Episode 210 - You Guys Wanna Go Downtown?

Ben, Brad, and Nate are sorry they took a break, but they've made up for it having a good time talking about movies, which they've never done before. Ben is back to skipping assignments and there are no extenuating circumstances whatsoever, but he still watched stuff like Star Wars. Meanwhile, Brad and Nate watched their assignments, which include surviving in space and ballet dancing.

Plus, journey with us as we talk about the trailers for Joker: Folie a Deux (HA HA LAND!), Transformers One (AUTOBOTS, ROLL OUT AND DON'T COME BACK), and M. Night Shyamalan's Trap (WHAT A TWIST!). Come on downtown with us!

[00:00:00] Hey everybody, Go Go Go Go Flix Yourself, Hey Everybody, Hey Everybody, Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Go Flix Yourself

[00:00:15] Hey everybody, Go Flix Yourself

[00:00:17] Hey everybody, it's another episode of Go Flix Yourself. My name is Ben Conowitz and with me as always is the

[00:00:24] Showtime to my HBO, Brad Vernoman

[00:00:27] Hey that's me. We get a little bit naughty. And the Cinemax to my HBO, Nate Laux

[00:00:34] Wavy lines, wavy lines, wavy lines, maybe a bit

[00:00:37] I almost saw a nipple. Wait is that a manual in space? I don't know.

[00:00:45] Cinemax was where the good stuff was. We called it Skinna Max

[00:00:50] We came up with it. We called it Skinna Max and we thought we were pretty cool.

[00:00:57] Did you guys pay for Cinemax? No, there was at one point. Your dad did.

[00:01:03] Oh they did for sure. We had HBO, Cinemax and Showtime when I was growing up because I like movies.

[00:01:10] No, it's because they were rich. No, honestly because my mom and dad love movies. The reason I got into movies in the first place

[00:01:15] by the way this is Go Flix Yourself. It's a movie podcast where we talk about movies and trailers and whatever.

[00:01:20] They love movies. My mom and dad got it because my grandfather, Mel and my grandmother

[00:01:28] they were cinephiles back in the day too. You know what? They actually would rent the VCR over in Marriville

[00:01:34] and rent like nine tapes on a credit card and then my mom would get the

[00:01:38] Oh that was like a credit card. You get the VHS tape or sorry the VHS player and then everybody would get it for like three days of the two week rental.

[00:01:49] So you'd have to watch all nine movies so my mom and dad would watch the movies and then take it to their brother's house

[00:01:54] and they did that back in the 70s. They're cinephiles and that's why we had it.

[00:01:59] One time they did one of those things. Also they were fucking rich.

[00:02:03] Where they did like a trial run of the movie channels to get you to sign up and ours just never went away.

[00:02:09] So we had the movie channels for like doing like Homer Simpson. They're stealing cable.

[00:02:14] No, no. We seriously just got them for a solid decade and they like they decade.

[00:02:19] They seriously never went away.

[00:02:21] I wouldn't say that in the mic. They'll charge you somehow now.

[00:02:24] Oh yeah. I'm sure multimedia cable which isn't even a company anymore is going to come back.

[00:02:28] They're going to be brought out by Xfinity. I'm sure.

[00:02:31] Comcast and now they're called Xfinity.

[00:02:34] Well you know I'm just I'm just cutting the quick here.

[00:02:36] Yeah well you don't understand how. So business works.

[00:02:39] Your dad demanded that you guys have cinematics right.

[00:02:42] No my mom but I do.

[00:02:45] My mom's the one who likes soft core porn.

[00:02:47] That's why whenever I go over there and I just find a box of blank VHS tapes I throw them away.

[00:02:52] It could be it could be going in a different direction.

[00:02:55] It could be it could be a fifth birthday party or it could be me taping over a birthday party.

[00:02:59] It could be over a fiftieth birthday party.

[00:03:01] Yeah it could be any of those. Did you ever use the VHS all the time dude.

[00:03:06] I had my own porn collection. I mean with city cinemax you know we regret I had like a hit.

[00:03:11] I had the best hits of and like you know whatever like boner.

[00:03:14] Greatest hits honestly. I remember like it's like twenty two minutes fifteen seconds into this one was my favorite scene.

[00:03:20] Yeah because I was a horny little dude. Yeah when I was twenty five.

[00:03:24] Yeah I had some tapes to you. We all did. I never did.

[00:03:28] No I'm pretty sure I talked about this on the podcast because I would record them overnight.

[00:03:32] Oh yeah that's right. That's right. Yeah it's like sophisticated.

[00:03:35] I would record overnight and wait and then the next day when I see what you got.

[00:03:39] Yeah all sweet got a new episode of Hot Springs Hotel.

[00:03:41] So basically Brad would set the lobster trap and then come back like did I catch any lobster tonight.

[00:03:47] I got a lot of lobsters with huge tits.

[00:03:51] A couple times with empty cages like was there like anything that wasn't born at that kind of.

[00:03:57] Oh yeah yeah because like it would only be for like a Brian Gumbel show.

[00:04:01] Yeah you get real sports. You'd get ricochet.

[00:04:06] They're like watching real sex and all of a sudden it turns to real sports and I got to finish.

[00:04:11] But no it was like it was like a more like bright combo.

[00:04:15] It was like a two to three hour window usually that it would happen late at night and then eventually it would change over.

[00:04:22] There was a show called Herman's Head.

[00:04:25] I remember Herman's Head.

[00:04:27] And my parents let me watch it with them which is really weird because in his head he had a lot of fantasies

[00:04:32] like scantily caged ladies and things like that.

[00:04:35] Oh yeah of course.

[00:04:37] And they were fine with me at like I don't know 10 or 11 years old watching that.

[00:04:40] Do you know who was in Herman's Head?

[00:04:42] No I don't actually.

[00:04:44] That makes sense.

[00:04:46] Young Hank's area.

[00:04:48] Yeah he must have been really young at that time.

[00:04:51] So Brad what's the last movie?

[00:04:53] Oh wait I almost forgot.

[00:04:55] No we don't have to do it.

[00:04:57] What's the last movie?

[00:04:59] Nothing.

[00:05:01] What do you mean?

[00:05:03] Hey Ben I'm not going to miss you.

[00:05:05] We talked about this.

[00:05:07] I was going to try to skip the sponsor.

[00:05:09] What's your favorite summer treat?

[00:05:11] You've asked me that before.

[00:05:13] You don't like deliciousness.

[00:05:15] I don't really like treats in the summer.

[00:05:17] What's your favorite shitty treat in the summer?

[00:05:19] You know if I'm honest I like a milkshake.

[00:05:23] What kind of milkshake?

[00:05:25] Just a straight up chocolate milkshake?

[00:05:27] Do you like to get it at the restaurant where you get like the leftovers in the metal tin cup?

[00:05:31] I mean whatever.

[00:05:33] It depends on where I'm at.

[00:05:35] Okay that got aggressive.

[00:05:37] I fucking love when they get you know that you get that metal spoon.

[00:05:42] It's like a milkshake.

[00:05:44] There's a VHS tape of it.

[00:05:46] I guarantee you.

[00:05:48] It stays cold.

[00:05:50] So what did you bring for us today?

[00:05:52] What's your favorite summer treat?

[00:05:54] I enjoy ice cream.

[00:05:56] Cookie dough particularly.

[00:05:58] Okay.

[00:06:00] I also enjoy during the summertime.

[00:06:02] What if Nate just said just getting really fucked up.

[00:06:04] And just get like hammer drunk.

[00:06:06] I don't know if there's anything else that you want to say about this.

[00:06:09] What about when it comes to like do you guys like anything like fruity or tropical?

[00:06:13] I like watermelon.

[00:06:15] Watermelon?

[00:06:17] Push here.

[00:06:19] If I have to have a treat.

[00:06:21] I do think we don't look like people that eat a lot of fruit.

[00:06:23] No, we don't eat a lot of fruit.

[00:06:25] But I will say when I was a kid I did like fruit by the foot.

[00:06:27] Oh okay.

[00:06:29] Was that a problem with your kids?

[00:06:31] Yeah of course it was.

[00:06:33] What are you talking about?

[00:06:35] Did you not do it by the foot?

[00:06:37] Did you not have a childhood?

[00:06:39] Did you get fruit roll-ups?

[00:06:41] Yeah we were poor too but I still got fruit snacks.

[00:06:43] But fruit by the foot.

[00:06:45] Fruit by the foot's name brand brand.

[00:06:47] Fruit by the inches.

[00:06:49] Fruit by the meter.

[00:06:51] The meter's longer than a foot.

[00:06:53] But it was made of just not the right stuff.

[00:06:55] But the fruit by the foot wasn't just 12 inches though, right?

[00:06:57] It was three feet.

[00:06:59] Yeah so it'd be a meter.

[00:07:01] There's not three feet.

[00:07:03] I don't know. I'm making that up.

[00:07:05] It wasn't no.

[00:07:07] No I think it was three feet.

[00:07:09] I don't know.

[00:07:11] We'll look it up.

[00:07:13] I'm going to the computer now boys.

[00:07:15] How long is it?

[00:07:17] Two and a fourth.

[00:07:19] A fruit by the foot is about three feet long.

[00:07:21] Boom!

[00:07:23] A yard, not a meter.

[00:07:25] I didn't say that.

[00:07:27] The joke was meter.

[00:07:29] No.

[00:07:31] Play it back motherfucker.

[00:07:33] What?

[00:07:35] Well now I'm disappointed.

[00:07:37] I do have a fruity treat for you.

[00:07:39] You can't say that.

[00:07:41] Sure I can.

[00:07:43] I didn't say anything bad.

[00:07:45] I said your fruity treat.

[00:07:47] What?

[00:07:49] Don't take that out of the pocket.

[00:07:51] You guys are too woke.

[00:07:53] I'm doing Marge Simpson.

[00:07:55] No leave it.

[00:07:57] It's not Marge Simpson.

[00:07:59] He just sounded like a disgruntled factory worker.

[00:08:01] I'm going to throw it.

[00:08:03] Throw the package.

[00:08:05] Wow guys.

[00:08:07] Over the fucking couch.

[00:08:09] Don't look at the package.

[00:08:11] Don't spoil anything.

[00:08:13] Actually I tell people that all the time.

[00:08:15] Don't look at the package.

[00:08:17] My eyes are up here.

[00:08:19] Oh this is very fruity.

[00:08:21] He's got stuff in him.

[00:08:23] There's some lemon.

[00:08:25] Oh wow.

[00:08:27] It almost reminds me of a gusher.

[00:08:29] You guys like gusher?

[00:08:31] I love gusher.

[00:08:33] I like gusher too.

[00:08:35] What about what's your favorite kind of fruit snack?

[00:08:37] My favorite fruit snack?

[00:08:39] Grape the purple gusher.

[00:08:41] Purple gusher?

[00:08:43] I really like grape flavor things.

[00:08:45] It always tastes like medicine to me.

