[00:45:18] she is fun to look at like watching Rachel McAdams
[00:45:20] be Regina George is very
[00:45:22] entertaining watching Cindy Sweeney's
[00:45:24] characters not I'll admit
[00:45:26] that the number of different
[00:45:28] outfits that she wore in this film
[00:45:30] where she comes on screen and I just go god damn
[00:45:32] I just I thought
[00:45:34] that I'd be over it by the fourth costume
[00:45:36] change yeah she's hot nope new dress
[00:45:38] what the fuck like she's just that hot
[00:45:40] she really is gorgeous yeah there's I mean
[00:45:42] there's that gift from
[00:45:44] Euphoria and then
[00:45:46] there's a maculate of her
[00:45:48] throwing up in the hot tub oh man
[00:45:50] I watched that all the time and then there's
[00:45:52] apparently Immaculate
[00:45:54] and then after that is this movie
[00:45:56] and then Madame I tell you about her acting
[00:45:58] or how hot she is well just like
[00:46:00] what you're excited to see her in
[00:46:02] the gift from Euphoria and
[00:46:04] then after that would be Immaculate
[00:46:06] Immaculate and then I am
[00:46:08] glad to hear that she does have
[00:46:10] some actual acting chops you know yeah
[00:46:12] that go along with it because instead of just those books
[00:46:14] she's got a wonderful
[00:46:16] a wonderful look
[00:46:18] to her but of course you want somebody like that to be able to carry
[00:46:20] you know a movie did you think the rest of the movie
[00:46:22] was funny so
[00:46:24] there's a funny part it's shut up Nate we already
[00:46:26] know what you say hey it's
[00:46:28] hit or miss like the
[00:46:30] overbearing parents I get it but that's it was way too over the
[00:46:32] time they dialed it up to 13 when they didn't need to
[00:46:34] be I don't even think gait is very funny in this movie
[00:46:36] either and he should be who's that
[00:46:38] he's uh
[00:46:40] the um oh the the Australian guy
[00:46:42] no no the
[00:46:44] gaita yeah gaita
[00:46:46] I'm sorry I don't know who gait is he's the black guy
[00:46:48] Oh is that his name yeah
[00:46:50] that's the actor's name he's from Dave
[00:46:52] Davionti Gantor is his Christian name
[00:46:54] but yeah yeah I couldn't remember where
[00:46:56] I'd seen him before Dave he's fantastic
[00:46:58] yeah he was one of my favorite parts of this
[00:47:00] film I didn't think he was particularly great in this movie
[00:47:02] and I really like
[00:47:04] him and I do think he's funny I didn't
[00:47:06] think that his lines
[00:47:08] are like were particularly funny in this movie
[00:47:10] so I think that he bone yang did
[00:47:12] or Keenan Thompson did a little bit where
[00:47:14] those are written lines and he his performance
[00:47:16] made him funny I really like
[00:47:18] now yeah I did too I wasn't
[00:47:20] expecting you know when he's like yeah get the fuck
[00:47:22] out of that shit but not right now like it was funny
[00:47:24] anyway overall
[00:47:26] you know it would definitely be a movie that
[00:47:28] if you're on a date watch it because
[00:47:30] you're gonna get all steamed up
[00:47:32] and it's fun enough
[00:47:34] it's also fun to see
[00:47:36] Robcom make $220 million
[00:47:38] on a $25 million
[00:47:40] well even more honestly regardless of the quality
[00:47:42] of it it was impressive because
[00:47:44] it like actually ended up like
[00:47:46] sticking around the top charts for a while
[00:47:48] I was just saying like that's fun it's fun for films to do
[00:47:50] I have Netflix not to brag
[00:47:52] but there I
[00:47:54] go on it once and free Netflix
[00:47:56] oh yeah and I do go on it pretty much
[00:47:58] every couple of weeks again not to brag
[00:48:00] it's been in the number one
[00:48:02] spot since it's been out on it's like
[00:48:04] number one on it only just came out last week
[00:48:06] but like for an entire week normally
[00:48:08] it's been number one but I'll see it I'll see
[00:48:10] other movies hit that but then the next day they won't be
[00:48:12] number one anymore this one at least is already
[00:48:14] check Netflix every day I do every day I watch it
[00:48:16] you know people are jerking off a lot to it
[00:48:18] I was gonna say like as minors find out that
[00:48:20] she's not nude in that on Netflix
[00:48:22] she you can expect
[00:48:24] she's not nude in that on Netflix
[00:48:26] well there's some side
[00:48:28] my son has access to Netflix
[00:48:30] that is never going off to that
[00:48:32] number one spot
[00:48:34] it's always gonna be up there
[00:48:36] also Glenn Powell is just he's a
[00:48:38] fucking Greek god he's a statue
[00:48:40] he's made there's a line in the movie
[00:48:42] where Derblyd Mulroney
