Episode 205 - Chewed A** Mushroom D***

Ben, Brad, and Nate are on one tonight. Ben and Nate are grumpy because Brad has to be on another podcast. But Ben's also grumpy for other reasons involving a raccoon. Thankfully, Nate is in a good mood, as usual, and he loves a good steak. Ben watched his assignment from last week (Whip It), Brad is on a music documentary kick (Thriller 40), and Nate caught up with a romantic comedy from the end of 2024 (Anyone But You). Plus, we talk about the trailers for Damsel (DRAGON THINGS!) and A Quiet Place: Day One (SHHHHHHH!). Also, Ben has a new character, and he's a pervert! You might be asking yourself, is that about Ben or the character? The answer is yes.

Put your horn in your ear and tune in!

[00:00:00] Hey everybody, it's another episode of Go Flix Yourself.

[00:00:19] My name is Ben Conno, with me is always the Captain Fantastic pinball machine to my Godzilla

[00:00:24] pinball machine, right for no man.

[00:00:26] Hey, that's me.

[00:00:27] I don't know Captain Fantastic is what, is it not good?

[00:00:32] The medieval madness pinball machine to my Godzilla pinball machine, Nate Lau.

[00:00:37] Hey guys are you doing it?

[00:00:39] I mean, it's not even, yeah, it's not even, I don't know what it sounds like.

[00:00:42] Yeah, I just went with an excited because Brad, you didn't sound excited at all.

[00:00:45] I don't really, I can do any makeup in Captain Fantastic.

[00:00:48] Oh, boom, boom, boom.

[00:00:50] Captain Fantastic is a, is a often maligned pinball machine from the 70s featuring Elton John.

[00:00:56] Everybody really likes it.

[00:00:57] Oh, okay.

[00:00:58] And Brad, you actually played pinball, I don't know what any of these mean.

[00:01:02] Yeah.

[00:01:03] Saturday, Saturday, Saturday, Saturday, Saturday, homicloser, Captain Fantastic.

[00:01:10] Bam, bam, these are all from the pinball machine.

[00:01:14] Which Elton John's like was that?

[00:01:15] Oh, that was the key changer right there.

[00:01:17] Okay.

[00:01:18] He knows the key changer.

[00:01:19] I don't know.

[00:01:20] I'm a music guy.

[00:01:21] That's what I knew.

[00:01:22] I don't know pinball but I don't know key changes.

[00:01:23] I don't know pinball but I know key changes.

[00:01:24] I do.

[00:01:25] Hey guys, it's a movie podcast.

[00:01:27] Well, it's a comedy movie podcast.

[00:01:28] It's a pinball podcast.

[00:01:29] It's a little bit of key change.

[00:01:30] I did a pinball thing this time not because I don't own an arcade but because the, my

[00:01:33] movie that I was assigned has one pinball scene in it.

[00:01:36] Is that how you rate movies now?

[00:01:37] How many pinball machines you've seen this?

[00:01:39] Yes.

[00:01:40] Willie, Willie's Wonderland.

[00:01:41] Pretty great.

[00:01:42] Hey, there's a movie called Captain Fantastic with the, with the VGo Morton.

[00:01:45] Yeah, no pinball machines though.

[00:01:46] No, but it's a good movie.

[00:01:47] It's okay but again, no pinball machines makes it less than.

[00:01:50] So did you jizz when you saw five nights at Freddy's then since there were like five pinball

[00:01:54] machines in it?

[00:01:55] Well, now I have to.

[00:01:56] It's all over the list.

[00:01:57] Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:01:58] Wow.

[00:01:59] Spoiler alert though they break them.

[00:02:00] Is that true?

[00:02:01] Yeah, they get smashed.

[00:02:02] It would be very sad for me.

[00:02:03] Yeah.

[00:02:04] They're old though.

[00:02:05] They're not like smashing cool ones necessarily.

[00:02:06] Are they smashing pumpkins?

[00:02:07] You can't really tell which one they are.

[00:02:08] I don't think you might be able to do because like you're better versed but I couldn't

[00:02:11] tell so they're definitely older though.

[00:02:13] They only showed the side art because they were focusing on the characters in the movie

[00:02:16] I watched and I did know what machine it was.

[00:02:18] What was it?

[00:02:19] It's a one from back in the day called Hot Tip.

[00:02:23] That's also Ben's nickname I think.

[00:02:25] Yep, Ben Hot Tip kind of looks like you need a hot tip you call the hotline.

[00:02:28] Oh no, I was talking about because his dick was always red and looked like it was on fire.

[00:02:32] Oh, but they're healed.

[00:02:34] He went to a doctor about that.

[00:02:35] Well, I mean he did.

[00:02:36] He told me.

[00:02:37] It didn't heal.

[00:02:38] They just put like an extra layer on it so like it kind of like like spray skin.

[00:02:41] Yeah.

[00:02:42] Okay.

[00:02:43] Yeah, it's kind of basically just like put a bandit on it.

[00:02:45] It looks worse.

[00:02:46] Would you say is that possible?

[00:02:49] I didn't think you were.

[00:02:51] That's how you see like a.

[00:02:53] Let's just talk to it show it to us.

[00:02:55] Have you ever seen it?

[00:02:56] My doctor did say though he's like it looks worse.

[00:02:58] Have you ever seen a mushroom in the wild that's been like half eaten by a raccoon?

[00:03:03] Uh, yes.

[00:03:04] I get envisioned what that looks like.

[00:03:06] I haven't personally seen that because I don't know why you can't close though because

[00:03:08] that's what you're dickless.

[00:03:09] I don't know if it like look down.

[00:03:11] Recoon specific.

[00:03:12] Look down.

[00:03:13] I don't know if that's well, you don't have to do like a teeth examination to know like

[00:03:16] it's been not on by something.

[00:03:18] By something though, but you said raccoon you were very specific.

[00:03:20] I know raccoons love much on mushrooms.

[00:03:22] Do they?

[00:03:23] I don't know.

[00:03:24] Yeah, and you just said I know and then you said I don't know.

[00:03:26] But that's the thing about Brad is he doesn't know lots of things but he says it's so confident

[00:03:30] he's so confident.

[00:03:31] It's all you gotta do.

[00:03:32] He's so confident.

[00:03:33] He's so confident.

[00:03:34] Do you know JFK once got poisoned by mushrooms?

[00:03:36] It's not true.

[00:03:37] No, no, but I believed it.

[00:03:39] Yeah, that is he told me the other day that his pillow at home was full of goose feathers

[00:03:44] not down feathers goose feathers and I believed him.

[00:03:48] Pretty good.

[00:03:49] I don't like when you lie to me.

[00:03:51] By the way, this is the first episode that we've put-

[00:03:53] So that was like months ago?

[00:03:55] This is the first episode that we've put in our InstaListener gaugin here and as soon

[00:04:01] as we started talking about Ben's junk everyone stopped listening.

[00:04:05] I just had deja vu.

[00:04:07] Weird.

[00:04:08] Cool.

[00:04:09] Are you all mushrooms?

[00:04:10] Hey everybody it's another episode of Go Flicks Yourself with me is always this Brad

[00:04:14] Oman.

[00:04:15] Hey, look at me as he's on the moon.

[00:04:19] It looks weird.

[00:04:20] It looks worse.

[00:04:21] Yeah, it's been a bit of a sped.

[00:04:22] We got it.

[00:04:23] Ben, let me see.

[00:04:24] Do we have a sponsor?

[00:04:26] How do you-

[00:04:27] Yeah, I don't like-

[00:04:28] How do you like-

[00:04:29] Kind of figure this was coming.

[00:04:30] You know what it's a-

[00:04:31] How do you like your steak?

[00:04:33] Medium rare.

[00:04:34] Medium rare.

[00:04:35] Oh interesting.

[00:04:36] How about you?

[00:04:37] How do you like your steak?

[00:04:38] I am the same way I like medium rare but more on the medium to the rare though.

[00:04:42] I need it.

[00:04:43] Yes, yeah I want pink but I don't want it to like be super-

[00:04:47] I can't have like yeah.

[00:04:48] I don't want the blood coming out of it.

[00:04:50] Exactly.

[00:04:51] But I do I don't want it done too much.

[00:04:52] No not at all.

[00:04:53] It's going to really frustrate me.

[00:04:54] If you tell people medium well at the restaurant they're it's going to be dry.

[00:04:57] Yep and so I usually just say medium but-

[00:05:00] Me too.

[00:05:01] Erring on the medium rare a little bit.

[00:05:02] I say medium and very rarely.

[00:05:05] Is it bad?

[00:05:07] Usually they do a pretty good job with the medium.

[00:05:09] Medium though is better than rare for me.

[00:05:12] I do this a lot.

[00:05:13] I sit here and-

[00:05:14] No I'm just-

[00:05:15] I want to talk to the listener real quick.

[00:05:17] A lot of times I think to myself I jump into often.

[00:05:22] I know we-

[00:05:23] I jump in way too often.

[00:05:24] I need to let this play out but then when I do you're you're having meat temperature

[00:05:30] like it's a real conversation.

[00:05:31] It's a real conversation.

[00:05:32] No, no.

[00:05:33] That's what I would have.

[00:05:34] Send that I was talking to the audience.

[00:05:36] This isn't-

[00:05:37] You're not doing a bit.

[00:05:38] You're just literally forgetting your own podcast.

[00:05:40] Fucking two person coverage is about meat temperatures.

[00:05:42] What we would do-

[00:05:43] Yeah I know it's not good.

[00:05:44] Welcome to the podcast.

[00:05:45] It's not-

[00:05:46] We weren't done.

[00:05:47] I get that exactly.

[00:05:48] I saw you take-

[00:05:49] Brad took the deepest breath like he was gonna go and another thing about meat

[00:05:54] temperatures that I liked to get into the types of potatoes.

[00:05:57] I really want with our meat.

[00:05:58] I know not even close and now you put A1s in the top.

[00:06:01] Oh no no no no no this is the intersting.

[00:06:03] I hate A1s.

[00:06:04] No, I don't want A1s so-

[00:06:05] You know I get a little bit of butter on it.

[00:06:07] I've had that before that.

[00:06:08] Yeah that's good.

[00:06:09] You know what I do you like to do some time too?

[00:06:10] Get out your phone, start.

[00:06:11] They don't do this everywhere but if you get a steak at Texas Roadhouse they'll put Jack

[00:06:14] cheese on it.

[00:06:15] Love me some jack.

[00:06:16] Hey I just don't-

[00:06:17] If it's a good steak, it doesn't need any-

[00:06:18] No no I'm not saying it needs it.

[00:06:20] I just like it.

[00:06:21] I like some cheese with my meat.

[00:06:22] Have you been to Roost Kris before?

[00:06:24] No unfortunately.

[00:06:25] Oh it's so good.

[00:06:26] I've only went when other people paid.

[00:06:29] No okay let's see that.

[00:06:30] So we should get men to take us.

[00:06:31] I've had some good steaks on like press trips and stuff like that.

[00:06:33] It is.

[00:06:34] I would like to go to Michael Jordan's steakhouse.

[00:06:35] I've heard that's pretty good.

[00:06:36] The thing that Ben can take us in.

[00:06:37] The thing about Roost Kris is if you go too often it's just-

[00:06:42] It's the same.

[00:06:43] You know?

[00:06:44] So like if you go weekly for a while, it just doesn't exist as well.

[00:06:46] It's John D. Rockefeller over here.

[00:06:48] That's just-

[00:06:49] When he was over in San Diego, he was taking-

[00:06:50] Taking ladies so-

[00:06:51] Johnny Rockefeller all the time he's like hey let me get a steak and let me get in your pants.

[00:06:54] I was like let me get that medium rare both ways.

[00:06:56] A1.

[00:06:57] Steaks house.

[00:06:59] Alright well you know what it's-

[00:07:01] Nate it's funny that you brought up having a potato with your steak.

[00:07:05] Yeah.

[00:07:06] You want to talk about potatoes?

[00:07:07] Do you like baked potatoes?

[00:07:08] I love baked potatoes my friend.

[00:07:10] Do you put stuff in it or just a little butter?

[00:07:11] Yeah, put some in it.