[00:08:47] Except for grape soda.

[00:08:49] My favorite fruit snack.

[00:08:51] Is this with or with something inside of it?

[00:08:53] It's probably the tropical fruit roll ups.

[00:08:55] What about have you ever had this Scooby snack?

[00:08:57] Fruit snacks are really delicious.

[00:08:59] You know what the ones I miss?

[00:09:01] Are the shark shaped fruit snacks.

[00:09:03] Who made them?

[00:09:05] I think Betty Crocker.

[00:09:07] Remember when you were a kid?

[00:09:09] And those Flintstones fruit snacks?

[00:09:11] No, no, no.

[00:09:13] They mean the vitamins.

[00:09:15] No they were crunchy fruit snacks.

[00:09:17] Well I mean they're vitamins but

[00:09:19] they said they said they were vitamins

[00:09:21] but they tasted like candy.

[00:09:23] Crunchy fruit snacks.

[00:09:25] They were crunchy fruit snacks.

[00:09:27] Yeah they were crunchy.

[00:09:29] I know what you're saying.

[00:09:31] They were vitamins.

[00:09:33] They're like bottle caps.

[00:09:35] I would eat like 100 of those a day.

[00:09:37] That's not good.

[00:09:39] No, it's like M&Ms.

[00:09:41] They were crunchy.

[00:09:43] Crunchy fruit snacks.

[00:09:45] That explains why he had the shitty fruit snacks that one time.

[00:09:47] These are fine.

[00:09:49] These are hard fruit snacks.

[00:09:51] How much did your piss glow?

[00:09:53] I didn't glow.

[00:09:55] It would be really yellow.

[00:09:57] It was thick though. It was a ropey.

[00:09:59] It was like a twizzler.

[00:10:01] You're telling me that those are

[00:10:03] little medicine?

[00:10:05] I mean not medicine.

[00:10:07] Vitamins aren't medicine but

[00:10:09] they were vitamins.

[00:10:11] Do you guys take a

[00:10:13] multi-vitamin?

[00:10:15] No, I took hundreds when I was a kid.

[00:10:17] I don't need to do it anymore.

[00:10:19] I tried to but I'm bad at it.

[00:10:21] I'm on too many medications.

[00:10:23] Too many pills to swallow in the morning.

[00:10:25] Too many statins.

[00:10:27] That's for my ADHD.

[00:10:29] That's for my high blood pressure.

[00:10:31] That's for my herpes.

[00:10:33] That's for the gonorrhea.

[00:10:35] That was the joke in the last few minutes.

[00:10:37] I don't know if you got that.

[00:10:39] It was a pretty good joke there.

[00:10:41] This one is for my wiener.

[00:10:43] I'm on listen approval for my heart.

[00:10:45] And L appeared all for my gout

[00:10:47] which is true.

[00:10:49] What are you going to heart medicine for?

[00:10:51] I have high blood pressure.

[00:10:53] Look at me.

[00:10:55] I'm a dump truck of a human being.

[00:10:57] And I mean like a used rusty one

[00:10:59] that nobody likes.

[00:11:01] The kind that you see for sale

[00:11:03] all kind of fall in.

[00:11:05] It's the price on it and it was

[00:11:07] just shittily scratched out and lowered.

[00:11:11] So these are Twizzlers.

[00:11:13] Nicky, tell me what the bag says.

[00:11:15] I forget what the actual name is.

[00:11:17] They're filled twists.

[00:11:19] Yes, they're filled twists and it's

[00:11:21] pink lemonade flavor on the inside.

[00:11:23] They're pretty good actually.

[00:11:25] Very good tropical flavor.

[00:11:27] I like these a lot.

[00:11:29] These are delicious.

[00:11:31] This is a little dump truck Conowitz

[00:11:33] coming at you live.

[00:11:35] Old rusty broken down dump truck

[00:11:37] discount Conowitz.

[00:11:39] Let me just aliparal all it up

[00:11:41] and I'll limp on over and say hi.

[00:11:43] Amen brother.

[00:11:45] You guys want to talk more about herpes?

[00:11:47] When was your first case of herpes?

[00:11:49] The year was 1989.

[00:11:53] I just got down last year.

[00:11:55] I was 8 years old.

[00:11:57] You know in Bergsgy it's called the

[00:11:59] trippies.

[00:12:01] I'm going to give you that one.

[00:12:03] I'm going to laugh and moot tonight buddy.

[00:12:05] You got me.

[00:12:07] It's called the jirppies.

[00:12:09] Well everyone stop listening.

[00:12:11] The height of comedy is what guys just

[00:12:13] happen.

[00:12:15] The last movie I saw was my assigned

[00:12:17] movie and when I tell you what this

[00:12:19] movie is about see if you can guess

[00:12:21] who assigned it to me.

[00:12:23] This is a movie about a young boy

[00:12:25] living in England

[00:12:27] about 10 or 11 years old

[00:12:29] who he goes to boxing lessons

[00:12:31] but then he takes an interest in ballet

[00:12:33] and he really wants to

[00:12:35] get into ballet dancing and his dad

[00:12:37] is like uh-uh.

[00:12:39] That's for girls like get the fuck out

[00:12:41] of the way.

[00:12:43] You're going to do boxing and you're

[00:12:45] going to stay home and take care of your grandmother

[00:12:47] or something.

[00:12:49] Or something? Did you watch the movie?

[00:12:51] But he wants to keep doing it so he keeps

[00:12:53] taking lessons like in private and he's

[00:12:55] really good. He's a great dancer

[00:12:57] and so that's what the movie is.

[00:12:59] It's called Billy Elliot.

[00:13:01] Now listeners who do you think

[00:13:03] assigned me that movie?

[00:13:05] And if you're thinking Nate Lauch's

[00:13:07] you're wrong because it came from

[00:13:09] the movie that you assigned to me

[00:13:11] because I would expect this from Nate

[00:13:13] but not expect it from old Ben Conowitz.

[00:13:15] What year did that come out?

[00:13:17] 2000. Yeah so I remember watching it

[00:13:19] with my parents like I was home

[00:13:21] from college or whatever it was. And they forced you to watch it

[00:13:23] and you didn't have a date that night.

[00:13:25] Big family

[00:13:27] movie house you know.

[00:13:29] So I remember the first time I saw the full

[00:13:31] Monty was with my parents. They really

[00:13:33] loved that I watched The King's Speech

[00:13:35] with my parents. All these movies that I know.

[00:13:37] I think they do. I probably

[00:13:39] have seen a lot of British films with my parents.

[00:13:41] That's funny. But yeah

[00:13:43] it's really funny that I named those three.

[00:13:45] But you know I mean it's a delightful film.

[00:13:47] No it really is. It's like the beginning

[00:13:49] of Jamie Bell's career. Yeah it's young

[00:13:51] Jamie Bell who if you don't know Jamie Bell

[00:13:53] he was in Jumper he was in King Kong.

[00:13:55] Oh no wait I think I meant to give you searching for Bobby Fisher.

[00:13:57] Well that makes sense.

[00:13:59] But yeah it's just it really is

[00:14:01] just a wonderful

[00:14:03] movie. The guy who plays the father

[00:14:05] played

[00:14:07] McLuhan in Gangs of New York

[00:14:09] who's like a real kind of like

[00:14:11] British like one of Bill the Butcher.

[00:14:13] Oh wait what's his name?

[00:14:15] I forget his real name. He's not super famous

[00:14:17] or anything. He's a character actor.

[00:14:19] Yeah he kind of looks like Cole Meany.

[00:14:21] Yeah kind of. Yeah a little bit

[00:14:23] I can't remember his name.

[00:14:25] It's Chris from Mince Pross.

[00:14:27] It's not.

[00:14:29] Nick Lovin.

[00:14:31] Nick Lovin.

[00:14:33] I really like this movie a lot. I had been

[00:14:35] meaning to watch it for a while too because

[00:14:37] I knew what it was and like just it was

[00:14:39] a bit of a prestige movie too.

[00:14:41] It got nominated for Best Director and Best

[00:14:43] Screenplay. I did not know that when I gave it to you.

[00:14:45] Best Supporting Actress.

[00:14:47] But yeah it's very very good.

[00:14:49] Gary Lewis

[00:14:51] plays the father. Got you.

[00:14:53] So yeah that's the last movie I saw was

[00:14:55] the one that I was assigned. Watch anything else.

[00:14:57] I did watch some other things.

[00:14:59] I went to go see the first

[00:15:01] Omen.

[00:15:03] And that is not anyone in my family.

[00:15:05] It is.

[00:15:07] My great great great grandpappy.

[00:15:09] There's a

[00:15:11] Because you're Irish.

[00:15:13] Oh yeah.

[00:15:15] What?

[00:15:17] That's Jamaican.

[00:15:19] Oh yeah man.

[00:15:21] Just gets worse. Wow. We going down.

[00:15:23] What are you doing?

[00:15:27] And by the way what classic Jamaican

[00:15:29] phrases that we going down

[00:15:31] down. Oh slapping my base.

[00:15:33] That one I get but we're going

[00:15:35] downtown.

[00:15:37] You ever heard them say that?

[00:15:39] Jamaican people always say we're going downtown.

[00:15:41] Yeah.

[00:15:43] Downtown.

[00:15:45] Oh we going downtown.

[00:15:47] Idiot. I saw the first Omen

[00:15:49] which is a prequel to the Omen

[00:15:51] the original horror movie.

[00:15:53] Prequel dude the second Omen.

[00:15:55] See he's got jokes.

[00:15:57] Wow Brad was not happy with that name.

[00:15:59] I swear to God if you eat all those twizzlers.

[00:16:01] Oh my God yeah wait whoa dude.

[00:16:03] Yeah you can't just sit there and keep chomping

[00:16:05] twizzlers throughout the entire night. We're going to hear you smack

[00:16:07] your lips. Who said?

[00:16:09] Me? I'm the snack?

[00:16:11] Do you want to be like Luke Starky? You got a couple of ice you want to chew into the mic too?

[00:16:13] Yeah seriously.

[00:16:15] But yeah so this movie

[00:16:17] came out a week after Immaculate

[00:16:19] has a very similar

[00:16:21] story.

[00:16:23] Kind of a Rosemary's baby riff

[00:16:25] that's a little bit of a different

[00:16:27] way.

[00:16:29] But it is very very good.

[00:16:31] There's some pretty twisted stuff

[00:16:33] in it. It's pretty spooky.

[00:16:35] Definitely a solid

[00:16:37] demonic

[00:16:39] baby

[00:16:41] and devilish church kind of thing.

[00:16:43] Nate do you like those kind of horror movies or do they hit too close to home?

[00:16:45] Nate doesn't like any horror movie. We've been over this.

[00:16:47] But he does watch them.

[00:16:49] When we give them to him.

[00:16:51] Yeah I know.

[00:16:53] I've been watching them for years to

[00:16:55] feel my life was such

[00:16:57] horror.