[00:48:44] or Dylan McDermott says
[00:48:46] Derblyd McDermott says
[00:48:48] Joe Bit Taylor
[00:48:50] is a guy of cobblestone
[00:48:52] and it really rings
[00:48:54] and it's just 100% straight
[00:48:56] and then you're like
[00:48:58] and the shot when you see him too
[00:49:00] it's just a close up of his hog
[00:49:02] yeah no and I would spit on that thing
[00:49:04] and give it a good old tug jab
[00:49:06] there's a reason his name in Topic of Maverick
[00:49:08] is Hangman
[00:49:10] oh yeah
[00:49:12] the monster don
[00:49:14] what else did you watch
[00:49:16] talk about a wet potato what are we doing
[00:49:18] I'm done I'm out that's it
[00:49:20] I did not get to watch the iron claw
[00:49:22] I did run out of time
[00:49:24] I'm glad we all did our assignments
[00:49:26] once again
[00:49:28] Nate gave me a day before it was due last week
[00:49:30] what did you say he said
[00:49:32] I got plenty of time
[00:49:34] don't even worry about it bro
[00:49:36] I'm gonna watch the shit out of this movie bro
[00:49:38] when I said that on Wednesday
[00:49:40] and then on Saturday night at 11 o'clock
[00:49:42] I got it
[00:49:44] you mean three days later when you already wasted time
[00:49:46] no then we had to get
[00:49:48] manager work and I
[00:49:50] yeah I gave you the iron claw on like fucking Monday
[00:49:52] you were on top of it this week
[00:49:54] I'm trying to get us back on track
[00:49:56] everyone else was saying fuck me I guess
[00:49:58] I don't really want to watch the iron claw
[00:50:00] I'll watch Monkey Man instead
[00:50:02] Zach everyone looks like he man in it
[00:50:04] and I don't know what to do with that
[00:50:06] have you seen the thing online
[00:50:08] where they put a picture of him right now
[00:50:10] up against the human form of Shrek
[00:50:12] and they look identical
[00:50:14] it's crazy
[00:50:16] he bulked up
[00:50:18] just the weirdness of how close
[00:50:20] he honestly resembles human Shrek
[00:50:22] it's real
[00:50:24] I'm also really surprised you don't want to watch the iron claw
[00:50:26] I kind of feel like that would have been right
[00:50:28] I honestly was not joking
[00:50:30] I saw the trailer and I wanted to do it
[00:50:32] but then Brad's like oh get ready to cry
[00:50:34] and I'm like great it's one of those
[00:50:36] but you've come to terms with your father
[00:50:38] he loves you now
[00:50:40] oh this is gonna be a fun dramatic retelling
[00:50:42] of this story but now it's like all gonna be
[00:50:44] tugging at your heartstrings of bullshit
[00:50:46] if you know the real story you know it's not a happy story
[00:50:48] I don't know I just know it's a fucking wrestling thing
[00:50:50] well wrestling is actually
[00:50:52] never filled with happy stories
[00:50:54] have you ever seen The Undertaker
[00:50:56] he rises from the anyway
[00:50:58] his name is The Undertaker
[00:51:00] alright we've got a game to get to so let's talk trailers really quickly
[00:51:02] and get to the games
[00:51:04] fuck you you can talk about your fucking garbage
[00:51:06] Jesus Christ
[00:51:08] let's play a game
[00:51:10] called how long does it take to piss off Brad
[00:51:14] as soon as we start the podcast
[00:51:16] not very long my friends
[00:51:18] as soon as Nate hits record
[00:51:20] this this this Brad has pissed
[00:51:22] are you looking up what movies you've seen
[00:51:24] I had to check and see if there was anything else
[00:51:26] I saw Abigail
[00:51:28] which is a
[00:51:30] yeah it's a it is a
[00:51:32] horror thriller with some
[00:51:34] some dark comedic elements and it's about a group of people
[00:51:36] who kidnap a young girl
[00:51:38] and then they find out that the young girl
[00:51:40] who's a little ballet dancer
[00:51:42] is also a vampire
[00:51:44] and they've actually been lured into kidnapping her
[00:51:46] so that she can kill them
[00:51:48] and this movie is fucking
[00:51:50] awesome
[00:51:52] yeah it is extremely funny
[00:51:54] because Dan Stevens is hilarious
[00:51:56] in it
[00:51:58] the honestly the entire ensemble cast is awesome
[00:52:00] the girl who plays Abigail
[00:52:02] is great she is like
[00:52:04] deliciously evil
[00:52:06] Kevin Durand is in this
[00:52:08] Kevin Durand
[00:52:10] fuck you
[00:52:12] he's tall
[00:52:14] you can't just jump back from your stupid fucking phone text message
[00:52:16] into this conversation
[00:52:18] like you've been part of it the whole time
[00:52:20] Kevin Durand
[00:52:22] Kevin Durand is hilarious
[00:52:24] in this like a stupid
[00:52:26] meathead Elon Musk in this movie almost
[00:52:28] he kind of does look like Elon Musk
[00:52:30] I would love to see him play Elon Musk
