Episode 198 - Nate Doesn't Watch Movies (He Had to Pee)

Ben, Brad, and Nate are back, and we have some disappointing news. Nate has admitted to a terrible habit while watching movies, and we really don't understand. Just listen and feel the shame. We didn't have assigned movies, but Nate caught up with a visit to Alcatraz, Ben saw most of two movies (ugh), and Brad did a double feature in theaters like a good boy. Plus, we talk about the trailers for Mean Girls: The Musical (GET IN, LOSER, WE'RE SINGING AND DANCING!) and Imaginary (DEADDY BEAR!).

Who's ready to get flixed in the ears?

[00:00:00] Hey everybody, it's another episode of Go Flix Yourself. My name is Ben Conowitz and with me as always is the Die Hard to Die Hard to my die hard Bradford Oman. Hey, that's me at an airport

[00:00:30] Have we done this before? I don't know maybe if we have I'm sorry listener But uh the die hard with a vengeance to my die hard Nate Nate Laugh hey, it's me. It's pretty great Nate

[00:00:39] It's a pretty good movie die with a vengeance top notch from yeah, I mean it's it is better than yours Yeah, absolutely. I feel like we've done that before so listeners if we've done that before please look We don't really listen to our own episode

[00:00:49] We don't know so the four of you listen somebody let us know We got more for listeners. How many downloads do we get a week? Is it in hundreds? Yeah, it's in a hundred but it's I mean it's it's not like in the thousands

[00:00:59] We'd like it to be so hey, you know like and subscribe smash that subscribe smash it smash it so hard Yeah, I wonder if there's anything that we can do to like give the subscribers like if there's like a contest or something

[00:01:09] Yeah, like an ASMR sex thing or Fondle them. No, that's literally illegal. Hey with consent Hey, do you want to listen to me eat soup off a butt? What are you doing? What are you what are you into?

[00:01:25] What are you into? I'm not into I'm just doing it to get Listen to my very easily very quickly. I tried to think of I tried to think of food and something sexual and soup and

[00:01:33] It was like it was like playing like rolling it came up so easily for you. That's what I'm a little worried about I don't know. Well, they say that about Brad. He's all soup to butts. Yep. He comes easily

[00:01:43] Well, hey, if you didn't know it's a movie podcast where we talk about the latest movies we've seen So we talked about some trailers. We sometimes play a movie game. I wrote one today. So we've got one soup to butts It's gonna be in my book A memoir

[00:02:00] And at the end Finn But it'll be a picture of your son Finn Two thumbs up two thumbs down What's the frame rate that's what he'd asked what's the frame around Brad's life? It's a book. I don't know. I've never read

[00:02:19] So Brad as we always do it this is this is a holiday time of year you bet it is it's Christmas time Yeah, we're getting right into Christmas Thanksgiving is over We stuffed the turkey and we ate it all and now we're ready for Christmas

[00:02:32] That's a weird way to say it, but okay sure Do you have a Christmas theme sponsor? I mean, I don't know. I don't want to say like it's Inherently Christmas themed, but it is a seasonal treat. Is it Hanukkah that just came out

[00:02:45] It is not Hanukkah theme. Is it the McRib? It is not the McRib, but damn that would be a great idea to bridge Do you guys like McRibs? I do. I think they're fine. I like them. I don't think they're great

[00:02:54] I mean, okay, they're fine. I don't ever get excited when it comes back lab grown every now and then I'll try it I'll get them, you know like they just basically just dump me in a cookie tray that's shaped like ribs. I do I run into the room

[00:03:04] I'm like Ben fucking love No, but this is a limited edition McCard seasonal treat, you know, they put Christmas decorations on the bag So it is a Christmas tree a little bit, you know, so what would make it not a Christmas thing?

[00:03:23] Yeah, if there's Christmas things on the bag didn't have Christmas themed things on the bag What does that have Christmas theme it does? But the flavor is not one that you would think of as like oh, that's a Christmas flavor

[00:03:35] So you walk into Jiffy lube December 14th and they're hanging Christmas lights up You're like Jiffy Loub isn't or inherently Christmasy who's getting snacked Jiffy Loub You seem to be like it's just decorated for the holidays. Yeah has nothing to do with Christmas though, right?

[00:03:48] Oh, yeah, what this is they do this year round this flavor is a year round flavor No, so this so that's the thing is my god Well, this we're getting into the the nuance of the snack world is that this is a new flavor

[00:03:59] But the flavor itself won't make you think of Christmas because it's not a flavor that only comes around at Christmas Like it's not like a peppermint flavor or like a sugar cookie flavor or something like that This turns out to be like noel themed or like eggnog

[00:04:12] Is it egg? No, that'd be really good So this is a new Worther's original chewy caramel 90 and it's cookie butter cream So it's a chewy caramel and it's got a cookie butter cream filling. So Nate here you go

[00:04:29] It's not a word it's not a sucker worthers though like you're not gonna suck on oh, it's a hard candy No, no, it's not it's not a hard candy. That's what I'm saying. It's not given as hard candy

[00:04:37] No, this is at that stage of life. I mean I'm old no No, this is a chewy caramel. Yeah, so this is the kind that all people will get stuck in their teeth

[00:04:44] Old people and me yeah, and that's why we don't give them to old people this is this is for the youngsters I can't confuse them with a strong teeth. You don't want there's we don't want no dentures chewing on these caramel

[00:04:52] So there's like a there's like something in the middle. Yeah a cookie butter cream. Oh, it's like a toffee. Mm-hmm It's caramel. It's like coffee where there's a caramel, but why isn't it just caramel because there's two a's in it

