Ben, Brad, and Nate have reunited! It's been a few weeks, but Ben is over Covid, Brad is back from London, and Nate has been waiting forever for things to get back to normal. They've watched a bunch of movies too! Ben caught up with The Holdovers and The Beekeeper, and both Brad and Nate saw Argylle. Plus, Brad caught a few Sundance movies, and Nate has been watching a TV show, but it's okay, because it was previously a movie too. Since Brad went across the pond, you know he's got a very British sponsor, so put on some tea and crumpets and get chuffed, innit? 'Ello, guvnah!

[00:00:00] Hey everybody, Hey everybody, Hey everybody, Go Flix Yourself
[00:00:17] Hey everybody, it's another episode of Go Flix Yourself.
[00:00:19] My name is Ben Conowitz and with me as always is the Birkenstock to my Air Jordans Bradford
[00:00:25] Omen.
[00:00:26] Hey that's me!
[00:00:27] Just my toesies out wild open and free.
[00:00:30] Damn hippie.
[00:00:31] The Adidas slides to my Air Jordans.
[00:00:34] Nate Lauches.
[00:00:35] I'm so 90s.
[00:00:36] Wait, why the fuck do you get full on sneakers and we're just flip flops?
[00:00:41] The whole point of this is supposed to make fun of you and make me look good.
[00:00:44] Have you not been listening to the show ever?
[00:00:46] This is the first time.
[00:00:47] But like there's at least should have been an equal shoe comparison.
[00:00:49] You got an expensive slipper at least.
[00:00:51] No, footwear.
[00:00:52] You got an expensive one.
[00:00:53] It's just footwear Brad.
[00:00:54] Are Birkenstocks that expensive?
[00:00:56] They are.
[00:00:57] Birkenstocks are not cheap.
[00:00:58] No.
[00:00:59] Okay.
[00:01:00] Welcome.
[00:01:01] Yeah.
[00:01:02] It's good to have you back.
[00:01:03] Kind of a compliment mother fucker.
[00:01:04] Seriously, it was better than mine.
[00:01:05] I like Air Jordans though.
[00:01:07] I love Air Jordans.
[00:01:08] Hey welcome back!
[00:01:09] It's been like a month.
[00:01:11] It's been a while.
[00:01:12] It's been a few weeks.
[00:01:13] Brad's been freaking...
[00:01:14] He's in Britain.
[00:01:15] I was traveling.
[00:01:16] No one calls it Britain anymore.
[00:01:17] Well he was in Britain and then he was in Brittany.
[00:01:19] Oh sorry.
[00:01:20] Great Britain.
[00:01:21] Great Brittany.
[00:01:22] It's good Britain to me.
[00:01:24] Amen brother.
[00:01:25] Oh my God.
[00:01:26] And then he got not COVID.
[00:01:27] I went to London for a bit.
[00:01:28] I got sick when I came back.
[00:01:30] Thankfully...
[00:01:31] Then I got COVID.
[00:01:32] Yeah, you got COVID.
[00:01:33] I didn't get COVID but I had a terrible sinus infection in bronchitis.
[00:01:35] Nate, I don't know.
[00:01:38] He was ready the whole time.
[00:01:40] I wonder what the difference is.
[00:01:41] You know, I take care of myself.
[00:01:42] What's the difference?
[00:01:43] Are we two fat pieces of shit?
[00:01:45] And Nate's like in the best shape of his life right now?
[00:01:47] Probably.
[00:01:48] Maybe.
[00:01:49] I don't believe that.
[00:01:50] I don't believe that.
[00:01:51] So anyway, welcome back to GoFlixt yourself.
[00:01:53] We've missed you.
[00:01:54] We have.
[00:01:55] We've missed us.
[00:01:56] We've missed each other.
[00:01:57] We have been doing our 10 to 1 podcast though.
[00:01:58] Yes.
[00:01:59] So if you're an SNL fan, Ben and I have been stumbling through.
[00:02:03] Crying.
[00:02:04] Not that hard.
[00:02:05] But yeah, it's a movie podcast, comedy podcast where we talk about the latest
[00:02:09] movies we've seen.
[00:02:10] We talk about some movie trailers and if somebody writes a game, we play a game.
[00:02:13] In TV shows.
[00:02:14] No, we don't talk about T-Shoot.
[00:02:15] Especially not this time because we haven't recorded it in so long.
[00:02:18] We do have some movies to get through.
[00:02:20] I'm talking about TV show though.
[00:02:21] I am too.
[00:02:22] I would have the same one.
[00:02:24] Well maybe.
[00:02:25] I hope so.
[00:02:26] I don't know.
[00:02:27] I can't wait buddy.
[00:02:28] So we are a little bit pressed for time because we've got so many movies to talk
[00:02:30] about.
[00:02:31] So Brad, let's just get through the sponsor.
[00:02:32] Just as is just.
[00:02:33] Do we have a sponsor?
[00:02:34] Quickly as possible.
[00:02:35] So who is sponsored and go.
[00:02:36] We definitely got a sponsor.
[00:02:37] Hello, go bro.
[00:02:39] Oh yeah, that's right.
[00:02:40] I just got back from a foggy London town.
[00:02:43] What's your favourite British memory?
[00:02:46] Hello, man.
[00:02:47] You've got a favourite British memory that just gets your noggin moving, does it?
[00:02:51] No.
[00:02:52] Now you haven't got a favourite British memory?
[00:02:54] No, I don't.
[00:02:55] In it?
[00:02:56] In it?
[00:02:57] That's selling it, mate.
[00:02:58] Yeah.
[00:02:59] Yeah, just fuck her over here then they got no British memories.
[00:03:03] Just fuck over here now you're a British memory.
[00:03:05] Boy, you know what?
[00:03:06] Because I was in London and I brought back a British sponsor.
[00:03:09] Oh God.
[00:03:10] I did.
[00:03:11] It's tasty.
[00:03:12] You're going to laugh because you're going to think it's not quite a British snack.
[00:03:17] If this is just like American Kit Kats.
[00:03:20] I got these at the airport and he throw.
[00:03:23] They were just American Kit Kats.
[00:03:25] I love Kit Kats because if it's Kit Kats I am so happy right now.
[00:03:27] I mean British Kit Kats they do have, they taste a little bit better in the UK
[00:03:31] because they use a different chocolate.
[00:03:33] It's a different chocolate and it's a better chocolate.
[00:03:35] But also you're American.
[00:03:37] It's better chocolate.
[00:03:38] Eat American.
[00:03:39] No, the chocolate is way better than American chocolate.
[00:03:41] Oh jeez.
[00:03:43] Shut up white boy.
[00:03:45] Anyway this is.
[00:03:47] It's a bit wafer in it.
[00:03:49] You're going to laugh because when you fuck.
[00:03:51] Because freaking Great Britain is super diverse.
[00:03:53] Because when you find out.
[00:03:55] They definitely know how to make good food.
[00:03:57] Because when you find out what this snack is you're going to be like well that's not a British snack
[00:04:01] but it is because we don't have it here
[00:04:03] and it's a flavor profile that is a little bit more common in the UK in general.
[00:04:08] So I'm going to scoot it over to Ben T.
[00:04:10] You can take a little handful of this.
[00:04:12] Oh boy.
[00:04:13] Scooch it, scoot it over.
[00:04:14] Don't look at the front or the back of the bag.
[00:04:16] Just grab a little handful out of there.
[00:04:18] Maybe give something to Nate too.
[00:04:19] Oh why don't you just send the bag over here just in case I like it.
[00:04:21] I'm not worried about that.
[00:04:23] Just take some of that.
[00:04:24] Make sure you give them, make sure so you can get a good flavor.
[00:04:26] You got a kernel.
[00:04:27] I got one kernel.
[00:04:28] It's popcorn so you do know that.
[00:04:32] I don't know, I was like cracked pepper.
[00:04:36] I don't know, I only had two kernels so I didn't have a time.
[00:04:38] Is it salmon?
[00:04:39] Is it salmon?
[00:04:40] It tastes like fish.
[00:04:41] Tilapia?
[00:04:42] It does taste like fish.
[00:04:44] No, it's not fish.
[00:04:45] Is that fish?
[00:04:46] It's not fish.
[00:04:47] Are you sure?
[00:04:48] No, it's not fish and chips.
[00:04:49] There's definitely a very fish.
[00:04:51] It's not great though.
[00:04:52] Yeah.
[00:04:53] It's not real good.
[00:04:54] What is this?
[00:04:55] You're on the path as far as thinking about something that's fried.
[00:04:57] Is this tuna?
[00:04:58] Not tuna.
[00:04:59] There's no, there's no fish.
[00:05:01] It's not fish.
[00:05:02] Is it, is it...
[00:05:05] Okay, just what is it?
[00:05:07] Oh you want me to tell you?
[00:05:08] Oh my God.
[00:05:09] You'll know what this snack is.
[00:05:10] Yeah.
[00:05:11] My favorite British memory is this never happening again.
[00:05:14] I got a whole bag full of British snacks mate so they're going to be coming back around
[00:05:17] on Rindrow and Round.
[00:05:20] On Rindrow and Round?
[00:05:21] Well yeah, as long as they come back on Rindrow and Round.
[00:05:23] So this is a brand called Proper Popcorn and they have a flavor in the UK that
[00:05:28] is popcorn chicken popcorn from KFC Kentucky Fried Chicken.
[00:05:32] Oh that makes more sense.
[00:05:33] Yeah definitely fish.
[00:05:34] It tastes like the original recipe seasoning from KFC when you hear it you're like oh
[00:05:40] yeah that's...
[00:05:41] It's not good though.
[00:05:42] I like it actually, I think it's really good.
[00:05:43] Yeah Brett said nine handfuls.
[00:05:44] You're acting a lot like me.
[00:05:48] Don't go there.
[00:05:49] This is the first time I've tried it and it's actually really good.
[00:05:51] It's like Nate with his ketchup fucking Pringles.
[00:05:53] Oh those are freaking good.
[00:05:54] I knew this existed over there and they also did have some KFC chicken flavored
[00:05:58] chips that they weren't near a wide area.
[00:06:00] I have heard that like British people love Kentucky Fried Chicken.
[00:06:03] Like it's like the number one thing.
[00:06:04] Yeah well they actually like chicken flavored things because one of the regular
[00:06:07] Lay's flavors over there is rotisserie chicken and those chips were
[00:06:10] actually really good too.
[00:06:11] But yeah, I really like this actually.
[00:06:14] It's pretty good.
[00:06:15] So Proper Popcorn KFC Popcorn Chicken Flavor.
[00:06:18] I found it...
[00:06:19] Thanks for sponsoring Proper Popcorn.
[00:06:21] Yeah thanks for bringing your popcorn over and putting it in my mouth.
[00:06:24] Hello Governor.
[00:06:25] Thanks for all the loonies.
[00:06:26] Yeah I like to pop my kernels in here.
[00:06:28] Yeah you got some loonies.
[00:06:29] Pop, pop, pop.
[00:06:30] Don't want you popping your kernels anywhere buddy.
[00:06:32] Oh trust me man, I'm gonna pop my kernels all over.
[00:06:34] Deutsch mocks and...
[00:06:35] What?
[00:06:36] I don't know what's the currency over there.
[00:06:38] The Euro.
[00:06:39] Oh is that what they're on?
[00:06:40] Yeah.
[00:06:41] Really?
[00:06:42] Is that the British pound of it?
[00:06:43] No it's the pound.
[00:06:44] Fuck this.
[00:06:45] They didn't specifically didn't go with it.
[00:06:47] You asshole.
[00:06:48] Oh Euro?
[00:06:49] No you idiot.
[00:06:50] No it's British pounds.
[00:06:52] So yeah there you go.
[00:06:53] I do have some other snacks that I'll bring.
[00:06:55] Oh great.
[00:06:56] I have a great lineup coming up.
[00:06:57] Not just from the UK either but like there's some Easter stuff coming that you guys are
[00:07:00] gonna just fucking...
[00:07:01] Ooh we're gonna be so mad.
[00:07:02] Oh I hope there's not a peep.
[00:07:03] Because I hate peeps so much.
[00:07:05] You like peeps?
[00:07:06] No.
[00:07:07] No peeps are gross.
[00:07:08] I'm not gonna give anything away.
[00:07:09] There is a tilapia and or salmon flavor in my mouth right now.
[00:07:12] A tilapia peep.
[00:07:13] I just cannot...
[00:07:14] My mouth tastes disgusting.
[00:07:17] You're just tasting what would be like the fried breading flavor.
[00:07:22] Do you only eat fried fish?
[00:07:24] Do you only eat fried fish?
[00:07:25] Yeah do you ever only eat fried fish?
[00:07:27] No I never eat fried fish.
[00:07:28] No that's weird.
[00:07:29] Yeah.
[00:07:30] Cause it doesn't taste like a good fish fry.
[00:07:31] Cause we're freaking in Northwest Indiana you better eat some fried fish.
[00:07:34] It's like asking me do you eat deep fried vegetables?
[00:07:36] No I'm not gonna take a bad thing and try to make it good.
[00:07:38] I'm just not gonna eat it.
[00:07:39] Are you not a fish fan?
[00:07:40] No if I'm gonna eat fish though I'm gonna eat like you know black and plank salmon
[00:07:44] or something healthy.
[00:07:45] Oh you're so fancy.
[00:07:46] Well no I'm healthy.
[00:07:47] Are you healthy?
[00:07:48] No but if I'm gonna try I'm gonna eat healthy.
[00:07:51] I am eating salmon but...
[00:07:53] Exactly.
[00:07:54] I'm not gonna have like you know oh let's just like you know let me just do a raw
[00:07:57] devein shrimp and a nice girl like Aloe.
[00:08:00] No I'm gonna do coconut shrimp deep fried like I'm gonna...
[00:08:03] Yeah deep fried you gotta deep fry it's delicious.
[00:08:07] Well thank you.
[00:08:10] Maybe your taste buds are still broken in COVID.
[00:08:12] Probably.
[00:08:13] Yeah idiot.
[00:08:14] Anyway.
[00:08:15] At least you don't have the thing where food tastes like rotting flesh.
[00:08:17] Thank goodness.