[00:52:32] in a movie
[00:52:34] and then he can sort it
[00:52:36] get David Fincher to direct it
[00:52:38] have Kevin Durand play Elon Musk
[00:52:40] and I'll be there with 500 tickets
[00:52:42] Elon Musk will buy it so that it can never come out though
[00:52:44] fucking Elon Musk
[00:52:46] but yeah Abigail if you
[00:52:48] have been on the fence about this for whatever reason
[00:52:50] it is bloody hilarious
[00:52:52] just like a great
[00:52:54] horror flick with like just
[00:52:56] really good action in it as well
[00:52:58] it's just it's really fun
[00:53:00] it's the kind of horror movie I like so I was excited
[00:53:02] it's very very good I also saw
[00:53:04] Challengers
[00:53:06] which is Zendaya's new movie with
[00:53:08] the tennis one, tennis sex, yeah Mike faced
[00:53:10] which is Lugua Guadagnino's
[00:53:12] new movie and it's very good
[00:53:14] it's I don't think it's quite
[00:53:16] as sexy as the trailer
[00:53:18] would have you believe
[00:53:20] it seems like it's like a basic instinct of tennis
[00:53:22] the poll quote said it could get me pregnant
[00:53:24] the movie
[00:53:26] could impregnate me based on its sexiness
[00:53:28] oh because tennis they use the word
[00:53:30] love it is
[00:53:32] that's what it is
[00:53:34] also when you're talking about lovers
[00:53:36] they say deuce
[00:53:38] it does have
[00:53:40] it does have sexy scenes in it for sure
[00:53:42] and the ones
[00:53:44] that are like are very clearly in the trailer
[00:53:46] there are sexy scenes
[00:53:48] yeah three sims
[00:53:50] wild fangs
[00:53:52] there's definitely like a attention
[00:53:54] and like a playfulness between the back and forth
[00:53:56] that has like a sexy attribute to it
[00:53:58] that's not full on sexy in the way
[00:54:00] that like a basic instinct
[00:54:02] or like a fatal attraction
[00:54:04] or wild things
[00:54:06] or anything like that would be
[00:54:08] considered to be very
[00:54:10] 4th sexiest film
[00:54:12] there's like certain implied
[00:54:14] things and they get very close
[00:54:16] to each other
[00:54:18] there's a lot of
[00:54:20] in conversations
[00:54:22] where they're having very
[00:54:24] tennis match back and forth
[00:54:26] in conversations
[00:54:28] but like they're like
[00:54:30] faces like right up against each other
[00:54:32] and not in a way like they're not having a sexy conversation
[00:54:34] but the conversation is made somewhat sexy
[00:54:36] because of how close they are
[00:54:38] we talked about each other
[00:54:40] when you come over
[00:54:42] we sit next to each other
[00:54:44] I can't get that close to your face
[00:54:46] because if I do like my face will be
[00:54:48] engulfing flames because it's soaked in alcohol
[00:54:50] out of the two males
[00:54:52] that go for it and die as love
[00:54:54] which one has the advantage
[00:54:56] you have to watch the movie
[00:54:58] that's another tennis pun
[00:55:00] can we talk about this though?
[00:55:02] it's a movie about tennis
[00:55:04] and like that is like a primary piece of the movie
[00:55:06] no I've been saying like love
[00:55:08] I heard and I said deuce
[00:55:10] and I said advantage
[00:55:12] yeah that doesn't work though
[00:55:14] are they 15 or years old or 30
[00:55:16] they're not 45 yet
[00:55:18] the low quality of these jokes
[00:55:20] match point
[00:55:22] the low quality of these jokes is your fault
[00:55:24] oh I see what you're doing
[00:55:26] that was good
[00:55:28] because we're all of a generation
[00:55:30] here right
[00:55:32] can we maybe briefly discuss
[00:55:34] these two male leads of this film
[00:55:36] are these men attractive
[00:55:38] to us?
[00:55:40] no
[00:55:42] we just got done
[00:55:44] totally fair question
[00:55:46] because I got the exact same thing
[00:55:48] I was like wait a minute
[00:55:50] Connor and Mike Faced are like
[00:55:52] sex symbols for this movie
[00:55:54] it's just when you're like with Zendaya
[00:55:56] because Mike Faced looks like
[00:55:58] theater kid John Mulaney
[00:56:00] and Joshua Connor looks like
[00:56:02] he works at a nearby hardware store
[00:56:04] guys I think we aged out of sexy dudes
[00:56:06] I don't think that
[00:56:08] the new sexy is just plain dude
[00:56:10] well I think it's that dude
[00:56:12] would be plain dude
[00:56:14] it can still be Glenn Powell
[00:56:16] but it's also
[00:56:18] this little
[00:56:20] in between
[00:56:22] because I feel like the trailer for this was on Dune 2
[00:56:24] because I feel like I saw it in a theater
[00:56:26] and I can remember at the end leaning over to Jack
[00:56:28] and he and I both going
[00:56:30] are those dudes hot enough
[00:56:32] to sleep with Zendaya?