[00:05:08] No, it's stuck in my my teeth as well. It should be that's how you know it's good That's the sign of a quality caramel my friend if you're getting stuck in your tooth

[00:05:16] You know what I was gonna say when you said that there's two isn't it? I was like well, it's not Aaron. Oh shit Hey, Aaron. Yeah All right, it's fine. It's fine It's not What do you look at you're looking me like well respond

[00:05:36] But it's another flavor that's not needed in the palette of flavors that exists right now I don't know what that means like you know what it insists upon it What why do we need that flavor? Why do you any flavor because flavors are good

[00:05:49] But this is this doesn't add to anything and been joined that it just exists I mean it is an existing people have described my friendship like that Just kind of there I like cookie butter as a flavor

[00:06:02] Do you know we don't want him to not come but like if you didn't if we forgot to invite him like that's okay, too We're not sad about it. Yeah, but if he's there it's fine. It adds nothing. So you guys don't like cookie butter as a flavor

[00:06:12] Not really I don't know what yeah You know those biscoff cookies. I mean I've heard of them Biscoffs or you know speculoos no It's got your Todd's biscoff is a brand speculoos is the flavor and so like it say it's a certain kind of cookie

[00:06:34] Hey, maybe have the more staffs More those those have like just the perfect mix of marshmallow and peanut butter Top-notch love it from old England. You're like the aerial. Oh wait You can suck on those for hours The melt in your mouth

[00:06:51] No, but I like cookie butter. I like biscoff cookies. It's like that's those are the cookies that you always get like when you're on the plane Yeah, okay, Brad, you don't like this

[00:06:59] They're like I don't like the flavorless piss. I do not like anything that is a vanilla style cookie or vanilla style biscuits It's not vanilla though that well anything that is like yellow and it's not yellow either

[00:07:10] That's brown. Do you like the cookies that come in the tins with the no, I don't really why I think they're too plain No, I like those yeah, you're all reason. I know no

[00:07:18] I know why don't you love these caramel's because they're just they don't add anything. I like these caramels You like caramels? No, no caramels. They're caramels. Yes. They are it says right on the bag Caramels holiday caramels My name is Brad for a minute You had a caramel

[00:07:42] I'm gonna love smelling farts after I've had egg salad sandwich Yeah, love your own brand I do like egg salad. Do you like egg salad? I fucking love egg salad I souped a butt Brad over here talking about egg salad

[00:07:55] Egg salad, deviled eggs. I will fucking eat that shit up and I will fart up a storm for days Cool You guys have deviled eggs on Thanksgiving. No, I would say those for Christmas, buddy only on Christmas

[00:08:06] No, I mean, why are you limit yourself? Why are you learn we just don't have them at Thanksgiving? Do you like cranberry sauce? Yeah, do you like cranberry sauce in the can no? Oh, that's my favorite

[00:08:15] Mm-hmm. I wanted to have like a pair. I want to have the shape of the cans though. I get it the ridges Yeah, I like that. I like to make Thanksgiving Thanksgiving sliders. Do you like to make Thanksgiving sliders? No, what is that?

[00:08:25] You take take turkey and stuffing and cranberry sauce and gravy and you make it have a sandwich We didn't have any we don't usually have stuffing What the fuck is wrong with you allowed into the microphone?

[00:08:37] You you know, what do you put in your turkey? It is like the number one thing that I know Don't usually have to stop in no in our family. What do you put anything in your turkey?

[00:08:47] I mean, I don't think you have to put anything that they think the turkey can cook without Like why wouldn't you like utilize that space to make delicious stuffing? We just don't wait. We don't we have mac and cheese That's a Christmas dish. No

[00:09:03] You watch your mouth sir, I just blacked out this movie podcast Brad What's the last will so thank you the Werther's original for sponsoring? Yeah, it's they were spreading your cookie butter all over our mouth good Lord. Yeah, so that's something you shouldn't try

[00:09:16] No, you can try it. It's delicious. Brad. What's the last movie somebody? We didn't assign anything this week. Yeah, we were Going on he probably wasn't gonna watch his anyway I watched the one from last week well

[00:09:28] That's the problem is you in the wash one from this week probably then because you've been too busy for farting around Farting exhaled sandwiches. Yeah not eating stuff and that's for sure No, I'm doing low carb so I don't have a lot of farts good for you

[00:09:39] You look great buddy. Thank you. I feel like the vegetable should be giving you far Just get your tummy checked buddy. Yeah, I only like meat and cheese. Yeah, and you should be farting Or you should like not be farting at all

[00:09:55] Meat and cheese that I fart once a quarter Hey, I just had my May fart. I gotta take the day off I mean a quarter comes out when you fart I Did a double feature today at the old movie theater. I went to go see Napoleon

[00:10:13] And next goal wins okay back to back That's why I put them together so Napoleon's getting a lot of crap right now because I feel like The crap that it's getting is because maybe people went into it not expecting the type of movie that it is

[00:10:31] It from what I understand from the online fodder is it's a little sillier Maybe or there's some comedy in there that didn't people didn't expect there's comedy There's some laughs in it

[00:10:42] But just because of like Napoleon how who he is as a character and like just the way dialogue this I think yeah So there was nothing in this movie that I thought was overly silly or felt out of place as far as the comedy

[00:10:54] It has just as many laughs in it as something like gladiator Which has some well-placed moments of levity, you know in it and this is a Ridley Scott movie You know and I'm one of those people too who doesn't necessarily know a lot about the real history