[00:07:12] Butter, sour cream, cheese, bacon bits, load that shit up.

[00:07:16] Okay.

[00:07:17] Now we're gonna try-

[00:07:19] Try a treat that they've been-

[00:07:20] Go ahead and grab yourself a chip out of this bag.

[00:07:23] Don't look at the front of the bag.

[00:07:25] Don't look at the front of the bag.

[00:07:26] Don't ruin the surprise.

[00:07:27] Don't ruin it.

[00:07:28] Just get yourself a chip.

[00:07:29] Nate don't look at the front of the bag.

[00:07:31] Don't look at the front.

[00:07:32] Don't look-

[00:07:33] No no no because I need a back.

[00:07:34] I haven't tried it yet.

[00:07:35] Hold on.

[00:07:36] All right, give me the back.

[00:07:37] It's like-

[00:07:38] It's like he was holding it to-

[00:07:39] You know the whole-

[00:07:40] Get him out, just get him out!

[00:07:41] He's holding the chips in my hand.

[00:07:42] I'm gonna punch the chips in my hand.

[00:07:43] I can't reach the chips because the way you're holding the freaking bag.

[00:07:49] It tastes like somebody-

[00:07:52] Somebody blended a rib-

[00:07:54] A prime rib.

[00:07:55] Right.

[00:07:56] Let me tell you the way that I made it a chip.

[00:07:57] Let me tell you first where to buy these chips.

[00:07:59] What do you do or don't like that I do?

[00:08:02] They're ridges, which are like a good ridged chip.

[00:08:05] Especially if-

[00:08:07] Quit chewing into the microphone.

[00:08:08] You know-

[00:08:09] I'm already not really happy with you tonight.

[00:08:11] So let's just-

[00:08:12] Let's just not-

[00:08:13] Oh, Ben has to be on somebody else's schedule instead of us being on his ball.

[00:08:18] Well, listeners don't know this but Brad has another podcast he's got to do after this.

[00:08:22] He's guessing on some other dumb podcast.

[00:08:24] That really stupid, a really stupid one.

[00:08:26] Well, we're mad at you right now so-

[00:08:27] I don't know it's a great podcast.

[00:08:28] You even know it.

[00:08:29] It's great but it's probably shitty.

[00:08:30] Honestly.

[00:08:31] Well, Brad's been like we got to get this podcast and I got things to do.

[00:08:34] I got people important people to talk to.

[00:08:36] And Ben just came from where all the exciting things are happening at Guttercon in Florida.

[00:08:40] Fuck right, I did.

[00:08:41] Or they had big panels about how aluminum bends and I don't know how fucking trucks were on or something.

[00:08:46] Those were the keynote speakers.

[00:08:48] They probably just had a Gutter truck as the keynote speakers.

[00:08:50] It was over on stage and put on my phone in front of it.

[00:08:52] It was Henry Jenkins is how to trucks run.

[00:08:54] That was the keynote.

[00:08:55] Those are good chips.

[00:08:56] So these are-

[00:08:59] These got-

[00:09:00] I got these from London, I did.

[00:09:02] And these are-

[00:09:03] It's a brand called the Real McCoy, isn't it?

[00:09:05] But they're good.

[00:09:06] You know what the flavor is?

[00:09:08] Stake.

[00:09:09] Well, not just any steak mate.

[00:09:11] Staking potatoes.

[00:09:13] Nice flame grilled steak.

[00:09:15] Boyo.

[00:09:16] They don't-

[00:09:17] They probably don't-

[00:09:18] They probably don't-

[00:09:19] They'll stick steak over there.

[00:09:20] But they probably-

[00:09:21] They'll stick like-

[00:09:22] The ham.

[00:09:23] The chip was really crispy, which every-

[00:09:24] No, they love ham.

[00:09:25] Which I really like.

[00:09:26] It was like fish and chips.

[00:09:27] That's fish and potatoes.

[00:09:28] You guys-

[00:09:29] No, that's french fries.

[00:09:30] They have french fries that they call chips.

[00:09:31] Yeah, I know.

[00:09:32] What do you think french fries are?

[00:09:33] Potatoes.

[00:09:34] And they called chips crisps.

[00:09:35] So they got different names.

[00:09:36] So steak over there is ham.

[00:09:37] Have you ordered ham?

[00:09:38] They give you a steak.

[00:09:39] It's not true.

[00:09:40] Steak is steak.

[00:09:41] You like these chips, Nate?

[00:09:42] I'm done talking about it.

[00:09:44] I think they're pretty good actually.

[00:09:45] I really like them.

[00:09:46] Yeah.

[00:09:47] They kind of has-

[00:09:48] It's a mix basically if you took a bite of baked potato and a bite of steak.

[00:09:51] Yeah, I don't know if the flavor was as steak like-

[00:09:54] It was a good flavor though.

[00:09:55] It's kind of-

[00:09:56] It's like the seasoning you put on steak.

[00:09:57] It was a good though.

[00:09:58] But the chip itself was good.

[00:10:00] Yeah, I liked the chip.

[00:10:01] It's a solid chip.

[00:10:02] Good seasoning.

[00:10:03] Man.

[00:10:04] I'm sorry.

[00:10:05] Thanks for sponsoring.

[00:10:06] You know, is this one of our first international sponsors?

[00:10:08] No, we had one when I first came back from-

[00:10:11] You guys not remember that Mitch brought stuff?

[00:10:13] Yeah, Mitch brought stuff from the healing.

[00:10:15] Wow.

[00:10:16] Okay, did you guys see that?

[00:10:17] Hey Mitch.

[00:10:18] Yeah, but just like-

[00:10:19] You forgot about Mitch.

[00:10:20] Like he's-

[00:10:21] I don't know.

[00:10:22] He's forget about Mitch.

[00:10:23] I follow him on Instagram.

[00:10:24] Yeah, but he's forget about the bread.

[00:10:25] He was a test and you failed.

[00:10:26] I was the one that spraught it up.

[00:10:27] I know.

[00:10:28] That's the thing.

[00:10:29] You like to force yourself in every situation where they-

[00:10:30] No, I'm gonna tell you this is not right.

[00:10:31] But I mean, that's exactly what I do.

[00:10:33] Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.

[00:10:34] That's exactly how it's out.

[00:10:35] Shoot ass mushroom dick.

[00:10:36] Shoot ass mushroom dick.

[00:10:38] Fuckin psycho.

[00:10:39] You know, you-

[00:10:41] You know, you-

[00:10:42] Greg got in trouble in like third grade because he called this teacher that.

[00:10:46] Shoot ass mushroom dick.

[00:10:47] I'm not-

[00:10:48] I'm not-

[00:10:49] I'm lying up for recess right now.

[00:10:50] You shoot ass mushroom dick.

[00:10:51] And when I was seven years old, I talked to just like this.

[00:10:56] Same voice tone, same vocabulary.

[00:11:00] Same vocabulary.

[00:11:01] Same vocabulary.

[00:11:02] Same vocabulary.

[00:11:03] Everything.

[00:11:04] Teachers were-

[00:11:05] Apollivated.

[00:11:06] Apollivated.

[00:11:07] Did you also get in trouble for drawing dicks like Jonah Hill's character in SuperBad?

[00:11:10] Not only did I get in trouble for drawing dicks, I got in trouble for showing dicks.

[00:11:14] I got in trouble for waving dicks.

[00:11:15] I got in trouble for flapping dicks.

[00:11:17] Flapping dicks.

[00:11:18] Yeah, you-

[00:11:19] You name it?

[00:11:20] I dicked it.

[00:11:21] Well, we wanna-

[00:11:23] One time I went down the slide dick first.

[00:11:25] Oh my god, what does it even mean?

[00:11:27] It's hard to do!

[00:11:28] It's hard to do and let me tell you, it chafed.

[00:11:30] It was a hot day.

[00:11:32] The hot Bernie slide.

[00:11:33] Yep.

[00:11:34] The hot Bernie slide is my favorite sandwich.

[00:11:36] Oh man, if you ever had a hot Bernie slide with the worst reddish,

[00:11:39] it's fucking delicious.

[00:11:41] Oh shit.

[00:11:43] What's the last movie you saw, Ben?

[00:11:45] Uh, Whip it.

[00:11:46] Yeah, finally!

[00:11:47] Whip it good!

[00:11:48] Yeah, should you eat it?

[00:11:49] I have a-

[00:11:50] It's a good-

[00:11:51] It's a solid group.

[00:11:52] For the people who don't know, tell people what Whip it is.

[00:11:55] Uh, it's a song by Devo.

[00:11:57] Bum bum bum bum bum.

[00:11:59] Pack that with!

[00:12:00] Bum bum bum bum bum.

[00:12:02] Merrick and mama's back!

[00:12:04] Bum bum bum bum bum.

[00:12:05] Stepping some shit.

[00:12:06] No.

[00:12:07] That's not it all.

[00:12:09] It's a-

[00:12:10] It's a-

[00:12:11] It's a lyric.

[00:12:12] Crack that Whip, break your mama's back?

[00:12:15] Yeah.

[00:12:16] I mean, okay.

[00:12:17] Well, I'm gonna believe you cause I can't-

[00:12:18] I don't know what it is.

[00:12:19] Sounds right.

[00:12:20] No, break your mama's back really is a lyric.

[00:12:21] We'll see.

[00:12:22] Bum bum bum bum bum.

[00:12:25] Yeah, my problem comes along.

[00:12:27] You must break it.

[00:12:28] You must break your mom's back.

[00:12:29] Uh, you see this song now.

[00:12:31] What's whippin'?

[00:12:32] See, this is why we don't invite you into the songs that we have for-

[00:12:34] Or any conversation.

[00:12:35] You just let me make me feel flil-

[00:12:37] Flil, flil-

[00:12:38] Like a unicorn with no horn.

[00:12:40] Uh, horse.

[00:12:41] We would also accept a pony.

[00:12:46] A shetly pony.

[00:12:48] Yeah, maybe, fuck around with like a-

[00:12:51] Like a tricycle with two wheels.

[00:12:53] Hey.

[00:12:54] What'd you say?

[00:12:55] Like a tricycle with two wheels.

[00:12:56] No.

[00:12:57] Not a fuck around.

[00:12:58] It's a biss around.

[00:12:59] Thank you.

[00:13:00] Yeah, okay. So come on.

[00:13:01] Oh yeah, see?

[00:13:02] That's the same amount.

[00:13:03] Yeah, we gotta go.

[00:13:04] Huh?

[00:13:05] I gotta park it.

[00:13:06] What's the movie?

[00:13:07] Tell the people.

[00:13:08] The movie.

[00:13:09] Yeah.

[00:13:10] Is about roller derby.

[00:13:11] Mm-hmm.

[00:13:12] And it's very fun.

[00:13:13] All right.

[00:13:14] Good.

[00:13:15] That's it.

[00:13:16] Good thing.

[00:13:17] It's, uh, let us know.

[00:13:19] It's, uh, Elliott Page is in this movie and Drew Barrymore is in this movie but she's not the lead.

[00:13:26] Uh, Jimmy Fallon is in this movie.

[00:13:28] Daniel Stern is in this movie.

[00:13:30] Kristen Wigg.

[00:13:31] I'm not done.

[00:13:32] Rosanna Arquette.

[00:13:34] Kristen Wigg.

[00:13:35] And then Eve, the rapper.

[00:13:38] Mm-hmm.

[00:13:39] And that's pretty much all I remember.

[00:13:41] Uh, what's her name?

[00:13:42] What's the mom's name?

[00:13:43] Juliet Lewis?

[00:13:44] No, though.

[00:13:45] Oh wait, no, sorry Rosanna Arquette is not an Australian.

[00:13:47] I was getting confused.

[00:13:48] Wow.

[00:13:49] Wow.

[00:13:50] What is, uh, Marcia Gayheart?

[00:13:51] Marcia Gayheart.

[00:13:52] Yep.

[00:13:53] She's fantastic as the mom.

[00:13:54] Marcia Gayheart is a great actress and she can play a crazy woman really well too.

[00:13:58] Yeah, she really, she was the best part of this movie because.

[00:14:01] I haven't seen this in a long time.