[00:56:34] the answer is no because no one is
[00:56:36] and I'm like I can't tell anymore
[00:56:38] I think they might be but not for us
[00:56:40] tell that to Tom Holland
[00:56:42] the tiktok generation
[00:56:44] they're all very skinny young boys
[00:56:46] you know like no judgment
[00:56:48] go for it guys they're killing the game
[00:56:50] they look very chiseled
[00:56:52] listen they're killing the game set and the match
[00:56:54] and the match there you go
[00:56:56] but just to me it didn't feel like
[00:56:58] it didn't feel like these were
[00:57:00] the sexy men of our generation
[00:57:02] there was no Josh Hartnet on that screen
[00:57:04] for me there was nobody who was like
[00:57:06] Josh Hartnet on a separate note
[00:57:08] the soundtrack
[00:57:10] I was just gonna ask you a weird question
[00:57:12] but how is the soundtrack
[00:57:14] Trent and Resner and Atticus Ross
[00:57:16] did the score for the social network
[00:57:18] for Teenage Mutant Turtles Mutant Mayhem
[00:57:20] they're phenomenal together and this is a
[00:57:22] social network level score
[00:57:24] this is a score that I'll be writing to
[00:57:26] for years like it'll get you pumped up
[00:57:28] and go and it is a pulsating
[00:57:30] electronic also score
[00:57:32] the same just like sex
[00:57:34] so it's not just about your racket then
[00:57:36] you fucking asshole
[00:57:38] Jesus Christ you're a piece of shit
[00:57:40] but yeah so I saw challenges
[00:57:42] and then I also watched a movie
[00:57:44] assigned to me by my good friend Nate because I respect him
[00:57:46] and I like to give him the time of day
[00:57:48] and Nate assigned to me
[00:57:50] a movie called The Mule
[00:57:52] which was directed by Clint Eastwood
[00:57:54] and why did I assign it to you?
[00:57:56] because you hate me
[00:57:58] no no because apparently it has some
[00:58:00] local flair I guess the guy who
[00:58:02] inspired this
[00:58:04] story was apparently from
[00:58:06] Michigan City which is
[00:58:08] just a hop skip and a jump away from us here in La Porte, Indiana
[00:58:10] about a 15 minute drive
[00:58:12] and so if you
[00:58:14] somehow miss this movie or whatever
[00:58:16] Clint Eastwood directs Ann Stars in it
[00:58:18] and it's about this old man
[00:58:20] who's kind of down on his luck
[00:58:22] he's a horticulturist and like his business
[00:58:24] has been shut down
[00:58:26] and his house is foreclosed upon
[00:58:28] he's kind of on the outs like with his family
[00:58:30] because he's never really been there
[00:58:32] for them and he suddenly
[00:58:34] gets the opportunity to start
[00:58:36] pulling off these deliveries
[00:58:38] of drugs
[00:58:40] he becomes a drug mule
[00:58:42] and he's very nonchalant about it
[00:58:44] he doesn't really care about
[00:58:46] the secrecy of it or anything
[00:58:48] he just throws them in his truck and because he's an old white guy
[00:58:50] no one's really bothering him or anything like that
[00:58:52] and it's very easy for him to do this
[00:58:54] and he starts making tons of money
[00:58:56] and gets in and gives his family and everything
[00:58:58] but of course the DEA
[00:59:00] is in hot pursuit with Bradley Cooper
[00:59:02] and Lawrence Fishburne as part of it
[00:59:04] but it's
[00:59:06] maybe it was okay
[00:59:08] I wasn't blown away by anything
[00:59:10] it was better than I thought it was going to be
[00:59:12] parts of it feel like Clint Eastwood trying to
[00:59:14] apologize for Gran Torino
[00:59:16] I'm not racist
[00:59:18] that character was racist
[00:59:20] stay on my lawn
[00:59:22] because he plays a character who
[00:59:24] he doesn't fully, he's not necessarily in tune
[00:59:26] with what is okay in PC
[00:59:28] but when he is told about it
[00:59:30] and recognized it he's totally fine with it
[00:59:32] there's a scene where he helps
[00:59:34] a black tire on the side of the road
[00:59:36] and he says something to the effect of
[00:59:38] calling them Negro people
[00:59:40] and the black guy is like
[00:59:42] we don't really say that
[00:59:44] and he's like oh really he was like
[00:59:46] we prefer just black or people
[00:59:48] and Clint Eastwood is kind of chuckle
[00:59:50] he's like oh well okay
[00:59:52] he kind of just accepts it
[00:59:54] the world today
[00:59:56] it would have been amazing if he's like
[00:59:58] nah
[01:00:00] but for me I think the movie is big
[01:00:02] shortcoming Clint Eastwood is solid in it
[01:00:04] it doesn't feel like the story ever reaches
[01:00:06] like a proper pinnacle
[01:00:08] it feels like it just kind of fizzles out
[01:00:10] and also for Clint Eastwood's character
[01:00:12] I didn't really ever get a sense that
[01:00:14] he ever adequately
[01:00:16] or fully redeemed himself
[01:00:18] in the sense that he should have
[01:00:20] and I felt like there would have been a more interesting
[01:00:22] story if they maybe skewed a little bit
[01:00:24] further away from what the true story was
[01:00:26] because I don't know how accurate this is when compared to the true story
[01:00:28] but I feel like I would have liked
[01:00:30] it more if it ended up being something
[01:00:32] akin to catch me if you can
[01:00:34] where Clint Eastwood had a more
[01:00:36] playful relationship with Bradley Cooper's
[01:00:38] DEA agent
[01:00:40] and it established more about