[00:11:07] So I'm not bothered by the lack of historical accuracy There might be in presenting Napoleon and especially when it comes to certain war strategies and things like that The movie was pretty much exactly what I expected, you know

[00:11:19] I have heard some complaints from people as far as pacing and I Can understand that that a little bit, you know It is it's around two and a half hours long And you do feel it in certain areas but for the most part I enjoyed it

[00:11:31] the one thing that I was kind of like frustrated by and it It's it takes a certain kind of movie to distract you from this and for some reason this one I don't know why but like it bothered me

[00:11:41] A lot of times when you have movies that are set in Europe and stuff like that And they do speak a different language like French or something like that They'll often just give people like vaguely, you know, British accents or something like that

[00:11:51] You know, they won't necessarily speak in the full Language which takes place and this is like that even though Napoleon is French takes place pretty much mostly in France No one is speaking French No one has French accents walking Phoenix isn't even putting on a British accent

[00:12:05] Just his normal voice really yeah, and so it's kind of odd like it take you out of it or no A little bit because like I would have even appreciated if he spoke with the same accent

[00:12:14] He had in gladiator, you know cuz like he puts something on in gladiator. He's not speaking with his normal American I didn't like him in gladiator You were supposed to yeah, I know that's okay. I thought he was villainous. Yeah, so he did a great job I

[00:12:28] Didn't like him don't like Tom Hiddleston But no, it's uh, it's it's just it's odd to hear it like just some of and that's I think that's part of where

[00:12:38] My complaint would be is that some of the lines he says don't sound as good because they're said with an American accent They would sound more powerful in a British accent or some other European accent in the trailer What is like let's go to war bro. Yeah

[00:12:51] Very much a walking Phoenix accent there But yeah, so I still liked it. I didn't love it You know, it's not one that I'll be keen to revisit necessarily. What do you think it excels at or like? What do you think it does well? the cinematography is great

[00:13:04] The the the battle sequences are just as good as you would expect to be from from really Scott The one that's previewed in the teaser though that takes with the lake and the ice and everything It's that's a great sequence

[00:13:16] There's another great battle sequence in there too is so like there's good stuff in it You know, I I liked it while I was watching it wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to sit and watch it again

[00:13:24] But it was I thought it was fine. Yeah, I don't think it's worth anyone going going crazy about our complaining bitching about It's not as bad because I have heard some crappy things about it. Honestly

[00:13:33] I don't I wouldn't crappy would not be the first word that would come to mind You didn't mind yeah, not at all and then I saw next go wins. Yeah, how do you like that one? I haven't honestly heard much about this film

[00:13:43] Yeah, no vain Bay scene in or not no that it's it's it's gotten very mixed reviews leaning towards the negative And some of it I think is just because people have a good sports people have gotten a little tired

[00:13:53] I think of taiko ytt shtick and this just does have his kind of trademark comedic spin on certain things and it just it does feel a little tired and Here for it though. You know, here's the thing. I thought I would be too But I

[00:14:08] I'd heard from some other people who I trust that who just like weren't impressed by and like we're really disappointed And because there are people like me who like taiko ytt stuff love love hunt for the wielder people

[00:14:18] You know like like who he is and that kind of thing But this just it just feels like it phoning it in a bit It's not that he's phoning it in a bit

[00:14:25] It just feels like it kind of misses the mark like it feels like a movie sports movie from the 90s But not in a great way. So is it just because he's not breaking new ground anymore I think that that's part of it

[00:14:37] But because because like even the stuff that was funny like I was only kind of like moderately chuckling at like there was never any moment Why was like laughing out loud riotously anything that means that I mean

[00:14:47] I'm wrong here, but that would mean that it was expected because obviously comedy that is unexpected is the stuff that really hits you Yeah, so you saw it coming. No, and I thought the trailer It's not even you see it coming

[00:14:56] It's just that the jokes aren't super clever like it's just it doesn't feel like it's a sharp as you know Hates I thought the trailer like it set up a playground for some really good potential for humor

[00:15:09] I agree. I agree and I'm a sucker for these kind of sports movies And I just kind of just I like honestly I felt well-manned by it like that's really just the best way to say it because it's not a super funny

[00:15:19] The sports stuff is it's very formulaic, which is fine But I don't ever feel like it earns the heart that it feels like it has you know It insists upon itself

[00:15:29] And it's just like Michael fastbender is very good and he plays the role. I've heard he can act he plays the role Okay, very Genuinely, but it doesn't necessarily work as well for the comedy in the same way that like when Adam driver and Ryan Gosling do things

[00:15:45] That are funny even though they're not trying to be funny Right it doesn't entirely work and it's not because fastbender is bad It just doesn't fit the vibe of them the movie overall

[00:15:54] Like it would have been better if they had somebody who was more comedically inclined in the role. That's an interesting point Adam driver Can be on SNL and crush it by playing very serious Yeah, I don't feel that Michael fastbender could do this

[00:16:08] Yeah, and again, it's the way he responds to stuff is very It's exactly what it would be in that moment and for that character and the way he reacts and like responds to things That are out of order that he's confused by it's supposed to be funny

[00:16:21] It just doesn't feel funny coming from Michael fastbender and it's not really his fault because he's playing it exactly like he should It's just that like the material isn't really as funny as sometimes sometimes they're just cash wrong, right?