[00:14:02] You need a quote unquote villain and so Juliet Lewis and the mom's character, uh, they

[00:14:08] play the quote unquote villains in this film.

[00:14:10] This come out like 2004 to 2008 or so 2009.

[00:14:12] 2009.

[00:14:13] Okay, yeah, I was still buying a ton of DVDs and I had this DVD but I don't remember.

[00:14:16] I don't remember it well.

[00:14:18] It's the story of a years ago, isn't that crazy?

[00:14:21] Pretty conservative mother and a pretty who wants her daughter to be in page.

[00:14:27] Jesus Christ.

[00:14:28] I'm literally right back.

[00:14:29] I'm telling you what this is and you're interrupting me to say the same thing I'm just about

[00:14:32] to say.

[00:14:33] I will.

[00:14:34] You're dawdling.

[00:14:35] Oh, we don't have time.

[00:14:36] We don't have time.

[00:14:37] Yeah.

[00:14:38] Uh, movie about, uh, and they win the championship at the end and the day.

[00:14:40] You don't have to give away the ending.

[00:14:41] Yeah, the winning championship then.

[00:14:42] No, no, no, no, and the dance find the problem of the daughter.

[00:14:45] Why?

[00:14:46] So he puts a dose so he puts a yard sign in the yard.

[00:14:48] He puts, he matches up with his neighbor.

[00:14:49] He's taking the worst things to talk about the movie like.

[00:14:51] Yeah, because now we're done.

[00:14:52] Now we can move on because that's all you want to do.

[00:14:53] Let's move on.

[00:14:54] Yeah, but you're not even like, you jumped right to the ending.

[00:14:57] You didn't even talk about the plot of the movie.

[00:14:59] Yeah, because I started to and you interrupted me to do the plot.

[00:15:01] So if you want to get all the way through it, let's get all the way through it.

[00:15:04] Go, go, go, go.

[00:15:05] You got to podcast me on.

[00:15:06] I get it.

[00:15:07] You're important.

[00:15:08] We're not.

[00:15:09] Gosh.

[00:15:10] Harmar superstars in it.

[00:15:11] Who's that?

[00:15:12] Um, he's an American songwriter and actor.

[00:15:15] How do you know who that is?

[00:15:17] He looked it up on the Wikipedia.

[00:15:19] Oh, so you're not like familiar with who that is.

[00:15:21] No, I never is.

[00:15:22] He's always like, I'm like, uh, so is Kristen.

[00:15:25] Why a gay job?

[00:15:26] Boy, so what else now?

[00:15:28] Yeah, go ahead.

[00:15:29] I know you really want to be the one you want to be the one to tell the stories.

[00:15:32] So you tell them the plot of the movie.

[00:15:33] I gave you the movie idiot.

[00:15:34] You know how many times you jump in?

[00:15:35] This movie was not financially successful.

[00:15:37] Why do you think that is?

[00:15:38] Um, I don't think that it was like super widely marketed and it's also,

[00:15:46] it was like a lower key release.

[00:15:47] Like it was, it was kind of an indie, I think, in a way.

[00:15:50] I mean, I don't know if this would be technically an indie because this is like you said.

[00:15:54] It was a Fox tonight, 2009 and it was a $15 million budget.

[00:15:57] That's not a high budget, but that's like an indie.

[00:15:59] But Fox Church, like often, like what even even when those movies have backing,

[00:16:03] like they're they have like independent, you know, this is pure to bottom.

[00:16:06] Yeah, but 15 million, I wouldn't call an indie anymore.

[00:16:08] Right?

[00:16:09] Back then, the size of the budget isn't what necessarily makes it an indie.

[00:16:13] Like Indie aside from the true definition of an independent movie

[00:16:17] is one that doesn't initially have distribution or was financed independently.

[00:16:22] Even though Wipit went through Fox Church, like it's still, like it has the vibes of like aesthetically or like culturally what you might consider an indie

[00:16:30] because it started off with a limited release and then got eventually a wide release and that kind of thing.

[00:16:34] Um, and there was kind of like a grassroots support behind it because it was such a niche thing being about roller derby.

[00:16:41] Um, and it also came at around time too when like movies that were focused on, like centrally female characters.

[00:16:49] Like they weren't necessarily like grabbing a lot of attention yet because this is arrived just before

[00:16:54] uh, bridesmaids I think or was it was just after actually.

[00:16:57] Bridesmaids 2011.

[00:16:59] Yeah, so just so just before so they hadn't really like we hadn't really gotten into that wave yet of like people like suddenly jumping into like

[00:17:06] a few other parties was probably still on us and I'll hear them.

[00:17:09] Yeah, yeah.

[00:17:10] Um, and Jimmy Fallon too because it was yeah 2011.

[00:17:15] Yeah.

[00:17:16] Uh, directed by Drew Barrymore written by Shauna Kross.

[00:17:19] So Drew Barrymore's in this movie like I said she's got a kind of a bit part she's just one of the roller girl girl roller derby girls.

[00:17:25] The heral scouts.

[00:17:27] The names are awesome in roller derby in the real world and in this movie.

[00:17:31] Um, Elliot Page plays Babe Ruthless.

[00:17:34] Great name.

[00:17:35] Um, Drew Barrymore plays a very, she's just got a very weird take on the character that she chose to play in this.

[00:17:41] She's just wild.

[00:17:42] She's dumb.

[00:17:43] She's, she's dumb and she's playing it up to be very, very dumb and wild and just like.

[00:17:47] I don't know.

[00:17:48] It's a, it's a fun take because I hadn't really seen it out of her before like she's really playing that part of it out.

[00:17:54] Um, but Julia Lewis is great in this as the, as the actual villain like the lead of a different team that's better than them.

[00:18:01] And Daniel Stern plays a great role as the dad who always watches football clearly wishes that his daughter or son was in anything sports related rather than pageant, which is what her mom wants her to do.

[00:18:14] And so it's a story about rebellion and clearly a good kid that just wants to do her own thing and has one kind of absentee non conflict related father and the mother is very controlling and they I didn't have a mother you're going to do with this to be like that.

[00:18:30] That's all.

[00:18:31] So at the end of the day, very fun movie coming of age movie too that Ben enjoyed.

[00:18:36] Yeah, that's surprising to me.

[00:18:37] No, I like the sports.

[00:18:38] I didn't like the coming of age part.

[00:18:39] Wow.

[00:18:40] Also, who plays maybe Reynolds?

[00:18:43] Oh, Alia Shawcat.

[00:18:44] Yeah, she's the best friend.

[00:18:45] Yeah, plays Ellie a page of his friend.

[00:18:47] Yeah, she's great and then Owen Wilson's brother and not Luke Wilson.

[00:18:50] Andrew Wilson.

[00:18:51] Does he act still?

[00:18:53] I mean, I think he's still around.

[00:18:55] He was just great.

[00:18:56] He plays their coach and he's like, you could play this a lot of different ways but the coach could be this kind of like I'm a dude with a bunch of ladies.

[00:19:05] And it's not he like takes it seriously.

[00:19:07] Like he's a he's a slubby kind of like not slubby.

[00:19:10] He's just like he looks like a hobo in a lot of his scenes because he's just he's a he's looks like a derelict.

[00:19:16] But then when he comes out, he's like, if you guys just learn the plays, we'd be great.

[00:19:20] He's never mad at them because he it's just weird because the way plays the role is he's a he's a beleaguered coach that really wishes they would pay attention.

[00:19:27] But never gets actually mad that they don't yeah and they're happy like they chant we're number two when they lose because they're happy with it.

[00:19:34] And he just is like, if you guys learn the plays, I'm just saying we would be better.

[00:19:38] He hasn't done a tons of sounds in the 17.

[00:19:41] I don't know if he kind of just retired.

[00:19:43] His wife's a pretty pretty famous photographer.

[00:19:46] I don't know if you know they were just able to live off of and honestly, mostly he kind of just appeared in like Luke and Owen's movies as well.

[00:19:53] Yeah, it had been parts.

[00:19:55] When when I for I didn't know who it was.

[00:19:57] I didn't see the opening credits of his name.

[00:19:59] So I just thought wow, they they that's an own Wilson type.

[00:20:02] Yeah, no, they do sound like.

[00:20:05] Do you bury more also directed this in case she didn't realize she did.

[00:20:09] I did say that but yeah, that's right.

[00:20:11] She's a filmmaker.

[00:20:12] Well, he's a Spartan Spartan off facts about Harnar superstar.

[00:20:16] Whoever the fuck that our super star.

[00:20:18] Yeah, our one letter.

[00:20:21] Harmar Superstar Big Deal.

[00:20:22] Yeah, pretty big deal name one of their favorite songs.

[00:20:25] It's not it's like it's a guy.

[00:20:27] It's a him I said there.

[00:20:29] Well, that's not right.

[00:20:30] But is prefer pronouns are he him.

[00:20:32] Yeah, you don't know that.

[00:20:33] It's on Wikipedia.

[00:20:34] Don't don't assign pronouns to someone when you don't know.

[00:20:37] It's on Wikipedia.

[00:20:38] It is but he didn't say that.

[00:20:39] It says what it says he on Wikipedia.

[00:20:41] I think it would say they if it wasn't necessarily Wikipedia is no, for sure.

[00:20:44] And also also fact-based bread also you can use they them to do for any

[00:20:50] Well, whether they're he or she like it's a boy.

[00:20:52] Oh, that's that's a that's really progressively wrong, Brad.

[00:20:55] You can't do that to people.

[00:20:56] Okay.

[00:20:57] Hey, Tillman has a so Harmar superstar has a cameo in one of Ben's favorite movies.

[00:21:02] Two awesome four movie star scheme Hutch as dancing Rick.

[00:21:05] I just go dance champion.

[00:21:06] You guys remember that rule.

[00:21:07] Oh, yeah.

[00:21:08] I know who that is now then.

[00:21:09] Yeah.

[00:21:10] No, that actually does pin down exactly.

[00:21:12] Yeah.

[00:21:13] You're making fun of us but we know now.

[00:21:14] No, I know I know I know exactly who that is now the joke was that it's one of your favorite movies

[00:21:18] But I knew you guys would know that I think he actually my top 10.

[00:21:20] I think he actually is the he's the one of the other.

[00:21:23] He's not.

[00:21:24] He's one of the other.

[00:21:25] He's one of the other announcers in the movie isn't he besides Jimmy Fallon?

[00:21:31] Oh, don't know in in a harmar superstar in this.

[00:21:35] Yeah.

[00:21:36] I thought no, I thought he played the love interest because he was he's a lot younger in 2009.

[00:21:43] The the douchebag band guy.

[00:21:45] He's not a douchebag.

[00:21:46] Which one which love interest?

[00:21:48] Her Elliott Pages character.

[00:21:51] Babe Ruthis is love interest.

[00:21:52] Yeah, the guy who's in the band.

[00:21:53] Yeah, he's the dick.

[00:21:54] Yeah, he is in the end.

[00:21:55] He's a dick because he cheated on it.

[00:21:56] No, he didn't.

[00:21:57] They got like explain the movie explains it right?

[00:22:02] He was like there.

[00:22:03] Yeah, this chick jumped into our band with her and grabbed her shirt.

[00:22:07] We kicked her out.

[00:22:08] And then the kiss didn't was all good.

[00:22:09] Really?

[00:22:10] Yeah, that's exactly what happens at the end of the movie.

[00:22:12] I thought it turned out that he was an asshole.

[00:22:14] She thought he was.

[00:22:15] And then that was a big part of the movie.

[00:22:16] But then when he comes back, he's like, I just probably still smell like the band.

[00:22:19] I just got back off and I came right here.

[00:22:20] Oh, okay.

[00:22:21] I forgot about that part of it.

[00:22:22] Yeah, I thought I thought that he tried to be an asshole.

[00:22:24] But no, that's not a harnar superstar.

[00:22:26] Oh, then I don't know what it is.

[00:22:27] I think you're saying harnar?

[00:22:28] It's harmar.

[00:22:29] That's not Norman superstar.

[00:22:31] That's harmar.

[00:22:32] Norman, did you watch any other movies?

[00:22:34] No.

[00:22:35] No, why?