[00:08:18] Yeah it's a real thing.
[00:08:20] Cool.
[00:08:21] Um hey Brad.
[00:08:22] Ah.
[00:08:23] What are the 37 movies that you've seen?
[00:08:26] Can we do this first before we get to Brad's movies?
[00:08:28] Sure.
[00:08:29] You were in England.
[00:08:30] I was.
[00:08:31] You interviewed the Argyle cast and...
[00:08:33] I went to London for a press junkie.
[00:08:35] Yeah I guess we should give you your humble Brad.
[00:08:37] I went to London for a press junkie for a slash film to cover the movie Argyle.
[00:08:42] That's Matthew Vaughn's latest movie, the director of the Kingsman movies
[00:08:45] Which I saw.
[00:08:46] Kicass and X-Men First Class and whatnot.
[00:08:48] I liked Matthew Vaughn.
[00:08:49] And I got to interview Bryce Dallas Howard and Brian Cranston and John Cena and Ariana
[00:08:54] DeBose and Matthew Vaughn himself did not get to interview Sam Rockwell and Henry Cavill
[00:08:59] because when you do these press junkets you have to put requests in for the interviews.
[00:09:02] They tell you the talent they have available and you say here's who he would like to
[00:09:06] get and then they the publicist talk to the actor or directors representatives
[00:09:11] and they determine like...
[00:09:12] So why doesn't Henry Cavill like you?
[00:09:14] Well it wasn't Henry Cavill.
[00:09:15] I don't know if he would have turned us down or not.
[00:09:17] It was Sam Rockwell who we knew turned us down.
[00:09:20] Like either the Jimmy's or I don't want to interview him.
[00:09:22] Sam Rockwell didn't but Sam Rockwell's reps did for whatever reason and it could be just because
[00:09:26] even though slash film is a pretty sizable well known website among certain entertainments.
[00:09:31] It's not big enough.
[00:09:32] We're not the New York Times, we're not Vanity Fair, not that kind of thing.
[00:09:35] And so sometimes it's just the reps not necessarily being familiar enough with us to tell them this is a good idea.
[00:09:41] Is he the biggest actor in this film?
[00:09:44] Or would you have had the most requests?
[00:09:46] No, no.
[00:09:47] He's a pretty big dude.
[00:09:48] No, I mean he's the co-lead of the movie Christel's House.
[00:09:51] He was really good in this.
[00:09:52] No, no.
[00:09:53] The question is he's the biggest actor.
[00:09:55] Henry Cavill is huge.
[00:09:56] Yeah, Henry Cavill is the biggest actor in the film.
[00:09:58] It's huge in this.
[00:09:59] Not in this story.
[00:10:00] John Cena is a larger famous person.
[00:10:05] More people know John Cena than know Sam Rockwell.
[00:10:08] I would say Sam Rockwell is probably a more respected actor.
[00:10:11] Absolutely, but John Cena is way more popular.
[00:10:13] Sam Rockwell is great.
[00:10:14] And again, I'm not saying that because I'm saying he's bad.
[00:10:17] So anyway, so Sam Rockwell turned us down and actors were paired for these interviews.
[00:10:22] So Sam was paired with Henry.
[00:10:24] Henry wasn't doing solo interviews.
[00:10:26] And so since Henry was paired with Sam, we didn't get Henry Cavill either.
[00:10:29] So I did not get to interview either of them, which was a little bit of a bummer.
[00:10:31] But I did end up hearing that Sam Rockwell was getting over being sick and Henry Cavill was getting sick.
[00:10:37] And so their interviews weren't necessarily all that exciting because they were just kind of over it by that point.
[00:10:42] Yeah, no, Superman was fine. I'm in the Witcher.
[00:10:45] So as a single man, Brace House Howard.
[00:10:48] Oh yeah, she's got it.
[00:10:51] She's got it.
[00:10:53] I have the biggest crush on her.
[00:10:54] She's got it. She can get it.
[00:10:55] No, and we wouldn't be very clear that Brad is not single.
[00:10:58] No, no, I am.
[00:10:59] But the way you said that, as a single man, Brad.
[00:11:01] No.
[00:11:02] Brad's not like that.
[00:11:03] No, but I love her.
[00:11:04] She's really engaged.
[00:11:06] Is she beautiful in person?
[00:11:07] Absolutely. She's beautiful. She's nice.
[00:11:09] She seems charming and wonderful.
[00:11:11] It was lovely to talk to.
[00:11:12] The one thing that did throw me off a little bit, because this doesn't normally happen,
[00:11:15] is when I sat down to interview, she was paired with Brian Cranston.
[00:11:18] Before the interview even started, she goes,
[00:11:20] So did you like the movie?
[00:11:21] And it's like, don't fucking ask me that what I'm about to interview.
[00:11:23] Because if what if I didn't, you're going to make this real weird.
[00:11:26] Well, you're going to just lie and say yes, and then you're going to shit on it later.
[00:11:29] Of course.
[00:11:31] So yeah, ask that.
[00:11:33] Oh, I love it. Thank you so much.
[00:11:34] Give me what I need knowing that I love the movie.
[00:11:36] And then you're like, worst argoil.
[00:11:38] I would have watched an argoil.
[00:11:40] An argoil sweater.
[00:11:41] Argoil is what I would have watched.
[00:11:43] So I'm interested because this is the world that I live in.
[00:11:46] No, we're going to get to that because I saw it too.
[00:11:48] But I'm interested as just like interested in what you do.
[00:11:51] So when you go over there, you're there for a week, right?
[00:11:54] No, no, I was literally there for like two and a half days.
[00:11:56] Two days.
[00:11:57] Okay.
[00:11:58] So what is it like?
[00:11:59] What does that day look like?
[00:12:00] Because you're only interviewing them one day, right?
[00:12:02] Yeah.
[00:12:03] And so is it just you're in a room or do they say, okay, Brad,
[00:12:06] your turn, go into the room where the actors are?
[00:12:08] So it depends.
[00:12:09] I've been in situations where when you were doing a set visit,
[00:12:12] we're on set and either we'll talk to the actors in between like
[00:12:16] setups actually on the set of the movie,
[00:12:19] or they'll take us to like a room close to set for a bit
[00:12:22] and they'll bring in the cast who is like waiting nearby.
[00:12:25] This was a press junkie situation that they had set up at a hotel.
[00:12:29] They have some rooms rented out.
[00:12:31] They have a whole camera crew there in each room where they're
[00:12:35] sitting there.
[00:12:36] We're all fully lit.
[00:12:37] Like if we're, their interviews are set up as if I was doing
[00:12:40] interviews on TV.
[00:12:41] Because some of them are.
[00:12:42] Yeah.
[00:12:43] Some people are doing these four TV or even just for video
[00:12:45] online.
[00:12:46] So this would be funny if like it's like, you know,
[00:12:48] Byron Allen comes in right before you.
[00:12:50] It's all fully lit.
[00:12:51] You walk in the room, they just shut the lights off.
[00:12:53] Yeah.
[00:12:54] This one's not going online.
[00:12:55] It's fine.
[00:12:56] We don't need this guy to have HD face.
[00:12:58] We don't want any of that makeup.
[00:13:00] No, honestly, just so you can look at them.
[00:13:02] So, but yeah, so it's a full camera crews and everything like
[00:13:07] it's set up by way and I don't prefer this,
[00:13:10] this kind because when they're doing TV setups,
[00:13:13] they give you a lot less time because they have to get
[00:13:15] through more people and they're trying to do like,
[00:13:18] you know, more quick bites as opposed to like digging
[00:13:20] into like in-depth interview stuff.
[00:13:22] So like I prefer if it's just going to be audio getting
[00:13:25] 10 to 15 minutes and you know, even if it's not in video,
[00:13:27] it's cool to have these interviews on video because
[00:13:29] it's fun, you know.
[00:13:31] But but yeah, I would prefer to have more time rather than,
[00:13:34] you know, having the professional crew to shoot it
[00:13:36] and you know, that kind of thing.
[00:13:38] Top of your head, top of your brain here.
[00:13:40] What is the longest time you've ever spent with
[00:13:43] somebody and like me?
[00:13:46] He's spent a lot of time with me.
[00:13:48] Like I know that you, you've interviewed Edgar
[00:13:49] right before and I think you've had a kind of a longer
[00:13:51] time with them.
[00:13:52] Yeah, I spent like an hour and a half on the phone with
[00:13:54] Edgar Wright one time.
[00:13:55] You think that's the longest you've ever spent on the phone?
[00:13:57] Absolutely, 100%.
[00:13:58] An hour and a half is it.
[00:13:59] That's a friendship.
[00:14:00] That's a friend.
[00:14:01] He's going to be your wedding, right?
[00:14:03] Exactly.
[00:14:04] That and then this was, this wasn't just me but
[00:14:07] two of the set visits I did.
[00:14:08] If you say Arnold Schwarzenegger,
[00:14:09] I'm gonna kill you.
[00:14:10] No, no.
[00:14:11] I did a set visit for Real Steel and Sean Levy,
[00:14:14] the director came to dinner and was there with us
[00:14:17] for like two and a half hours.
[00:14:18] Did you go to dinner with Taika Waititi?
[00:14:19] Yeah, that's the other one I was gonna say is Taika Waititi
[00:14:21] came out to dinner with us for Thor Ragnarok and he was there
[00:14:23] for like three and a half hours.
[00:14:24] Did you guys listen to his smile this episode?
[00:14:25] I did.
[00:14:26] A lot of cocaine, a lot of cocaine.
[00:14:28] But he also came across a little different.
[00:14:30] A lot of cocaine.
[00:14:31] Also just not as, or a little more serious.
[00:14:34] He was more reserved actually.
[00:14:35] No.
[00:14:36] I felt like, did you, when you listen to that?
[00:14:38] Yeah.
[00:14:39] But it was because he was, he had literally just gotten
[00:14:41] off a flight.
[00:14:42] Yeah.
[00:14:43] So I'm sure he was just like sitting on a tired,
[00:14:45] it just wasn't,
[00:14:46] But I didn't know if that's just kind of his personality.
[00:14:48] I honestly give him credit here because he just got off a flight.
[00:14:51] That's gotta be the thing.
[00:14:52] I think that's it too, but I also,
[00:14:53] I think he's the kind of person,
[00:14:54] having spent some days,
[00:14:55] You would know.
[00:14:56] Let us tell you what it's like.
[00:14:58] He's not one of those people who is always on
[00:15:01] because when we were at dinner,
[00:15:02] he wasn't like high energy cracking jokes.
[00:15:04] Like he still would naturally,
[00:15:06] but he wasn't like he was putting on a show or anything.
[00:15:08] So did he put on a show?
[00:15:09] No.
[00:15:10] And like someone like Aziz Ansari is like that too,
[00:15:13] honestly, like you would think that he would be a little
[00:15:15] more open energetic, that kind of thing.
[00:15:17] Because his comedy is all like,
[00:15:19] Well not quite.
[00:15:20] That's more randy, you know, from funny people.
[00:15:22] But yeah, he has more energy,
[00:15:24] but in real life talking to him,
[00:15:25] he's more reserved and a little bit like,
[00:15:27] like you can tell he's more chill
[00:15:29] just like in his normal life.
[00:15:31] Sure.
[00:15:32] But yeah, so I saw Argyle.
[00:15:34] They showed us the movie before we did the interviews.
[00:15:36] Guard oil?
[00:15:37] You want to talk about it?
[00:15:38] Yeah for sure.
[00:15:39] The weird thing is,
[00:15:40] so because we did the junkie interviews,
[00:15:41] we had to see the movie first obviously.
[00:15:43] But they had the world premiere in London
[00:15:46] the day after we did the interviews.
[00:15:48] So it's like, okay,
[00:15:49] why aren't you guys just sending us to like,
[00:15:50] to the fucking cool world premiere then?
[00:15:52] And I can go hang out with Dua Lipa or something.
[00:15:54] Well yeah, why would they though?
[00:15:55] You're a bunch of shlots.
[00:15:56] Did you interview Dua Lipa?
[00:15:57] No, because she wasn't there.
[00:15:58] She didn't get there until the day that I left.
[00:16:00] That's not a real question though, Brad.
[00:16:02] Why wouldn't they send a bunch of
[00:16:04] press nerds to the world premiere?
[00:16:06] Well, that's what they know,
[00:16:07] they're not all nerds like me.
[00:16:08] But like they're,
[00:16:09] no but like they do send like people
[00:16:11] to like press people all the time
[00:16:13] to the world premiere.
[00:16:14] Like that's what the red carpet is for.
[00:16:15] There's always a bunch of press at world premieres, you know.
[00:16:17] But isn't that just all television?
[00:16:19] No, not at all.
[00:16:20] I disagree.
[00:16:21] Well you're wrong.
[00:16:22] So yeah, so I did see Argyle and I
[00:16:25] I saw it at the theater.
[00:16:27] I liked it but I was lukewarm on it initially.
[00:16:31] But the more I thought about it,
[00:16:32] the more I appreciated how wild
[00:16:35] and unhinged it got as it went on.
[00:16:37] Because the first half of the movie is very much
[00:16:39] what you see in the trailer.
[00:16:41] The setup of like, oh Bryce Dallas Howard is this
[00:16:43] damsel in distress who's caught up in this world of
[00:16:45] entry that she doesn't understand and she doesn't know why.
[00:16:47] And she's created these novels that are somehow
[00:16:49] tied to a real spy world
[00:16:51] and she gets caught up and Sam Rockwell is trying
[00:16:53] to protect her from all these deadly spies.
[00:16:55] The second half digs into
[00:16:57] wild twisty Matthew Vaughan
[00:16:59] is crazy territory like robot dogs.
[00:17:01] They flip, they flip it.
[00:17:03] Yeah, and there are literally, I'm not joking,
[00:17:05] six or seven different twists
[00:17:07] that totally change the game of the movie.
[00:17:09] Oh wow.
[00:17:10] It becomes really fun.
[00:17:11] Yeah, it's, I had a lot of fun with it
[00:17:13] and the more I thought about it, especially
[00:17:15] there's two action sequences in the third act.