[00:16:32] Yeah, there are some people that play that role seriously and still make it. Yeah And I just like I felt like there was a lack of chemistry with the with the team They didn't do enough to like build up certain

[00:16:43] members of the team and like there's also like a side story With like involving like him and his ex-wife who's played by Elizabeth Moss and

[00:16:52] It just feels kind of kind of weird and like part of that in a way like what without saying too much like part of it becomes An emotional core for Michael fastbender's character and like you find out why eventually but it's just yeah

[00:17:04] I was really just kind of surprised with how it landed because it has all these hallmarks that I should Like and I just really didn't fall in love with this movie or the replacements replacements, okay? Yeah, and that's that's not an amazing

[00:17:20] No, and they're but yeah, but that's a fun. The replacements knows what it is Yeah, and and and honestly like yeah, I just I think that Yeah, oh wow, that's I mean this movie or Rudy

[00:17:34] This movie or the remake of the longest yard. Oh, that's a good question But yeah, so yeah, it's this movie right? I would I was just disappointed You know it is which one longest year

[00:17:54] But yeah, so yeah, I just I was too bad I really enjoyed this trailer and we reviewed it on an episode and I was really excited about that Yeah, it's disappointing. I was disappointed. I was that everything you watch

[00:18:04] I'm sure you've seen more I nothing nothing new honestly I I watched it's a wonderful life because that's just what you do is it so good still yeah

[00:18:12] It is just so freaking and I hadn't seen it's a wonderful life and for the first time until like a few years ago You know really as well as movies where like I always knew its legacy and understood what it was about

[00:18:22] And I knew like the key scenes and like it was always on the day after Thanksgiving and no let's have Or or Thanksgiving rather. I'm still every time I watch it. I'm still blown away. How beautiful it shot

[00:18:32] How it's just Frank it is just such a good film. Yeah, it's uh, yeah It's a classic and it's classic for reasons when have you watched it? Yeah, I always root for Potter and he never he never wins though. That's true one day one day old man Potter

[00:18:46] I mean him he wakes up and he's in Potter's villa. I'm like good I mean finally the guy that deserved to win wins because you gotta be shrewd. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm who the fuck just leaves oh

[00:18:56] Uncle Eddie or whatever leaves five grand the whole deposit just like is it Eddie? Uncle Ernie, I don't know. I don't think it's Eddie Like that's like fucking idiot Costs is he's like you dumb son of a bitch who cost a man his life

[00:19:13] He he tried to kill himself because what you did to him. Yeah, it's the moral here, but he wants to live again Good. Oh do that again. That was good. Hi. Well, let's invest your pot

[00:19:22] Oh, yeah, we gotta do something about this uncle Billy. How much do you think you're through the weekend? I'll about the 20 dollars So yeah, I went to go see no, sorry, it's of course. It's a classic

[00:19:34] Introduced to it a few years ago actually same same thing in 2016. I think first I cry every time I love it so much. It is one of my favorite films. Yeah, it's very good

[00:19:41] Very great fantastic. Love it. I watched the elf again. I went to go see it at a special event They have over in Chicago at the auditorium theater They did elf in concert this year's the 20th anniversary

[00:19:53] And so they had a that that show they do where they play the movie and they have the orchestra Yeah I need to go to one of those because I know you love them and there's so much fun

[00:20:01] Yeah, they are awesome. Who'd you go with? I went with my mom. Oh nice took my mom had two tickets I cry at elf every time to do you know what you see I cry is there movie you don't cry

[00:20:12] No, but do you what scene do you think it is that I cry enough? No, no Is it the scene where buddy gets yelled at nope, it's the scene where at the end

[00:20:26] Santa's sleigh starts flying and he waves goodbye to the family that he's yearned for that he wants so badly Yeah, and they finally accepted him and he has to go and he's waving goodbye. I cried that

[00:20:38] You guys should have a heart sometime I do I don't I just don't relate to buddy the elf There is most movies I do cry at least once but yeah, you know it was a great buddy

[00:20:50] I love you so much. It was a great experience. It's at these events It's always amazing to hear the orchestra play and just sound absolutely perfect Just the timing and the sound like it was it like the Chicago Philharmonic or I forget which orchestra was actually

[00:21:04] I'm sure there's multiple Chicago Symphony Orchestra, right? Well, they but there are I mean There's several you know, it's a Chicago but obviously because of Chicago It's full of some of the best musicians, you know ever

[00:21:13] But yeah, they're just so perfectly in sync and like the sound sounds exactly like the soundtrack It's it's do they do that? Do-do-do-do-do-do So I was so one thing I was curious about is I don't know they didn't have a choir there Yeah, I think that there's probably

[00:21:30] Part of it where the vocal stuff maybe is like a pre-record but they're obviously doing all the instruments. That's cool So I love that move, but yeah, it's it was fantastic It was really good to the ages well like that film ages

[00:21:42] The one that the other Christmas one that I would still like to see that I haven't yet I'm sure is gonna be amazing when finally do is they do home alone at the Chicago theater every year

[00:21:50] And the home alone score is just tremendous and so I would love to hear that live Is there a Christmas classic that has gone into the American lexicon since elf? I Don't think so honestly not not like on that level anyway. That's like the last yeah

[00:22:13] contemporary classic yeah What about you Ben do you think office Christmas party bad mom's Christmas? That's a good point. Yeah, it's one for the whole family to I think the night before probably the night before I like that movie Yeah, yeah elf to

[00:22:31] It's too late. You can't make an elf tool half the cast is dead I mean, that's a good point Joey's actually all got a train ax. I was who else other than James got his dead at Esner. Oh

[00:22:43] Yeah, that's like an essential part. Hey Bob Newhart's still alive. That is Yeah, but he isn't I thought he died he's 117 he is very old Are you sure he's not dead? He's not dead. Are you sure? I'm not sure but I'm just saying might have died