[00:22:36] I went to gutter con.

[00:22:37] They didn't show any movies there.

[00:22:38] Like there was no movie watching that gutter con.

[00:22:40] They didn't have any premiere of like movies.

[00:22:41] I like great gutters on them.

[00:22:42] I had four hours of sleep every night.

[00:22:44] Four hours.

[00:22:45] It was awesome.

[00:22:47] I loved it.

[00:22:48] I was up to two and got up at six or up to three.

[00:22:49] Did you have a good time?

[00:22:50] I really did.

[00:22:51] Yeah, telling them to make a movie.

[00:22:54] A gutter con movie.

[00:22:55] Life in the gutter.

[00:22:56] No, don't do that.

[00:22:57] They found her of gutter con.

[00:22:59] No, they'd be like a, very short.

[00:23:00] It needs to be like a Christopher Guess macumentary.

[00:23:02] Yeah.

[00:23:03] Why am I the interstitial series on the free?

[00:23:06] I just feel like you can make it very serious and it'd be very funny.

[00:23:10] It's called, it's called down spouts.

[00:23:12] And have it be just like about you guys.

[00:23:14] You guys don't write this movie with me.

[00:23:15] A couple of schmucks who run a gutter business

[00:23:17] and they just like just fuck it up.

[00:23:19] I take my job seriously.

[00:23:20] You can.

[00:23:21] No, it's fine.

[00:23:22] You do.

[00:23:23] The port team is good.

[00:23:24] The port team is good.

[00:23:25] It can be the company that inspires down spouts to do it right.

[00:23:28] Have ever made fun of you for being a pastor?

[00:23:30] Okay, don't ask me.

[00:23:31] I mean some of them say.

[00:23:32] Wow, wow, wow, wow.

[00:23:36] Yeah, no, this is what I'm like 25 minutes into the marvels right now

[00:23:41] and I'm going to finish it tonight.

[00:23:43] That's when I actually, so for the first time normally I would watch

[00:23:46] that when it comes out, I would pay for it.

[00:23:48] But I knew it was going to hit Disney.

[00:23:50] And so it wasn't worth the 20 bucks.

[00:23:52] So I just literally waited for it.

[00:23:53] And I wonder if that's hurting Disney.

[00:23:55] No, that's definitely a lot of what it's had.

[00:23:57] I will say again, I don't dislike the marvels.

[00:24:00] I watched it for a second time and I don't just like it.

[00:24:02] No, it's fun.

[00:24:03] Yeah, it's fun to do it.

[00:24:04] Especially compared to what just came out.

[00:24:06] What was the movie?

[00:24:07] The eternal.

[00:24:08] No, the Oof movie.

[00:24:10] Madam web.

[00:24:11] Yeah.

[00:24:12] I'm loving anyway.

[00:24:13] And infinitely better than that.

[00:24:15] I'm loving.

[00:24:16] Just people are triple and quadrupling down on.

[00:24:20] It's like almost worse than the morbias hate at this point.

[00:24:23] Like I've seen things as like, just, yes, like yesterday,

[00:24:27] just on Twitter and I just saw, listen guys,

[00:24:30] I know that everybody's shooting on Madam Web.

[00:24:33] And they should.

[00:24:34] Here's a threat.

[00:24:35] And they're like doing threads of why it's bad now.

[00:24:37] It's like, oof.

[00:24:38] It's awful.

[00:24:39] And then there was another one that did a threat of Dakota Johnson in press for this movie.

[00:24:44] It was like seven or eight clips where she like contradicts herself.

[00:24:48] And it's just so.

[00:24:51] Just so out of it as far as like, not it online.

[00:24:55] I love the, I've loved the Marvel movies for so time for some time.

[00:24:58] And then like the next interview I've never seen the Marvel movie.

[00:25:01] Like just stuff like that.

[00:25:02] I bet she's fucking around.

[00:25:04] Well, that's the thing.

[00:25:05] You know, if she's not really doing herself any favors for the movie obviously.

[00:25:09] It's like, I think that she was already knew that it was going to be just down the drain.

[00:25:13] So I mean, do you think that she's so in on the joke for herself?

[00:25:16] She's like, yeah, they paid me $20 million.

[00:25:18] I was like, I don't care about them and I'm just going to shit all over it.

[00:25:20] Maybe.

[00:25:21] Honestly though, pretty crappy ever.

[00:25:23] Yeah, I mean, you were hard to do a job right now.

[00:25:25] So people.

[00:25:26] So this is the thing that I think of when I think of films like this.

[00:25:29] There were some people that did some pretty crappy Jeff, but there are a lot of people that probably worked hard on this film.

[00:25:33] Right?

[00:25:34] If you're if you're amazing,

[00:25:35] hundreds of people that are terrible, I don't know, thousands of people that work on a film by the time it's done.

[00:25:40] Just respect.

[00:25:42] But it's not that.

[00:25:43] But it's not that she is disrespecting what they did on the movie by like,

[00:25:46] not doing a good job.

[00:25:47] No, but not being invested on the press tour, especially if you don't think it's a good movie like

[00:25:51] why lie to people or why pretend?

[00:25:52] You don't have to lie.

[00:25:53] But like, but no, I mean, she is lying because you can say like it's not a good movie.

[00:25:58] Don't go see it, but like, or I'm contractually obligated to be here right now.

[00:26:01] But everyone knows that she is.

[00:26:03] No, yeah, she wouldn't do it if she wasn't.

[00:26:05] No, like I'm saying you go out and say I've always been a fan of the Marvel films and then four seconds later

[00:26:10] you see a clip versus I've never seen one.

[00:26:12] Is it, but is that the same interview?

[00:26:14] No, no, it's all right.

[00:26:15] That's what I mean.

[00:26:16] Like a week ago it was most people who see that first interview or see that second interview aren't going to see the other one.

[00:26:22] Oh, so it's a kid of lie when nobody knows.

[00:26:24] No, I didn't say.

[00:26:25] I mean, technically that's what a lie is and if it's good then yeah.

[00:26:28] Oh my god.

[00:26:29] I just honestly this whole thing is maybe loose respect.

[00:26:31] I didn't have a ton of opinion on her anyway, but it's just like the film's crap.

[00:26:36] It is and you were in the film and I don't think you helped the film be any better than either from what I know.

[00:26:42] I'm not sure anybody did to be honest, yeah.

[00:26:45] Except for like anyone who's on the crew though I do think some of this type of crap though it just starts pouring on bread on on X today.

[00:26:56] Twitter.

[00:26:58] It's an X-code.

[00:27:00] But you pointed out because somebody's like look at this.

[00:27:03] It's a like a microphone or something.

[00:27:06] Oh yeah, someone took a picture of it.

[00:27:08] But it's like everyone is just trying to find the new phone.

[00:27:10] You can't talk at the same fucking time boys.

[00:27:12] But they're trying to get in it.

[00:27:13] Oh my god.

[00:27:15] What did someone do so we know what the fuck we're talking about and then Nate can explain it.

[00:27:19] Brad please tell the people what the fuck you're going to do it again and I know you are.

[00:27:22] Because you're looking at each other like we're going to work on each other.

[00:27:24] And you're fucking asshole.

[00:27:26] Someone was in there.

[00:27:29] Someone was like, you guys get it.

[00:27:31] I fucking.

[00:27:32] Someone posted a still from Madam Webb a shot from the movie and they were saying boom mic right in the shot and it kind of looks like there's a boom mic in the corner which is fair.

[00:27:42] I thought it was.

[00:27:43] It's a tick.

[00:27:44] It's like huge cock.

[00:27:45] It's an elephant penis.

[00:27:46] It's just someone with someone wearing like a medical hat and like the bill looks like a mine.

[00:27:51] It was part of the scene.

[00:27:52] Yeah.

[00:27:53] They're trying to find things.

[00:27:54] And that's the thing is like this movie is so bad.

[00:27:56] You don't need to come up with more things to like, you know, that's what always is kind of piss me off.

[00:28:01] Just make one of those things.

[00:28:03] Be legit really bad.

[00:28:04] This happens in politics too.

[00:28:05] Do you hear Donald Trump said this and he didn't it's like well.

[00:28:08] The things he says is bad enough.

[00:28:10] We don't have to make new things right.

[00:28:12] Making things up actually hurts your cause.

[00:28:14] Exactly.

[00:28:15] It makes people sympathetic to the thing.

[00:28:18] You're unreliable source at that point.

[00:28:20] When you say something real maybe somebody's not going to believe it.

[00:28:22] Exactly.

[00:28:23] But bad film.

[00:28:24] Bad film.

[00:28:25] And honestly, I know we just shuddle over Dakota Johnson or whatever but Marvel knew what they were getting through and they hired her too.

[00:28:34] Well not Marvel, not Marvel, Sony.

[00:28:36] They knew.

[00:28:37] I mean everybody saw the viral clip of her on Ellen DeGeneres' talk show.

[00:28:41] Well actually Dakota Johnson is in the right on that one.

[00:28:44] No, no exactly.

[00:28:45] But that's what you hired.

[00:28:46] Like you're not going to, I wouldn't expect that person to play nice ever.

[00:28:49] So why the fuck would you, there's plenty of other edges out there that would have been.

[00:28:52] But maybe they did not honestly because at the end of the day this movie was made so that they can hold on to the rights to Spider-Man characters.

[00:29:00] That's why they make this.

[00:29:02] That's why they make more obvious.

[00:29:03] That's because as long as they keep making movies that have Spider-Man characters in it and they can't do a new Spider-Man every single year.

[00:29:10] They get to hold on to the rights to Spider-Man.

[00:29:12] But do they have to make whatever year?

[00:29:15] I believe so.

[00:29:17] And they are allowed to use the words Peter Parker and Spider-Man.

[00:29:21] Yeah, they are.

[00:29:22] But they don't.

[00:29:23] So and I.

[00:29:24] It's so weird.

[00:29:25] I think that they did you see the movie?

[00:29:26] No, I just, I've not looked at everything about it.

[00:29:28] I know no, I didn't need to.

[00:29:29] Like people, that's one of the things they're shitting on.

[00:29:31] Yeah.

[00:29:32] This guy wrote this really fun little blurb and it was like it's so weird to me that they're allowed to say these things that will help their film in the film

[00:29:39] and they don't, they choose not to actively choose not to.

[00:29:41] It's weird because it's like they wanted to have these little like Easter egg references but they didn't want to fully lean into it.

[00:29:46] And part of me thinks that the reason they didn't is because they didn't want to paint themselves into a corner where if they were going to continue this thread somehow.

[00:29:54] That it had to be Peter Parker where if they did it, then they could like throw a curve bomb and be like, oh wait, it's not.

[00:30:00] It's miles away or somebody or somebody completely different.

[00:30:03] Yeah, I guess but man, it's kind of like.

[00:30:06] I don't know.

[00:30:08] If you've got on one hand incredible movie, the punch up stuff would have been.

[00:30:13] Sure, you know this would be the one time when like you want that fan service.

[00:30:17] But I did also kind of appreciate that they didn't do the most obvious you know, wings by throwing down his name like they still have some like cheeky cheesy like things, you know.

[00:30:27] That reference they look like what you know we're talking about.

[00:30:30] Madam loves line.

[00:30:32] What is it?

[00:30:33] My name is Madame Webb and I love peepee.

[00:30:34] Yeah, oh man, she loves peepee.

[00:30:36] So little hidden reference that's Peter Parker.

[00:30:39] Yeah, not urine.

[00:30:41] Yeah, oh, oh God.

[00:30:43] That's funny.

[00:30:44] Yeah, that's really funny.

[00:30:45] Yeah, you got it.

[00:30:47] What'd you watch this week?

[00:30:48] She did take she loves getting pissed on them.

[00:30:50] Oh my god!

[00:30:52] No.

[00:30:53] And gross scene.

[00:30:54] My Madame Webb.

[00:30:55] I love it.

[00:30:56] I love it.

[00:30:57] I love it.

[00:30:58] That's a little word.

[00:30:59] It's a real bad movie.

[00:31:00] Man with two golden showers is coming up.

[00:31:03] Oh man.

[00:31:04] To a restroom near you.

[00:31:05] What's the last movie you saw, buddy?