[00:17:17] You haven't seen anything like this
[00:17:19] in a movie before.
[00:17:20] Whoa, that's saying something.
[00:17:22] And not necessarily in like a
[00:17:24] oh this is cool John Wick kind of way.
[00:17:26] It's just like, oh my god, this is so weird
[00:17:28] and silly but like, yeah, but it's fun.
[00:17:30] And so for the most part
[00:17:32] I honestly walked away enjoying it.
[00:17:34] I gave it a good review and I really did like it.
[00:17:36] Did you think though, like,
[00:17:38] I liked it as well.
[00:17:39] I thought it was about 20 minutes too long.
[00:17:41] Yes, it does feel like it overstays it welcome.
[00:17:43] It's welcome a bit.
[00:17:44] But did you feel like they should have went
[00:17:47] a little bit more bloody like Kingsman?
[00:17:49] I felt like that could have been fun
[00:17:51] because there was some really great action.
[00:17:53] Yeah.
[00:17:54] I would have liked to have seen some of that in
[00:17:56] the goriness that Matthew Vaughn has done before.
[00:17:59] I did think that as well but also I feel like
[00:18:02] it's, I know this is a different story.
[00:18:04] This is a different world.
[00:18:05] I mean it's a similar world but like, you know.
[00:18:07] I think it also might have detracted away
[00:18:09] from the core of the movie
[00:18:11] that really unfolds in the second half.
[00:18:13] Which this isn't going to spoil anything
[00:18:15] but there's a big romance plot
[00:18:17] that starts to unfold in the second half
[00:18:19] that is not shown at all
[00:18:21] in any of the marketing or anything like that.
[00:18:23] And because I think that he wanted to
[00:18:25] lean into that and keep it romantic
[00:18:27] he probably didn't want to make,
[00:18:29] like lean too hard into the R-rated nature of it
[00:18:31] which is why they probably kept it the way they did.
[00:18:33] Also it just makes it.
[00:18:34] Because it is almost a romance story.
[00:18:35] And it makes it more marketable.
[00:18:36] It becomes that way.
[00:18:37] If it's PG-13 it's more marketable.
[00:18:38] Audience score of 71%.
[00:18:40] What do you think of the Rotten Tomatoes score?
[00:18:42] Oh the Rotten Tomatoes score is like 32%.
[00:18:44] 34%.
[00:18:45] Oh, that's too low.
[00:18:46] Yeah, it got hit pretty hard by critics.
[00:18:48] And I disagree because I do think
[00:18:50] there's a lot of fun to be had.
[00:18:51] Is it because they flew you to Britain?
[00:18:53] No not at all.
[00:18:54] Because for a while I was like...
[00:18:56] They didn't fly you to Britain.
[00:18:58] No but I get why...
[00:18:59] You said no.
[00:19:00] No but I know...
[00:19:01] You said no like they flew you to fucking Britain.
[00:19:03] No, that's not why.
[00:19:04] We know.
[00:19:05] Brad and I know.
[00:19:06] What?
[00:19:07] I don't...
[00:19:08] Wait is that why you could...
[00:19:09] You invite one person and he invited me, alright?
[00:19:11] You said that you were sick.
[00:19:13] And that's why we couldn't hang out.
[00:19:15] Well he was sick of you.
[00:19:16] Too shy.
[00:19:17] Too shy brah-brah.
[00:19:19] Bro, govna.
[00:19:20] But no, Matthew Vaughn I think is someone...
[00:19:24] People either like him or like you hate him.
[00:19:27] He's an M-night Shyamalan.
[00:19:28] I like him.
[00:19:29] I mostly like him.
[00:19:30] I didn't like the Golden Circle as much as the first Kingsman.
[00:19:33] The Kingsman is fucking bonkers.
[00:19:35] I did not see that.
[00:19:37] It was the first half an hour of that actually.
[00:19:39] I just started it last night.
[00:19:40] It's very odd.
[00:19:41] So far it's just like it's in the build up stage.
[00:19:43] Yeah.
[00:19:44] But and I initially one of the things I thought too was that I almost wish that he would have...
[00:19:48] Kingsman is one of my favorite action films by the way.
[00:19:51] The original Kingsman?
[00:19:52] Yeah.
[00:19:53] Oh interesting.
[00:19:54] It's really good.
[00:19:55] Favorite?
[00:19:56] One of my favorite action films ever.
[00:19:58] I love it.
[00:19:59] We're going to have to make sure...
[00:20:00] We're going to have to show more action films.
[00:20:02] It's gory and it's...
[00:20:03] Not that Kingsman is bad but...
[00:20:04] No, no, no.
[00:20:05] It's gory.
[00:20:06] It's fun.
[00:20:07] It is...
[00:20:08] I don't know why you like gory actions since you don't like gore otherwise.
[00:20:11] Well I don't like horror gore.
[00:20:12] I don't like gore porn.
[00:20:14] Gore.
[00:20:15] Gore.
[00:20:16] We got to get introduced with some more action films.
[00:20:18] Yeah.
[00:20:19] So there's a lot of action films.
[00:20:20] The second half...
[00:20:21] You said that but then you said that.
[00:20:23] You said that.
[00:20:24] Hold on.
[00:20:25] You know what?
[00:20:26] You said out loud.
[00:20:27] Kingsman is one of my favorite action films of all time.
[00:20:30] It's...
[00:20:31] Oh I understand of all time but it's one of my favorite.
[00:20:32] You just said it implies all time.
[00:20:33] Because if you say it's one of my favorite, it implies all time.
[00:20:36] Exactly.
[00:20:37] That being said...
[00:20:38] I'm just saying I didn't say that.
[00:20:39] It can't be.
[00:20:40] It is one of my favorite.
[00:20:41] Stop chewing on the mic.
[00:20:42] What?
[00:20:43] That can't be true.
[00:20:44] It means that you...
[00:20:45] You and I are having a bit here.
[00:20:46] Let him eat.
[00:20:47] You have a very small set of dinner.
[00:20:50] Yeah but I'm not going to be lectured by somebody that puts Jean-Claude Van Damme
[00:20:56] on his Mount Rushmore of great actors.
[00:20:59] I will not be lectured by somebody that loves...
[00:21:02] You leave sudden death, Lionheart, Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Cyborg out of this conversation.
[00:21:09] A quest underrated.
[00:21:11] Okay?
[00:21:12] A Universal Soldier?
[00:21:13] Fine.
[00:21:14] Universal Soldier Returns?
[00:21:15] Okay.
[00:21:16] That legitimately thinks Arnold Schwarzenegger is a good actor.
[00:21:20] He is.
[00:21:21] Okay.
[00:21:22] He can be.
[00:21:23] Initially, I thought that I would have preferred that the style of the second half would have
[00:21:29] been what the whole movie was but the more I thought about it, the gradual build-up is
[00:21:34] what makes the second half I think work better.
[00:21:35] So even though I don't like the first half as much as the second half, they do kind of
[00:21:39] like feed into each other in that way.
[00:21:41] Sam Rockwell's pretty great in this.
[00:21:43] Sam Rockwell and Bryce Stiles Howard are both great.
[00:21:45] They have a fantastic unlikely duo.
[00:21:47] They have great chemistry and yeah, they're both really good in this.
[00:21:51] Is this better than The Lost City?
[00:21:55] There are aspects of it that are more entertaining than The Lost City.
[00:21:58] When you brought up the romance thing is what I'm thinking.
[00:22:00] Yeah, there are aspects of it that I would say it's a better action movie than The
[00:22:04] Lost City.
[00:22:05] Sure.
[00:22:06] Sure.
[00:22:07] Because The Lost City is a rom-com with action elements.
[00:22:09] I like that.
[00:22:11] She's just a great movie.
[00:22:12] I really like The Lost City.
[00:22:13] Yeah, it's pretty good.
[00:22:14] Yeah.
[00:22:15] I'd have to re-watch The Lost City to really like-
[00:22:17] No, honestly like of all of it really reminded me of like a romance in the stone.
[00:22:22] Yeah.
[00:22:23] That's kind of what this is but with like Kingsman's Fire basically.
[00:22:26] Sure, sure.
[00:22:27] No, I mean I like that Matthew Vaughn does his own thing.
[00:22:30] He definitely is as a stand-up comedian has a voice and a director has a voice.
[00:22:35] Matthew Vaughn has found his.
[00:22:37] You know Matthew Vaughn movie.
[00:22:38] But that being said, he also did what didn't he do like Eddie the Eagle?
[00:22:41] No, he produced Eddie the Eagle.
[00:22:42] Oh sorry, sorry, sorry.
[00:22:43] Okay, well fuck me.
[00:22:44] Yeah.
[00:22:46] So yeah, that was the show.
[00:22:49] That was we said we were going to talk about every movie we saw.
[00:22:52] We only had time for one.
[00:22:54] So what trailers do you guys want to talk about?
[00:22:55] Fuck you.
[00:22:56] I mean you guys only did half an hour there.
[00:22:57] What movies did you watch Grandpa?
[00:22:58] No, I mean keep going.
[00:23:00] You started-
[00:23:01] You did start.
[00:23:02] So what movies did you watch, Brad?
[00:23:03] I watched just a few Sundance movies virtually because I didn't really have much time because
[00:23:07] I got sick and-
[00:23:09] Sundance has a special role in your heart doesn't it?
[00:23:11] It really does.
[00:23:12] I met my fiance, Brittany.
[00:23:14] And that's just where my love for film and my love for Brittany blossomed all over.
[00:23:18] The two great loves of your life?
[00:23:19] Two great loves of my life.
[00:23:20] Well, two of the three great loves of your life, me, Brittany and Sundance.
[00:23:23] Yeah.
[00:23:24] I just shit myself.
[00:23:25] I'm not surprised.
[00:23:27] So yeah, so the three that I watched about Quikka mentioned, I watched a movie called
[00:23:32] Thelma which stars June Squibb who- did you guys ever see Nebraska?
[00:23:37] I did and she's not a young- young-in.
[00:23:39] She's not.
[00:23:40] She's not a young-in.
[00:23:41] She's an old lady and she's a wonderful actress.
[00:23:43] In this movie-
[00:23:44] Nebraska was Will Forte and Bruce Dern.
[00:23:46] Correct.
[00:23:47] So in the movie, she plays this woman Thelma.
[00:23:49] She's not getting around too well.
[00:23:50] She's a widow and she- you know, she's not too great on the computer but she got
[00:23:55] a grandson who comes around and helps her.
[00:23:57] And so all of a sudden, she gets a call from what she thinks is her grandson Panic.
[00:24:03] He's like, oh my gosh, I'm in- I'm in the police station.
[00:24:05] Like they told me, you know, like I did this or whatever.
[00:24:08] And it's like- it's a scam.
[00:24:10] And so they tell her that like she- like you have to send me the money to bail me out.
[00:24:15] That happened to my grandfather.
[00:24:16] Did it really?
[00:24:17] It really did.
[00:24:18] Yeah.
[00:24:19] Apparently that happens a lot.
[00:24:20] The scammer called him and said, grandpa I need money.
[00:24:24] Yeah.
[00:24:25] And he said, who is this?
[00:24:26] Is this Chip?
[00:24:27] Yeah, exactly.
[00:24:28] This is my cousin.
[00:24:29] He said, yeah, this is Chip.
[00:24:30] I'm stuck in Canada and my grandfather sent him $5,000.
[00:24:33] Yep.
[00:24:34] And so that's what happens to this woman Thelma.
[00:24:35] She sends $10,000 to try and help her grandson.
[00:24:39] And turns out to be a scam.
[00:24:41] But Thelma, she's kind of upset about it.
[00:24:44] She can't stop thinking about it.
[00:24:45] And so she decides to try to track down who the people are, who does it.
[00:24:50] But she's this adorable old woman.
[00:24:53] She's not- it's not like this is like a John Wick old woman either.
[00:24:56] Like if you've seen June Squibb, she's an adorable chubby old lady.
[00:25:00] And she's- She's 94 by the way.
[00:25:02] And she decides she's going to go out and track these people down.
[00:25:06] So like she tricks her grandson into taking her somewhere so she can talk to one of her
[00:25:11] friends and borrow his scooter and drive across town.
[00:25:15] And so it's framed not in a parody way, but cut in a way where to make it feel like it's
[00:25:20] a little bit of an action thriller kind of movie.
[00:25:23] But it's very charming.
[00:25:25] It's very well put together.
[00:25:26] It's very well written and funny.
[00:25:29] There are little nods to Mission Impossible and stuff in it.
[00:25:33] But it was- It's very enjoyable.
[00:25:34] I liked it a lot.
[00:25:35] June Squibb is one of those actresses as well that didn't really become payments until like
[00:25:40] her 70s.
[00:25:41] Yeah, like she wasn't big in Hollywood.
[00:25:43] I think she did a couple things.
[00:25:44] Yeah.
[00:25:45] Like nothing major.
[00:25:46] But she's 94?
[00:25:47] Yeah.
[00:25:48] But it's won an Academy Award now.
[00:25:50] No, but what I'm saying is like when you cast this movie and you cast her in it,
[00:25:54] like you better have a three day shooting change.
[00:25:57] Like I mean I'm kind of not joking.
[00:25:59] Like if you're 94, this isn't- this can't be a six month shoot because-
[00:26:03] No, no, I mean it's an indie movie too.
[00:26:06] They can easily replace you, right?
[00:26:08] Yeah.
[00:26:09] You agreed!
[00:26:10] But yeah, it's a very charming movie.
[00:26:14] It should come out later this year.
[00:26:16] It's a lot of fun.
[00:26:17] I also saw a movie called A Real Pain which is written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg.
[00:26:22] He also stars in the movie along with Kieran Culkin.
[00:26:24] They play two cousins who decide to go visit Poland after their grandmother has passed
[00:26:29] away.
[00:26:30] Culkin's character here is kind of like an aloof eccentric.
[00:26:36] Sometimes a jerk, a little rough around the edges.
[00:26:38] And Jesse Eisenberg has a family and stuff like that.
[00:26:40] And so they decide to take this trip together because their grandmother left them money
[00:26:43] to go visit her home and stuff like that when she died.