[00:22:59] I don't feel like he died recently, but he didn't he is there. Yeah 94 years old probably not in acting shape I'm pretty sure he has it's still me. I'm gonna look right now I'm looking at his Wikipedia and

[00:23:12] Because he was only 74 20 years ago the last he looked 94 20 years the last thing he did was in 2011 He had a cameo and sound of freedom horrible bosses. I think he's still doing live like appearances though

[00:23:26] Okay, maybe I'm pretty sure he appeared at a ward show not too long He was in three episodes of young Sheldon and that's a somewhat recent show. Yeah, that's true So the weird part he was playing young But I do love I love Bob

[00:23:43] So Jim he's a gem dry. He's a mensch. He's a real man. Yes. Yeah, that's what I've heard That was the last movie you saw So I I'm 80% through you know, I love when you talk about movies You watch movies in little increments you are a quibby movie

[00:24:03] I have to be these days. I run around you don't have to be you didn't do any running around today You you were at home and you answered phone. You're literally sitting on this studio right now with your underwear on

[00:24:13] I had I had I had a couple hours to watch it And so I did and then I got some phone calls from some work stuff And I'd handle it and so that those those pauses took up I have literally without the credits

[00:24:24] I've probably got about 16 minutes left in this in this movie tonight, which movies So today I watched the killer with Michael fast pender it's a David Fincher on Netflix and

[00:24:36] So far I really like it. I'll see what happens. Oh, it's new. Yeah, just came out. I don't think I've heard of this Yeah, I just came out. Is any good? I really like it so far. I've heard good things. Oh Tilda Swinton. She scares me

[00:24:47] She's very intimidating Singular story of it follows directly Michael fast pender's character of a contract killer and his inner monologue the entire time so there's There's this hardly any interaction between him and other people

[00:25:03] It's just a lot of him talking through how you can be successful as a contract killer and what you have to remember In order to do so and it's very methodical

[00:25:12] And it's very it's but it's very well done. And of course Fincher always knows how to score a film Fincher scores are incredible. So Just it's almost like the the score becomes sound effects. Well, I guess Ross

[00:25:26] Trenton right now. That's just Ross which are they're just they've won awards, right? Really is so good. So that's very So yeah, so that's really good. I'm sure that I'm gonna like the last it's getting great reviews

[00:25:38] I've not even heard of this film and it's getting it. I'm looking forward to seeing it now There you go. That's what what's the other one then? I'm probably about 75% through Retribution why didn't you finish one before you started the other?

[00:25:50] Okay, cuz I forgot that I was watching retribution and retribution's only an hour and a half You could have finished it for God. Jesus. Oh, that's that's the one we watched the trailer for this with Liam Neeson

[00:25:59] Yeah, I talked about it. Yeah, you saw it right? Yeah, it's fine. It was you said it was a little better than fine You said it was is better than I said it's better than I expected. It's it's fine. It's a perfectly serviceable action thriller

[00:26:10] It's fine. I'm surprised you didn't like it. It's it's a way hasn't finished it yet If there's a huge ending scene that It only has like a 29% rotten tomato, so it's not it but those 29% really liked it That's just 29% just barely said it's fine. Yeah, it's fine

[00:26:31] How about you buddy? What'd you watch this week? I've watched a couple things Firstly I watched Jeannie. Oh, it's the new Christmas movie with McCarthy McCarthy Yeah, I watch that as our listeners know I'm a big Christmas movie fan So it's it's I am biased towards Christmas films

[00:26:48] I will like a Christmas film that isn't very good, right and I actually like Melissa McCarthy I know a lot of people don't but I do I think she's funny

[00:26:58] Some of the roles that she's done. I just love there's been some that aren't great, but she's very talented I didn't love this film and it wasn't because of Melissa McCarthy. She she did fine. It just didn't have a

[00:27:11] Great script there wasn't a lot to do with it Is it more of a straight-up comedy or is it like a drama with some laughs? Or is it more like it's not a drama. It's she's a genie And she's making it's it's hallmarky honestly

[00:27:26] Yeah, I was gonna say that I was is it more of a home? Yeah, and so so essentially the the main Protagonist loses his family because of his work, you know, it's almost like a Scrooge thing

[00:27:37] His boss wants him to work hard and so he's he's torn between working too much and then his family You know feeling abandoned He comes home and it's his daughter's birthday and he forgets to get our present and then his wife and his

[00:27:48] Daughter-leave and then at that time he's sad and he rubs this this this box they have and there's the genie No one has ever thought to rub the box before yeah apparently yeah, there's a couple things like that where I'm like this I

[00:28:02] Melissa McCarthy does what she can do in this role. She's not the problem in this it's just not a What bothers me too is there was something to be done in this film that you could have done that was I think a little more heartwarming

[00:28:13] Yeah, a little more creative. They just didn't do it. It was just a little bit too paint by numbers And I didn't love it. It's not a film that I would put my legs gone Christmas like you're not gonna rewatch it next year. Nope. It's not like

[00:28:27] Spirited that was on Apple TV, which I've watched already again this year, which I love The other one was I watched with my son Harrison Thanksgiving night Disney's the naughty nine it is a children's film the naughty nine. Yeah, the fuck is

[00:28:48] So I would love to watch a Christmas version of that so Did you see a 8-bit Christmas? Yeah, I love it. Yeah So the one of the kids in that is in stars in this film and I saw I saw 80% 8-bit Christmas is great

[00:29:03] I really like that film but this is about kids that aren't dead that get put on the naughty list and They essentially it's it's like a little kid heist movie. It was fun It's not great, but is anybody of note in it