[00:16:59] But

[00:17:01] how would you rate this as one of the

[00:17:03] better horror films you've seen lately?

[00:17:05] Yeah

[00:17:07] I would say so.

[00:17:09] It's great performances.

[00:17:11] Pretty gruesome stuff.

[00:17:13] Solid.

[00:17:15] Some shocking moments I think too.

[00:17:17] Things that I was not expecting.

[00:17:19] They're just gross and

[00:17:21] I'm looking at the

[00:17:23] I don't really

[00:17:25] recognize many of the names in the

[00:17:27] Yeah

[00:17:29] Bill Nighy is in it.

[00:17:31] Is it Nighy or Nighy?

[00:17:33] I don't know one of the two.

[00:17:35] I call Bill Knightley.

[00:17:37] It's always one of those that I never know and I don't say

[00:17:39] confidently.

[00:17:41] So yeah so the first

[00:17:43] it's in theaters and if you do like horror movies

[00:17:45] I would recommend checking that one out because it's a good time.

[00:17:47] Very enjoyable.

[00:17:49] And then I also watched

[00:17:51] The Idea of You

[00:17:53] which is a new

[00:17:55] romance.

[00:17:57] I hesitate to call it like a full romantic comedy

[00:17:59] because if I say that you're going to expect it to be

[00:18:01] really funny and it's not

[00:18:03] really funny not because it's

[00:18:05] unfunny but because it's not trying

[00:18:07] to be very funny if that makes sense.

[00:18:09] So is it more like

[00:18:11] sleepless in Seattle where there's a couple

[00:18:13] funny moments but it's definitely not a comedy?

[00:18:15] Absolutely.

[00:18:17] It's directed by Michael

[00:18:19] Schoelwalter actually.

[00:18:21] But it's not?

[00:18:23] No I know.

[00:18:25] The big sick is hilarious but it's also a great romance.

[00:18:27] More recently he's been leaning into

[00:18:29] Sorry Nate I got

[00:18:31] a pull quote on the poster

[00:18:33] for the big sick.

[00:18:35] When they quoted me

[00:18:37] What did you say?

[00:18:39] It was the most bombastic movie

[00:18:41] of our times.

[00:18:43] It's impressive.

[00:18:45] I'll continue.

[00:18:47] Anything you want to add?

[00:18:49] More recently.

[00:18:51] Any course corrections you want to make?

[00:18:53] No I'm good.

[00:18:55] The listeners know

[00:18:57] and they have receipts.

[00:18:59] I don't know that they

[00:19:01] a little big for your britches everybody.

[00:19:03] I don't think anybody knows.

[00:19:05] It's called big sick not big britches.

[00:19:07] I said it was the most

[00:19:09] authentic romantic comedy in years.

[00:19:11] No you couldn't say it.

[00:19:13] It was on the poster

[00:19:15] and buses and billboards.

[00:19:17] I was going to give you so much props.

[00:19:19] I'm proud.

[00:19:21] I was going to give you so much

[00:19:23] props for moving on.

[00:19:25] I really was. I mean organically in my soul.

[00:19:27] I was like oh my god he's actually going to one up me here.

[00:19:29] And then you didn't.

[00:19:31] You fucking fell right into it.

[00:19:33] You just couldn't stop yourself.

[00:19:35] I won't up you by

[00:19:37] destroying your bullshit.

[00:19:39] Oh boy buddy.

[00:19:41] Walter has gotten a little more serious

[00:19:43] recently with his work

[00:19:45] because he did spoiler alert

[00:19:47] which is like more of a

[00:19:49] kind of like a sad romance

[00:19:51] with Jim Parsons.

[00:19:53] And then he also did The Eyes of Tammy Faye

[00:19:55] which was that movie about

[00:19:57] Tammy Faye.

[00:19:59] And this is more of a pure

[00:20:01] romance. There are some amusing.

[00:20:03] I did not realize that was Michael Scholl watcher

[00:20:05] that did that. That was a

[00:20:07] performance is fantastic.

[00:20:09] I know that he could have done much with the direction

[00:20:11] because the plot itself was just

[00:20:13] very by the numbers.

[00:20:15] For sure. And like I think what he brought to it though

[00:20:17] is he let it play out

[00:20:19] in a way where it was naturally funny

[00:20:21] without mocking the bakers or doing

[00:20:23] anything. So I will say in that

[00:20:25] so the light touch of that

[00:20:27] director. Yeah.

[00:20:29] I agree because you could easily just

[00:20:31] turn it on like look at how horrible these humans are

[00:20:33] but to find

[00:20:35] Tammy Faye

[00:20:37] is horrible a little bit. Yeah. It's hard to do.

[00:20:39] And that's I think that's one thing I've noticed

[00:20:41] with his movies that aren't straight up

[00:20:43] comedies is one of the things that he is

[00:20:45] very, very good at.

[00:20:47] And it's why I love The Big Sick and like to go

[00:20:49] back to my quote though

[00:20:51] is that he's very good

[00:20:53] at finding authenticity within characters

[00:20:55] and how to portray them

[00:20:57] especially in the scripts that he writes. Like he just knows

[00:20:59] how to make things feel natural.

[00:21:01] And so the idea of you is his latest movie

[00:21:03] it is more of a pure romance

[00:21:05] trailer. You might watch him

[00:21:07] be like okay because I saw the trailer

[00:21:09] and I was like oh okay. Alright yeah

[00:21:11] like I'm kind of like I don't I wish

[00:21:13] I'm kind of disappointed that Michael

[00:21:15] Schruelwalter did this because it didn't really seem like

[00:21:17] his style even with his like what he's done

[00:21:19] more recently. But it starts

[00:21:21] Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzen

[00:21:23] and it's kind of a

[00:21:25] nodding hill situation where she

[00:21:27] meets this younger kid who

[00:21:29] is part of a boy band who is

[00:21:31] like Coachella and they accidentally

[00:21:33] meet and he

[00:21:35] you know is like interested in her

[00:21:37] and so they strike up a romance

[00:21:39] where she's in her 40s and he's in his

[00:21:41] 20s. Yeah, she's

[00:21:43] she just turned 40 and he's

[00:21:45] in his 20s and he

[00:21:47] really likes her and she

[00:21:49] it has hesitant but you know they

[00:21:51] have they start a relationship

[00:21:53] and but it really

[00:21:55] the way it digs into the characters and the way it's presented

[00:21:57] I was very disarmed by how

[00:21:59] pure the romance

[00:22:01] was and how

[00:22:03] well drawn the characters

[00:22:05] were and I really appreciated

[00:22:07] what Schruelwalter brought to the table

[00:22:09] because it's a story

[00:22:11] that feels cheesy on

[00:22:13] the surface and you feel like

[00:22:15] you know what it's going to do but

[00:22:17] it really brings it together in a

[00:22:19] package that does make

[00:22:21] you understand the position

[00:22:23] that they're in and the

[00:22:25] struggle that comes with

[00:22:27] being in a relationship with a famous person

[00:22:29] and not just on a surface level thing but

[00:22:31] like just like the

[00:22:33] like Anne Hathaway deserves

[00:22:35] so much credit too for this too because

[00:22:37] she just really breathes life into this character

[00:22:39] and I was super impressed by it. Longshot vibes?

[00:22:41] Longshot is a lot funnier.

[00:22:43] Okay.

[00:22:45] This is more of a straight romance. Yeah,

[00:22:47] because Longshot really goes for big jokes

[00:22:49] there's maybe like

[00:22:51] four or five laugh out loud

[00:22:53] moments and like there's no

[00:22:55] obvious joke setting there's no like

[00:22:57] funny like things where people are saying

[00:22:59] like oh geez you look like you know this

[00:23:01] or like oh that's like there's no obvious

[00:23:03] set ups or anything or like punchlines or anything like that

[00:23:05] so it's not this one

[00:23:07] particularly isn't the most authentic

[00:23:09] romantic comedy in years.

[00:23:11] That's true.

[00:23:13] So would you so your pull over this is

[00:23:15] this is not the most authentic romantic comedy

[00:23:17] in years? Yeah exactly. Wow put that on

[00:23:19] put that up. So is this like the story of

[00:23:21] Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles kind of

[00:23:23] so there were rumors that

[00:23:25] there were like older women

[00:23:27] younger. There were rumors that it might be

[00:23:29] kind of about Harry Styles because it is

[00:23:31] a British guy in a boy band and that kind

[00:23:33] of thing and I think that like that's

[00:23:35] an influence that comes from just general

[00:23:37] pop culture. Well there's also that's a pretty

[00:23:39] broad brush right? Yeah. Anybody

[00:23:41] can be a boy band anybody can be an actress.

[00:23:43] And plus with Olivia Wilde like she's also a famous

[00:23:45] person so this is more so about a completely

[00:23:47] non-famous person suddenly

[00:23:49] in a relationship with somebody who is very famous

[00:23:51] More like Notting Hill.

[00:23:53] Right.

[00:23:55] Sorry Nate that was pretty good.

[00:23:57] You got you.

[00:23:59] Are you flipping him off with your foot?

[00:24:01] I don't know.

[00:24:03] You think you were very pointed toes at me.

[00:24:05] Also are you wearing Caprice? What is

[00:24:07] going on here?

[00:24:09] You are wearing Caprice. Are you eating a

[00:24:11] Caprizi salad?

[00:24:13] What is that? What are you doing?

[00:24:15] Caprize? You guys want to go downtown?

[00:24:17] That's not even a Jamaican accent.

[00:24:19] That was

[00:24:21] Hey, it evolves.

[00:24:23] You guys want to go downtown?

[00:24:27] That was basically kind of Australian?

[00:24:31] Don't want to go downtown.

[00:24:33] This is my Jamaican accent where you go

[00:24:35] downtown.

[00:24:37] Okay.

[00:24:39] Downtown.

[00:24:41] But no the idea of you it's going to be

[00:24:43] on prime video in the beginning

[00:24:45] of May I think.

[00:24:47] May 2nd.

[00:24:49] There you go. And it played south by southwest.

[00:24:51] I really like that. I'm actually going to

[00:24:53] interview Michael Schruelwalter in the next couple of days

[00:24:55] about it. Nice. Make sure you tell him it's not

[00:24:57] the most authentic romantic comedy in years.

[00:24:59] That's the first thing I'm going to say.

[00:25:01] Being that this is not the most authentic

[00:25:03] romantic comedy in years, what would you say?

[00:25:05] Do you still fight any pride in making it?

[00:25:07] Yeah. I watched your shitty trailer.

[00:25:09] Let me tell you.

[00:25:11] If you watch the trailer you'll be like,

[00:25:13] I don't need to see that. Fair enough.

[00:25:15] Come on studio do a better job of cutting Michael

[00:25:17] Schruelwalter's trailers. I agree.

[00:25:19] Tell him. I just did.

[00:25:21] No, no, no he just did.

[00:25:23] I literally just said it. Hey mate!

[00:25:25] What's the last movie you saw?