[00:26:47] And so it's just like the dynamic between them is really interesting to watch them
[00:26:50] play off each other and watch their characters evolve.
[00:26:53] It's a very touching movie as well.
[00:26:55] It's funny.
[00:26:56] But yeah, very much a Jesse Eisenberg movie.
[00:27:00] He has some flares of the cleverness of Woody Allen's writing in a way.
[00:27:06] But there's like a little more...
[00:27:07] Because he's jacked me with Jesse Eisenberg.
[00:27:09] Yeah, but there's a little more I guess dramatic edge to it in a way without being pretentious
[00:27:16] or overly dramatic.
[00:27:19] But it was also a very good movie.
[00:27:20] Kieran Culkin is especially great in it.
[00:27:23] And I'm really glad to see that he later on in life.
[00:27:27] Because obviously you grew up in your big brother shadow who is at the time in the 90s,
[00:27:31] the biggest star in the world, hosted Saturday Night Live when he was 12 or whatever it was
[00:27:36] 10.
[00:27:37] And so Kieran Culkin now with succession and with more movie roles.
[00:27:40] Good for him.
[00:27:41] Like that he's finally...
[00:27:42] And actually he does it Saturday Night Live.
[00:27:43] And he's so good in succession too.
[00:27:44] Oh God, he's amazing.
[00:27:45] Me and Brittany are on season three of that show and he's just so fucking good.
[00:27:48] So actually I want to ask you that.
[00:27:49] I'm through like the fifth episode of the first season.
[00:27:52] I read ahead and I didn't get any spoilers, but the memes are like season six.
[00:27:58] Nobody succeeding?
[00:27:59] Like does it ever get better?
[00:28:01] Well there's only four seasons.
[00:28:02] So...
[00:28:03] The joke was like it's the fourth season nobody succeeding the company.
[00:28:06] Like Brian Cox is still in control after four years.
[00:28:08] No, so I mean in season three like that, that's kind of the whole thing is like
[00:28:12] there's no real clear indication of how much time passes in the show necessarily.
[00:28:17] So it's not like this is going on for years.
[00:28:19] It seems like it's all happening in pretty quick succession.
[00:28:21] I did the thing where now we're talking about a TV show.
[00:28:23] So we're going to move on.
[00:28:24] But there's a lot of scheming and like betraying...
[00:28:26] I said we're moving on.
[00:28:27] ...and stuff between the family.
[00:28:28] And then the other movie I watched is called Skywalkers A Love Story, which is a documentary
[00:28:33] about these two Russian rooftop walkers kind of daredevils who...
[00:28:39] Really had me go in there.
[00:28:40] I thought for sure you're gonna fucking Star Wars nerd.
[00:28:43] They're these people out there who they're thrill seekers.
[00:28:49] They're kind of influencers too.
[00:28:51] They sneak onto like skyscraper rooftops and like places they're not supposed to be and
[00:28:56] take these incredible pictures hanging off the sides of buildings, climbing cranes on
[00:29:01] skyscrapers that are in construction.
[00:29:04] They post these incredible pictures on Instagram.
[00:29:07] There's these two Russian rooftop walkers.
[00:29:09] One is a man, one is a woman.
[00:29:11] Angela Nicola.
[00:29:12] Yeah.
[00:29:13] And women are a rarity in this hobby.
[00:29:16] But she joined and she met one of the more famous Russian dudes who was doing this.
[00:29:21] He asked her if she wanted to do like a sponsored thing with him.
[00:29:26] She did.
[00:29:27] They fell in love, became a couple.
[00:29:30] And so it kind of follows like their relationship and their kind of rise in fame and like
[00:29:33] what is this underground sport essentially.
[00:29:36] And then like...
[00:29:37] But the way that it unfolds is basically like a heist movie because what it follows
[00:29:43] is them deciding to basically do like one last big thing.
[00:29:47] COVID happens and they're trying to make these like NFTs with the photos that they shoot there
[00:29:51] to try and make some money because they can't do anything else for a little while.
[00:29:55] And so they decide that they're going...
[00:29:56] One of the last buildings of its kind, like for a while that will be built is this
[00:30:02] skyscraper in Malaysia called Merdeka.
[00:30:05] It is a massive huge fucking building.
[00:30:09] They only have a limited window in which they could actually sneak in, get to the very top
[00:30:14] and do one of these photos.
[00:30:16] And they'll be the first people to do it.
[00:30:18] And so the documentary follows them trying to figure out how to do it and like practicing
[00:30:22] and all that and following them actually trying to execute getting into the building
[00:30:26] and everything.
[00:30:27] And so there's a lot of genuine suspense and thrills and like complications between
[00:30:32] them as a couple and stuff like that.
[00:30:33] So like there's charm because of the real love story.
[00:30:36] There's excitement because of what they do.
[00:30:38] And they get some unbelievable shots.
[00:30:41] Just the way that you see them on top of these buildings and everything, it looks
[00:30:45] gorgeous, some incredible cinematography.
[00:30:47] But yeah, great.
[00:30:48] Really solid documentary.
[00:30:49] You liked it a lot.
[00:30:50] All right.
[00:30:51] So again this has been GoFlixt yourself.
[00:30:54] We talked about Brass movies, Nate.
[00:30:55] You can't make the same joke over and over again.
[00:30:57] Yeah I can because we just said you go really quickly and then you spent 15
[00:31:01] minutes talking about three movies.
[00:31:02] I'm sorry the movies I saw were good and that you just watched, I don't know,
[00:31:04] Alien vs. Predator Requiem again.
[00:31:05] No I just, I've got a couple of them talking about what it's not going to be doing.
[00:31:09] All right.
[00:31:10] Hey, Ben, what did you see?
[00:31:11] Predator.
[00:31:14] Was that your sick movie?
[00:31:15] I watched, no I watched Predator every year after we do inappropriate
[00:31:19] trivia for, it's a big event in town that we raise a bunch of money for charity.
[00:31:23] It's a big deal.
[00:31:24] You guys did a great job.
[00:31:25] No honestly, we raised $16,600 for charity and it's the biggest event
[00:31:30] of the year for me.
[00:31:31] It's exhausting to put on.
[00:31:33] It's just, it's a lot.
[00:31:34] So then on Sunday I always just sit in the dark and just drink and watch a movie.
[00:31:39] And so of course it's always Predator, so I watched Predator and it was awesome.
[00:31:43] First time seeing it what'd you think?
[00:31:45] It could have been better.
[00:31:46] RIP Carl Weathers.
[00:31:48] Yeah.
[00:31:49] It was a little bit more poignant honestly this time because I remember
[00:31:52] a few of the scenes in that movie and for those of you maybe that don't know
[00:31:55] Predator is my favorite movie of all time.
[00:31:58] Carl Weathers is pitch perfect in this movie.
[00:32:00] He is phenomenal.
[00:32:03] There's a scene where Arnold Schwarzenegger confronts Carl Weathers character
[00:32:08] and he says you set us up.
[00:32:10] You dropped the six of us, you made up a backstory.
[00:32:12] You dropped the six of us in the meat grinder and it's this Carl Weathers
[00:32:16] characters in the CIA.
[00:32:18] You gotta remember this is an 80s macho bro fest.
[00:32:22] It doesn't, there's nothing about this that should be nuanced at all.
[00:32:25] But Carl Weathers has that literal watery tears in his eyes look like
[00:32:30] this is the most dramatic thing that he could ever do.
[00:32:32] So he just was all in and he tells Arnold Schwarzenegger you're an expendable asset
[00:32:37] and the way that he performs that scene with the tears in his eyes almost
[00:32:41] it's like I'm losing a good friend and I'm gonna but I need to tell him
[00:32:45] like fuck you this is how it is.
[00:32:47] He's he was an incredible actor.
[00:32:49] Yeah, he really was.
[00:32:50] What do you think is his better role that or Apollo Creed?
[00:32:53] I mean Apollo Creed is like the most iconic thing I can think of
[00:32:56] for Carl Weathers.
[00:32:57] Nope.
[00:32:58] It is.
[00:33:00] No, I mean it is the most indelible mark on cinema he's made.
[00:33:05] But but he's done so much more obviously than that.
[00:33:10] It is combat Carl from Toy Story 3.
[00:33:13] I mean playing himself on the rest of the element.
[00:33:15] No, it's great and then of course his turn on the Mandalorian is great
[00:33:18] but the thing that made him maybe turned to comedy later on like they
[00:33:24] they were all in on him after Apollo Creed.
[00:33:26] So he started this movie called Action Jackson.
[00:33:28] It didn't do all that well.
[00:33:29] It didn't take off like it should have.
[00:33:31] Maybe they were trying to say could this be the action version of like Eddie Murphy
[00:33:35] or something like that.
[00:33:36] It was late 80s.
[00:33:37] It didn't work.
[00:33:38] So then maybe he had to kind of retool his career.
[00:33:41] It maybe led him to making choices like Happy Gilmore and things down the road.
[00:33:45] He was really brilliant on all aspects.
[00:33:48] He could do drama, action and comedy.
[00:33:51] It was just you don't really see that anymore.
[00:33:54] It's a triple threat.
[00:33:55] His delivery in Happy Gilmore when he's talking about, he's like,
[00:33:59] Mom wouldn't let me play on the Pro Tour anymore.
[00:34:00] And he's like, I'm sorry.
[00:34:01] And because you're black, he's like, hell no.
[00:34:03] Damn alligator, bit my hand off.
[00:34:06] Like honestly his choices in those and then again playing himself
[00:34:10] in the rest of development.
[00:34:12] I haven't laughed harder.
[00:34:13] I mean he's so funny.
[00:34:14] So what's cool about rest development and to his credit Carl Weathers
[00:34:18] being you know who he is.
[00:34:20] Mitch Hurwitz told a story about how originally their idea was when
[00:34:23] they wanted to bring Carl Weathers in.
[00:34:24] He envisioned doing like a parody of the beach scene with him running
[00:34:29] on the beach with David Cross as Tobias and everything like that.
[00:34:33] And so when he met with Carl Weathers and told him, he's like,
[00:34:35] Hey we want I wanted to see if you'd be interested in doing a role in here.
[00:34:37] He's like, yeah, he's like, it's not going to be just like a bunch of
[00:34:40] rocky jokes though, isn't it?
[00:34:41] Of course Mitch means like no.
[00:34:44] No, of course not at all.
[00:34:46] Yeah, he's like, we wouldn't want to do that.
[00:34:47] He's like, and Carl Weathers himself is like, you know what I would
[00:34:49] really like he's like playing myself.
[00:34:50] He's like, I'd like to be like a really cheap.
[00:34:53] Like a really frugal person.
[00:34:54] Yeah, exactly.
[00:34:55] Like always saving money and cutting corners and like trying to make
[00:34:58] the most out of it.
[00:34:59] And so like that brilliance of that came from Carl Weathers.
[00:35:02] Which again, if you come to a creator of a show and you say hi,
[00:35:08] I'm very famous for other things.
[00:35:11] What I want to be known as now is a version of myself that's bad.
[00:35:15] Yeah.
[00:35:16] That takes a real putting your ego to the side.
[00:35:19] Yeah.
[00:35:20] You know, I love that.
[00:35:21] So yeah, no, that was great.
[00:35:22] But no, I watched Predator, watched Predator 2 as well because I
[00:35:25] was a little drunk.
[00:35:26] Not as good but Danny Glover's pretty great.
[00:35:28] But no, I watched The Beekeeper.
[00:35:30] Oh nice.
[00:35:31] What did you think?
[00:35:32] I watched it twice.
[00:35:33] Oh yeah.
[00:35:35] Yeah.
[00:35:36] It's more audacious plot wise than you could ever imagine.
[00:35:42] And you were there for it?
[00:35:43] It's also worse than people are leaning on it.
[00:35:46] It's got like a 70.
[00:35:47] Yeah.
[00:35:48] It's fun though.
[00:35:49] No, no.
[00:35:50] And again, I do not want to say.
[00:35:52] You watched it twice.
[00:35:53] I watched it twice for a reason.
[00:35:54] He was on COVID.
[00:35:56] The dialogue and the writing is the worst part.
[00:36:01] I just wish they would have given a good writer a chance
[00:36:05] to really write some clever shit or whatever.
[00:36:08] It's just so rote.
[00:36:09] It really does take it out of the-
[00:36:11] Let me ask you about one.
[00:36:12] Let me see.
[00:36:13] I'm sorry.
[00:36:14] That's staying.
[00:36:16] That would be great.
[00:36:17] No.
[00:36:18] God damn it.
[00:36:19] No, but they make so many hive protect the queen.
[00:36:25] Like they just really go all in.
[00:36:27] Of course.
[00:36:28] And it's just so stupid.
[00:36:30] It's so over the top because it's not even him doing it.
[00:36:33] It's everyone around him.
[00:36:34] Oh that's worse.
[00:36:35] Why wouldn't you give Statham those lines?
[00:36:37] Do you know what a beekeeper does?
[00:36:39] And it's not Statham.
[00:36:40] It's like some other British guy.
[00:36:41] He protects the cow.
[00:36:43] Sometimes they have to kill the queen to make sure.
[00:36:45] What are you doing?
[00:36:46] This is so stupid.
[00:36:47] But the action, oh but let me tell you right now.
[00:36:50] And then I'm not going to spoil shit.
[00:36:53] This will not- you know what honey does this spoil?
[00:36:55] I'm not going to spoil this movie.
[00:36:57] Okay.
[00:36:58] But I'll tell you.
[00:36:59] The audacity of the plot twists in this film is fucking nuts.
[00:37:07] Like that's why I watched it again.
[00:37:09] Because I was like let me see early on if I can tell that these people turn or whatever.
[00:37:14] Do whatever they do.
[00:37:15] And it's like they hide it pretty fucking well.
[00:37:17] Like it's pretty good.
[00:37:18] So overall love the action.
[00:37:21] Obviously terrible writing.
[00:37:23] Super fun.
[00:37:24] Okay.
[00:37:25] Are you excited about beekeeper 2?
[00:37:26] Oh there will be probably 2, 3 and 4.
[00:37:29] It's a beekeeper 2 hornet's nest.
[00:37:32] I think this film- I don't know what it costs to make but I think it's like
[00:37:35] like $125 million already.