[00:29:18] No, Danny Glover is Santa Claus. Well, that's somebody of yeah, I mean but like Wow, like yeah, but that but that also just established for me what kind of movies Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah best kind the kind with Danny freaking

[00:29:31] Glover it is a made for me my son enjoyed watching and they have it in the background a joke Did he say where he is old at the mall? Maybe and he's I'm getting too old for this sit. No, no none of that. No because he's real Santa

[00:29:46] He's not like a buddy still has to sit and listen to no he doesn't go real Santa doesn't go to the malls That's never puts kids on his helpers go to the mall. He doesn't They do they say the line or not they don't

[00:30:00] They've really missed out on opportunity there. Yeah, he's never definitely done that for laughs Finally I watched a film. This is not a Christmas film. It is a Film that was made and released on June 7th 1996 So welcome Nate called the rock a film directed by Michael Bay

[00:30:20] That's sir Michael Bay. Yeah, he puts respect on that man starring Sean Connery on Connery Winters go home and fuck the prom queen Nicholas Cage Ed Harris not bad And a bunch of people that you would know from different bit roles. I texted these guys earlier

[00:30:36] I said John Spencer's in this he was also in the negotiator, which I think Brad gave me John Spencer is in one of my favorite shows ever called the West Wing He's a watch the first episode of that the other day West Wing. It is

[00:30:48] such a great show And there's other David Morse. Do you guys know David Morris? Yeah, of course. Yeah, I mean he's just been in so many Of course, I don't yeah, I think he was in What was the one Tom Hanks no Tom Hanks in that too

[00:31:05] The green mouth. He's in the green mouth. Yeah, that's true He's in any movie that you need a dirty cop that gets caught and has to turn on His fellow cops he will be that guy that turns reluctantly

[00:31:17] And so this film was so much fun. It is two hours and 20 minutes It is a watch it is longer than you think it is I don't I honestly don't think that you don't mind it doesn't really drag

[00:31:27] Yeah, you know you don't feel it as I was watching this film Nicholas Cage is such a weird personality I Know it's just it When you watch it's like who else can be Nicholas Cage who today we talk about this sometimes on the show

[00:31:41] Like who today could play Nicholas Cage type of roles that is under let's say 35 or under 40 even Who do you think could you compare to Nicholas Cage today? Cuz this role because he's crazy But also he's a doctor Yeah, he's just an eclectic

[00:31:59] Nerd but also can pull off like he's gonna fight for his family a little bit and like he delivers some lines so weirdly like you know It's just but he's not bad at all. It's just it's so weird

[00:32:10] Who do you think could play Nicholas Cage type of roles today? What is a young actor that you think could do those Ryan Gosling? I just feel like Ryan Gosling is better looking. Yeah, I mean Ryan Ryan Doesn't have the same eccentric look that Nicholas Cage

[00:32:26] I don't know that Hollywood allows for people that are just not 11s anymore though, right? Like Nicholas Cage doesn't really exist anymore because like he's a seven in Hollywood. Maybe a six Yeah, and Vanessa Marcel who is his baby?

[00:32:42] And this is way better looking than him Jesse Plemons Sure, that is it not a bad one. Yeah, because I don't think Nicholas Cage the way he delivers like all day Oh, there you go They know could play the the role of him in this movie

[00:32:55] But do you think Nicholas Cage is purposely delivering lines the way he does or do you think that's just kind of Him it's like Matthew Yeah, it's kind of like Matthew McConaughey when he delivers lines. I'm like, yeah, that's just kind of what it's a choice

[00:33:08] But it's a choice to be Nicholas Cage Like he's choosing to be him. He's not choosing to play a role It's so I think Jesse Plemons is probably a better actor as a whole

[00:33:23] He is but Cage though like what there's a line in there where he's like, you know, he doesn't he doesn't say asshole He goes Doing this is so weird. Have you you've seen the unbearable weight of massive talent. Oh, yes

[00:33:37] I have that's fantastic. No, and I have no problem with Nicholas Cage. I actually like Nicholas Cage He's great in this. It's just he's so Unique did you want you've seen Conair?

[00:33:46] I have okay Conair because these came out back to back. Yeah, and then faceoff was right before this I'm actually a little surprised. I haven't seen this because this this film is a type of action film I really love

[00:33:57] I love this I would watch this again in Harvey So it hasn't seen in a while. I need to rewatch it. It is fun You know it what's interesting as well is like you've got The villains are this is so 90s the villains are villains with

[00:34:15] Altruism right there is a spirit behind them that you can side with and so You they make them the villains, but they're not because isn't David Morris the guy that like says general We're not gonna do this. Isn't he the one that pushes back on it Harris

[00:34:28] Well, no, Ed Harris is the one that is like oh sorry He wants to do it and Harris is the one that Harris is like no this was we're not we're not doing we bluffed They were trying to get them to pay for the so

[00:34:39] But I'm not a film if you have not seen this film the stuff for this film is Ed Harris plays a general that is as I think lost his wife and he's kind of on this and it's kind of a suicide mission where

[00:34:52] He's given everything for his country He's given everything for his country and he's upset because people have died in the the line of battle or in the line of duty here and

[00:35:03] They have not their government has not provided for their families. They've not you know, so it's this kind of like altruistic thing Right and so for him I will my last act of You know heroism is I'm going to make sure that the government

[00:35:21] Protects these these families because they they're their people or their loved ones paid the ultimate price and and honestly John Spencer is the head of I think the CIA FBI or something like this They don't really come off as the heroes. No, no, they are