[00:31:06] I thought he asked you.

[00:31:07] I did, but he does.

[00:31:08] Did you?

[00:31:09] I was trying to move on.

[00:31:10] I was trying to move on from the piss commentary.

[00:31:13] What did you see?

[00:31:15] Right.

[00:31:16] The last movie I saw was Thriller 40, which is a documentary

[00:31:22] that is available on Showtime or Slash Paramount Plus since they're both the same thing now, I guess.

[00:31:27] And this just came out the end of last year and it is a documentary about the making

[00:31:33] of Michael Jackson's Thriller album, which is like his crazy huge hit of an album that has

[00:31:39] Billy Jean and Beat It.

[00:31:41] You've been on a real documentary about the girls' mind with Paul McCartney.

[00:31:44] The girls' mind?

[00:31:45] You want to be starting something pretty young thing.

[00:31:47] What is that?

[00:31:48] And so I remember the time.

[00:31:50] I am on kind of like a music documentary.

[00:31:52] No, I don't.

[00:31:53] Do you remember the time?

[00:31:54] That's like a 1994 album.

[00:31:55] Thank you, Nate.

[00:31:56] Thank you very much.

[00:31:57] No, I was just mentioning more Michael Jackson.

[00:32:01] Nate, do you remember the time when Ben messed up the song?

[00:32:03] Oh, I remember Ben.

[00:32:04] Ben.

[00:32:05] How about Black and White?

[00:32:06] No, same album actually.

[00:32:07] Thriller?

[00:32:08] Yeah.

[00:32:09] Oh, jeez.

[00:32:10] After watching The Greatest Night in Pop, I feel like I'm on a music documentary kick.

[00:32:16] And I knew this came out recently and seeing Michael Jackson and The Greatest Night in Pop, I wanted to watch this because I love

[00:32:21] Thriller as an album.

[00:32:22] You know, that music video was a game changer all around.

[00:32:26] And it was really cool to listen to people talk about the making of the album.

[00:32:29] They have like the sound engineer and people who are working in the studio and stuff like that.

[00:32:33] And they talk to people who are around Michael Jackson at the time, and they have great archival interviews and footage and everything.

[00:32:39] And it was just really cool to get a sense of what he was trying to accomplish with that album, and after he was breaking out of Jackson V and everything.

[00:32:48] And it's just like for all the controversy there is around Michael Jackson and everything that happened with him and everything like that.

[00:32:55] What happened?

[00:32:56] There's like, it's like you can't help but be an awe of just how well in tune he was with music and the way he created.

[00:33:06] Like they in this documentary they have the demos that he made where he's basically doing like acapella versions of the songs that are on the album or he's like doing the instrumentals with his mouth to like that so that you get a vibe for like what the sound is.

[00:33:21] So we did all these multi track recordings and you get to hear those raw demos and you get to hear how close they were to the actual what they did in front of us.

[00:33:28] It's so funny.

[00:33:29] It's by himself.

[00:33:30] Yeah, and it's so funny too because sometimes you'll hear some of the songs and it's not the full lyrics he's just doing like, mbduh, mbduh, mbduh, mbduh.

[00:33:36] You know there's going to be lyrics there and he knows what it's going to sound like but isn't it has the lyrics all figured out yet?

[00:33:41] There are a lot of songwriters that do that.

[00:33:43] They just figure out what they went into sound like and they piece in the lyrics later.

[00:33:47] Isn't that really cool?

[00:33:48] One of my favorite parts actually is one of the guys who worked in like in the studio while they were creating the songs and creating the music is he's in this room surrounded by like a bunch of synthesizers and equipment stuff like that.

[00:34:01] And they don't ever they don't mention what it is but he just starts he's like so when we were in the studio like with Michael we started off when we had this this drum beat and it's just this like single.

[00:34:10] And he starts off with that and he starts adding one more thing and he's doing it like live so like he's like on the on all the things recording each sound adding it repeating it all that kind of thing.

[00:34:23] Wait is this Michael or the guy?

[00:34:24] The guy not Michael and so he's going through and they're talking about how they figured out what add is like and then we know and then of course.

[00:34:30] Is it Quincy Jones or?

[00:34:31] No it's not Quincy Jones, Quincy Jones is dead.

[00:34:33] Oh it's in real time.

[00:34:35] This is not archival footage.

[00:34:36] No this is this is sorry we're you think it's not as well.

[00:34:39] I was like so why was Michael there?

[00:34:41] No it's a talking head interview and he's talking about what it was like when they were talking heads and so fucking hell shut up.

[00:34:48] So he's going through all the layers of the song and he's like and then and then finally you we add and like you recognize it but it's not complete and then finally he gets to the part where it goes.

[00:34:58] It's like holy shit and like just the way it comes together.

[00:35:04] It's fucking incredible.

[00:35:05] It's such a cool thing and like it really just gets you jazzed watching it and makes you wish they could write a fucking song.

[00:35:10] The full song for Thriller is freaking long at the beginning.

[00:35:14] Have you ever listened to the music video?

[00:35:16] Yeah the music video was like isn't it like 13 minutes ago?

[00:35:18] Yeah and that is the actual song I think.

[00:35:20] I don't think that actually like that is the.

[00:35:22] It's been some price over in the original.

[00:35:25] The original is I mean they cut it down right.

[00:35:28] Well because they have a big dance break that has full like music in it and there's a longer cut of the song but the movie itself has movie parts where there's not like music or anything.

[00:35:36] Clearly they cut the music off but what's really amazing about Michael Jackson again all scandal was standing he was an incredible songwriter.

[00:35:46] Almost all of these songs were actually written just by him.

[00:35:49] He didn't have like you know now there's usually teams of people that are writing songs even with a good songwriter.

[00:35:54] Yeah.

[00:35:55] Taylor Swift is a good if not great songwriter.

[00:35:57] They even say other people writing songs with her still.

[00:36:00] The song that he did with Paul McCartney they said like a lot of people think Paul McCartney wrote that song.

[00:36:04] No but Michael Jackson wrote that.

[00:36:05] He's the only one too.

[00:36:06] He didn't have a team it was just him.

[00:36:08] It is also for you maybe if we do have one younger listener under the age of like let's say 30.

[00:36:14] It is.

[00:36:15] Mitch.

[00:36:16] Yeah Mitch.

[00:36:17] Mitch.

[00:36:18] It's Mitch.

[00:36:19] It's it's talking to him.

[00:36:20] Mitch right over here.

[00:36:21] It is indescribable to somebody that didn't at least have a tangential relationship with his music when he was alive when he was pre scandal let's say where

[00:36:34] the literally like bigger than the Beatles bigger than Elvis the larger than life persona that he had.

[00:36:42] He was by far the most individually famous person in the entire world.

[00:36:47] For years at a time and people would cry and faint and scream and they couldn't control themselves and it was like Beatlemania but like times 10.

[00:36:57] I just don't know what that does to anybody right like how could you possibly be that on top of the fact that like father was just a tyrant.

[00:37:05] Yeah and he's been famous since he was a fucking kid like I mean Jackson fight he's just a child.

[00:37:09] It's crazy to me though that there.

[00:37:11] Who it right now Taylor Swift might be or Beyonce might be like the closest thing to that level of start and it doesn't even come close.

[00:37:18] Yeah people are not screaming and tearing their eyes out when I mean they're crying.

[00:37:22] Oh you remember when he saw the video when that dude tore his eyes out in front of Michael Jackson.

[00:37:25] I mean people were literally praying at their skin waiting for him to come out.

[00:37:28] They were they I was I would say Taylor Swift in my life is the third video.

[00:37:34] Taylor Swift is the closest thing I think we've gotten since then because she's huge worldwide and it's also incredibly more it's just it's harder to be that famous now because so many other people can be famous at the same time as the internet.

[00:37:46] Yeah that's quite a quote unquote famous well yeah but it was you know Mr. Beast you're sharing that not only Mr. Beases wildly famous so Michael Jackson had less competition obviously but my goodness was he just yeah the biggest great.

[00:38:00] So yeah if you you should watch thriller 40 if you like Michael Jackson music for your music at all and you like those kind of documentaries it's not paramount plus in show time I did.

[00:38:09] I watched the exorcist believer why because I like the exorcist and I like David Gordon Green as a filmmaker.

[00:38:16] I thought he was the theater with your mom no we were supposed to but I didn't get a chance to.

[00:38:21] And it's okay it's I don't think it's bad it's just better than the 22% RT score yeah I mean and like only because like that makes it sound like it's terrible yeah I think what a number that would scare me away from.

[00:38:37] I think what it is just that more more more critics then you know the usual I think we're just underwhelmed by it because snow or near as good as the exorcist of course how could it work yeah.

[00:38:48] It's it's still you know better than the extra six sequels of which there are many you probably haven't seen half of them.

[00:38:55] But the problem is that for a movie that is supposed to like be a direct sequel to the exorcist and kind of like ignores what happened after that it doesn't necessarily do anything new or exciting enough to like warrant being an exorcist movie it's very much your like formulaic movie of girls who get possessed and then they try and get the demon out of them.

[00:39:17] There's nothing really surprising that happens. Oh I take that there's one surprising that happens but it's the kind of thing where like I wish it didn't because it feels like oh well that's kind of lame that they did that your father sucks and hell no that would have been great you know that was

[00:39:31] especially when it was Danny McBride.

[00:39:33] It's just your mother sucks. No I got your father. No I got your mother. I got your picture.

[00:39:39] Yeah yeah mushroom dick. So it's just yeah it's just fine I don't think it's terrible I don't think it's great it's not particularly memorable or anything you know it's yeah it's just okay it's just an okay movie.

[00:39:56] It's just a fine okay movie.

[00:40:01] What's it? I did I watched the Mona which is an animated movie that's nominated for best animated film from Netflix.

[00:40:08] What is it called? Nemanah. I saw this yeah and it's the sequel to Moana. No it's actually really I actually really like this.

[00:40:18] It is really good yeah and so I it's like a I think you actually might like this film you probably would.

[00:40:25] Well my joke wasn't that bad but you guys are sure it's horrible.

[00:40:27] It has the vibe of a medieval fantasy movie but it's also set in a futuristic world it's kind of a cool mix mix of those little things.

[00:40:34] It's beautiful though. You know here's a thing I didn't like this bus kind of elements of anime a little bit sometimes too.

[00:40:41] I don't mind that there's there's something about this particular style that bugs me a little bit because it feels like it's unfinished and I know it's not the case

[00:40:49] because it's an aesthetic choice and there are some movies that have this style to it but there's something about it that feels almost like a little like video gamey to me

[00:40:59] and I just I like when there's a lot of detail and animation and this feels like there's intentionally not detail

[00:41:05] and that sometimes it just kind of bugs me but there are some gorgeous shots in this movie despite despite the fact that I don't dig the animation style.

[00:41:12] Yeah and like you said it wasn't laziness it was a choice it's a choice and it just doesn't always work for me.

[00:41:18] Sure the characters are great though. It is Chloe Grace Moratz plays the title character Nimonah who is this shape shifting girl who they kind of perceive as a monster

[00:41:28] and she has like a very like dark sense of humor and like a twisted size she's really funny but there's there's a great correlation

[00:41:37] and like an allegory here of like being otherd and especially when it comes to like the LGBTQ plus community and that kind of thing but it's done very well where like it's not like shoved in your face

[00:41:49] and like thrown on your throat it's a very subtle way of like creating this tie to like something that and honestly not even just LGBTQ plus but like anybody

[00:41:59] other as an outcast you know and it's just very well done I was I was very impressed by the story and it's yeah it's touching it's fun.