[00:25:29] The last movie I saw was a movie

[00:25:31] freaking...

[00:25:33] I'm upset mate

[00:25:35] because he still doesn't say fuck.

[00:25:37] He's got a freaking jerky freaking...

[00:25:39] The way he's body moving too you can tell he's really

[00:25:41] unsubbed by that. Yeah.

[00:25:43] I know.

[00:25:45] I've said things to you

[00:25:47] In private.

[00:25:49] In private and in public.

[00:25:51] About the types of movies that I like and don't like.

[00:25:53] Man, I forgot what you gave him.

[00:25:55] Now I'm on the edge of my seat.

[00:25:57] Audience, I don't even know what's going on right now.

[00:25:59] There are certain films, types of films

[00:26:01] that I don't enjoy to watch because

[00:26:03] they leave me with nightmares.

[00:26:05] Particularly movies where you're in space.

[00:26:07] I'm not talking Star Wars.

[00:26:09] I'm not talking Star Wars.

[00:26:11] I'm not talking that's fantasy related.

[00:26:13] I'm talking you are tethered

[00:26:15] to a spaceship and

[00:26:17] all of a sudden the tether is gone

[00:26:19] and you're floating.

[00:26:21] And you don't know it.

[00:26:23] And why are you floating, Nate?

[00:26:25] Is it exactly what happens

[00:26:27] in this movie?

[00:26:29] What was lacking to prevent the tether?

[00:26:31] It's called Gravity.

[00:26:33] So this is a film

[00:26:35] It's called Untethered.

[00:26:37] Just two people.

[00:26:39] America's Sweetheart

[00:26:41] and George Clooney.

[00:26:43] America's Handsome.

[00:26:45] Also I would say Space is probably a premium character in the movie.

[00:26:47] Come on.

[00:26:49] Kind of like how New York's a character

[00:26:51] and you've got mail.

[00:26:53] Kind of like Central Perk as a character and friends.

[00:26:55] So this is

[00:26:57] a space film but it's a survival film, right?

[00:26:59] It is a film about two people trying to survive

[00:27:01] and

[00:27:03] everything's going wrong

[00:27:05] and there's so much suspense in this film.

[00:27:07] Because

[00:27:09] I'm kind of surprised you avoided this actually

[00:27:11] because it was a pretty big deal like in the awards

[00:27:13] and everything.

[00:27:15] And it's only 90 minutes long.

[00:27:17] Here's the thing, this is what you don't know about me.

[00:27:19] Because I clearly haven't said it enough.

[00:27:21] I don't like

[00:27:23] space movies

[00:27:25] where I could have a nightmare

[00:27:27] about

[00:27:29] being untethered from the ISS

[00:27:31] and floating into Mars.

[00:27:33] I kind of like floating into Mars.

[00:27:35] I don't like that.

[00:27:37] It's going to take you a long time to float into Mars

[00:27:39] but you're going to be dead a long time before

[00:27:41] you can even register that you're floating into Mars.

[00:27:43] Even if you had a spaceship

[00:27:45] and you were fully stocked with food

[00:27:47] it's going to be a long time to float into Mars.

[00:27:49] So this is only 90 minutes but it felt

[00:27:51] it didn't feel longer.

[00:27:53] It just felt like my senses were

[00:27:55] heightened the whole 90 minutes.

[00:27:57] It's nonstop.

[00:27:59] It is.

[00:28:01] It is a fun film.

[00:28:03] It made me think of space going

[00:28:05] you know like you see these astronauts

[00:28:07] and they're, I think his name is Chris Hadfield.

[00:28:09] He's an astronaut that

[00:28:11] has done multiple and he does a lot of public speaking now

[00:28:13] and things like this.

[00:28:15] He's like you know people are like space is scary.

[00:28:17] He's like no we train.

[00:28:19] We train and we train and we train and we get there.

[00:28:21] We just follow our training

[00:28:23] right and everything works

[00:28:25] and there's contingencies and all these things.

[00:28:27] And then I watch a film like this and I'm like no, no.

[00:28:29] So your next movie I have to give you.

[00:28:31] You know this.

[00:28:33] I don't like.

[00:28:35] I know but we're just going to double

[00:28:37] because instead of space

[00:28:39] it's the same thing.

[00:28:41] But in the middle of the ocean.

[00:28:43] It's a psychological term called flooding

[00:28:45] where we just give you a bunch of stuff

[00:28:47] and you habituate to it.

[00:28:49] It was genuinely a confusing movie to me

[00:28:51] because I was...

[00:28:53] Ben let me ask you are you happy that you brought back some of your IU degree

[00:28:55] for that conversation?

[00:28:57] It's not systematic desensitization

[00:28:59] it's flooding. There's two.

[00:29:01] But I had this long term

[00:29:03] crush on Sandra Bullock

[00:29:05] It's actually the only thing I remember from the movie.

[00:29:07] That existed in this film but also the anxiety of space.

[00:29:09] So it was a very very

[00:29:11] confusing film for me because I'm like

[00:29:13] oh I like Sandy Bullock

[00:29:15] but then I don't like the Sandy Bullocks in space.

[00:29:17] How about the sequence?

[00:29:19] I like Sandy Bullocks but I don't like the Sandy Bullocks in space.

[00:29:21] Come back down.

[00:29:23] Put your feet on the ground Sandy Bullocks.

[00:29:25] Like you don't have to be in space.

[00:29:27] It's just a disambushed conversation.

[00:29:29] Just fucking gets torn.

[00:29:31] As soon as you think oh

[00:29:33] we're gonna make it.

[00:29:35] We're gonna make it after all.

[00:29:37] So good.

[00:29:39] You want to hear another thing I learned from knowledge?

[00:29:41] Hold on did you notice?

[00:29:43] No. I assume you noticed.

[00:29:45] The cool thing about how it was shot yes.

[00:29:47] In space.

[00:29:49] No but really though.

[00:29:51] You did not realize?

[00:29:53] I mean well tell me and I'll tell you if I realize it.

[00:29:55] I'm gonna quote shot to be presented as if it is done in a one single take.

[00:29:59] Oh okay.

[00:30:01] There are no cuts whatsoever.

[00:30:03] I guess now I'm thinking about it yeah but I mean I didn't think about that when I was watching it because I was so stressed.

[00:30:07] And they did do a really kind of cool little Easter egg thing too where

[00:30:11] in one of the shots when they cut

[00:30:13] when they have their space helmets with the visor on

[00:30:17] in the reflection of

[00:30:19] I think it's George Clooney's helmet

[00:30:21] you can see the fake crew

[00:30:23] in space like shooting

[00:30:25] Oh wow.

[00:30:27] They actually did a digital effect to put the crew there.

[00:30:29] That's kind of cool.

[00:30:31] But if you get a chance

[00:30:33] I think you'll be interested in this go look up some of the making of

[00:30:35] as to how they shot this movie.

[00:30:37] No that part is actually fascinating.

[00:30:39] They did shoot it in space.

[00:30:41] Yeah.

[00:30:43] But it is like I said it is more a survival film than a space film.

[00:30:45] Oh for God.

[00:30:47] It is a film where it's almost like

[00:30:49] it's almost a shipwreck film

[00:30:51] right where you're trying to survive

[00:30:53] and you cast away in space.

[00:30:55] Yeah connect deeply to a person

[00:30:57] to try to survive with

[00:30:59] and you know

[00:31:01] you there's also the like you said the psychology behind it as well

[00:31:05] as they realize vast away

[00:31:07] it's pretty good

[00:31:09] I'll accept it.

[00:31:11] Okay.

[00:31:13] But yeah I'm glad you like this.

[00:31:15] I love this movie.

[00:31:17] I did like that was only 90 minutes because I couldn't I couldn't take another minute of that.

[00:31:19] Do you want to hear another thing I learned in college?

[00:31:21] Sure.

[00:31:23] I was in behavioral neuroscience and the professor

[00:31:25] the only thing that I remember from that entire course

[00:31:27] is that he's like do you want to know why people have foot fetishes?

[00:31:29] And I said sure.

[00:31:31] I was and then three other people said sure.

[00:31:33] And then he took off his socks.

[00:31:35] And he started massaging him.

[00:31:37] He said

[00:31:39] your mind

[00:31:41] is made up of compartments that are like

[00:31:43] like apartments

[00:31:45] and some of the walls

[00:31:47] are thinner than others.

[00:31:49] And the Eurasian zone in the brain

[00:31:51] is right next to sensitivity

[00:31:53] in your feet.

[00:31:55] And some people's walls are very thin.

[00:31:57] And so if you have if you touch your feet

[00:31:59] it kind of vibrates that other part

[00:32:01] and he's like depending on

[00:32:03] and he's like this is a very dumb down version of this

[00:32:05] but that's how we explain why people

[00:32:07] some people have fetishes that are some ways

[00:32:09] because the walls between the Eurasian zone

[00:32:11] and those areas are very thin.

[00:32:13] So what are your finishes then?

[00:32:15] Doritos.

[00:32:17] I love space movies.

[00:32:19] So does that mean that like that that my

[00:32:21] the part the Eurasian part of my brain is close to like

[00:32:23] food the area brain that's like for my

[00:32:25] for boobs?

[00:32:27] No I think that's because that's the Eurasian

[00:32:29] thing like oh you don't need you don't really need

[00:32:31] another thing. Oh okay.

[00:32:33] That's actually part of sex so. Gotcha.

[00:32:35] Yeah yeah. Well technically feet are part of sex.

[00:32:37] Yeah well you know and actually

[00:32:39] I'm wrong boobs are not necessarily part of sex

[00:32:41] so I'm sorry I don't we need somebody

[00:32:43] who's bigger and more equipped.

[00:32:45] They and I aren't too sure about that.

[00:32:47] I mean think about it there I mean

[00:32:49] I guess they don't have to be part of sex.

[00:32:51] You know what I mean?

[00:32:53] Yeah but it's a lot more fun if they are.

[00:32:55] You know what I mean.

[00:32:59] This got off so real

[00:33:01] I love how uncomfortable you're getting me in this

[00:33:03] conversation going. Yeah I know I just

[00:33:05] you brought this up. I know but I wasn't thinking

[00:33:07] about the other guys. Hey guys who are some of my

[00:33:09] foot fetishes.

[00:33:11] You're not that great. Don't need them.

[00:33:13] Don't need them when I'm having my sex.

[00:33:15] Listen I love boobs.

[00:33:17] Cool. Did you watch anything else Nate? No that was it.

[00:33:19] That's it. No I just been busy.

[00:33:21] I closed on the house and I moved.

[00:33:23] Congratulations man. Thank you and.

[00:33:25] So you're gonna get a big screen TV in there.

[00:33:27] I've got a 65 inch or so I think I'll bring it.

[00:33:29] That's a good one. I think I'll bring it

[00:33:31] I won't leave it. It's a good one. It's coming with me.

[00:33:33] It's a good one. Good. Excited.