[00:37:38] But honestly so your movie Thelma.
[00:37:43] It's the same plot except Jason Statham finds out that somebody got scammed and just decides
[00:37:51] to you know keep the bees off.
[00:37:53] So instead of June Scribb-
[00:37:54] Yeah Jason Statham.
[00:37:56] So it's great.
[00:37:57] Who do you think will win in a fight?
[00:37:59] June Scribb.
[00:38:00] 100%.
[00:38:01] I also watched The Holdovers.
[00:38:05] Hell yeah.
[00:38:06] What'd you think?
[00:38:07] I loved it.
[00:38:08] I think the Academy Awards have been announced.
[00:38:11] Paul Geo Monte did not get nominated.
[00:38:12] No he got nominated.
[00:38:13] For this?
[00:38:14] Yeah.
[00:38:15] Okay good.
[00:38:16] I don't think it will win but it would be a travesty.
[00:38:18] No no it just- he needs that nomination.
[00:38:20] He's fucking- the whole movie-
[00:38:22] It's a master class.
[00:38:23] It's so well- I was going to say it's so well casted and then the cast- they don't
[00:38:28] have- it's a very threadbare plot honestly.
[00:38:31] There's not a lot of like meat to chew into but so you have to take these scenes
[00:38:35] that are just these long drawn out moments and make them something-
[00:38:38] What's all about the characters?
[00:38:39] Exactly it's a whole character study.
[00:38:42] But as Brad had previously said, yeah it's worth your time.
[00:38:46] It's no matter what mood you're in you can sit down and watch this and it will- it
[00:38:50] will make you feel something.
[00:38:51] It'll make you feel good, bad.
[00:38:53] There are definitely some very depressing things about it but overall this is a
[00:38:58] story of just people finding each other and whatever that means.
[00:39:03] And I really love that it's not what you think it's going to be because it's
[00:39:07] not dead poet society.
[00:39:08] It's not, you know, with honors.
[00:39:11] It doesn't even have that much of a plot.
[00:39:13] No it doesn't.
[00:39:14] Yeah there's no plot.
[00:39:15] It veers away from like what could have easily been the cheesiness of a story
[00:39:19] like this and it all feels very authentic and genuine.
[00:39:22] And normally-
[00:39:23] And that's coming from somebody who loves dead poet society and with honors.
[00:39:27] Well again those are different movies.
[00:39:29] They're great movies.
[00:39:31] What's the movie that I shit all over that didn't have a plot?
[00:39:35] It's the pizza movie?
[00:39:37] Oh.
[00:39:38] The Licorice Pizza?
[00:39:39] Oh yeah.
[00:39:40] I just said there's nothing to do here.
[00:39:41] Like I hate this movie.
[00:39:42] When I saw that movie originally I fucking hated it because there was no
[00:39:46] linear progression, there was no plot.
[00:39:48] The whole of it does have a bit of a plot at least.
[00:39:50] It's not just an actress free for all plot.
[00:39:52] That's not just a-
[00:39:53] It is mainly about letting the actors explore the characters and it's
[00:39:57] super well done.
[00:39:58] I feel like you're in a bad place when you watch Licorice Pizza.
[00:40:00] No it's not great.
[00:40:01] I watched it as well.
[00:40:02] It's not great.
[00:40:03] I don't trust your opinion.
[00:40:04] That's fine.
[00:40:05] So then I watched it.
[00:40:06] Wait you trust his?
[00:40:08] Now I do.
[00:40:09] I watch Ferrari.
[00:40:10] It goes back and forth whenever when he pisses me off.
[00:40:12] I watch Ferrari.
[00:40:13] Oh how was it?
[00:40:14] Yeah see that's what I've heard.
[00:40:16] Is Adam Driver good?
[00:40:17] Yes and here's the thing.
[00:40:19] Because he loves this film and he talks-
[00:40:21] And he loves Italians.
[00:40:22] Well he's so used in two-
[00:40:24] I know that's a smart conversation.
[00:40:27] So Adam Driver can't save this movie.
[00:40:32] Penelope Cruz can't save this movie.
[00:40:34] They are fucking brilliant.
[00:40:36] Like Penelope Cruz especially.
[00:40:38] Yeah.
[00:40:39] She is and honestly watch this movie just for Penelope Cruz's
[00:40:43] characterization of Ferrari's wife.
[00:40:46] She's-
[00:40:47] Herari.
[00:40:48] Herari.
[00:40:49] Watch it for Herari.
[00:40:51] She's fantastic.
[00:40:52] And I'll say this.
[00:40:53] I don't think she's ugly.
[00:40:55] Does she make your engine room?
[00:40:58] Anyway, she's great.
[00:41:00] He's great.
[00:41:01] The acting is very well done.
[00:41:03] I don't know.
[00:41:05] You don't like how the direction is?
[00:41:07] So it reminds me a little bit of like what Black Hat-
[00:41:12] Maybe like Black Hat is a good example of like,
[00:41:15] wow this is a Michael Mann film.
[00:41:17] It's not very good.
[00:41:18] It's better than Black Hat for sure.
[00:41:20] But it's not the fault of the people in Black Hat
[00:41:23] or even the action in Black Hat or whatever.
[00:41:25] It's the fault of the director for making choices.
[00:41:27] Yeah.
[00:41:28] And this is not a spoiler at all because it happens within the
[00:41:31] first 30 seconds of the film.
[00:41:33] In the first 30 seconds of the film,
[00:41:35] they show Enzo Ferrari driving an old timey car.
[00:41:39] And it's Adam Driver as Enzo Ferrari.
[00:41:42] It is such poor CGI.
[00:41:45] I've heard the crash yet.
[00:41:46] That he is just-
[00:41:48] No, but even when they show him,
[00:41:49] it looks like a parody movie.
[00:41:52] It looks like they clearly shot him on a green screen
[00:41:56] and he's buzzing around.
[00:41:58] And there's real imagery behind him from real footage
[00:42:01] and he doesn't fit in at all.
[00:42:03] It doesn't look old enough.
[00:42:04] It's just not well matched, color matched at all.
[00:42:06] So they didn't spend the money.
[00:42:08] And that's your opening scene though.
[00:42:09] So from then I'm like,
[00:42:11] I'm now trepidation about the rest of this film
[00:42:13] because of this opening scene.
[00:42:14] It does a good job later on of like
[00:42:17] the character story, the development.
[00:42:19] You know, it really gets into it.
[00:42:20] There are some great, especially anytime
[00:42:23] that Driver and Cruz are on set,
[00:42:26] seen together, in-scene together.
[00:42:28] I couldn't stop watching.
[00:42:30] They are so good at hating each other,
[00:42:32] loving each other.
[00:42:33] So passionately Italian let's say.
[00:42:35] It's awesome.
[00:42:37] Outside of that, it's hard to just keep it going
[00:42:41] and the rivalry with Maserati isn't really a thing
[00:42:46] and everything else kind of just falls away
[00:42:51] and it's kind of a muddled mess.
[00:42:53] The performances probably give the thing
[00:42:55] more legs than it should have.
[00:42:57] Did you see the clip that went viral from a Q&A
[00:43:00] with Adam Driver at a Ferrari screening?
[00:43:02] Were they totally, like what he said, you're ugly?
[00:43:04] No, no, somebody asked him,
[00:43:06] what would you say to somebody who likes the movie
[00:43:09] but found the visual effects
[00:43:12] to kind of take you out of it
[00:43:14] and look kind of silly.
[00:43:16] Cartoonish.
[00:43:17] Yeah, and Adam Driver, he just goes,
[00:43:19] I don't know, fuck you, I guess?
[00:43:21] Yeah, yeah, what would you say to somebody?
[00:43:23] If you said this to me for real, fuck you?
[00:43:25] That's a real thing.
[00:43:26] That's yes ending, right?
[00:43:28] He's so good at it.
[00:43:29] No, good for him.
[00:43:30] But that person is not wrong.
[00:43:32] Yeah.
[00:43:33] And it's just that when you're, again,
[00:43:36] when you're fucking starting a movie,
[00:43:37] don't start it like that.
[00:43:38] Either spend more money
[00:43:39] or don't start the movie like that.
[00:43:41] How old is Michael Mann?
[00:43:42] Is he 80?
[00:43:43] 80, yeah.
[00:43:44] So that just shows me that much like,
[00:43:46] maybe Clint Eastwood or even a Ridley Scott where
[00:43:49] you're not spending the time
[00:43:51] that you're going to be spending
[00:43:53] on the things you've been spending on.
[00:43:54] Oh, that's all.
[00:43:55] So let's talk about a couple of Michael Mann films
[00:43:58] since 2000.
[00:43:59] So where would you rank this?
[00:44:01] Would you say this is better than Ali?
[00:44:03] I didn't see Ali actually.
[00:44:05] Did you see Ali?
[00:44:07] I haven't seen Ali yet.
[00:44:08] Holy shit, we both have not seen Ali.
[00:44:10] I know, I did.
[00:44:11] That's actually a pretty big glaring.
[00:44:12] Yeah, I'm going to sign that for one of you guys.
[00:44:14] What about Collateral?
[00:44:15] Did you guys see that one?
[00:44:16] Love Collateral.
[00:44:17] Love Collateral.
[00:44:18] Collateral is a better film.
[00:44:19] By far.
[00:44:20] Well, no, sorry, sorry.
[00:44:21] Collateral is a better film.
[00:44:22] Miami Vice.
[00:44:24] I need to re-watch Miami Vice because some people
[00:44:26] really like it.
[00:44:27] I didn't get it at the time.
[00:44:28] Maybe I'll join again.
[00:44:30] 100% agree with you.
[00:44:31] So Miami Vice is Heat Light.
[00:44:35] Okay.
[00:44:36] So Michael Mann's...
[00:44:37] Warm.
[00:44:38] You know what?
[00:44:39] You remember Warm by Michael Mann?
[00:44:41] Oh no, sorry.
[00:44:42] Miami Vice.
[00:44:43] You're not wrong.
[00:44:44] Heat is his opus.
[00:44:45] That is the thing that people will remember
[00:44:46] Michael.
[00:44:47] The best film he's done.
[00:44:48] The best film he's done.
[00:44:49] Yeah.
[00:44:50] It's perfect.
[00:44:51] You know why?
[00:44:52] It's got a great ass!
[00:44:54] So it's perfectly cast.
[00:44:56] Wait, is Heat better than the last of Moheakens?
[00:44:59] So they're different movies.
[00:45:00] Yeah, they're very different movies.
[00:45:01] But you said it's magnum opus.
[00:45:02] Well, Moheakens put them on the map.
[00:45:04] Heat established a mess.
[00:45:06] I mean, they're both films for Manzoo.
[00:45:07] That's what Moheakens is very good.
[00:45:09] Heat is operating on another level though.
[00:45:11] It just is.
[00:45:12] The shootout scene in Heat should be...
[00:45:15] It is studied in film classes as...
[00:45:17] Have you ever seen Heat?
[00:45:18] Yeah, I've seen it.
[00:45:19] Okay.
[00:45:20] That...
[00:45:21] He was the first one honestly to incorporate real sound.
[00:45:25] Real...
[00:45:26] Yeah, the sound in that movie is incredible.
[00:45:28] If you get the chance ever, anybody listening
[00:45:31] to see Heat in a theater, holy shit, good for you.
[00:45:34] The surround sound?
[00:45:35] If you get a chance, humble bread to see Heat
[00:45:39] in an Academy sanctioned theater where there's a Q&A
[00:45:43] hosted by Christopher Nolan, where Al Pacino
[00:45:46] and Robert De Niro and Val Kilmer
[00:45:48] and most of the cast are all in attendance.
[00:45:51] Do that.
[00:45:52] Do that.
[00:45:53] They also can't be now but...
[00:45:56] The cast of...
[00:45:57] Val Kilmer couldn't talk.
[00:45:58] He couldn't talk then either.
[00:46:00] Oh, shit.
[00:46:01] That was kind of when it just started coming out that he...
[00:46:04] Just pulled up two cards or whatever?
[00:46:05] Yes and no only.
[00:46:06] Actually, at that point I think he did say a few things
[00:46:09] but it was very difficult to understand him
[00:46:11] and you could tell something was wrong.
[00:46:13] The cast of Heat is just...
[00:46:15] I'm looking at it right now.
[00:46:16] It's just ridiculous.
[00:46:17] Insane.
[00:46:18] At the time I do remember because I was like 15, 14 at the time.
[00:46:22] It was like De Niro, Pacino finally.
[00:46:25] The godfather did it a little bit.
[00:46:27] And De was crazy as hell but I loved Tom Saiz wanted to roll.
[00:46:31] Oh, absolutely.
[00:46:32] And so Val Kilmer was perfect in this.
[00:46:37] And so anyway, that's what I consider to be his best film.
[00:46:41] Mohegan is probably more of an Academy Award winner.
[00:46:44] Heat is just like that's Michael Mann and his best
[00:46:46] because we've seen so many action films since.
[00:46:48] It's doing what Michael Mann can only do.
[00:46:50] Exactly.
[00:46:51] Honestly, like pull together that kind of cast
[00:46:52] with that kind of like gravitas on an action film.
[00:46:56] The only other action films lately that I've seen
[00:46:58] that were not directed by Michael Mann that were just as
[00:47:01] like full of gravitas, the town comes to mind.
[00:47:04] It's this very visceral, very hardcore movie.
[00:47:08] There's a heaviness to it too.
[00:47:10] It's dripping.
[00:47:11] It's heavy too.
[00:47:13] It feels awaited.
[00:47:16] Weight is a great film.
[00:47:18] It's great.
[00:47:19] So this didn't have that.
[00:47:21] Like this Ferrari didn't have it.
[00:47:23] It was lighter.
[00:47:24] Not lighter as comedy, but just lighter.
[00:47:26] Like I'm not emotionally impacted unless I'm watching
[00:47:28] Driver and Cruise interact with Joe.
[00:47:31] What about is this a better film than Public Enemies?
[00:47:34] I think Public Enemies is fine.
[00:47:36] No, I don't know.
[00:47:37] I haven't seen it.