[01:00:42] Clint Eastwood's perspective
[01:00:44] about his family and his role in it
[01:00:46] because one thing I love about Catch Me If You Can
[01:00:48] is Leonardo DiCaprio's
[01:00:50] completely undying image of
[01:00:52] like his perfect family and like
[01:00:54] what like who his dad is
[01:00:56] the love there is between his mom and dad
[01:00:58] and I feel like Clint Eastwood needed to learn something
[01:01:00] about like that family dynamic
[01:01:02] to really feel like the character you're like actually
[01:01:04] learn anything. And also to bring us into that
[01:01:06] right? Exactly. To bring us into that story
[01:01:08] because there's not a lot to latch on to him as a character
[01:01:10] and like so even though the story itself
[01:01:12] is interesting
[01:01:14] I don't think they give you enough to latch on to emotionally
[01:01:16] to make you care about what's happening
[01:01:18] beyond you just don't want to get caught
[01:01:20] you know. Yeah I like this one because
[01:01:22] I think it is an interesting story where you've got this
[01:01:24] you know 80-some-year-old guy
[01:01:26] who is now a trafficker for the Sinaloa cartel
[01:01:28] right? Which is a big deal
[01:01:30] it's a major
[01:01:32] good friend, big deal
[01:01:34] I will say if I was given the opportunity
[01:01:36] to pull off a job like this
[01:01:38] I would take it in a heartbeat
[01:01:40] On air admitting you would be
[01:01:42] a hardened criminal immediately
[01:01:44] Oh yeah if like the paycheck was this big
[01:01:46] and I could get rid of my student loan debt
[01:01:48] like you bet I'm gonna throw some drugs in the back
[01:01:50] of my car and just drive casually across state lines
[01:01:52] Well you heard it here first
[01:01:54] Let's just do
[01:01:56] let's talk about
[01:01:58] one trailer real quick
[01:02:00] Ben do you want to do the trailer song?
[01:02:02] I'll do a game song
[01:02:04] Ben do you want to do the trailer song?
[01:02:06] No but I wrote a game so I'll do the game song
[01:02:08] Alex do you want to do the trailer song?
[01:02:10] No say no
[01:02:12] Don't say no
[01:02:24] Let's go trailers
[01:02:26] Yeah
[01:02:28] Perfect
[01:02:30] Way better than Ben Connelly's
[01:02:32] So it would have been nice if we could have talked about this trailer
[01:02:34] on the last episode that recorded
[01:02:36] the day before this trailer came out
[01:02:38] but that's just the way the good thing about it
[01:02:40] The trailer for Deadpool and Wolverine
[01:02:42] released literally the day after we recorded
[01:02:44] a new episode and so we're a week behind
[01:02:46] on this but we did watch the trailer
[01:02:48] and what do you guys think about it?
[01:02:50] I mean
[01:02:52] by now if you're not on board with
[01:02:54] Deadpool as a film
[01:02:56] What's wrong with you?
[01:02:58] This is great, this is everything I want
[01:03:00] I want to see it tomorrow
[01:03:02] It's kind of
[01:03:04] Does it feel maybe a little bit
[01:03:06] like something
[01:03:08] is riding on this movie
[01:03:10] Like the first time
[01:03:12] in Marvel
[01:03:14] for a long time
[01:03:16] where like
[01:03:18] this is a big deal
[01:03:20] This could be good
[01:03:22] and it could maybe fix
[01:03:24] what's happened
[01:03:26] and like maybe this can write the ship
[01:03:28] I wouldn't, I don't want to put that impetus
[01:03:30] on it because
[01:03:32] Deadpool is not the kind of movie
[01:03:34] that is going to write the problems
[01:03:36] that are wrong with Marvel right now
[01:03:38] Deadpool has always been in its own thing
[01:03:40] not just because it was at Fox but because
[01:03:42] it's a different kind of superhero movie
[01:03:44] and they are keeping that intact
[01:03:46] even though it's now firmly under the Marvel Studios
[01:03:48] banner, this is the first time Deadpool is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe
[01:03:50] It's bringing
[01:03:52] the Fox movie universe
[01:03:54] into the fray by making Deadpool part of it
[01:03:56] along with having Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine
[01:03:58] But I do think
[01:04:00] that the vibe is there of this being a big deal
[01:04:02] because they did bring back
[01:04:04] Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, they are
[01:04:06] bringing Deadpool as the MCU
[01:04:08] and there haven't been a lot of great Marvel movies
[01:04:10] since Endgame like we talked about before
[01:04:12] And from just a perspective
[01:04:14] of even if it doesn't do anything
[01:04:16] plot wise
[01:04:18] in the overall to bring everything together
[01:04:20] if Marvel gets a
[01:04:22] $1 billion movie
[01:04:24] it can make a billion dollars
[01:04:26] then this thing had 27 million views
[01:04:28] on the trailer in a day
[01:04:30] For example
[01:04:32] most trailers even when they are popular
[01:04:34] after one day have 4 million views
[01:04:36] that's a pretty good trailer
[01:04:38] But this is 27 million
[01:04:40] bringing in part of the narrative of the Marvel Universe
[01:04:42] right now
[01:04:44] Well TV and Ant-Man
[01:04:46] is really big deal right now
[01:04:48] for Loki and Loki season 2
[01:04:50] Well the Ant-Man thing, I think that's just going to be a tangential
[01:04:52] thing where like
[01:04:54] Oh you don't think they are going to follow that plot line from the comics?