[00:33:35] I just heard that pretty soon

[00:33:37] there's going to be an extremely

[00:33:39] affordable 85 inch TV.

[00:33:43] This is too big. It's getting.

[00:33:45] It's only going to be like it's only

[00:33:47] going to be like 500 bucks. No seriously

[00:33:49] this is too big. It's too big.

[00:33:51] It depends on how big your house is really.

[00:33:53] If you have a big living room like it would be nice

[00:33:55] to have a big TV. And plus and like I

[00:33:57] like you're getting like like like

[00:33:59] vinyl screen size.

[00:34:01] Well that's the thing though is like it's

[00:34:03] you're getting you're getting closer to

[00:34:05] like recreating the home theater experience

[00:34:07] you know it's one of the reasons why

[00:34:09] people aren't going to theaters. I want one

[00:34:11] of those. I want one of those.

[00:34:13] You're so excited about it. Well no I'm

[00:34:15] just I'm just like Brad Oman

[00:34:17] I'm surprised. Do you need to

[00:34:19] stay home. No but I don't

[00:34:21] need a lot of things

[00:34:23] but like I have boobs for sex evidently

[00:34:25] that's just that's just a fact

[00:34:27] I mean would you would you

[00:34:29] be content like what size TV do you

[00:34:31] have right now. What size boobs do you

[00:34:33] have. What size boobs would you

[00:34:35] know Brad would you be content

[00:34:37] with. Listen I'll go down

[00:34:39] to a 32 C but that's it OK

[00:34:41] I might get anything going smaller

[00:34:43] net. No mind mine is 65 to

[00:34:45] 65 C

[00:34:47] so a huge

[00:34:49] bit. I was just thinking

[00:34:51] that that's a quote it's a

[00:34:53] movie we want to be very clear do

[00:34:55] spigolo male jiggaloo anybody's

[00:34:57] mom that's accidentally listening right

[00:34:59] now. Go watch this big low yeah

[00:35:01] we don't actually don't. Yeah I have

[00:35:03] a 65 inch. But I'm just

[00:35:06] interested because I heard how

[00:35:08] cheap you know TV is starting to get

[00:35:10] now because like those that is the

[00:35:12] one thing that the tech of TVs and

[00:35:14] computers that's the thing that the

[00:35:16] consumer index price does fall

[00:35:18] yeah everything else seems to get more

[00:35:19] expensive TVs and electronics do

[00:35:21] do get for sure bigger for

[00:35:23] cheaper. Yeah OK Ben what's

[00:35:25] the last movie you saw. I watched

[00:35:27] I introduced Ashley's two boys

[00:35:29] seven and nine year olds to the

[00:35:31] very first Star Wars movie last

[00:35:33] night. They played the video games

[00:35:35] they built the Lego sets so they kind

[00:35:37] of knew a little bit about it but they

[00:35:39] never actually seen Star Wars so we

[00:35:41] watched Star Wars. What do you think

[00:35:43] what's it like watching with a nine

[00:35:45] and a seven year old. So the seven

[00:35:47] year old is still at that age where he

[00:35:49] has to like he doesn't like to watch

[00:35:51] people die on screen and in Star Wars

[00:35:53] people do die but it's very obviously

[00:35:55] gimmicky and hokey because it's the

[00:35:57] 70s but still when a red laser hits

[00:35:59] people die and they're like you know

[00:36:01] you're too pretty gruesome death there

[00:36:03] are but but that part of it though

[00:36:05] his older brother was telling him that

[00:36:07] you know that you know nobody really

[00:36:09] died because he's at the age where

[00:36:11] he still kind of figure out like do

[00:36:13] people really die in these movies or

[00:36:15] as these actors. And so his older

[00:36:17] brothers say hey you know nobody's

[00:36:19] dying it's fine and then I was

[00:36:21] like no they're dying. I wrote

[00:36:23] them to have nightmares but no it

[00:36:25] was he did that thing where he's

[00:36:27] like it's adorable because he doesn't

[00:36:29] want to stop watching but he needs to

[00:36:31] put it in his head like this is fine

[00:36:33] this is fine this is fine. The older

[00:36:35] one I mean just raft attention could not

[00:36:37] break away. I asked him three questions

[00:36:39] he didn't even look at me like he was in

[00:36:41] it. Also it's kind of funny because

[00:36:43] we live in an age now where kids

[00:36:45] can know so much from toys.

[00:36:47] Legos and toy sets and things like

[00:36:49] that and just going over to people's

[00:36:51] houses for birthday parties and they've got

[00:36:53] toys and things so they knew who

[00:36:55] was on the he's not in this one but

[00:36:57] it's just really funny to me that

[00:36:59] all of these scenes. What about Georgia Banks

[00:37:01] did they ask for George they did not ask for

[00:37:03] Jar Jar but we have at the arcade we've

[00:37:05] got a Star Wars battle pod which one of the

[00:37:07] things you can do in that in that battle

[00:37:09] pod is a 270 degree view you sit in it

[00:37:11] and you fly these things the

[00:37:13] the star trench run yes

[00:37:15] the Death Star trench run is a

[00:37:17] mission in that game

[00:37:19] and both the boys have played that multiple

[00:37:21] times so when that part happened

[00:37:23] they were they knew exactly what it was

[00:37:25] they were all about it so that was really cool

[00:37:27] and I haven't seen Star Wars

[00:37:29] front to back in probably

[00:37:31] five years so it was nice to watch it.

[00:37:33] Are they in a similar position that a lot of kids

[00:37:35] typically end up in

[00:37:37] where they are aware of the zeitgeist

[00:37:39] of Luke I am your father

[00:37:41] do they know Darth Vader Luke's father?

[00:37:43] I didn't ask that because obviously we're

[00:37:45] going to watch Empire next and I want to see

[00:37:47] what it does. I don't know

[00:37:49] not that they're not you know

[00:37:51] smart enough but I don't know if that

[00:37:53] that's not really in the toys right you don't

[00:37:55] see that unless you have

[00:37:57] like a talking Darth Vader

[00:37:59] but it's also such a famous

[00:38:01] thing and it's in pop culture

[00:38:03] because for me

[00:38:05] I never had a moment

[00:38:07] when I was a kid where I was like

[00:38:09] what? because I always knew

[00:38:11] the line Luke I am your father

[00:38:13] so like that's

[00:38:15] it was always in my mind.