[00:35:38] They're there they're actually the real villains of this film. Yeah, or the government where it's like, hey Yeah, that is kind of fucked up, right exactly

[00:35:46] so the we've talked about this at length with the MCU and and the problem or not problem with certain comic movies if you have a believable and Not necessarily altruistic, but you understand why the villain is doing what they're doing the movies

[00:36:00] Yeah, I've shared this before but my daughter after we saw you know Avengers I forget when it was but where the snap happens and my daughter's like I kind of get it

[00:36:13] Everyone I mean it is a you know, he even said people won't feel it. There'll be no pain, right? Like you know, so it's like the idea where it it introduces you into this ethical paradigm of

[00:36:26] Is it altogether bad of what they're doing? But certainly, you know, this is the this is the age-old does the Does the ends justify the means exactly? So now especially when you know that Ed Harris's character doesn't they're threatening essentially some kind of like terrorism that will

[00:36:48] What what is the it's a chemical chemical? Yeah, terrorism. They're anal beads. Yep So there is a chemical mixture and these little glass Bead that are about the size of a little bit bigger golf balls full of green gas

[00:37:02] That that Nicholas Cage's character knows intimately. Yeah, it's what he does for the He's a counterterrorism so But but the problem is that they this general decides to take over Alcatraz the prison island and

[00:37:15] Sean Connery is a person that has escaped from Alcatraz last known or only known person to ever have actually officially escape Who is a former mi6 agent great by the way great premise great premise, right?

[00:37:26] Let's get the old guy that was the last one to escape bring him out of retirement quote-a-quote out of prison Did they ever really maybe I missed it

[00:37:33] Maybe when I went to the bathroom or something but did they ever really don't pause the movie to go to the bathroom I know because it's you know, it's what is from wait. Yeah, wait hold on we can't brush past this What the fuck you're at home?

[00:37:44] Pause the movie man Yes Because you're like you know you've never seen it for yeah You know I'm gonna know night. It's two hours to a man. You've seen the movie before that's fine We gotta keep this train going of course we've got to keep this train

[00:38:01] Hey, I will I will not be lectured by somebody that watches movies in 15 minute increments Okay, but you will listen to me because that's not what I do and you pause movies when it's a first time watching you

[00:38:13] Because you have the ability to do so you've been doing enough movies with me. You know, I have to pee a lot Yeah, you pause the movie though when you're at home. I'm not gonna pause that many times This is I won't do it

[00:38:22] Let me let me ask you a follow-up. Mm-hmm. Yeah, how often and be honest I won't get bad. How often do you look at your phone during a movie? Not that often but I usually have my computer going What are you doing?

[00:38:37] Usually on Wikipedia looking at the actors and like I want to know more about the Production and because I have a question about this thing or you don't pause it while you're doing that. No Yes, I know would you just watch the movie like yes

[00:38:51] 94 because that because then you're soaking up everything later on you really I didn't really get that why they did that It was a little lackluster for me that could have they could really expound it upon that

[00:39:00] They fucking did but you were looking at the production design of what did they really be like a church? I just want to know or just like what other actors did they have in John Spencer's role that they were thinking about

[00:39:09] Don't you wonder that sometimes when you watch a film? Yeah, but I pause it when I look that stuff Oh, no, no, you gotta keep the thing going. You got we got stuff to do. We got we got things to do

[00:39:17] So ladies so sorry Nate does not watch movies. Don't don't don't lecture me sir Alright, I might watch I might watch movies No, you do not you are you are you just said you're 75% You will not you will not you will not I will not be like Brad

[00:39:37] That's fine. You I will not the whole time though I will not stand here and tolerate you're sitting what you are saying right now because it is malarkey Brad have I back here? No, no, I Don't I don't like to say this Ben's right

[00:39:54] You're siding with this we're we're recording right now, right? You gotta you gotta just watch movies Sometimes that's all that's all that's not the point Yeah, why do I pause because you can you should

[00:40:15] My VCR doesn't have a buzz button. He just said VCR now. I don't know. I'm pretty sure he's joking But I'm also worried in speech and debate. What's he doing with the thing is it's not a straw man But he's like saying like I

[00:40:27] Have to I know he's not I said you're not stalling what's other than there's another term in speech debate when like It's a false economy It's it's you're not the fact is that you're the P has one. Yeah, I don't have a positive button

[00:40:40] That's not that's not remotely true It was on TV that is that right? I had the time It's Thanksgiving, you know what that means 24 hours of the rock Frickin If you're listening do that cuz I swear to Christ, I will watch

[00:41:03] Yeah, do not for the July pissing is gonna go on the frickin title Nate doesn't watch movies I had to pee I had to pee oh my gosh. Okay. Well, so you watch the rock and you love it. It was like

[00:41:19] Now I know you're lying now. I know you didn't watch it. So this Con air face off rank him See I'd have to go back and rewatch some because I have not watched I loved Con air when it came out I loved the answer face off

[00:41:37] I'm not a Travolta fan I mean you don't have to be a Travolta fan to appreciate how great he is To me it's it's the it's the rock face off and then Con air. Oh really to me

[00:41:47] Oh, see I would say the rock cuz I really really like the rock because of Con air than face off I'm sure Connery is great. He's wrong. He's epic, but man like face off is just the action is better. It's buckwild

[00:41:58] Yeah, it's fine and cage is unhinged and all introvolta doing cage is awesome I will say that is true It's tremendous. I need to go back and watch it cuz I loved face off when it came off

[00:42:08] But I have not seen it in years. It's bombastic. Yeah silly and everything But I do remember them thinking like oh wow they actually sound just like each other and it is great I just for me what I think it's probably the nostalgia of you know