[00:47:38] I don't like Public Enemies that much.
[00:47:39] No, Public Enemies is fine.
[00:47:40] Ferrari's better.
[00:47:43] But you're right though.
[00:47:45] Miami Vice is warm because there are again,
[00:47:48] he brings back the gun violence in such a way
[00:47:51] that the sounds.
[00:47:52] There's a scene in Miami Vice
[00:47:54] that's one of the best since he scenes with guns going off.
[00:47:58] I need to watch the movie.
[00:48:00] I haven't seen this as it came out.
[00:48:02] And I don't remember loving it very much.
[00:48:04] And again, there's enough not to like about it,
[00:48:06] but there's so many redeeming things about the film.
[00:48:09] It's a lot of fun to watch when you watch it again.
[00:48:12] There you go.
[00:48:13] I'm going to look real quick to see anything else.
[00:48:15] I watched the whole of it.
[00:48:17] For Rebel Moon, whatever.
[00:48:19] Oh dude, I forgot to talk about Rebel Moon
[00:48:21] after I watched it too because it's such a piece of shit.
[00:48:23] Let's just talk about real quickly.
[00:48:25] It's just a rip off.
[00:48:26] It's awful.
[00:48:27] It's awful.
[00:48:28] It's Zack Snyder trying to do Star Wars, which everyone knows.
[00:48:30] He's also doing like putting the crew together movie.
[00:48:32] Yeah, it's just...
[00:48:34] I didn't end up watching it because I heard so many bad things about it.
[00:48:37] I don't know how you're supposed to care about any of the characters.
[00:48:40] I don't know how you're supposed to be invested
[00:48:42] in any of the world building that he does.
[00:48:44] I really like the trailer.
[00:48:45] It is a hollow shell of a movie that feels like
[00:48:48] they made a live action version of video game cut scenes.
[00:48:51] I just...
[00:48:52] I was baffled.
[00:48:53] I wanted to like it because I saw the trailer.
[00:48:55] The trailer was good.
[00:48:56] The visuals looks cool and Zack Snyder is great at making cool visuals.
[00:48:59] He does not know how to make a good beating story go along with it.
[00:49:03] It's just so disjointed because they try to tell all these stories at once
[00:49:08] with these backstories, these characters and the pink and blue.
[00:49:11] Anyway, not worth it.
[00:49:12] But then I will talk about actually one more.
[00:49:14] Blackberry.
[00:49:15] So I finally got to over on to watching Blackberry.
[00:49:17] Brad had said it's really great.
[00:49:19] And it's a story about a tech company in the 90s, 80s.
[00:49:23] Who cares?
[00:49:24] But man, the performances are incredible.
[00:49:26] Glenn Howerton should have been nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal.
[00:49:31] In my opinion.
[00:49:32] He was very good.
[00:49:33] He was fucking amazing in this role.
[00:49:34] I've never ever watched a movie where I saw somebody be such a dick
[00:49:39] and such a pointed asshole and yet I was still rooting for him the whole fucking time.
[00:49:43] For sure.
[00:49:44] That is so rare that honestly I do believe that only really good comedians can do that.
[00:49:48] Where it's like, there is something beneath this asshole that I like.
[00:49:53] I just think that like Adam Driver is really good at being a dramatic actor
[00:49:59] but he got such a funny side to him.
[00:50:01] He can also pull this off.
[00:50:03] Like you've got to be both sides of the coin to do a role like this
[00:50:06] where it's something you don't dismiss as just the asshole.
[00:50:10] Right?
[00:50:11] He was Glenn Howerton is perfect in this role.
[00:50:13] You have to have a look to you as well.
[00:50:15] And Glenn Howerton has that look where I'm like,
[00:50:17] I could like you or you could be a douche just as easily.
[00:50:20] The way that he physically screams in this film when he's just mad at people.
[00:50:25] I have impersonated it a couple of times.
[00:50:27] I did it so Ashley and I were in the kitchen like three nights ago whatever.
[00:50:32] Hey your girlfriend.
[00:50:33] My girlfriend Ashley.
[00:50:34] And we're sitting there.
[00:50:35] Can I try again?
[00:50:36] What's that?
[00:50:37] Try again?
[00:50:38] You always say that.
[00:50:39] Your girlfriend Ashley.
[00:50:40] Oh sorry I can't do it like you do.
[00:50:41] Yeah my girlfriend Bernard.
[00:50:42] My girlfriend Ashley.
[00:50:43] I don't say it.
[00:50:44] This is how like anyway so Ashley and I were in the kitchen the other night and we're talking
[00:50:47] and I said I watched Blackberry and she's like,
[00:50:50] well why did you like it so much?
[00:50:51] And I go, well he's yelling.
[00:50:52] He yells but the way he yells is almost like this visceral like really big reaction
[00:50:57] and she's like, we'll do it.
[00:50:58] And I go, I don't want to scare the dogs.
[00:51:00] And she's like, no, I mean they're in the bedroom.
[00:51:02] I think they'll be okay.
[00:51:03] And I did like my version of what he did and I just really put like the loudest I could
[00:51:09] and immediately when I did it her eyes got super wide like cause she's never heard me
[00:51:15] actually yell like I was mad.
[00:51:17] And so I just yell like he did in the movie and I come off like a fucking asshole right
[00:51:22] there.
[00:51:23] He does that and you're still like kind of want him to win.
[00:51:26] Yeah.
[00:51:27] It's so weird.
[00:51:28] It's a great movie.
[00:51:29] Have you seen it?
[00:51:30] No, I haven't.
[00:51:31] You should.
[00:51:32] You'll like it.
[00:51:33] You'll really like it.
[00:51:34] It's better than you would think.
[00:51:35] Not that I thought it was going to be bad but it's just, it just works infinitely
[00:51:37] better than a movie like you would think that it would work.
[00:51:40] It's better than it deserves to be almost right.
[00:51:43] I thought because yeah, again, who could have a fuck about what happened to Blackburn?
[00:51:46] It's not what it's about.
[00:51:47] It's about power and what it does to you and leverage and what it does to you.
[00:51:51] But also for me, I look at it as these are business people building a business
[00:51:56] and what happens to that business.
[00:51:58] I really obviously identify with that.
[00:52:00] You're a businessman.
[00:52:01] I love that stuff.
[00:52:02] I love it.
[00:52:03] That's why I thought air was so good.
[00:52:04] I couldn't believe that it's just been on no one's radar except for yours, Brad, honestly.
[00:52:09] I compliment you on that.
[00:52:10] Air is one of the best movies of the year from 2023.
[00:52:12] It's so good.
[00:52:13] Other than Brad, you guys are fucking morons.
[00:52:15] Like everybody's sleeping on that movie.
[00:52:17] I don't get it.
[00:52:18] Yeah, I'm annoyed that it didn't at least get like a screenplay nod.
[00:52:21] Anything.
[00:52:22] Or just like, hey, if you're going to write an article saying the top 10 movies of the
[00:52:26] year and then you're going to have 10 more as unimaginable mention and you're
[00:52:29] not going to even mention air.
[00:52:30] I honestly, I think what it is, people hate Ben Affleck.
[00:52:34] I think what it is, honestly, is that it came out pretty early.
[00:52:37] Even though they did do a big awards push for it, I think the other problem is that there's
[00:52:43] a certain cynicism for people where they're like, well, it's just a movie about a shoe.
[00:52:47] It's just like it's about a product.
[00:52:49] But again, Blackberry made a couple of top 10s.
[00:52:51] It's just about a product.
[00:52:52] Yeah.
[00:52:53] I think because Nike is Nike, it probably makes it feel a little more capitalism
[00:53:00] driven in a way.
[00:53:01] We can't award Nike.
[00:53:02] Right.
[00:53:03] Oscar nominate you.
[00:53:04] But for me, I just loved so much that the movie, it's not just about the origin of the shoe.
[00:53:09] No.
[00:53:10] That monologue that Matt Damon gives is so fucking good.
[00:53:12] Well, and also like...
[00:53:13] And that's the core of the movie.
[00:53:14] These fucking idiots are out there judging this film without even seeing it.
[00:53:17] I think that's a problem.
[00:53:18] Can we also give a shout out to the Golden Globes because they did nominate this
[00:53:22] film for the best motion picture musical or comedy and best actor motion picture
[00:53:27] musical or comedy for Matt Damon?
[00:53:28] Well, it's a little easier for them because they do have...
[00:53:30] Well, Brett has always said that the Golden Globes are better than the other ones.
[00:53:32] Yeah, he said there the Lexus.
[00:53:34] The Lexus of...
[00:53:35] It's like if you want to have like a Hyundai Tiberon, that would be the Oscars and then
[00:53:40] a Ferrari or a Maserati would be the Golden Globes.
[00:53:43] Brett, for now.
[00:53:44] Jesus Christ, fucking...
[00:53:46] They also got...
[00:53:47] This also got...
[00:53:48] The cast of air got nominated for a Critics Choice Award.
[00:53:51] Which Brett also loves?
[00:53:52] Yeah.
[00:53:53] No, Critics Choice Awards are not gonna do that.
[00:53:54] They also got Best Original Screen Pay and Best Editing for Critics Choice.
[00:53:58] So...
[00:53:59] There's some award shows.
[00:54:00] There has been some recognition.
[00:54:02] The big one.
[00:54:03] The big one didn't...
[00:54:04] Any real top ten list though, I didn't really see it getting...
[00:54:07] Agree.
[00:54:08] Which is sad.
[00:54:09] So fucking watch air and then watch Blackberry and tell us which is better.
[00:54:12] Nate, what are the movies you saw?
[00:54:14] All right, I have seen a couple movies.
[00:54:16] I don't know if I talked about this or not in a previous episode.
[00:54:20] Did I talk about Wonka that I actually saw Wonka?
[00:54:22] I don't remember that actually.
[00:54:23] I don't know if I did or not but I did see Wonka because I do remember that
[00:54:26] Brett had some opinions about it.
[00:54:28] I liked Wonka.
[00:54:30] To Brett's opinion, it's a softer version obviously.
[00:54:34] It's more of an easy watch compared to the craziness of the original Gene Wilder version.
[00:54:43] Yeah.
[00:54:44] So Gene Wilder...
[00:54:45] So I like Gene Wilder's take on Wonka.
[00:54:48] I like that Wonka was a little bit...
[00:54:52] There's a little bit of crazy to him, right?
[00:54:55] But also charm but also crazy.
[00:54:58] Like you didn't know who he really was, right?
[00:55:02] And at the end you're like, oh the good wins.
[00:55:04] He's actually a decent person, right?
[00:55:06] But there's a little bit of just insanity.
[00:55:08] He killed kids in his family.
[00:55:10] He murdered children but yeah, no he's a good guy.
[00:55:12] But Timothy Chalamet is fine.
[00:55:15] He's fine.
[00:55:17] But this film is good and with a better Wonka,
[00:55:20] this film is actually a pretty dang good film.
[00:55:22] Exactly.
[00:55:24] And so I actually like this film.
[00:55:26] More like Timothy Charlotton.
[00:55:28] And I was sad that...
[00:55:29] You know what that word means?
[00:55:30] Well yeah, Charlotton is somebody who doesn't fit the role.
[00:55:32] It's like faking.
[00:55:34] Yeah, I mean it's not the best...
[00:55:37] But it works.
[00:55:38] I'm gonna give it to him.
[00:55:39] Ding, ding, ding, ding.
[00:55:40] Do you know what a Charlotton is, Brett?
[00:55:42] Or do you not know what that meaning is?
[00:55:44] You guys, nobody's listening.
[00:55:46] Charlie does more of like an outcast, isn't it?
[00:55:49] No, a Charlotton is somebody who has a snake oil assessment.
[00:55:51] Yeah, like a snake oil assessment.
[00:55:53] Because Charlotton is lying to you to get something that he wants.
[00:55:56] Well then I'm wrong but that still doesn't necessarily fit.
[00:55:58] I mean it's not the best word but it works.
[00:56:00] It works.
[00:56:01] Yeah because he...
[00:56:03] I'll take that victory though.
[00:56:05] He does have the genuine skills and stuff like that
[00:56:08] but his performance rings false
[00:56:11] because I don't think that he quite knows how to
[00:56:14] grasp the more eccentric side of like
[00:56:18] what the Wonka character is supposed to be.
[00:56:20] He's just a very one note in this.
[00:56:22] I don't know if that's Timothy Chalamet as a whole
[00:56:24] because I've seen him do some other things
[00:56:26] but he does... he's pretty one note.
[00:56:28] I don't think he has a lot of range.
[00:56:29] Yeah, he just doesn't seem like it.
[00:56:31] And I think this needed a little bit more range
[00:56:33] because again, Gene Wilder has a ton of range when he does it.
[00:56:36] You don't have to recreate Gene Wilder
[00:56:38] but I think Wonka as a character
[00:56:40] has to have...
[00:56:41] He probably should have his own take on it.
[00:56:43] Yeah, he does but it's just not...
[00:56:45] It doesn't feel like it works very well.
[00:56:47] And it's too bad because everyone else does really, really great.
[00:56:50] Yeah, the supporting cast...
[00:56:51] That's another reason I don't think his performance
[00:56:53] stands out for everyone is because the rest of the cast is so good.
[00:56:55] They're so good.
[00:56:56] And they all have their own strange, unique kind of traits
[00:56:59] and Wonka for his character, what he's supposed to be
[00:57:03] doesn't feel like he's unique or strange enough
[00:57:06] and granted, it's an earlier version of Wonka
[00:57:08] so he's not going to be quite as weird as Gene Wilder's performance
[00:57:11] but the moments where you do see him show that little bit of like
[00:57:15] zaniness, it doesn't ring true.
[00:57:17] And so like that's a really fresh...
[00:57:18] So would you say these are charlatan?
[00:57:20] No, because like I don't really...
[00:57:22] I don't like that word.
[00:57:23] You don't really know what that means.
[00:57:24] I'm not gonna know.
[00:57:25] We're fine, we're fine.
[00:57:26] But I like the film.
[00:57:27] If you've not seen it, see the film.
[00:57:29] It is a good film but...
[00:57:31] All right, I'll see it.
[00:57:33] I like the world they create.