[01:04:56] I mean it's not, I don't think it's going to be a big part of it
[01:04:58] I think it's just going to be
[01:05:00] I think it's one of those things where like it's a reference
[01:05:02] alluding to the idea that the void has a lot
[01:05:04] of characters from fallen universes
[01:05:06] elsewhere in the MCU
[01:05:08] I hope this is the Ant-Man that beats his wife
[01:05:10] Wow! He would have deserved it
[01:05:12] Look at that Paul Rudd turn
[01:05:14] like you haven't seen it
[01:05:16] close to 60 the next 10 years he's a villain
[01:05:18] Oh it'd be great
[01:05:20] It starts in Deadpool 3
[01:05:22] No one wants to watch Paul Rudd beat his wife
[01:05:24] You don't know that until you've seen it
[01:05:26] Paul Rudd ruffs up his wife
[01:05:28] on the next Deadpool
[01:05:30] Paul Ruff
[01:05:32] I was going to say that but I thought you would make fun of me so fucky
[01:05:34] It's Ant-Man, it's not Paul Rudd
[01:05:36] But yeah I
[01:05:38] if I have one complaint
[01:05:40] There we go
[01:05:42] Well first Nate what do you think?
[01:05:44] I'm excited about it
[01:05:46] I'm actually very excited about this
[01:05:48] I also wondering where Cable is
[01:05:50] because he's not in this
[01:05:52] and Zazie beats his character
[01:05:54] He's in the future
[01:05:56] I don't think they're going to be in it
[01:05:58] Yeah I know that kind of saddens me because
[01:06:00] they were important part of last
[01:06:02] I really liked Domino so I would be glad if she was back
[01:06:04] So I'm a little saddened about that
[01:06:06] but I think this is going to be great
[01:06:08] I'm going to go back to the original franchise
[01:06:10] My one
[01:06:12] reservation about this is that
[01:06:14] There is
[01:06:16] There's obviously very funny things in this trailer
[01:06:18] but there are elements of it
[01:06:20] that feel like the kind of jokes
[01:06:22] that are meant to be
[01:06:24] funny for an audience that isn't necessarily
[01:06:26] used to hearing
[01:06:28] raunchy, arid and humor
[01:06:30] It's the kind of stuff that is just raunchy enough
[01:06:32] to be edgy for Disney
[01:06:34] and Marvel Studios
[01:06:36] that's just in like a knocked up
[01:06:38] 21 Jump Street or anything like that
[01:06:40] You're afraid they're going to pull it back a little bit
[01:06:42] Not that they're going to pull it back a bit
[01:06:44] I think that the bar
[01:06:46] for what Deadpool is as far as raunchy comedy
[01:06:48] is automatically a little bit lower
[01:06:50] than what you would get from a full on
[01:06:52] R rated comedy
[01:06:54] from Judd Apatow, Adam McKay
[01:06:56] They can make jokes about not being able to make
[01:06:58] references to cocaine
[01:07:00] Exactly and everyone's going to be like
[01:07:02] ooh that's so naughty
[01:07:04] Deadpool would just straight up be doing cocaine
[01:07:06] Exactly and that's the problem
[01:07:08] I do worry that there's going to be
[01:07:10] a little too much of the winking and nodding
[01:07:12] of like oh we're doing something that Disney wouldn't
[01:07:14] normally let us get away with
[01:07:16] I mean I trust some
[01:07:18] writers to be smart enough
[01:07:20] to know when to do that but not really rely on that
[01:07:22] I hope so
[01:07:24] Like I said, that's one of my biggest concerns
[01:07:26] is that there's going to be too much of a reliance
[01:07:28] I don't think it's going to be very good
[01:07:30] based on your now I'm not on board anymore
[01:07:32] You flip-flopped about anyone but you and you ended up coming back
[01:07:34] with a full on Kevin
[01:07:36] Like a full on Kevin
[01:07:38] So yeah, Deadpool and Wolverine
[01:07:40] comes out July 24
[01:07:42] 26
[01:07:44] That's a different day
[01:07:46] So there we go, that's the trailer
[01:07:48] that we watched
[01:07:50] Ben go ahead and you got a game?
[01:07:52] Dude I wrote a game and a song
[01:07:54] Not write a song
[01:07:56] I wrote a game
[01:07:58] But you did say you're going to do a game
[01:08:00] Who said this? I said fine
[01:08:02] Jesus I said fine
[01:08:04] Yeah but you're being belligerent about it now
[01:08:06] You brought it up
[01:08:10] What is this game about by the way
[01:08:12] Movies
[01:08:16] Scrimshaw
[01:08:18] Okay
[01:08:20] Sitting on the couch
[01:08:22] with my friends
[01:08:24] Wasting time
[01:08:26] Playing movie games
[01:08:28] Sitting with Brad and Nate
[01:08:30] While Alex watches from behind
[01:08:32] the pearly gates
[01:08:34] Wait did I just kill him?