[00:42:08] The directors of this Nick Bruno and Troy Quayne I think I pronounce it so second film I think but they did another one that I like spies in disguise

[00:42:18] you see I haven't seen spies in the skies yet another well reviewed it spies in disguise or spies in the skies spies in disguise

[00:42:26] but that's the that's the that's the joke oh okay is it really yeah they turn it these they turn into birds

[00:42:35] no I don't know fuck no he's right I never made that connection I never I never made that as like a spy in disguise as like the as the bird thing

[00:42:44] you knew they turned into birds but yeah to make that joke in the movie no okay that's I'd never put that together that's pretty clever actually

[00:42:51] it's a good job Nate alright and that's it that's those are the movies that I saw so that's what you watched that's what's going on in the country

[00:43:00] here what's happening in your neck in the woods can't tell you a quick story yep so is that the gutter convention

[00:43:06] guttercon got a con 20 24 now if our listeners want to thank guttercon I don't think it tickets to next year I'm sure tickets sell really quick

[00:43:15] gutter hyphen con dot com is where you're gonna want to go and it's that's that's really that's really the website so Ben standing in line

[00:43:22] and someone turns around and tips his hat like this and who do you think that guy was a million west of it the mighty document I swear to God

[00:43:32] I turn around I was like Emilio haha we did it so I met you know the first seminar of the first day

[00:43:41] is this guy named Howard I believe and he's an older gentleman and it's meant to be a motivational speaker

[00:43:48] and so it's not really about gutter it's just about like and my friend he felt like a preacher for sure

[00:43:53] and I know he's conservative Christian and a little bit right wing Nate your friend but I know that also he's got a little

[00:44:00] Howard Howard the gutter passes seriously and he's a nice nice enough guy but clearly there's built a career

[00:44:08] like kind of do is conservative Christian you know stuff and I you know it's a gutter convention so all these guys are pretty

[00:44:14] blue collar and you know I don't know that anybody's really there for religion we're just there to learn about an

[00:44:18] industry so it is a little awkward for me so I was kind of on my phone a lot because he was just doing a lot of

[00:44:25] stuff that just doesn't really align with what I believe in and so it's kind of like when I talk to you sometimes

[00:44:30] sometimes I zone out I zone out so he did he talked about you know I have to leave the convention early because

[00:44:36] you know and I've been doing this a long time I'm very happy and excited that I get to I can't believe

[00:44:42] I really go so it'll be with the president and he was not talking about Joe Biden he got to go and hang out

[00:44:49] with Trump after that and I was like oh this is this is so you were pretty jealous oh yeah of course so I heard that

[00:44:57] I heard that if it's not to ask you to put new gutters on Marlago we would you do it better you better make as much money

[00:45:04] you can without a doubt it would be paying up front but I would yeah I don't care about that I honestly

[00:45:11] would just want to go and send the guys and do it that's a story forever it doesn't matter of politics as I just the

[00:45:17] idea that like you you should see weird shit and like this is crazy like that's a good enough event all right so you

[00:45:23] heard it here first folks Ben would put gutters on 24th century Hitler's house let me say this that's not why I have friends

[00:45:29] that are are vehemently anti-Trump and they confess to say what sucks now is they can't stay at a Trump

[00:45:36] hotel because they actually like the people there's very nice the people that work there and like

[00:45:40] they're living there it's not their friend does not their fault that Hitler is in fault not so they don't stay there anymore

[00:45:45] but like like the Trump hotel in Chicago is a very nice hotel yeah so all that to say I was like okay

[00:45:50] so I was zoning out a little bit after especially after he said that I was going all right whatever

[00:45:53] so it comes to the end and I look up and he's standing on the stage kind of awkwardly

[00:45:58] and they went from his speech on the teleprompter on the on the big board and it cut back to the gutter con logo

[00:46:04] and he was still standing there so awkwardly and I'm like seriously like 10 seconds go by

[00:46:09] and you know it's a big room and it's me and it's just like in school when you're like we've got to

[00:46:13] be careful otherwise I'm gonna be you know I can't not so the host of this event this year was a magician

[00:46:19] he was like he does like a hand stuff and he was awesome no that part was great so he does

[00:46:25] like a little bit of funny stuff and you'll do like one one one magic trick over the show

[00:46:28] and I get your attention and bring down spout disappeared kind of and then bring up the next

[00:46:32] speaker he was he utterly impossible to figure out his slight a hand stuff he's really good

[00:46:37] so he was the guy that like brought this guy up it was it was it a David copper field

[00:46:43] oh nice I'll give you that one yeah yeah yeah anyway so I see the gutter con logo

[00:46:52] I see that Howard is standing there like kind of like mouth open just like kind of like what's going on

[00:46:59] I say where's the magician and the guy does respond he's like I'm right here

[00:47:03] and I'm thinking why aren't you going on stage like this is insane what are we doing here well turns out if I

[00:47:09] had been paying attention Howard had said like and this is like the last thing that he does

[00:47:14] apparently and his thing is he asks you to just give him a longer than normal pause to think about

[00:47:19] what he just said oh my god you and I interrupted it you can get with you pieces of shit

[00:47:26] you're an awful person now now granted I don't care because that guy's going to see Donald Trump

[00:47:30] so fuck that guy but no but here's the funny part but don't miss a chance to let him bet you just gave

[00:47:35] yourself a cringe moment I know I did if you were watching this you would turn it off yeah

[00:47:40] the only thing that the only savings for me at all is that truly the guy that was running the AV stuff

[00:47:46] we did fuck up he was supposed to leave his his thing alone but like five seconds into the 10 second

[00:47:51] pause he changed it so then I look I saw that change and then him standing there and I'm like

[00:47:55] what the fuck is going on oh my god and so I was like where's the magician and and I got I mean

[00:48:00] probably 10 to 15 people in my media area that actually heard it were like they laughed

[00:48:05] it was good but then I had to go over to my table and with my employees over there

[00:48:09] and I was like hey I just think I fucked up I did this and like yeah no he meant to pause

[00:48:13] and I was going no so I apologize to like the founder of the convention I tried to find him

[00:48:19] to apologize because that's not who I am I don't really do stuff like that so you go to Marla I

[00:48:23] Trump's a nice guy Jesus so yeah that was that was the cringe movie cringe-worthy

[00:48:28] moment that I created for myself at gunner cont2024 I'm a moron wow yeah is that the only one though probably not

[00:48:35] probably many more Nate what'd you see buddy I watched the film I went to theater to see this film

[00:48:42] right before I think probably it's gonna come to the DVD pretty soon or release to

[00:48:48] a digital service tell us what it is and then we'll tell you it's a film

[00:48:52] um starring city sweetie in Glenn Powell mm-hmm called anyone but you yes

[00:48:59] oh oh finally enough it'll actually be available on pvod premium video on

[00:49:04] demand starting Tuesday February 20th. It's really they didn't do it for Valentine's Day

[00:49:08] yeah that is kind of it's because they had a special encore Valentine's Day showing in

[00:49:14] theaters thank you they kept in theaters for Valentine's Day so I kind of like going to

[00:49:19] theaters by myself well I like going to theaters by myself but I also like going when

[00:49:23] I'm the only one there and I knew that this had been in the theater for a long enough

[00:49:26] time so I was the only one there so you wanted to be the only one in the theater

[00:49:29] for a movie with Sydney Sweeney in a bikini you know what I'm talking about yep

[00:49:33] yeah she get the doon popcorn bucket actually I'm like a lie Glenn Powell

[00:49:41] oh fuck the shit I'm fucking Glenn Powell is a handsome man he is he is guy

[00:49:48] candy yeah I think I probably not since you and McGregor have I been just just

[00:49:52] totally all about kissing a man right Gosling is right up there that's fair

[00:49:57] that's fair that's fair you know oh man when I saw him take a shot of an

[00:50:01] crazy stupid love I was like I'm not gay but am I a little I don't know maybe do

[00:50:05] you know that this is a take on much to do about nothing by William Shakespeare I

[00:50:08] didn't who's that oh Bill strike spur over here so this is a take on that it is

[00:50:16] a very paint by the numbers rom com that I really really loved and so it is well

[00:50:25] Sydney Sweeney has very limited range she she doesn't have all the charisma in

[00:50:30] the world I don't know if you know this she's not super curious wait are you talking about

[00:50:34] this co star of madam web Sydney Sweeney and doesn't have her is pretty terrible in

[00:50:38] that or she's not terrible but she's not doing the movie any favors yeah it's

[00:50:42] so but it ends up working with the two of them Glenn Powell obviously carries the

[00:50:47] kind of charisma in that regard there's also some really fun supporting cast moments

[00:50:53] as well uh dormant mooronees really good in here who's super old now you guys know

[00:50:58] that dormant more than just over Fox yeah you know when that long ago he was

[00:51:03] the Glenn Powell of exactly I don't know if I'd ever go that far but I mean was a

[00:51:08] in the 90s I think he was he was hard for up he was he was handsome fella I don't think

[00:51:12] I'm the leading man I would never put him on Glenn Powell level okay I never wanted to

[00:51:15] kiss him Roni and mouth there it is your never never never how about Dylan McDermott

[00:51:21] sometimes so this is exactly one more how about Derbal Macmillan oh all about

[00:51:26] it yep yep so this is exactly what you would expect it's exactly what the trailer

[00:51:31] seemed right it is everything that that but it was fun it was fun but it was fun to

[00:51:38] see a rom com that was funny it's already good as net too or for reason buddy yeah

[00:51:45] that was the very there's a tuplacine they're not gonna get a shower scene in this

[00:51:50] little bit of a pb um what we're going a little bit of a pb and that's why it's

[00:51:55] already I don't know what he's I don't know what he's like it because it's Glenn Powell's

[00:52:01] pbs what is this voice you're doing I don't know if you know this but I thought you

[00:52:06] thought when you thought of a Parker look at a haunted house when it goes to the movies

[00:52:09] alone I'm there and I said I sit and watch for him from behind with my doing two

[00:52:13] pocket bucket and I look for a Glenn power you know what you sound like you sound like

[00:52:17] Mickey Rooney bangs room to the moon do you never said to the moon yes we said I was the

[00:52:24] top in a world I go that's what it is I like this voice I don't

[00:52:30] yeah it's real man you know what I also love what I really love about this film

[00:52:34] too well one more just one more it's really like an hour and a half just just

[00:52:38] really which is the perfect in-it-out time for it.

[00:52:41] Sydney sweetie can I be a autograph right she should you may not we just got a

[00:52:47] restraining order against that yeah so it's not even no one has ever heard this other

[00:52:52] yes that's how great it was I have one one two popcorn bucket two

[00:52:57] lids oh yeah nasty I'm gonna that means he's gonna just destroy

[00:53:04] one of those lids you know how you know how you when you go to the the films

[00:53:07] and you get the popcorn it's all gone in the previews the first lid

[00:53:12] destroyed oh my god I'm gonna need the second lid to give me all the way

[00:53:17] true but she says we know that's that true I feel so gross right now I feel

[00:53:26] I feel just like just like I'm covered like the bottom of a movie theater

[00:53:30] for you're putting a restricted on this podcast episode yeah

[00:53:33] seriously Sydney sweetie call me oh I'm so sorry city sweetie I'm so so sorry

[00:53:40] I think it's really what I did so I so you liked anyone but you

[00:53:45] know it was fun you should see it when it comes out on on the VOD I might

[00:53:49] still try to go to theaters to see it I like supporting all the

[00:53:51] things screen so I was gonna tell you this I think fucking gross you and I talked

[00:53:56] about this that it's not common for rom com to make as much money as it did

[00:54:01] it did barely well it was like a $25 million budget and I think it did close to

[00:54:05] 200 billion and had long legs to like you kind of steadily grew over a few

[00:54:08] weeks so it makes me happy for film right that this this is a very profitable

[00:54:13] film and it's good it goes to show you too like there's so much emphasis placed

[00:54:17] on opening box office has has been free years you know that's always what they

[00:54:20] report on but like if you give a movie time to like grow and like it has in

[00:54:24] there's enough room to find find an audience because there's counter programming

[00:54:27] there's not a lot of other stuff happening it'll work you know I mean like people

[00:54:30] were thought Pixar's elemental was like what Pixar just doesn't have anymore

[00:54:34] but that movie had such long legs the box office and it's still ended up being a big

[00:54:38] hit for them I do like to talk about TV on this podcast I know you guys don't

[00:54:41] realize they're talking about it but they talk about that with like the office

[00:54:45] giving it time yeah and if you in these days the office would have been cancelled

[00:54:50] it would have year yeah and that would have been a travesty I don't know what it's

[00:54:54] about but I think that it would have been bad yeah absolutely I mean even