[00:57:35] I said I would see it.
[00:57:36] Yeah, the world is solid.
[00:57:39] See, I don't like the use of charlatan
[00:57:42] because it implies...
[00:57:43] You're still thinking about that.
[00:57:44] It implies that Timothy Charlemagne is like...
[00:57:46] Lying or like intentionally lying or like...
[00:57:48] But like it's just that the performance doesn't feel...
[00:57:51] That's why I said it.
[00:57:52] More like Timothy Charlatan as a joke
[00:57:56] as in like this is a false representation
[00:57:58] of what Wonka should be.
[00:57:59] What does it really imply?
[00:58:00] It's not exactly dead to right.
[00:58:02] Why would it be?
[00:58:03] Just admit you don't know what the fucking word means
[00:58:04] and we'll move on.
[00:58:05] I mean, I said that but...
[00:58:07] Yeah, that's fine.
[00:58:08] It doesn't make you more right.
[00:58:10] It does though, it actually does exactly that.
[00:58:12] No, it doesn't though.
[00:58:13] It's not for you and it feels good for me.
[00:58:15] I feel good in general, it's gonna be better.
[00:58:17] Nate?
[00:58:18] Alright, moving on.
[00:58:20] I saw another film called The Underdogs.
[00:58:23] Have you heard of this film?
[00:58:25] I think so.
[00:58:27] We've talked about this before that in the 90s
[00:58:30] was the golden era of kid sports films.
[00:58:35] Where there's a kid team, the mighty Dutch...
[00:58:38] Little Giants.
[00:58:39] Sandlot.
[00:58:40] Yep.
[00:58:41] This is a film...
[00:58:42] In that vein, that is...
[00:58:45] Stand by me.
[00:58:47] Stand by me.
[00:58:50] I assume this film is rated R.
[00:58:52] It should be if it's not.
[00:58:54] It is starring Snoop Dogg.
[00:58:56] Oh, okay.
[00:58:57] Yep.
[00:58:58] It is produced by Kenya Barris.
[00:59:01] Is that his name?
[00:59:02] Yeah, the co-creator of Black-ish.
[00:59:03] Yep.
[00:59:04] And so Snoop Dogg plays this
[00:59:07] former professional football player
[00:59:09] that is very...
[00:59:11] He's very, very good.
[00:59:13] I assume he was a quarterback.
[00:59:14] No, he was a wide receiver.
[00:59:15] Okay, that works too.
[00:59:16] And he just...
[00:59:18] He was very much about himself.
[00:59:19] Like wide receivers often are.
[00:59:21] But then ends up retiring
[00:59:24] and he just has nobody kind of
[00:59:26] and he's still very kind of egocentric.
[00:59:29] And he ends up because
[00:59:33] he's losing popularity, all these things.
[00:59:35] He coaches this youth football team.
[00:59:38] But I am not kidding you.
[00:59:40] The language on this film is ridiculous.
[00:59:44] It is so...
[00:59:45] Like Bad News Bear style?
[00:59:47] Were they using the F word and stuff?
[00:59:49] Way worse.
[00:59:51] Then the F word?
[00:59:52] Way worse.
[00:59:53] Well, it's Snoop Dogg.
[00:59:54] Yeah.
[00:59:55] I mean that doesn't mean he was having a bear.
[00:59:57] I figured it starts...
[00:59:59] One of the kids' name is Titty.
[01:00:02] He calls him Titty.
[01:00:05] Because you need to hold the football like you hold the Titty.
[01:00:10] I do like that...
[01:00:12] Clarify.
[01:00:13] Well, now I'm going to watch this movie.
[01:00:15] What I mean by hard R is like...
[01:00:17] What are the kids' names?
[01:00:18] Titty?
[01:00:19] What are the kids' name is Titty?
[01:00:20] Sorry, what are their names?
[01:00:21] Titty?
[01:00:22] I mean it's absurd how Snoop Dogg this film gets.
[01:00:26] That's crazy.
[01:00:27] But it's fine.
[01:00:29] It is a paint by number.
[01:00:32] Well, because it's a kids' sports film.
[01:00:34] But you didn't watch it with your kids.
[01:00:36] I started and then I turned it off.
[01:00:38] Is it rated R?
[01:00:40] I don't know.
[01:00:41] Because it's on Amazon Prime.
[01:00:42] You don't really see those things like...
[01:00:44] It's got to be rated R though.
[01:00:45] I assume there's F word in the movie.
[01:00:47] Yeah, there's a lot of...
[01:00:49] Oh, it's definitely not.
[01:00:51] Even if it doesn't have an actual R rating.
[01:00:53] Yeah, R rating is level 3.
[01:00:55] Yeah, it is rated R by the way.
[01:00:57] Wow.
[01:00:58] And so then I went and finished it without my kids.
[01:01:00] I want to see if this actually like...
[01:01:02] How does this...
[01:01:03] Do they win the championship?
[01:01:04] Does this pay off, you know?
[01:01:06] No.
[01:01:07] And it's not a bad film.
[01:01:10] It isn't.
[01:01:11] It's just...
[01:01:12] It is raunchy.
[01:01:13] Vulgar.
[01:01:14] Honestly, the raunchiness is just in the language.
[01:01:17] It isn't like a raunchy film anywhere else.
[01:01:20] Snoop Dogg actually does fairly well in this film.
[01:01:23] He plays this role really well.
[01:01:25] He's a football fan himself.
[01:01:27] So he understands this kind of film.
[01:01:29] Starring Calvin Brodas.
[01:01:31] Yes.
[01:01:32] Did you like it?
[01:01:33] I thought it was fine.
[01:01:34] I thought it was fine.
[01:01:35] I didn't love it, but I thought it was fine.
[01:01:37] It's just who's it for?
[01:01:38] That's what I want to say.
[01:01:39] Yeah, it's a kid's sports movie made for adults.
[01:01:42] I'm not a prude, but I felt weird watching it.
[01:01:45] That is strange.
[01:01:47] The other film I saw, I've got two more,
[01:01:51] Self-Reliance.
[01:01:52] Have you seen this one yet?
[01:01:53] No, but I know this is...
[01:01:54] You're going to like this film.
[01:01:56] Oh, I watched this.
[01:01:57] You did.
[01:01:58] What did you think?
[01:01:59] I actually did.
[01:02:00] I think Brad's going to like this film.
[01:02:01] No, I think you will.
[01:02:02] The premise looks fun.
[01:02:03] Yeah, so Jake Johnson wrote and produced and stars
[01:02:07] and directed in this film.
[01:02:08] This is his baby.
[01:02:09] Actually, just listen to an interview of his
[01:02:13] on the Pete Holmes podcast.
[01:02:14] I don't often listen to Pete Holmes, but I...
[01:02:16] Because it's seven hours long now?
[01:02:18] It's so long.
[01:02:19] But I like Jake Johnson a lot because I'm such a new girl fan.
[01:02:22] So there's the podcast that's bordering on an hour and a half.
[01:02:24] Listen, literally there are three-hour episodes now.
[01:02:27] So I want to listen to this, but it was really interesting
[01:02:29] because Jake Johnson talks in that podcast about
[01:02:32] the necessary relationship that a creative person
[01:02:37] has to have with the audience.
[01:02:39] He said sometimes films he really dislikes
[01:02:43] because they have no relationship with the audience.
[01:02:45] They don't care about how people are actually going to
[01:02:47] view the film.
[01:02:48] They just want to create the film.
[01:02:50] I'm making the thing for me.
[01:02:52] It's your fault for not liking it.
[01:02:54] If you don't like it, fuck you.
[01:02:55] You didn't get it.
[01:02:56] And his point is, no, you're a bad filmmaker then.
[01:02:58] Because people should actually like to see your film.
[01:03:01] You should actually have a relationship
[01:03:03] and you should actually want to say,
[01:03:05] oh, I kind of...
[01:03:06] Not to say I'm only creating it for the masses,
[01:03:09] but there has to be an audience there.
[01:03:11] There is that ducts of position between
[01:03:14] I'm going to make the broadest movie possible
[01:03:17] so that CBS can put it on on Thursday nights.
[01:03:20] That's terrible.
[01:03:21] But you also don't want to make such a niche film
[01:03:23] that like me and my buddies thinks it's hilarious
[01:03:25] and no one else does.
[01:03:27] What are you doing?
[01:03:28] Well, you've taken out the consideration for the audience
[01:03:30] to say, well, they may not get this
[01:03:32] and we should actually think about them getting this.
[01:03:34] So Brad and I have had this conversation
[01:03:36] and I think actually, we all have.
[01:03:38] Where it's like movies like Popstar, Hot Rod,
[01:03:41] even Napoleon Dynamite necessarily wouldn't have been
[01:03:44] the biggest hit that it was.
[01:03:46] It just got a groundswell.
[01:03:49] But that's not a movie made for everybody.
[01:03:51] It just was one that hit the mainstream.
[01:03:53] But a movie like Hot Rod, if you look that up,
[01:03:56] it's not very well received.
[01:03:58] It didn't do well at the box, obviously.
[01:04:00] But that's a fucking hilarious movie.
[01:04:02] It's a cult favorite.
[01:04:03] Exactly.
[01:04:04] And these become cult favorites because
[01:04:07] it's not for everybody, but it's for enough.
[01:04:10] And it also...
[01:04:11] It didn't have its audience right when it released,
[01:04:13] but it found its audience.
[01:04:15] But I like that Jake is talking about the fact
[01:04:17] that he's at least cognizant of making a movie
[01:04:20] for more than just himself.
[01:04:22] So anyway, this film is about a man
[01:04:25] that has an opportunity to go on a game show.
[01:04:28] And the game show is essentially
[01:04:31] you will get killed...
[01:04:33] We will hunt you.
[01:04:34] We will hunt you.
[01:04:35] For real.
[01:04:36] ...and kill you unless you're with somebody else.
[01:04:39] Yeah, you will win $1 million at the end of 30 days
[01:04:42] if you stay alive.
[01:04:44] We will be actively hunting you.
[01:04:46] Why would anybody sign up for that?
[01:04:48] Well, there's one big caveat.
[01:04:49] If you're within dangerous proximity
[01:04:52] to somebody else that couldn't get hurt,
[01:04:53] we will not act on that.
[01:04:55] Yeah, so if the three of us are together,
[01:04:58] we're in no fear of them hunting us
[01:05:01] or hurting us or anything like that.
[01:05:02] So the character that Jake plays
[01:05:05] overestimates, let's say,
[01:05:07] how easy that will be to just always be around somebody.
[01:05:11] Especially when people don't necessarily want to be around you
[01:05:13] because that's what this film ends up being about
[01:05:15] is the importance of having people around you.
[01:05:18] That's the kind of film he's trying to make.
[01:05:20] This is no spoilers,
[01:05:22] but in the very first opening part of it,
[01:05:24] after this happens to him,
[01:05:26] we realize immediately that he doesn't have
[01:05:28] the best relationship with his family.
[01:05:31] And so maybe you can't just
[01:05:33] handcuff yourself to mom for 30 days
[01:05:36] because maybe nobody believes that this is real.
[01:05:40] And so like, honey, I get it, but I'm a nurse.
[01:05:42] I've got to work.
[01:05:43] I can't take time off.
[01:05:45] It's a million dollars.
[01:05:46] Yeah, but I've got to go to work.
[01:05:48] That's kind of like the very start of this.
[01:05:52] And then of course it goes bonkers from there
[01:05:54] in the best way.
[01:05:55] You know what I love about this film though, Ben?
[01:05:57] I love the film itself.
[01:05:58] I loved it.
[01:05:59] It was 87 Minutes.
[01:06:00] And I love a good 87-minute film.
[01:06:02] And it got in, it got out, it did what it did.
[01:06:05] I still, after all these years,
[01:06:08] Anacondra called me, I love you.
[01:06:11] It's a true story. She's adorable still.
[01:06:13] And so it just, what a fun film.
[01:06:15] I think you can see it on Hulu maybe?
[01:06:17] Yeah.
[01:06:18] I think that's right, Washi.
[01:06:19] Yeah.
[01:06:20] Well worth everybody's time.
[01:06:21] It's a lot of fun.
[01:06:22] Well worth your time because it is so short.
[01:06:23] It is short, but also a story that's just fun.
[01:06:25] Like it is not the story that you've seen all of them.
[01:06:28] Different enough to make it a mark.
[01:06:30] And then the final one that I want to talk about
[01:06:33] that I got to see is a TV series.
[01:06:35] So, Brad, I'm just going to be talking to you.
[01:06:37] That's right.
[01:06:38] So I did get to see this TV series
[01:06:40] that I really like called Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
[01:06:42] Have you guys seen it yet?
[01:06:43] No, I've heard it's good though.
[01:06:44] I've not seen it.
[01:06:45] It is so much fun.
[01:06:46] I'm too busy with the return.
[01:06:47] You will, both of you, you haven't finished the series
[01:06:49] in a week or what are you doing?
[01:06:51] Watching movie.
[01:06:52] Are we not 40 some year old men?
[01:06:53] I'm watching movies.
[01:06:54] Come on.
[01:06:55] But I'm through two episodes.
[01:06:58] It is so much fun.
[01:07:00] I'm going to walk upstairs and watch the third episode
[01:07:01] of Reacher tonight.
[01:07:02] It is so much fun.
[01:07:03] Mr. and Mrs. Smith, if you get a chance,
[01:07:05] that's all I'll say.
[01:07:06] It's just if you get a chance, watch this.
[01:07:07] It is a lot more.
[01:07:08] Is it really worth your time?
[01:07:09] It's so much fun.
[01:07:10] Okay.
[01:07:11] I can't wait.
[01:07:12] I hope they do another season.
[01:07:13] It's a great mystery.
[01:07:15] It is a great love story.
[01:07:17] How much is the same kind of premise as the movie?
[01:07:21] Close enough, but very expanded and different enough as well.
[01:07:26] It is based on this, so let's say this.
[01:07:31] It is based on the world of Mr. and Mrs. Smith
[01:07:34] where Mr. and Mrs. Smith exists.
[01:07:37] Okay, okay.
[01:07:38] But it is a very different Mr. and Mrs. Smith.