[01:08:36] He's in heaven?
[01:08:38] I just killed him
[01:08:40] Alright that's it
[01:08:42] Alright so this game is called
[01:08:44] I'm going to put my glasses on
[01:08:46] Oh fucking hell
[01:08:48] You got to get your readers on buddy
[01:08:50] Cheaters? Well that's the name of the game
[01:08:52] I'm going to put my glasses on
[01:08:54] That's the name of the game
[01:08:56] Ben's a magician
[01:08:58] Okay
[01:09:00] We've played a version of this before
[01:09:02] I just couldn't remember what we called it
[01:09:04] I'll read you the top three
[01:09:06] build actors from two different movies
[01:09:08] So movie one
[01:09:10] I'll read the third build, movie two
[01:09:12] I'll read the third build and movie one
[01:09:14] I'll read the second build, movie two
[01:09:16] The second build and then the first build
[01:09:18] And those two movies
[01:09:20] Put together will make sense
[01:09:22] Like if I gave you the top three build
[01:09:24] Nick of Time and Titanic it would be
[01:09:26] Titanic of Time
[01:09:28] Get it?
[01:09:30] Titanic of Time? And that makes sense
[01:09:32] I'm looking at Nate because
[01:09:34] The titles will blend together
[01:09:36] Oh you're looking at me is if
[01:09:38] Understanding the game doesn't mean I'm going to get a point in this
[01:09:40] I'm just making sure you get it
[01:09:42] That's all
[01:09:44] Alright your hint
[01:09:46] Is that one of these movies came out in
[01:09:48] 2024
[01:09:50] And the other one
[01:09:52] All of them have an Academy Award
[01:09:54] Winner
[01:09:56] In them
[01:09:58] Saved for one that just had a nomination
[01:10:00] So for every single one
[01:10:02] That was a fantastic clue
[01:10:04] Every single one
[01:10:06] One of the movies came out in 2024
[01:10:08] Oh actually no I changed it
[01:10:10] The other one has
[01:10:12] An Academy Award winner
[01:10:14] Is this the game?
[01:10:16] I did change it
[01:10:18] I took the extra time
[01:10:20] To make sure that all of them were Academy Award winners
[01:10:22] Instead of just nominees
[01:10:24] No more clues
[01:10:26] One of the movies is from 2024
[01:10:28] And the other one has an Academy Award winner
[01:10:30] And then one of them is an A24
[01:10:32] But that one doesn't have an Academy Award
[01:10:34] No those don't
[01:10:36] Only the third one
[01:10:38] The third build
[01:10:40] Every third movie
[01:10:42] So
[01:10:44] We're going to need some buzzers
[01:10:46] Brad what's your buzzer going to be
[01:10:48] Alex
[01:10:50] Boof
[01:10:52] Bloop
[01:10:54] One more time
[01:10:56] Boof
[01:10:58] Bloop
[01:11:00] The first name I'm going to give you
[01:11:02] A third build in this film
[01:11:04] Is a Pitobash
[01:11:06] Or Pitobash
[01:11:08] The other movie is Mark Anthony
[01:11:10] The first movie
[01:11:13] Again
[01:11:15] Charlton Copley
[01:11:17] You're not pronouncing this right
[01:11:19] Charlton Copley
[01:11:21] It's online it says it's pronounced
[01:11:23] Copley
[01:11:25] Interesting
[01:11:27] The YouTube videos said Copley
[01:11:29] Was it one of those videos where
[01:11:31] It's literally just saying the name out loud
[01:11:33] No it was another
[01:11:35] Yes
[01:11:39] Alright so
[01:11:41] Pitobash or Patobash or whatever
[01:11:43] And Mark Anthony
[01:11:45] Copley or Copley
[01:11:47] Dakota Fanning is the other one in the other movie
[01:11:49] And then
[01:11:51] Dev Patel and Denzel Washington
[01:11:53] Go ahead Brad
[01:11:55] Monkey man I'm fighting
[01:11:57] It is, now you get a bonus point if you can name
[01:11:59] The Academy Award winner
[01:12:01] No I have a question
[01:12:03] For all these
[01:12:05] Okay don't
[01:12:07] I have a question
[01:12:09] Are you intentionally not saying
[01:12:11] The movies in the order that the title goes
[01:12:14] Uh
[01:12:16] It did
[01:12:18] Pitobash was the first one I said and Mark Anthony was the second
[01:12:20] Oh okay sorry that's why I was confused
[01:12:22] Okay never mind
[01:12:24] My fault
[01:12:26] So what was the bonus question
[01:12:28] Academy Award winner
[01:12:30] Oh
[01:12:32] We're gonna need an answer
[01:12:34] It's not the movie it's one of the actors right?
[01:12:36] Yeah I said
[01:12:38] The one's from 2024 and the other one has
[01:12:40] An Academy Award winner in it
[01:12:42] Are you kidding me?