[00:38:17] Star Wars days coming up may the fourth be with you

[00:38:19] at the arcade we always do a huge

[00:38:21] last year we did it we're going to blow it out this year

[00:38:23] it's going to be awesome so we're going to try to watch

[00:38:25] at least the first three before May the fourth

[00:38:27] and I do definitely want to see if the kids

[00:38:29] you know if they

[00:38:31] oh that's where that line comes from early

[00:38:33] oh well duh we knew that I don't know you know it's exciting

[00:38:35] to see watch it through their eyes though it's pretty cool

[00:38:37] yeah I'd be interested to hear what that experience is like

[00:38:39] yeah that was neat and then I actually

[00:38:41] I haven't been able to watch too many things I've been

[00:38:43] decently busy like Mr. Nate now you were

[00:38:45] assigned a movie okay well I was assigned

[00:38:47] a movie last night yeah it was like who's fault is that

[00:38:49] what it's not really a fault like

[00:38:51] closing on his house and it was kind of something

[00:38:53] that's why he was busy we're all busy like

[00:38:55] well most of us have busy lives but two of us

[00:38:57] have two of us have busy lives so Nate and I

[00:38:59] are pretty busy I'm pretty much but I did

[00:39:01] I did give

[00:39:03] I did try to get better film

[00:39:05] I do I do want to apologize though you guys

[00:39:07] like one of you guys is definitely

[00:39:09] moving across the country here in the next

[00:39:11] few months you got like very busy okay

[00:39:13] one of you guys definitely flew to Texas

[00:39:15] to figure out like you're new hold on

[00:39:17] one of you definitely also just had a trip

[00:39:19] to Pixar so yeah

[00:39:21] you guys are real fella hold on

[00:39:23] when we ask you when you're moving

[00:39:25] like somewhere in the future I asked

[00:39:27] Brett but I still have a lot of shit to do

[00:39:29] I go Brad what are you specifically doing

[00:39:31] tomorrow to prepare for the trip and

[00:39:33] he goes absolutely nothing

[00:39:35] I have movies to watch that was just

[00:39:37] true

[00:39:39] but no it's it's one of those

[00:39:41] things where like I don't care

[00:39:43] but I did give you a film that I want

[00:39:45] you to watch and I thought it's the new

[00:39:47] would watch it and Paul Sidney Sweeney

[00:39:49] movie nothing like you nobody I

[00:39:51] I watched that

[00:39:53] this just this week yeah I watched I

[00:39:55] was the only one that has seen that and

[00:39:57] like you know what Ben I think there's

[00:39:59] what's called anyone but you there's a

[00:40:01] couple things in there I think you're

[00:40:03] really gonna like is it Brad sex but

[00:40:05] you know what I'm gonna tell you bring

[00:40:07] those expectations down

[00:40:09] no both for what you're going to expect

[00:40:11] and they Sweeney and in the movie I don't

[00:40:13] expect anything from her I expect a solid

[00:40:15] acting job how dare you

[00:40:17] you expect some kind of job no

[00:40:19] watch her act

[00:40:21] close

[00:40:23] same syllable first same first letter

[00:40:25] two different letters

[00:40:27] you are just a degenerate tonight

[00:40:29] tonight

[00:40:31] yeah love on you tonight

[00:40:33] I know I watched anyone but you

[00:40:35] with with Brittany and

[00:40:37] I was not impressed

[00:40:39] I think he like is this got good ratings

[00:40:41] it has some amusing moments

[00:40:43] was it the lack of Jamaican

[00:40:45] actors nobody went downtown

[00:40:47] you got it back

[00:40:49] a little bit there I will give you that

[00:40:51] no they I felt like the script needed

[00:40:53] some punching up the

[00:40:55] jokes didn't land super firmly for me

[00:40:57] it felt a little heightened

[00:40:59] and not like in a way that like I really

[00:41:01] enjoyed well now I don't need to watch it

[00:41:03] because it's better than he says

[00:41:05] okay cool I'll watch it's

[00:41:07] okay now I'm not gonna watch it

[00:41:09] Sydney Sweeney I think has

[00:41:11] a has limitations and

[00:41:13] this is not the role where I felt like I

[00:41:15] I don't think her and Glenn Powell had

[00:41:17] great chemistry to me I think I told you this

[00:41:19] when I when I talked about watches

[00:41:21] she's she's for me doesn't act all

[00:41:23] that well yeah she she's

[00:41:25] I'll tell you she's great in immaculate

[00:41:27] this role where she has to be kind of like herself

[00:41:29] it doesn't fit because I don't think she has

[00:41:31] like an appeal of somebody like

[00:41:33] an an anachendric or like

[00:41:35] a she's not a mila Kunis where like

[00:41:37] yeah she like she doesn't have a personality

[00:41:39] that that helps a romantic

[00:41:41] comedy necessarily stop after the word

[00:41:43] personality Jesus

[00:41:45] I'm just kidding um but no nothing about

[00:41:47] the moment but but she but she is great in

[00:41:49] immaculate I do think that there are certain

[00:41:51] kinds of performances that she is great in this I don't think was

[00:41:53] was better and like yeah they shouldn't have any

[00:41:55] have any chemistry and I especially having

[00:41:57] watched the idea of you after this

[00:41:59] a movie that like where there is

[00:42:01] tangible chemistry between the leads

[00:42:03] and there are some moments that feel

[00:42:05] sexy whereas the sexy moments

[00:42:07] in this movie I was just like oh

[00:42:09] okay like sure where you're watching

[00:42:11] two very attractive people get bone

[00:42:13] it up yeah get a little steamy with each other

[00:42:15] but like I didn't feel bone it up I didn't

[00:42:17] feel any like like sizzling

[00:42:19] attraction between them like you

[00:42:21] like you normally do like in some kind of romance

[00:42:23] like where you normally feel it in your feet

[00:42:25] but yeah

[00:42:27] um but but yeah so I

[00:42:29] was I was disappointed because I what

[00:42:31] Brittany thinks you know I could she fell asleep

[00:42:33] when there was 15 minutes left

[00:42:35] and she did not like it very much

[00:42:37] stellar stellar reviews of Brittany up up to that

[00:42:39] point she was like at one point she was like

[00:42:41] I'm not sure I need to watch the rest of this I think I'm okay

[00:42:43] yeah I didn't have glampowl

[00:42:45] yeah she didn't she didn't like it very much either

[00:42:47] but so yeah I thought it was okay

[00:42:49] okay I'm interested to see what you think

[00:42:51] yeah I can't I can't wait to check it out now

[00:42:53] kind of

[00:42:55] but no I also I watched the movie called

[00:42:57] The Land of Bad

[00:42:59] oh with um Russell Crowe

[00:43:01] and Liam Hemsworth

[00:43:03] so Russell Crowe

[00:43:05] plays a drone pilot

[00:43:07] uh and

[00:43:09] drones are like way bigger than I

[00:43:11] you know I mean I always knew they were

[00:43:13] pretty big but you think of drones is like you know

[00:43:15] the ones you fly yourself but they're basically

[00:43:17] unmanned aircraft they're enormous

[00:43:19] well some of them are well the military ones right

[00:43:21] um so yeah you're about a drone strike

[00:43:23] and you're like oh but these are like half

[00:43:25] half the size of a fucking F-14

[00:43:27] and they've got missiles and shit

[00:43:29] so anyway uh Liam Hemsworth

[00:43:31] plays a character of

[00:43:33] a guy from the Air Force

[00:43:35] that is just supposed to be a tag

[00:43:37] along to this

[00:43:39] these three

[00:43:41] Delta Force guys that go behind

[00:43:43] enemy lines to like rescue

[00:43:45] somebody or whatever and of course

[00:43:47] shit goes bad and

[00:43:49] it's a story about how he

[00:43:51] really needs to

[00:43:53] keep his shit together to try to save

[00:43:55] the day still

[00:43:57] I think the interesting thing about this film

[00:43:59] is that that's typically the movie

[00:44:01] it's just that

[00:44:03] there's definitely no need for the

[00:44:05] Russell Crowe character when you are

[00:44:07] lone-survivoring it right that's a great example

[00:44:09] of the movie that's just like that

[00:44:11] this adds the element of

[00:44:13] the drone and like so they can help him

[00:44:15] sometimes but sometimes they can't because they

[00:44:17] refuel and base and come back and

[00:44:19] there's there's so there's footage there's not footage

[00:44:21] and then there's capability to shoot missiles

[00:44:23] only sometimes you know and you've only got a

[00:44:25] certain amount of payload and so

[00:44:27] the communication between Liam Helmsworth

[00:44:29] and Russell Crowe is one thing but also

[00:44:31] Russell Crowe is clearly

[00:44:33] a shlubby like

[00:44:35] you know he's very very good

[00:44:37] at his job but nobody at the base likes him

[00:44:39] yeah and so any excuse they can

[00:44:41] get him to just like hey man fuck off that they would

[00:44:43] do because he rubs everybody the wrong way

[00:44:45] but it's a very

[00:44:47] interesting juxtaposition one if

[00:44:49] you're great at your job but you're not

[00:44:51] liked by your coworkers how that could really

[00:44:53] endanger like at the

[00:44:55] office Christmas party doesn't fucking matter

[00:44:57] but in the military you could be costing a

[00:44:59] special forces unit their lives

[00:45:01] and I really did like that aspect

[00:45:03] and Russell Crowe's got a pregnant wife and she's

[00:45:05] in the hospital about to give birth and he's on

[00:45:07] station so he's like you know I just need to

[00:45:09] check the phone this and that there's just a

[00:45:11] lot going on that actually does

[00:45:13] add to the movie in my opinion instead of a

[00:45:15] detract because I think that you can have that movie

[00:45:17] be super like all over the place like

[00:45:19] why is the wife got me pregnant why isn't that

[00:45:21] but I really in my opinion it was

[00:45:23] cohesive enough that it kept me engaged all time

[00:45:25] and Liam Hemsworth and especially Russell Crowe

[00:45:27] give great performances do you like it

[00:45:29] I really did actually a VOD or

[00:45:31] yeah I read it it was it was in

[00:45:33] theaters for a little bit I think it was

[00:45:35] one of those like AMC exclusive

[00:45:37] engagement kind of things because I saw

[00:45:39] the filmmakers actually

[00:45:41] William Ubank and

[00:45:43] what's the writer's name something for Jero

[00:45:45] David yeah they were promoting

[00:45:47] it a bunch on Twitter when it was

[00:45:49] in theater still but now it's on

[00:45:51] a couple of a couple more things about this just

[00:45:53] real quick that a movie like this has

[00:45:55] a lot of times they have the

[00:45:57] dialogue is shit yeah because

[00:45:59] the three guys that are supposed to have this tag

[00:46:01] along Air Force guy like there's gonna be one

[00:46:03] goes real asshole to him it's not like that

[00:46:05] this was very grounded like okay

[00:46:07] we've got a job to do we're gonna give you a little

[00:46:09] bit of a hard time but what we just need to

[00:46:11] get your shit together and like they clearly have

[00:46:13] a camaraderie even though they're from different

[00:46:15] areas of the Air Force and or different areas

[00:46:17] of the military it just felt like that's what

[00:46:19] those people would really say I suppose

[00:46:21] and I love that rather than like a tongue in cheek

[00:46:23] joke that wouldn't really happen I fucking hate when

[00:46:25] they shoot horn she would get out. It felt slightly less tropey

[00:46:27] Yeah it really did honestly it was

[00:46:29] way less paint by numbers than it could have

[00:46:31] been and I respected it.