[01:07:40] Because they can't necessarily take it to the level
[01:07:42] that the movie does because the conflict
[01:07:44] has to be spread out across the series.
[01:07:46] The first episode, they're going to find out
[01:07:48] that each other is a spy and then you need to kill each other.
[01:07:50] That's going to be tough to do for eight episodes.
[01:07:53] And then like I said, the premise is that
[01:07:56] other Mr. and Mrs. Smiths exist.
[01:07:58] Sure.
[01:07:59] And so this is about one of those kind of...
[01:08:01] This is about all the Smiths.
[01:08:02] Yeah.
[01:08:03] So...
[01:08:04] Some Westerns.
[01:08:05] It is.
[01:08:06] But mainly Smiths.
[01:08:07] It is a lot of fun and I'm really glad they made it
[01:08:11] and I hope shit.
[01:08:12] I hope people watch it.
[01:08:13] The Wessons, not Westeros.
[01:08:15] So...
[01:08:16] Smith and Westeros.
[01:08:17] And Donald Glover's great.
[01:08:18] No one cares.
[01:08:19] No one's listening by now.
[01:08:20] Donald Glover is great.
[01:08:21] He's great in everything.
[01:08:22] And my Eris kind is in it too.
[01:08:23] Yeah, she's great.
[01:08:24] From Pen 115 or Pen 15.
[01:08:26] Penis.
[01:08:27] It's not Penis.
[01:08:28] I just call it Penis.
[01:08:30] All right.
[01:08:31] I want to give a quick shout out to a TV show real quick.
[01:08:33] It's not one that warrants a lot of exploration
[01:08:36] but it's a show that I adore because it's so charming
[01:08:40] and it's kind of out of left field for the kind of things that I usually watch.
[01:08:43] But if you haven't heard of the show or if you haven't watched it,
[01:08:45] there's a show on Netflix called...
[01:08:49] Sheldon.
[01:08:50] Young Sheldon.
[01:08:51] Why would you take my thunder?
[01:08:53] I'm sorry.
[01:08:54] I want to talk about Big Bang Theory.
[01:08:55] You're making a fucking joke out of it.
[01:08:58] I love the idea that Brad would legitimately like...
[01:09:01] I just want to take a time out.
[01:09:02] And obviously let's not fuck around right now.
[01:09:04] Young Sheldon.
[01:09:05] No, it's not.
[01:09:06] Yeah, I'm trying to talk about it.
[01:09:07] I mean...
[01:09:08] I'm dead.
[01:09:10] I'm dead.
[01:09:11] I'm dead.
[01:09:12] I'm sorry.
[01:09:13] Jim Parsons is really good at it.
[01:09:16] You know, he plays like he's a nerd and so like I identify with him
[01:09:20] and like he's got these friends and like it's really funny.
[01:09:23] Oh god.
[01:09:24] Sorry, I'll give it a shot.
[01:09:25] I'm sorry.
[01:09:26] Yeah, I just watch Big Bang Theory.
[01:09:27] Yeah, Big Bang Theory.
[01:09:28] The best thing that's ever happened in the world.
[01:09:29] No, on Netflix there's a show called Love on the Spectrum.
[01:09:32] It is a documentary reality kind of show.
[01:09:36] It started in Australia.
[01:09:37] Now there's a US version and it follows young people who...
[01:09:41] They're not all young.
[01:09:42] There's a couple older people too, but they're in their like 20s, 30s
[01:09:46] and they're all on the spectrum.
[01:09:48] They all have some form of autism of varying degrees
[01:09:51] and they all have different ticks and things like that.
[01:09:53] And it follows them as they are trying to date
[01:09:56] and find romance and everything.
[01:09:58] And so it has these talking heads with them
[01:10:00] and finding about their lives,
[01:10:01] watching them go on dates with each other.
[01:10:02] And they're all just so earnest and genuine
[01:10:05] and like learning about stuff and eager
[01:10:08] and because they all do have their own proclivities
[01:10:10] and eccentricities,
[01:10:11] it's very fun to watch them engage and figure stuff out.
[01:10:15] I think this is phenomenal.
[01:10:16] It's a phenomenal show.
[01:10:17] It's just such a shot of joy and love
[01:10:21] and it's beautiful to watch.
[01:10:23] And then you root for every single one of them
[01:10:25] and it's just a wonderful show.
[01:10:28] Both versions, the Australian version
[01:10:29] and the US version just came out with a second season
[01:10:31] and that's what I just watched.
[01:10:33] Yeah, it does shock me that...
[01:10:34] Not that you've got a good heart
[01:10:36] but it does shock me that you liked this show
[01:10:38] because this doesn't seem like a show
[01:10:39] that you would expect the last time much.
[01:10:40] And it's because it's not framed as reality show garbage.
[01:10:45] So it borders on documentary on this, right?
[01:10:47] Yeah, absolutely.
[01:10:48] For sure, for sure.
[01:10:49] It's just very good.
[01:10:50] So yeah, if you want to warm your heart,
[01:10:52] give that a watch.
[01:10:53] So are we going to watch trailers or not?
[01:10:55] What are we going to do?
[01:10:56] Let's just quickly talk about one trailer
[01:10:57] because we're pushing in.
[01:10:58] There's one worth watching.
[01:11:00] We saw the trailer for the remake of Roadhouse
[01:11:03] starring Roadhouse, starting Jake Gyllenhaal
[01:11:05] and Conor McGregor.
[01:11:06] Conor McGregor, if you don't know is...
[01:11:08] I don't think Conor McGregor is like
[01:11:10] the number two build person in this film.
[01:11:12] I mean he pretty much is though.
[01:11:14] They are putting the poster out there
[01:11:16] of Jake Gyllenhaal versus Conor McGregor.
[01:11:18] It's a thing.
[01:11:20] He is a very, very popular mixed martial arts athlete
[01:11:24] even though he wasn't the best of all time.
[01:11:26] Yeah, it's like when they teamed up Dennis Rodman
[01:11:28] with John Claude Van Damme and Double Team.
[01:11:30] Oh yeah, it's actually kind of exactly like that.
[01:11:32] Except for...
[01:11:33] This is a Doug Liman movie who did...
[01:11:35] What are you...
[01:11:36] Or identity.
[01:11:37] Yeah, so yes.
[01:11:38] I just feel like Jessica Williams
[01:11:39] should be second build on this.
[01:11:40] Sure, I mean she should be but it's...
[01:11:42] Or Daniela Malkia.
[01:11:43] This is made for the brocifs of the world.
[01:11:46] And I'm here for it.
[01:11:47] So that's why I'm going to watch it.
[01:11:49] No, it's...
[01:11:50] It'll be on my best of 2024 film.
[01:11:53] I love the fact they're doing this.
[01:11:54] It's so silly and over the top.
[01:11:56] Jake Gyllenhaal, honestly, we saw from Southpaw
[01:12:00] that he can get ripped up and look the part.
[01:12:03] So this is fun to me.
[01:12:05] No, it looks surprisingly good.
[01:12:07] It looks really fun.
[01:12:08] I'm excited to see it.
[01:12:09] It doesn't feel like it's quite as over the top
[01:12:13] as the original Roadhouse.
[01:12:15] It is in some ways but like...
[01:12:17] I didn't see one throat rip.
[01:12:18] That's a good point.
[01:12:19] But maybe they're saving that.
[01:12:20] You don't want to give your throat a story.
[01:12:22] By the way, if they don't do some sort of...
[01:12:25] Because that's what Patrick Swayze was known for in Roadhouse.
[01:12:29] He took a man's Adam's apple out.
[01:12:33] I need to see that.
[01:12:34] I'm not going to be upset if it happens.
[01:12:36] But maybe they'll go a step further.
[01:12:38] Maybe he'll just rip another part of his body out
[01:12:40] or something like that.
[01:12:41] Would you rather see him rip someone's throat out
[01:12:44] or pull someone's dick off with his hand?
[01:12:47] That's a really easy answer.
[01:12:49] I still want to see him throw a rip.
[01:12:51] I don't know.
[01:12:52] I'd love to see Jake J. Allen Hall just stretch someone's...
[01:12:54] What the fuck is this?
[01:12:55] ...dick off their body.
[01:12:56] This is how you can tell it's late in the night.
[01:12:58] Brad's like, I want to see a dick rip.
[01:13:00] You've never seen a dick rip before?
[01:13:01] I've never seen a dick...
[01:13:02] You know what?
[01:13:03] To be fair, I've never seen a dick rip.
[01:13:04] Yeah.
[01:13:05] I mean, McGrew was ripped throat so like...
[01:13:07] Fair enough.
[01:13:08] Yeah, come on.
[01:13:09] I want to see...
[01:13:10] You know what?
[01:13:11] I stand corrected.
[01:13:12] Yeah, either that or reaches his hand up someone's ass
[01:13:14] and pulls it out.
[01:13:15] Just like an anal cavity retreat.
[01:13:17] Like a fucking sleeve.
[01:13:18] Yeah.
[01:13:19] Like when you get your sleeve stuck on your hand.
[01:13:20] Like a reverse wizard sleeve?
[01:13:21] Yeah.
[01:13:22] Roadhouse.
[01:13:23] Slivered weave.
[01:13:24] But no, I think this looks like a lot of fun.
[01:13:26] No, it's just...
[01:13:27] It's silly.
[01:13:28] It's over the top.
[01:13:29] There's some production value there obviously.
[01:13:30] Jake J. Allen is an alias actor.
[01:13:32] They are recreating this and doing the best they can
[01:13:34] with a big budget.
[01:13:35] Like this should be fun.
[01:13:37] And Billy Magnussen's in this
[01:13:38] and I love Billy Magnussen.
[01:13:39] Love Billy Magnussen.
[01:13:40] Yeah.
[01:13:41] He's just going to play a fun role in this.
[01:13:43] This is a film that if it went to the theater
[01:13:45] I would go see it in the theater I think.
[01:13:47] Yeah.
[01:13:48] No, it really looks...
[01:13:49] I hope they give it a limited theatrical release.
[01:13:52] I mean, I don't think they are
[01:13:53] because it comes out March 8th.
[01:13:54] It comes out in a month.
[01:13:55] It's still a month and a half away.
[01:13:56] Yeah.
[01:13:57] A month.
[01:13:58] Still a month ahead of us.
[01:13:59] That's a good Valentine's Day.
[01:14:00] Still got a couple of months away.
[01:14:01] I might take my girlfriend to go see it.
[01:14:03] I might take Ben's girlfriend to go see it.
[01:14:05] Please do.
[01:14:06] And then you just leave that anal stuff on the table, okay?
[01:14:09] Let's rip through it totally.
[01:14:11] Oh, I thought you were going another direction.
[01:14:13] Well, this is going to go please yourself.
[01:14:16] I don't know.
[01:14:17] Whatever.
[01:14:18] It's a good podcast.
[01:14:19] We're fine.
[01:14:20] We're fine.
[01:14:21] We're fine.
[01:14:22] We're out of sorts.
[01:14:23] It's been three weeks.
[01:14:24] I don't know.
[01:14:25] Yeah, we just...
[01:14:26] We'll do all the fun little trinket stuff.
[01:14:29] We let Brad just go on way too long with his stupid movies.
[01:14:31] We had a lot of films to cover.
[01:14:32] Stupid movies?
[01:14:33] You're stupid Sundance shit.
[01:14:34] Almost all my movies are better than the ones you saw.
[01:14:36] Yeah, but nobody wants to hear that.
[01:14:38] They want to hear more...
[01:14:40] You know, Alex Pappas wants to hear 20 more minutes about Roadhouse
[01:14:43] and 20 less minutes about Doma.
[01:14:45] I think you would rather hear 20 less minutes from you, period.
[01:14:48] Disagree.
[01:14:49] I'd see a film with June Scribb ripping a throat out.
[01:14:53] I would watch the hell out of that.
[01:14:56] Yes.
[01:14:57] Well, Hollywood, get on it.
[01:14:59] We want to see it.
[01:15:00] Get on it soon.
[01:15:01] Yeah, honestly.
[01:15:02] Again, you got about six months.
[01:15:03] Yeah.
[01:15:04] Beekeeper versus Doma.
[01:15:06] Oh, that's the universe we need to create.
[01:15:08] Widowkeeper.
[01:15:09] Now I'm talking.
[01:15:10] Widowkeeper.
[01:15:11] Yeah, widowkeeper.
[01:15:12] I love it.
[01:15:13] Well, guys, if you like this stupid...
[01:15:15] Widowkeeper 2 Black Widower.
[01:15:17] That's enough.
[01:15:18] If you like this dude podcast, just rate us $5.
[01:15:21] Just do whatever you want.
[01:15:22] Yeah, do whatever.
[01:15:23] Tell your friends or don't.
[01:15:24] I mean, yeah.
[01:15:25] I love you, but you don't love me, it's fine.
[01:15:26] Yeah, you can listen and you can tell your friends
[01:15:28] or you can fuck off, I guess.
[01:15:30] No, I won't.
[01:15:31] No, not that.
[01:15:32] Sorry, sorry, sorry.
[01:15:33] Even if you listen or not, we won't judge you either way.
[01:15:36] Right.
[01:15:37] We will judge you, but like...
[01:15:38] Nate!
[01:15:39] Well, let's just be honest with the listeners.
[01:15:41] Let's be honest, like, you can listen or not.
[01:15:43] You can tell your friends or not.
[01:15:44] We judge people that don't listen to this.
[01:15:45] We would prefer if you listened.
[01:15:46] Yeah, but if you don't, then just drop that.
[01:15:48] Listen here, I'm sorry.
[01:15:49] I'm sorry.
[01:15:50] What the fuck is wrong with you?
[01:15:51] I don't know.
[01:15:52] Let's be honest for once, alright?
[01:15:54] With the listeners.
[01:15:55] 13 listeners and I'm trying to get to 14
[01:15:57] and you guys are over here just telling me to fuck off.
[01:15:59] No, no, we're saying if you don't listen...
[01:16:01] Yeah, that's not...
[01:16:03] Anyway, that message will get to him.
[01:16:05] Bye everybody, bye!
[01:16:12] Nah, cheats ain't no.