[01:12:44] No hold on
[01:12:46] Now make fun of him for this
[01:12:48] No the way I said it earlier
[01:12:50] The way I said it earlier when I clarified
[01:12:52] Was that the movies were
[01:12:54] Academy Award winning
[01:12:56] As opposed to the actors
[01:12:58] There's an actor in that film
[01:13:00] It's Denzel Washington
[01:13:02] He was being a stall
[01:13:04] You didn't know did you
[01:13:06] No I'm clarifying
[01:13:08] You don't even know what movies are
[01:13:10] No
[01:13:12] Jessica Williams
[01:13:14] And Ron Eldard
[01:13:16] Okay
[01:13:18] Elvyn Hubbard
[01:13:20] Conor McGregor
[01:13:22] And Ben Kingsley
[01:13:24] Oh you suck
[01:13:26] Yes you suck
[01:13:28] It is
[01:13:30] Ben Kingsley
[01:13:32] Alright here's the next one
[01:13:34] No it was Iron Man 3
[01:13:36] Rebecca Ferguson
[01:13:38] And Ray Russo
[01:13:40] Zendaya and Al Pacino
[01:13:42] Timothy Shalamey
[01:13:44] And Matthew McConaughey
[01:13:54] Rebecca Ferguson
[01:13:56] I obviously know the first film but I don't know the second one
[01:13:58] Zendaya and Al Pacino
[01:14:00] Timothy Shalamey
[01:14:02] And Matthew McConaughey
[01:14:04] Oh Dune part 2 for the money
[01:14:06] You did not buzz in so you don't get the point
[01:14:08] It's my game
[01:14:10] Who is the Academy Award winner
[01:14:12] Al Pacino
[01:14:14] Hmm
[01:14:16] Matthew McConaughey
[01:14:18] No points on that round because you did not buzz in
[01:14:20] I got 3 points now
[01:14:22] Next time here we go
[01:14:24] Liam Neeson
[01:14:26] Oh I'm sorry let me get that wrong
[01:14:28] James Norton
[01:14:30] And Liam Neeson
[01:14:34] LaShanna Lynch
[01:14:36] And Martine McClutchin
[01:14:42] Kingsley Ben Adir
[01:14:44] Kiki
[01:14:49] One Love Actually
[01:14:51] It's actually Bob Marley one love actually
[01:14:53] So I will take a point from you
[01:14:55] So now you have 1 point
[01:14:57] You're down to only 1 point
[01:14:59] I like it
[01:15:01] Now I'll open up to you guys
[01:15:03] Do either one of you know both Academy Award winners
[01:15:05] In that film
[01:15:07] Love Actually
[01:15:13] Hugh Grant
[01:15:15] Nope Alex
[01:15:17] I don't know the name
[01:15:19] Of any of the women in Love Actually
[01:15:21] Emma Thompson
[01:15:23] And Laura Linney
[01:15:26] No it's kind of a
[01:15:28] It's not a trick question because it's almost a cameo
[01:15:30] Billy Bob Thornton
[01:15:32] Oh yeah President of the United States
[01:15:34] Here's the next one
[01:15:36] We're going to go with
[01:15:38] These are the ones I don't know how to say her name
[01:15:40] Kaylee Spani
[01:15:44] And Tim Robbins
[01:15:46] Wagner Mora
[01:15:48] And Kirsten Dunst and Tom Cruise
[01:15:50] The Civil War of the Worlds
[01:15:57] And you really got to buzz in
[01:15:59] Kiki
[01:16:01] Naked's point
[01:16:03] Oh Naked's point but he doesn't
[01:16:05] Only if he can name
[01:16:07] Academy Award winner
[01:16:09] Can you give me those names again
[01:16:13] Kaylee Spani Tim Robbins
[01:16:15] Wagner Mora
[01:16:17] Dakota Fanning
[01:16:19] Kirsten Dunst and Tom Cruise
[01:16:21] Again this is
[01:16:23] The Academy Award winner might not be in those three top
[01:16:25] Build actors much like Billy Bob Thornton
[01:16:27] Was
[01:16:29] Emma Thompson were in Love Actually
[01:16:31] But they weren't named so it could be anybody
[01:16:33] In this case it's not but it could be
[01:16:35] I'm going to go Tim Robbins
[01:16:37] It is Tim Robbins and Steven Spielberg
[01:16:39] Directed it so
[01:16:41] What did Tim Robbins before Revolutionary Road
[01:16:43] No it was for
[01:16:45] Shit it was earlier than that
[01:16:47] Can't look it up I'm not
[01:16:49] Yeah of course
[01:16:51] Cold Durham
[01:16:53] It was a drama I believe
[01:16:57] Gosh darn it shrinkage
[01:16:59] It was in the 80's or 90's I think
[01:17:01] War of the Roses
[01:17:05] I almost did that one but I couldn't find any
[01:17:07] I didn't think there was an Academy Award winner in there
[01:17:09] He won for
[01:17:11] Mystic River
[01:17:13] Alright
[01:17:15] Isabella Merced
[01:17:22] Thomas Hayden Church
[01:17:24] Sydney Sweeney
[01:17:26] Scarlett Johansson
[01:17:28] Dakota Johnson
[01:17:30] Matt Damon