[00:46:33] So I would recommend

[00:46:35] going out of your way and maybe

[00:46:37] I'll just assign this movie to you at some point anyway

[00:46:39] there's a movie that these two filmmakers

[00:46:41] teamed up on a while back called

[00:46:43] The Signal that is a sci-fi movie

[00:46:45] it played at Sudden Dance

[00:46:47] it's very good very intriguing mystery

[00:46:49] sci-fi kind of movie cool

[00:46:51] and then they actually

[00:46:53] also worked on underwater

[00:46:55] together oh with

[00:46:57] the Chris and Stuart did you see

[00:46:59] underwater I did okay yes it's great

[00:47:01] yeah no I really liked it yeah I think

[00:47:03] that unfortunately a lot of people

[00:47:05] are have a hard pass on Chris and Stuart

[00:47:07] for some reason fuck those people but

[00:47:09] that's a really good movie some people

[00:47:11] also like they kind of felt like shit on it

[00:47:13] cause they're like oh it's an alien real off

[00:47:15] sure it has elements of alien

[00:47:17] but it has its own merits it's still

[00:47:19] very well done you can do

[00:47:21] something that is homage

[00:47:23] as long as it's well done then why not

[00:47:25] I really liked it underwater is very good

[00:47:27] we'll have to give it to Nate he'll love it

[00:47:29] did I ever give you crawl to watch

[00:47:31] I fucking love that movie

[00:47:33] yeah that is a very

[00:47:35] bank downwards movie oh god it's just silly and fun

[00:47:37] over the top

[00:47:39] not quite like a sharknado but like

[00:47:41] almost there very late

[00:47:43] like classity for sure

[00:47:45] little more bougie little more bougie

[00:47:47] than sorry try to think of it if I saw anything else

[00:47:49] but I don't I don't believe that I did

[00:47:51] Bradford nothing I don't I don't believe

[00:47:53] so not the I mean it'll probably

[00:47:55] come to me and I'll interrupt you later of course

[00:47:57] you know how it works all right

[00:47:59] well I think you know what time it is been

[00:48:01] yeah it's time for you to sing a trailer

[00:48:03] song

[00:48:05] listen I've done a lot of the heavy

[00:48:07] lifting while making the listeners laugh tonight

[00:48:09] you done like a lot of nothing so I'm

[00:48:11] gonna need you guys to come up with a trailer song

[00:48:13] interesting perspective to have

[00:48:15] it's so true it's kind

[00:48:17] of not that true but like

[00:48:19] they felt like you've been adequately funny

[00:48:21] I'm sorry I'm sorry vast away

[00:48:23] are we are we in the same room where that

[00:48:25] got said there's air in this room I said

[00:48:27] vast away and you guys are not but you also

[00:48:29] you also did

[00:48:31] think that boobs were important

[00:48:33] yeah you know what I will I will go to my grave

[00:48:35] and and and be lamenting that

[00:48:37] forever I will

[00:48:39] I will die a rotten

[00:48:41] to the core man because of that I'm sorry

[00:48:43] well you're here first

[00:48:45] that I'm sorry yeah

[00:48:47] yeah this rusty old shitty

[00:48:49] dump truck of a discount

[00:48:51] man oh my god you okay

[00:48:53] I'm having a great time

[00:48:55] it's good everything's fine

[00:48:57] is it yeah I'm so happy

[00:48:59] to be here

[00:49:01] I haven't had a drink in a week

[00:49:03] it's been I'm not sure if my dad loves me

[00:49:05] no I know he does

[00:49:07] I know he does

[00:49:09] hey Ben

[00:49:11] do you want to watch trailers

[00:49:13] Nate loves the

[00:49:15] trailers

[00:49:17] and we watched them twice

[00:49:19] maybe

[00:49:21] okay

[00:49:23] I like it hey Nate and Ben

[00:49:25] here comes the movie trailers

[00:49:27] we watch some trailers

[00:49:29] for some upcoming

[00:49:31] upcoming movies

[00:49:33] they had varying levels

[00:49:35] of quality I'm sure

[00:49:37] and we'll see them in the future

[00:49:39] after the trailers have been

[00:49:41] out

[00:49:43] oh we watched a few trailers

[00:49:45] oh let's

[00:49:47] start with the first one

[00:49:49] let's start

[00:49:51] with the first one

[00:49:53] why are you James Lipson

[00:49:55] Ben

[00:49:57] you first watch the trailer

[00:49:59] for Joker

[00:50:01] fully adieu

[00:50:03] when Joker first appeared

[00:50:05] on the screen

[00:50:07] this obvious cinema

[00:50:09] classic

[00:50:11] this is the trailer for the Joker sequel

[00:50:13] and what's the next trailer we watched

[00:50:15] I don't care

[00:50:17] I don't care

[00:50:19] I'm gonna confess I did not see the

[00:50:21] you didn't see Joker yet okay

[00:50:23] you're fine I would be curious to see what you think about it

[00:50:25] because you're more

[00:50:27] like you were moved from like

[00:50:29] you know what I don't like

[00:50:31] I just don't like boobs

[00:50:33] hahahahahaha

[00:50:37] I just don't like what

[00:50:39] it's like I like Tom Segura

[00:50:41] I just don't like the people that like Tom Segura

[00:50:43] the movie

[00:50:45] Joker the movie is fine

[00:50:47] but I just don't like the people that like the movie

[00:50:49] sorry not like it but just like

[00:50:51] oh

[00:50:53] and this one is only gonna be just the

[00:50:55] worst people that fucking

[00:50:57] oh that's me and my girl

[00:50:59] oh go fuck yourself

[00:51:01] you piece of shit put out the fucking Marlboro light

[00:51:03] and go back to

[00:51:05] your fucking

[00:51:07] they're gonna be slightly weird

[00:51:09] I didn't realize that

[00:51:11] Joker did so well at the box office

[00:51:13] huge hit massive hit

[00:51:15] over a billion dollars this is gonna be big too

[00:51:17] it's got a lot of buzz behind it especially since

[00:51:19] God guys in it as Harley Quinn

[00:51:21] I mean I like Lady Gaga

[00:51:23] I just I will go once

[00:51:25] that further and say I don't even think Joker is

[00:51:27] fine I think Joker is

[00:51:29] a sorely misguided movie

[00:51:31] that doesn't actually have anything to say

[00:51:33] it just so happens to have

[00:51:35] a mesmerizing walking Phoenix

[00:51:37] performance at the center of it that's fair that is the

[00:51:39] best thing for it and I say so when I say

[00:51:41] fine it's like I balance

[00:51:43] that out right like his performance is great

[00:51:45] yeah the movie around it is

[00:51:47] it's Todd Phillips doing taxi

[00:51:49] driver and it's like

[00:51:51] poorly it's like the

[00:51:53] like the fast food version of taxi driver

[00:51:55] you know there

[00:51:57] literally it's like

[00:51:59] he read the cliff notes

[00:52:01] of taxi driver was like

[00:52:03] I get it yeah and it feels like

[00:52:05] this might be like him

[00:52:07] doing

[00:52:09] King of Comedy in New York New York

[00:52:11] yeah but with Joker now so

[00:52:13] cool especially because this is supposed to be

[00:52:15] they're they at first they were calling it a musical

[00:52:17] they've since clarified because like it's supposed to be kind of like

[00:52:19] a jukebox musical where like the music

[00:52:21] will be a very key element

[00:52:23] as far as like you can see there's like fantasy

[00:52:25] musical sequences in it

[00:52:27] I hope he's got something else up his

[00:52:29] sleeve other than like Harley Quinn's

[00:52:31] not real like a Joker

[00:52:33] card

[00:52:35] like obviously like a card would be

[00:52:37] Nate did you this give you any more

[00:52:39] interest to watch the first Joker

[00:52:41] or like

[00:52:43] well yes I

[00:52:45] it's a film that I should see

[00:52:47] the performance is really good

[00:52:49] but

[00:52:51] I watching this I'm like

[00:52:53] there's just nothing about it

[00:52:55] that I love

[00:52:57] even

[00:52:59] the fucking scene where they shoot it from overhead

[00:53:01] and the different color umbrellas

[00:53:03] it's so forced

[00:53:05] you know what my favorite thing about this trailer was at the end the smile

[00:53:07] where the camera angle

[00:53:09] matches the lipstick

[00:53:11] put on the thing I'm like oh it's fun

[00:53:13] that's a fun little thing

[00:53:15] yeah I don't know I'm just

[00:53:17] I'll go see it you know

[00:53:19] even the title is even pretentious though

[00:53:21] quit taking yourself so fucking seriously

[00:53:23] with this is bullshit

[00:53:25] you know

[00:53:27] so you're gonna hate Twitter for like three weeks

[00:53:29] oh god

[00:53:31] it's just more hashtag you know what

[00:53:33] they don't understand people like me in the Joker

[00:53:35] oh fuck your face

[00:53:37] we live in a society

[00:53:39] fuck your fucking face

[00:53:41] well and then it's gonna be right around the election time too

[00:53:43] all the people don't want to vote like all the young men

[00:53:45] they're like uh you know I just

[00:53:47] you don't understand

[00:53:49] I see the system

[00:53:51] the way the system is

[00:53:53] anyway mom's paying the bills

[00:53:55] Joker makes some great points

[00:53:57] hahahaha

[00:53:59] so yeah that's Joker

[00:54:01] follyadoo

[00:54:03] follyadoo

[00:54:05] do meaning to meaning shit

[00:54:07] doos

[00:54:09] we watched another trailer

[00:54:11] Transformers 1

[00:54:13] yeah that's one for piss

[00:54:15] ooh you got a lot of toilet humor

[00:54:17] you're not liking anything

[00:54:19] I'm in a mood boys

[00:54:21] I was pretty disappointed in this trailer too

[00:54:23] this is a new animated version

[00:54:25] of Transformers that will basically give the origin

[00:54:27] of characters like Optimus Prime

[00:54:29] and Megatron and Bumblebee

[00:54:31] it's set on Cybertron

[00:54:33] what's your favorite Transformers memory

[00:54:35] these

[00:54:37] these listeners

[00:54:39] of ours that have been around for

[00:54:41] let's say quite a while

[00:54:43] Nate this is gonna predate you buddy

[00:54:45] we used to have

[00:54:47] a conversation about the cars

[00:54:49] universe on this show

[00:54:51] quite often why do cars have handles

[00:54:53] why is there a school bus

[00:54:55] why are the cows tractors

[00:54:57] they like to be felt

[00:54:59] we get it

[00:55:01] I asked you in this trailer

[00:55:03] for Transformers 1

[00:55:05] I made a joke because

[00:55:07] in the trailer they can't transform yet

[00:55:09] they're young bots

[00:55:11] but then they do transform

[00:55:13] and they transform into cars

[00:55:15] but they haven't been to America yet

[00:55:17] but they don't transform into

[00:55:19] like our cars

[00:55:21] no no they still transform into cars though

[00:55:23] well they transform into like

[00:55:25] a motorcycle

[00:55:27] but I think

[00:55:29] I totally recognize that I agree

[00:55:31] with your sentiment on this

[00:55:33] but I do think in this case

[00:55:35] I'm gonna use some explanation because

[00:55:37] they have to

[00:55:39] that's what they are

[00:55:41] in other societies

[00:55:43] obviously around

[00:55:45] wheel is the fastest way to get around

[00:55:47] so other advanced societies would figure out

[00:55:49] vehicles that have wheels

[00:55:51] and using them in addition to

[00:55:53] vehicles that fly that kind of thing

[00:55:55] so it makes sense to me that they have

[00:55:57] I know

[00:55:59] but if I were someone trying to justify

[00:56:01] this as like a storyteller

[00:56:03] but I'm kind of arch-raining

[00:56:05] also I don't like the fact that they're fucking robots

[00:56:07] but somehow they can get bigger

[00:56:09] is that what it's gonna be?

[00:56:11] are they really gonna grow into like larger transformers?

[00:56:13] well they're aliens too

[00:56:15] well I don't think they necessarily get bigger

[00:56:17] it's just that when they get the ability to be able to

[00:56:19] transform they're able to like

[00:56:21] add parts to themselves? expand

[00:56:23] parts of their body

[00:56:25] either way I don't think this movie looks good

[00:56:27] listen I don't care about this

[00:56:29] I don't care that these are semantics

[00:56:31] I'm dying on this is why I had a stand

[00:56:33] a bit about Transformers fucking

[00:56:35] this is very true it just sounds like a skrillex song

[00:56:37] yeah but it's

[00:56:39] I don't like the look of this movie it looks

[00:56:41] like a Nickelodeon animated series

[00:56:43] from the 2000s

[00:56:45] trying to do something for the kids

[00:56:47] yeah and I get it this is gonna work for kids

[00:56:49] like gangbusters they're gonna love it they're gonna love the jokes

[00:56:51] they're gonna love the vibe between the characters

[00:56:53] it's computer animated

[00:56:55] but I don't like the animation style especially

[00:56:57] now that we're living in a world where spider-man

[00:56:59] into the spider-verse exists and

[00:57:01] Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles mutant mayhem

[00:57:03] you've taken these characters

[00:57:05] and you've given them these incredibly

[00:57:07] mesmerizing visual makeovers

[00:57:09] and then here's Transformers clunkin' in

[00:57:11] looking like a 2007

[00:57:13] animated series from K.L.A.