[00:54:57] honestly even into its second season it's still it still took them a while to

[00:55:01] get their footing it wasn't until like towards the end of the second season

[00:55:04] that they really started like having a hold and like found an audience yeah

[00:55:08] it I it's one of those things though I also don't necessarily begrudge a studio

[00:55:14] that like puts out a movie and it doesn't do very well on so you're like shit we

[00:55:18] really got to make some money because that's what they're there yeah sure I kind

[00:55:21] of begrudge studios have everything right now of course but I that's one thing

[00:55:24] that is hard obviously to make that decision like this is one that will have legs

[00:55:27] oh wow you know how do you know that well and here's the other problem too and

[00:55:31] Matt Damon talked about this a while back when he appeared on hot ones with

[00:55:36] Sean Evans is the great episode I was mad at that damon he's got a good mind on him you know he does

[00:55:42] he's brilliant he is he is and he talks about how back back during with the old model

[00:55:47] of movie releasing a movie would come out in theaters you know if it wasn't a box

[00:55:51] office hit it wasn't necessarily a big deal because often what would happen is

[00:55:55] the movie would then get released on DVD and there was a whole new swath of income

[00:56:00] and he even says it's like it was basically like giving the movie a second release

[00:56:03] and you knew that you were going to get a bunch more money from people who are

[00:56:06] either renting it buying it that kind of thing and even though there is still a market for

[00:56:10] renting it it's not nearly the same as used to be because now what you're doing

[00:56:13] is you're getting movies that like sure they get a limited like a VOD release

[00:56:17] where the price is a little bit higher it's like a $20 you know thing to get it

[00:56:20] shortly after it's in theaters watch it at home but oftentimes a lot of people

[00:56:24] now are waiting for it to hit streaming where you don't have to pay a price for it

[00:56:28] you've already paid or subscription and it's the studio or the streaming service

[00:56:31] that has paid a licensing fee to be able to stream it and so now people who

[00:56:36] are supposed to get you know would normally get more back in dollars or the movie

[00:56:39] that would make more money that money's not coming anymore and that's why studios

[00:56:42] aren't taking the same risks on movies like they used to they're looking for

[00:56:46] what they hope are guaranteed hits and not taking risks on movies that might

[00:56:49] otherwise take time to find an audience and get a second life on home video

[00:56:53] or something like that I worked at blockbuster in college

[00:56:57] and I remember like to to a real world application of what you're talking about

[00:57:03] there were regulars that was show up on Tuesday when the because it was

[00:57:09] always a Tuesday when these movies came out still Tuesday yeah on VOD but

[00:57:13] on on Tuesday 10 am when we do open they would be there would be people

[00:57:18] outside waiting to get in and they go over to the new release and they would

[00:57:21] just get the five new releases no matter what they were yeah and it was

[00:57:25] a lot of people did that by the end of the first day on Tuesday a lot of times

[00:57:29] the new releases were gone yeah you could not and we had hundreds of copies

[00:57:33] they'd all be gone and so I get it that that used to happen yeah I'm old

[00:57:38] that's not a thing anymore yeah do you watch anything else Nate that's the only

[00:57:42] thing I really watched that's it I got caught watching C-span the other day

[00:57:46] okay that's good like this is trailers like hold on trailer time

[00:57:51] Brad's gonna the podcast so we've got to keep it going this is trailer

[00:57:55] trailer time Nate and Ben Brad are gonna have a real good time let's go

[00:58:01] do do do I bet I'm impressed we actually kind of knew where you're going with that

[00:58:06] I remember the second fellow gamers almost fell apart but you picked it back up

[00:58:10] yeah I run time with time again and I don't know if anybody caught it but I was

[00:58:14] worried about I didn't want to back in talking of it but like I'm I want to say

[00:58:18] this I remember your names I want you to receive hey name man man I'm gonna say

[00:58:22] this and I want you to receive it I'm listening I am proud of you yeah it was

[00:58:27] good job yeah it's the pressure of not talking about C-span I do want to know like oh my

[00:58:32] god you see you got caught like were you ashamed or like was in a mistake it was

[00:58:37] in the same at the theater yeah did you have your popcorn bucket your popcorn

[00:58:41] mom there's a lock on my door no the voting yes they so I do like the political

[00:58:50] process and I like to watch political you like to watch and so I just enjoy watching

[00:58:58] speed see span sometime that's it that's the saddest yeah that's really I'm a single

[00:59:03] man that didn't have my kids this weekend and I was watching C-span that is the

[00:59:06] saddest thing you know you have a choice right like unlimited choices you could have

[00:59:11] told me Nate and I'm being serious you could have said you were gone this weekend no

[00:59:14] but you could have said I watched a documentary about World War 2 and I would be

[00:59:18] like that's a little sad the C-span thing is is honestly honestly if you would

[00:59:22] have told me instead that like you took 15 minutes and just stared at the wall

[00:59:27] in your living room that's less sad than you choosing to watch C-span by yourself

[00:59:32] Nate if you would have if you would have driven down to the local Sherman Williams

[00:59:36] which does exist and bought a small pint of paint yeah come home painted one strip

[00:59:41] and watched it dry yeah it would have been less sad Nate if you had gone down

[00:59:45] to the local Sherman Williams which does exist yep and shot yourself in the face

[00:59:49] yeah that would have been less sad than you did to watch C-span by yourself

[00:59:56] received received did you be honest yeah did you pause it when you went to the

[01:00:01] bathroom so you didn't mess anything I don't possibly go to the bathroom okay I was

[01:00:05] good if he said yes I was gonna be I know that's gonna be so mad right there

[01:00:09] because of course it's important oh I got to watch voting history all my friends

[01:00:15] were gone mate I had you were in gutter kind of did hang out with Brad on

[01:00:18] Friday night but I didn't think you wanted to see me a second night so I love

[01:00:21] to see me say I especially if I can stop from watching C-span and Brad and I

[01:00:24] watched Jeopardy so it's not that much better

[01:00:26] Jeopardy is not sad it's a fun fun time yeah well was that much better than

[01:00:31] C-span yeah of course it's engaging and you get to learn things yeah

[01:00:34] laws are being made guys yeah game show history is being made every day what

[01:00:39] I'm supposed to do oh I'll take a sad weekend for a thousand Alex like oh

[01:00:45] what is watching C-span this young man watch C-span by himself over the weekend

[01:00:50] who is Nate Lauks I'm not young I'm 42 no you're too young to be watching C-span as

[01:00:55] you're saying yeah we're trying to give you the benefit of that come on you know

[01:00:59] next time buddy if you're if you're in a bad way like that I want you to call me

[01:01:02] I didn't think that was bad I thought I was doing well I was like C-span

[01:01:06] the political I think this might be the first time we actually get face

[01:01:08] were comments yeah that people like this is so sad I didn't know is Nate okay

[01:01:12] yeah yeah you're in his wells I mean I didn't have that's actual that's actual

[01:01:15] self-harmed it was a crazy watching C-span itself hard

[01:01:18] crazy fun night at home I made I made myself a crazy fun night at home and

[01:01:22] made myself a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and I watched C-span this is

[01:01:26] getting worse oh my god he has sandwich like he he made

[01:01:29] efforts to watch it I cut it I cut it in

[01:01:32] diagonally diagonal here no I didn't cut the crust off I like the crust

[01:01:37] the crust provides a nice boundary fiber and so all right we watch the trailers

[01:01:46] we watch the trailer for a new Netflix movie called the damsel this one

[01:01:51] stars millie Bobby Brown who is 11 on stranger things and now she's 18 I

[01:01:56] actually think she's like 24 no she's not engaged I think isn't she probably

[01:02:01] the Pedro Pascal she's 20 yeah she's 20 yeah I watched the whole movie you

[01:02:09] know you say this like she's engaged to Jake Bon Jovi that's the not John Bon

[01:02:14] Jovi son though it's just coincidence it is the son of John oh my god I just

[01:02:19] want you to know so he's made a move just said the humor to yeah she's engaged

[01:02:23] to Bill slash you know that's not slash is the son though that's a guy who own

[01:02:26] slash from by the way that is it nice it's not so yeah so yeah so

[01:02:33] stargine this movie it is a fantasy epic where she plays a woman who is being

[01:02:39] married into a royal family apparently it's something that like she needs to

[01:02:43] do to help save her people but what she doesn't know and what she maybe should

[01:02:48] be Leria is that this royal family isn't looking to marry her because their

[01:02:52] son is in love with her anything like that they're going to sacrifice her to

[01:02:56] help save their kingdom what she may want to be Leria well you never know

[01:03:00] could be a she may could be a nice sacrifice you know she'll have to be mad

[01:03:05] she could be but uh she gets chucked down into this cavern where there is a

[01:03:11] massive fire breathing dragon awaiting and she has to try to survive so bit of

[01:03:16] a prettier not vibe yeah for sure a little bit of a radio not vibe but but fantasy

[01:03:20] yeah exactly it looks cool I'm I'm in for this I'm the the CGI looks incredible

[01:03:25] the the filmmaking itself I just I wish it was more of a teaser that's all

[01:03:28] I'm saying I don't I personally don't think they showed too much I feel like I

[01:03:31] think that you forget that movie trailers used to show infinitely more of what

[01:03:36] it was in the movie and it was much it used to be much easier to parse out

[01:03:39] what was gonna happen in movie and I don't think you always necessarily can

[01:03:43] figure out what is happening I'm gonna write down what I think is happening

[01:03:46] this film and then when we see it I'm just gonna be like yep I was right

[01:03:48] cuz of the trailer but then you're gonna be like oh maybe whatever happens in

[01:03:50] the movie also makes it so that just knowing that doesn't matter because

[01:03:53] it's how it's told the it's it's not about the destination it's the journey to

[01:03:57] get there Ben I'm excited to see this I don't know what you guys talking about

[01:04:00] I said I was excited for the pencil one is like other she in the whole movie

[01:04:03] and how she might as a track Brad and I are on the fence about it because I'm

[01:04:07] not an offensive about it like you said Brad I agree I'm trying to

[01:04:09] agree with you we don't think that it should you should show the whole trailer

[01:04:14] there's a whole movie you guys like 28 weeks later I don't remember as much as

[01:04:19] 28 days later but I think it was fine probably I don't remember it okay why do

[01:04:24] you ask same guy made it okay what's their name Juan Carlos Frista

[01:04:31] Dila oh yeah he's done some other horror movies as well I think I think so

[01:04:36] yeah well that gives it he's done quite a bit in like Mexican film making as

[01:04:40] well I think that gives a little bit more credence because if you're good at

[01:04:43] horror because this could take you know the horror element of this is something

[01:04:47] that I thought was a light because it just looks more like what about what about

[01:04:50] what about why I actually thought it was nice to see that they didn't try and

[01:04:54] like bring any levity to the trailer like usually these days a lot of

[01:04:57] fannings movies have something that like kind of undercuts up but this is

[01:05:00] it's pretty serious straightforward movie yeah what about fast text where do you

[01:05:04] rank that in your your fast inferior it's towards the top yep because the

[01:05:09] writers the same writer good Chris Morgan what's that Chris Morgan or Dan

[01:05:14] Mizo okay so I mean so that that that's some pretty legit people right that are

[01:05:20] creating this film I'm excited when does it come out name Marcia that's

[01:05:26] another thing that I loved about this is the release date yes they released the

[01:05:30] trailer not long before the actual movie comes out which is great well that's

[01:05:34] a Netflix staple actually I know if depending on how big the movie is they'll

[01:05:37] do a teaser a couple months out and then they'll do the final trailer about one

[01:05:41] month or a couple weeks before which I love any trailer releasing because it

[01:05:45] gives us fodder on this podcast but I do like when trailers are released when

[01:05:49] you don't have to wait too long to see them yeah I'll be honest there's so much

[01:05:53] out there that oh did I watch the trailer if it's been three months and then

[01:05:58] I'm like oh yeah what's that about again and I don't but I don't I don't ever

[01:06:01] see it again until I see the actual theater in the theater or on VOD and I don't

[01:06:05] remember shit about the trailer and maybe that's a good thing because again I

[01:06:07] don't like spoilers I used to before this podcast years ago I absolutely never