[00:57:15] it really looks so basic

[00:57:17] it looks like it should be a series on Paramount Plus

[00:57:19] yeah I hate the way their faces

[00:57:21] look there's nothing

[00:57:23] Brad says that about a lot of his enemies

[00:57:25] it just feels hollow

[00:57:27] it feels hollow

[00:57:29] and lifeless

[00:57:31] it just feels like it's trying way too hard

[00:57:33] to be cool

[00:57:35] yeah Eric Henderson

[00:57:37] I would have much rather preferred

[00:57:39] a series where they did

[00:57:41] a cell shaded but more

[00:57:43] detailed almost like version of

[00:57:45] the 1980s cartoon style

[00:57:47] that would have been cool

[00:57:49] I will say Chris Hemsworth

[00:57:51] is doing a pretty decent

[00:57:53] job doing a Peter Cullen

[00:57:55] as Optimus Prime

[00:57:57] he's supposed to be younger

[00:57:59] there's a few lines in there where I was like oh that sounded like Optimus Prime

[00:58:01] Hemsworth is a good actor

[00:58:03] he's solid

[00:58:05] beautiful also

[00:58:07] I've seen him in person

[00:58:09] Brad's met him in person

[00:58:11] but Brad met him

[00:58:13] they have an inside joke

[00:58:15] no you don't have an inside joke

[00:58:17] I'm just trying to call it inside joke

[00:58:21] I'm just saying

[00:58:23] it's great in this too

[00:58:25] Chris Hemsworth, Brian Taylor, Henry

[00:58:27] anything about that joke that you want to

[00:58:29] you want to say or just let that one go

[00:58:31] no I'm fine

[00:58:33] Steve Buscemi

[00:58:35] not even about Ghostbusters

[00:58:37] I'm actually the one who met Chris Hemsworth

[00:58:39] hahahaha

[00:58:41] but yeah

[00:58:43] I was hoping

[00:58:45] this was going to be something that

[00:58:47] got me excited about Transformers again

[00:58:49] in a cool way like Ninja Turtles and Spider-Man

[00:58:51] but I was just so disappointed

[00:58:53] when I read it, I read an article first

[00:58:55] a couple weeks ago about this trailer

[00:58:57] coming out and when I read the cast

[00:58:59] I was like fuck yeah a live action with all these people

[00:59:01] they're finally going to reboot it and do it right

[00:59:03] well not live action

[00:59:05] no that's what I thought it was

[00:59:07] that's a great cast

[00:59:09] you know it would have been incredible

[00:59:11] and now I'm like oh nevermind

[00:59:13] what was the other trailer we watched

[00:59:15] we watched the trailer for a trap

[00:59:17] which is M Night Shyamalan's

[00:59:19] the most famous actress in this movie

[00:59:21] Shama-La-Malan

[00:59:23] Josh Hartnett

[00:59:25] who is on a comeback

[00:59:27] thanks to Oppenheimer

[00:59:29] Oppenheimer did some favors

[00:59:31] and he's returning

[00:59:33] Josh Hartnett's doing himself some favors

[00:59:35] he's a solid actor

[00:59:37] he specifically took time off after

[00:59:39] he could have been bigger than he was

[00:59:41] but he said no

[00:59:43] he's always been a solid actor

[00:59:45] and I'm glad that he's getting this opportunity

[00:59:47] I had a weird burp

[00:59:49] I thought you were getting emotional

[00:59:51] did you go?

[00:59:53] watch the trailer

[00:59:55] no go watch this trailer

[00:59:57] pull your car over

[00:59:59] because the trailer itself has a twist

[01:00:01] like an M Night Shyamalan movie

[01:00:03] it gives away the film

[01:00:05] I don't think it does though

[01:00:07] because I guarantee you there's going to be something else that

[01:00:09] ends up coming out

[01:00:11] I don't know if M Night Shyamalan is known for anything

[01:00:13] it's a straightforward

[01:00:15] plot

[01:00:17] okay then

[01:00:19] predict the twist

[01:00:21] what a twist

[01:00:23] my prediction would be that

[01:00:25] everybody did you watch the trailer

[01:00:27] this is your last chance

[01:00:29] let's talk about the trailer first

[01:00:31] and then we'll talk about what the twist will be

[01:00:33] I love this trailer

[01:00:35] it's a really cool trailer

[01:00:37] I love the setup, I love the payoff

[01:00:39] I love how it reveals what it is

[01:00:41] I'm very intrigued to see how

[01:00:43] the whole thing plays out

[01:00:45] it's such a fun concept for a thriller

[01:00:47] so it starts off with Josh Hartnett

[01:00:49] just taking his younger daughter

[01:00:51] to a Beyonce or Taylor Swift level

[01:00:53] concert

[01:00:55] and it's just father daughter

[01:00:57] dad this is

[01:00:59] these seats slap I'm so happy to be here

[01:01:01] you see dad trying hard to connect with his daughter

[01:01:03] dad goes hey I'm going to leave you in the seat

[01:01:05] I'm going to go get some popcorn or whatever

[01:01:07] and he leaves her and he goes up to the concession stand

[01:01:09] and he notices that there are

[01:01:11] cops at the doors

[01:01:13] seems like there's a lot of police activity happening

[01:01:15] cameras and so he asks

[01:01:17] hey what's going on with all the cops

[01:01:19] a very overly helpful security card

[01:01:21] I don't know why we're talking about this

[01:01:23] if you haven't just watched the trailer

[01:01:25] but the crazy part to me is that

[01:01:27] I'm sure there's more to it

[01:01:29] maybe he had interactions with him before

[01:01:31] because the setup and this is a stranger

[01:01:33] I'm not supposed to tell you this

[01:01:35] but I'm going to tell you this

[01:01:37] so clearly there's probably

[01:01:39] like hey I'm so and so like what's

[01:01:41] let me ask you that I'm going to

[01:01:43] that's my guess is that he's interacted with him before

[01:01:45] this is like the second or third time he's interacting

[01:01:47] anyway the guy tells him oh you know

[01:01:49] that killer that they're fucking looking for

[01:01:51] they're gonna they're gonna this whole thing

[01:01:53] is a trap yeah and they're gliding the building

[01:01:55] with all these cops that's where the name of the

[01:01:57] movie and Josh Hartnett

[01:01:59] Josh Hartnett checks his camera at his

[01:02:01] house and it says basement cam

[01:02:03] and there's a young man tied up

[01:02:05] and he is the butcher he is also

[01:02:07] that's another place for the movie

[01:02:09] so now that now that we all

[01:02:12] because I wanted to explain it just for those that

[01:02:14] didn't pull over but still wanted to know what was going on

[01:02:16] yeah so now that you know the plot of the film

[01:02:18] or what we think the plot of the film is

[01:02:20] M9 shaman on me up Brad

[01:02:22] what do you think the twist is first of all I just

[01:02:24] again I just want to reiterate how cool this trailer

[01:02:26] was because I am I'm now very excited

[01:02:28] to see this movie it's rare I think that you get

[01:02:31] a trailer that kind of like reveals itself

[01:02:33] like this and has like a cool surprise

[01:02:36] do you give it to M9 shaman because you know there's

[01:02:39] like this is enough like if you if it's not

[01:02:42] M9 you go well I just watched the whole film

[01:02:44] no I do but with him you're like oh there's gonna be more

[01:02:46] yeah because that's clearly the setup

[01:02:48] but like there's so much that needs to have

[01:02:50] I love that you only know that because of who the filmmaker is

[01:02:52] exactly he has earned that right yeah and

[01:02:54] I and he did say like there was an interview he did afterwards

[01:02:57] too of like of like giving that up he's like he's like

[01:03:00] well honestly he's like I don't know what else

[01:03:02] you do like if you don't give that up like that's

[01:03:04] like how do you tell people comes to the

[01:03:06] yeah exactly but yeah it's for me it's it's basic

[01:03:12] that's the prediction that I'll make is that

[01:03:14] Josh Hartnett is not the only one who is

[01:03:18] like the butcher and that his daughter is also

[01:03:21] in on it ooh daughter in on it so that's a move

[01:03:25] that's it would be like that's a choice

[01:03:28] exactly and it'd be pretty twisted yeah those are

[01:03:30] twisted okay all right and she's trapped in a cycle

[01:03:32] so yeah father daughter so you're a despair

[01:03:34] I think Josh Hartnett is not the butcher

[01:03:38] but he's just another killer

[01:03:40] you want to let me finish her

[01:03:42] just another killer of the show just I oddly

[01:03:45] I think well there's a lot of killers that you don't know about

[01:03:47] I think he's not the butcher but I think he is

[01:03:50] I think the whole thing is a setup for

[01:03:52] the actual butcher has forced him to be there

[01:03:55] with his daughter and that person he is like his best friend

[01:03:58] or something and he's like I'm gonna kill this person

[01:04:00] if you don't act like you're the butcher oh interesting

[01:04:02] that's what I think that could be pretty cool

[01:04:04] I'd be down with that

[01:04:06] I think it is what the trailer

[01:04:11] Josh Hartnett's the butcher and he's just got to figure

[01:04:13] a way down and guess what if it would be the best

[01:04:16] and yeah and there and there's still a

[01:04:18] different twist that we haven't figured out

[01:04:19] then more power I just think that it's just

[01:04:21] straight forward and I'm trying to let is like

[01:04:23] and and like a fiend at the end Josh Hartnett

[01:04:26] gets caught

[01:04:29] the whole time it's just so straight forward

[01:04:31] you guys are waiting you guys are waiting

[01:04:33] but I saw it the whole time

[01:04:35] stomach is in knots

[01:04:36] I saw it the whole time

[01:04:37] it's on the very last frame of the movie

[01:04:39] they're like what the fuck he just got caught

[01:04:41] it takes place in Philadelphia though

[01:04:43] so maybe

[01:04:45] do you think there's a line in the movie where

[01:04:47] Josh Hartnett's scare goes it's me I'm the butcher

[01:04:50] I hope that Bruce Willis shows up as unbreakable

[01:04:52] oh let's just say it now

[01:04:54] why

[01:04:56] a phasor related incident spread

[01:04:58] I think he broke

[01:04:59] oh so because he has a phasor he can't be a superhero now

[01:05:01] yes pretty rude man

[01:05:03] yeah man pretty clear

[01:05:04] actually that's exactly what it means

[01:05:06] no just because you have conditions doesn't mean

[01:05:08] you can't do things

[01:05:09] I have termed van conditions

[01:05:12] alright well it's been fun

[01:05:14] thanks for coming to the podcast

[01:05:16] one day we'll write a game one day

[01:05:18] we will I'll do one

[01:05:20] and one day we'll have

[01:05:22] a hundred episode and we'll have a 200

[01:05:24] episode but that's not what you're here

[01:05:26] because you love us yeah but we probably should

[01:05:28] do that before yeah one day before

[01:05:30] before the show to the world ends

[01:05:32] yeah maybe one day

[01:05:34] Ben will start appreciating boobs again

[01:05:36] and you know what don't count

[01:05:38] not a day too soon

[01:05:40] but yeah well we'll have to make that happen

[01:05:42] we'll have to get some some people to come

[01:05:44] downtown

[01:05:47] again that was not even close

[01:05:49] to Jamaican at all I wasn't trying to

[01:05:51] so people coming to downtown

[01:05:53] just because like the two syllables

[01:05:55] downtown are along get downtown

[01:05:57] like down you have taffy in your mouth

[01:05:59] downtown

[01:06:01] I love taffy really that's not a taffy

[01:06:03] Laffy taffy that's not a daffy

[01:06:05] I also love just the taffy you can get

[01:06:07] from the hardware store and the wax

[01:06:09] paper wrappers do you

[01:06:11] do you like hardware store taffy

[01:06:13] that's not the only taffy I guess

[01:06:15] do you like the paper

[01:06:17] hold on a second I want to talk to the

[01:06:19] reveres how much taffy are you eating

[01:06:21] not more than a normal person

[01:06:23] what's the what do you think a normal person needs

[01:06:25] I'm not going to answer that

[01:06:27] I feel like this is a trap

[01:06:29] you're not even like Shyamalan

[01:06:31] you're not eating taffy once a week though right

[01:06:33] no god no once a month

[01:06:35] I got another candy for that

[01:06:37] well that sound means

[01:06:39] we're wrapping up it's time to go to bed

[01:06:41] alright well guys thanks so much

[01:06:43] for being here as always I'm glad

[01:06:45] we're back on there we're gonna obviously