[01:06:13] watched trailers I don't want to know I just want to go and blind and have a good

[01:06:16] time and I got now I got to watch for the stupid podcast not always you can do it

[01:06:21] sometimes so yeah so that's damn so comes out Marcia well we're excited about it

[01:06:27] the next trailer actually we should have covered this when we did Madame Dark

[01:06:32] Web Super Bowl party but we forgot about it basically not we you gave us the

[01:06:37] trailers are watching you know I did and honestly it's because so this the full

[01:06:40] trailer for this which is a quiet place day one actually came out several days

[01:06:45] before the Super Bowl they did air a shortened version during the Super Bowl

[01:06:48] but the trailer already been so it was the only trailer that hadn't been full

[01:06:52] or that was fully released before the Super Bowl the rest of them got released

[01:06:55] the day of the Super Bowl so that's kind of why I forgot about it sure but this

[01:06:58] is the trailer for a prequel to a quiet place the movies that John Krasinski wrote

[01:07:03] and directed about a family trying to survive in a post-apocalyptic world where

[01:07:08] sound sensitive aliens have basically wreaked havoc on the entire planet and

[01:07:13] they're just yeah trying to get by and this takes us place all the way back to

[01:07:17] the very first day of the invasion when the aliens arrive on Earth totally

[01:07:22] different vibe because it takes place in New York City a place that is extremely

[01:07:25] loud not just because of the people there but because of the sounds and the

[01:07:30] sounds are what is most important here that means because they don't I

[01:07:33] quote you not because of the people because of the sounds

[01:07:37] Lupita Nyongo stars in this movie and so does a cat and I'm very worried for

[01:07:44] that cat or yeah throughout the movie that cat that cat if that cat dies I

[01:07:48] will riot I mean the cat doesn't know to be quiet but the cat like it's

[01:07:52] lovable but it's just a cat the fuck up Nate now and then oh yeah that's you

[01:07:58] got a muffled the cat you know yeah all my whole cat all day long you that's

[01:08:02] on the gross I'll do it to this is just not a good episode shoot up mushroom

[01:08:06] make over here is gonna fuck a cat no kill kit oh nine ways the skin one oh my

[01:08:12] god wear nine skins this character's awful

[01:08:15] cool it's the little kid who I look at book a little over here with cats I got a

[01:08:20] cat suit the the teeny bopper's are gonna love this film because Joseph Quinn's in

[01:08:25] it the teeny boppers are gonna love a quiet place day one Joseph Quinn he's like

[01:08:30] the stranger things guy right yes Joseph Jo's a Quinn is the stranger things guy

[01:08:34] he's the I put it Eddie oh yeah all the jeans stranger things love for he

[01:08:39] actually just got cast as Johnny Storm Mickey human torch and the new fantastic

[01:08:43] one he's on the oven up pump yes he's good guy up the up for the guy though

[01:08:48] the teddy bobber on your years old that is kind of just hitting his mark now

[01:08:52] that's kind of fun I like when it is it is it feels you didn't know the fantastic

[01:08:56] forecast was officially announced this is for Marvel Studios attempted doing

[01:08:59] fantastic war which will hopefully outshine the other two poor attempts third

[01:09:03] times the charm they've got Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards they've got Vanessa Shaw

[01:09:09] as Sue Storm they have Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm and Evan Moss backer act from

[01:09:14] the bear as Ben Grimm aka the thing cousin cousin from the bear I love him so much

[01:09:21] yeah so that should be should be interesting it looks like it's gonna take place in

[01:09:24] the 60s I'm pretty excited about it just because I hope that Marvel can get

[01:09:28] back on track and it'll do something completely different than what we've been

[01:09:31] expecting the go ahead let me say Marvel getting back on track Marvel has

[01:09:36] done some still some good things compared to of course but they're bad

[01:09:40] images so we're higher but no but nowhere near where I agree listen if Babe Rooster

[01:09:44] this lump he's in a slump okay like you know he's still a pretty great

[01:09:47] group and Babe Rooster didn't get his shot at Jack before he had had played you

[01:09:51] know so what about Michael so on the guy that's doing this because John Krasinski

[01:09:55] wrote the story for this but he's not he's not making it right do you know

[01:09:59] anything about we're now back talking about a quiet place not fantastic

[01:10:02] yeah yeah it's crack sorry about that Nate likes to give us a little bit of

[01:10:04] whiplash well that was also directed by did you guys see pig with Nick Cage I

[01:10:10] didn't know it's very good so same guy that made pig is making this he doesn't

[01:10:14] have a huge history either is it is pig a revenge film at all or is it just I'm

[01:10:20] gonna get my piggyback film I have not seen pig either but I've heard it's

[01:10:22] fantastic it's not a revenge film in the way that John Wicke is okay yeah there's

[01:10:28] there are there's it because my I guess my maybe the better question is it just

[01:10:31] really just a sad movie go on in a way yes but not like the weather man thanks

[01:10:42] nifa fucking walk down that rainbow road yeah you're such a dig and you know who's

[01:10:48] producing this film um John Krasinski Michael Bay well that's just because his

[01:10:53] platinum dunes production banner is the one yeah I mean he's not like an active

[01:10:56] producer you know but you don't know that I do that that's how the system works yeah

[01:11:00] it's a part of it's set he's not he could be never know he's not

[01:11:04] hmm does that Michael Bay could have directed small soldiers I wonder what that

[01:11:09] would have been like bad it is interesting though that the original team obviously

[01:11:15] Krasinski still involved in this it just a clip just recently came out where

[01:11:20] he was talking about it so it doesn't do that right hey but by the way did you

[01:11:25] that uh my way could have done it and then he goes moving on like you do you know

[01:11:29] know I also feel like Brad has like thousands of little bit of information that

[01:11:32] he's gleaned over the years in the film like you know that Priscilla Presley

[01:11:36] was almost a spice girl and move it on that's true but that's kind of shit you

[01:11:39] would come up with they'd be fun um she does have goose feathers in her bed

[01:11:45] but no it's yeah there's a clip an interview where you're talking about

[01:11:50] that because Spielberg initially wanted him to direct it but apparently

[01:11:53] when Bay like pitched his take on it the producers like they weren't quite yeah

[01:11:57] it's a children's movie you have women in bikinis and machine guns like we

[01:12:00] can't have this to be fair small soldiers still does have technically women

[01:12:04] in bikinis with machine guns their dolls but they're still yeah that's fair I'm

[01:12:08] sorry you know you know what I watched it I had a pretty big soldier small

[01:12:12] small yeah what is good on yeah she's yeah oh my god he's jerking off to

[01:12:19] dolls hey reasonably it back into the voice um you all miss the voice I like

[01:12:24] small soldiers though they were gonna remake it small soldiers yep and who's

[01:12:28] they um shut up Ben one big soldier 20 century Fox the

[01:12:33] scriptures purchased in January 2014 and directing just director Justin

[01:12:37] Lynn was set to produce the film I mean I watched that but just in Lynn due to

[01:12:42] the acquisition of 21st century Fox by Disney on March 20th 2019 Disney later

[01:12:49] in August canceled the film along with the other with over 200 other projects

[01:12:52] wow I feel like it probably was already like perfect dead at that point anyway but yeah

[01:12:56] I mean the six years movies that we are just never gonna see the light of day you

[01:13:00] know because of studio acquisitions and the new headhound comes in like I'm not

[01:13:03] doing that oh it's not even necessarily just because of acquisitions though

[01:13:05] there's tons of scripts that get bought and like announced that you'll hear about

[01:13:08] all the time that never actually oh no I know that but they're the the specific

[01:13:12] reason of it though like yeah it's definitely like no I don't want to release

[01:13:15] that anymore because I'm in charge and I don't like that wasn't my idea the

[01:13:19] ego on these people just to show things that people work really hard on

[01:13:22] that would be good movies yeah it does happen you know can we talk a little bit

[01:13:25] because I want to hear you rant a little bit about coyote versus Acme yeah

[01:13:29] that's exactly what that's exactly where I was going

[01:13:32] so if I let you do that and be having heard about this because you're not ingrained

[01:13:36] in film world like like we are there's this movie called coyote versus Acme

[01:13:41] it is a animated live action hybrid that stars a wildy coyote features a lot of

[01:13:46] loony tunes characters its space jam ask but it basically it's it follows the

[01:13:51] lawsuit that wildy coyote files against the Acme corporation love this

[01:13:55] premise but company that is behind all of the failed gadgets and tricks that

[01:13:59] he's used to try and catch roadrunner over the years will forte isn't he plays

[01:14:03] wildy coyotes lawyer it is apparently very very good it is because it's a

[01:14:09] little bit so it's it's getting I didn't hear that so it got it got it had

[01:14:12] had some screenings the reactions to the screenings have been very good people

[01:14:16] online who have seen it some people who like who know people involved with

[01:14:20] that have seen and that said we are three jokers that love will forte true

[01:14:23] and I love loony tunes and so David says lab who is the the current devil devil

[01:14:31] he's running Warner Brothers right now he's been making some pretty piss poor

[01:14:35] decisions in recent years previously shelved batgirl which was a movie that

[01:14:40] was in the works those supposed to come out and just they just act it and

[01:14:42] they will never be released and they decided to take a tax write off instead

[01:14:45] and that is exactly what he decided was getting bad reviews either right like

[01:14:49] screenings were was finished yet so yeah so this that's what he decided to do with

[01:14:54] coyote versus Acme a movie that was very close to being completely finished

[01:14:58] he decided to show it and take a tax write-off instead there was some

[01:15:04] backlash over this and Warner Brothers pretended basically that they were

[01:15:10] going to put it up for sale for somebody else to distribute but as a story

[01:15:15] came out after the that will never a deal never came together because even

[01:15:19] though they made it seem like they were looking to sell to somebody they

[01:15:22] weren't seriously entertaining any offers that anybody made because they

[01:15:25] would much rather take the money they would give from a tax write-off rather

[01:15:29] than risk selling it to somebody having that movie turned into a success and

[01:15:32] being further embarrassed by that turnaround so in short David Slas live piece

[01:15:37] of shit a movie that people put hundreds thousands of man hours into to make

[01:15:41] work something that is apparently good uses Warner Brothers legacy characters

[01:15:45] characters who have defined the studio who have made a ton of money for

[01:15:50] generations will and unless somebody is a hero and leaks this movie we won't

[01:15:55] get to see it because he's being a businessman who just wants to make money

[01:15:59] in the easiest way possible he's also hold on let's defend David shut the fuck

[01:16:04] about here a little bit David Zaz about Zaz Zaz now David Zaz

[01:16:08] David David Zaz David Zaz you know oh also a lot of hard decisions make

[01:16:12] right you don't know his life here's another thing he hasn't even seen the movie

[01:16:16] you know he's also uh Davey Z he he's like me okay he's got a gut feeling about

[01:16:23] things and he's usually pretty right gutter feeling yeah he also is to

[01:16:27] building for he pulls a lot of things off the streaming services because he

[01:16:30] doesn't want to pay residuals yeah but it's me and yeah I can only get mad at

[01:16:34] him so far about that because that's what all the streaming servers are doing now

[01:16:37] but I think he was one of the first ones to do it probably he wants to

[01:16:40] pinch up any every time and I understand you want to make a lot of money

[01:16:43] yeah David Zaz live is like is the the big lots of movie studios

[01:16:49] he does seem to live within the boundaries of understanding that yeah we

[01:16:56] could maybe potentially make more money but it's it's good for the brand and

[01:17:00] it's good for our fans to do this you're you're definitely doing yourself a

[01:17:04] disservice to anybody that wants to respect you as he didn't care about

[01:17:09] that he's always making money yeah he's very short-sighted thing he does not

[01:17:13] care about the art by any means he is he's strictly all product it is a

[01:17:18] commodity right it is content yep that is it so fuck David Zaz live I'm keeping my

[01:17:23] fingers crossed that somebody was able to get coyote versus ack me out of the

[01:17:28] hard drive or whatever you've got a copy and he just don't know how to get it

[01:17:30] online we're pretty smart so just you know come to our website and shoot us a

[01:17:36] message and David if you'd like to come on the podcast let's