[00:42:20] There was only a year difference between face off and the rock But that was when I turned 14 to 15. Yeah, that truly like I I became a like a teenager

[00:42:30] When the rock came I remember watching that movie and be like I want to say the world like you feel Yeah, I liked I was probably just slightly too young to get I kind of like the emotional element of Iraq too

[00:42:40] Like they're there it kind of introduces some characters that have some layers there as well I like that. Michael Bay does a great job. I'm gonna hate to say that I know you love the Transformers movie. Oh, yeah, not the first one, but everything after

[00:42:54] Same thing with Pirates of the Caribbean the first garbage everything was better. She's got bad opinions You know what and also I start in reverse order with the Bourne movies legacy is Pretty great, but not as good as Jason. Oh my

[00:43:10] This is fun I can do this all day. Oh my goodness. Yeah, how do you feel about them doing another Bourne movie? They're not really. Yeah They don't know who's doing it. They're still right. They're still writing the script

[00:43:21] They just want to do another one with Matt Damon. They're hoping but they have to give him the script first So we'll see but they did they're they're working on a new I mean how old is Like yeah, how old is man 50 something yeah early 50s

[00:43:38] so he also said in on smart list that he would he quote-quote would never do another born because Did you listen to that episode? No, so in the podcast we listen to smart list with Sean Hayes and Will Arnett and Jason Bateman

[00:43:51] They had Matt Damon on he was talking about how You know it was so hard to be in that good a shape Yeah, and he can't do that anymore. Yeah, he was like I wouldn't want to do a disservice to the I mean

[00:44:02] I would love to see it if they did like old man Jason. Oh, absolutely. That would be awesome But but yeah, I mean who knows what will happen with the script or did you break this is gonna sound like a really a

[00:44:12] Strange segue. Did you ever watch 2006 is Rocky Balboa? No, so I really like that film. I'm not I'm not joking. I think it's great No, I've heard it's good because it's a it does the thing that you're talking about where it takes a character

[00:44:25] You've known for your whole life. Yeah, and it ages him and honestly It's unbelievable of course because he's playing a 54 55 year old guy. Yeah, and he still is a shredded You know, he looks amazing

[00:44:38] They wouldn't necessarily have to do that but as long as he's in some semblance of like old man shape Yeah, exactly. That's what they need to do it But that movie is a great example of how it could be done. Yeah, I'd be I'd be fine with that

[00:44:48] And then Sylvester Stallone should be in it and they should fight Mm-hmm moving on Nate looks like he's deep in thought I'm reading the facts about our

[00:45:05] No, Jason Bourne I look like the most recent film that they're talking about is gonna be directed by Edward Burger. Is that right? What? Did they announce a filmmaker with the news what the story literally just broke like last week

[00:45:21] Yeah, so according to are you on are you on film junkie the Hollywood reporter and deadline Edward Burger will serve Yeah, he is the same one that directed all quiet on the Western Front. Oh, that's right I do remember that now. Yeah, I forgot that they said that

[00:45:39] He likes all quiet on the Western Front didn't reinvent the wheel, but it was very good Is a new one coming out with did reinvent it was called remake what's what what is this film called conclave? Do you know what that is? It's got Ralph Machu oh

[00:45:53] Sorry, Ray Fientons Nope Cardinal Lore Lore Nelly task with finding the successor of the deceased Pope discovers the former Pope had a secret that must be Uncovered that's the new plot of the board movie. No, that's the conclave sounds good of the new Stanley Choo-Chee

[00:46:22] So Stanley Choo-Chee Ray fine. Yep, there you go. Okay John Lithgow all play Cardinals I've never even heard of this film. It's an animated movie about birds. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, this is the three popes the three popes

[00:46:37] What's all my loving that's a joke heard of that one two popes. I got you you didn't laugh I thought it was nice to acknowledge. I'm saying yeah, it wasn't those things were like it made me laugh

[00:46:46] I was like that's amusing good for you. You said it. Yeah I'm saying good job. It's just good for you. I'm happy for you say that now, but I'm always so glad to ask

[00:46:54] I'm proud of you. You know, I just you make choices in life and we support your choices Yeah, I like that sometimes you just go for it and I appreciate that about you. I like that you I like that you try

[00:47:03] But it was the thing is I try to succeed is this podcast off a comment that you try and I like success is relative And I feel like you succeeded at making a joke whether or not the joke was very funny

[00:47:16] Because there's three famous actors playing cardinals and it's a and then so it could be called the three popes And it was pretty fast and I came over pretty quickly and sure It also doesn't have sound logic because they're they're cardinals, but it could be

[00:47:31] Cardinals can become popes not at the same time How are there two popes in the other one? See I did it. Hey It was okay Uh, well we also watched uh, what are you doing some trailers? Yes. There's some new movies

[00:47:51] I did the last one. I wrote the game under the game song actually didn't ben do the last one. No, I did No, no, I did no because alex pappas was on and I I sang yeah

[00:48:01] No, he did the oh brother were art that was no yes. No. Yeah, all right. And he did it unprompted Brett you haven't done one in a month go um first of all, I do one almost every fucking time Oh, we all know I always join in

[00:48:19] I have to do it alone and then anytime either one of you fucking chuckle fucks do it and are failing the other one And it just makes it sound great. I don't know like goddamn bass tone to it

[00:48:30] And now I look at the fucking asshole dying on a vine Wow Feelings about it should so do it listeners know that like you guys leave me to die and you have each other's backs I think Brad and I operate on a very similar

[00:48:45] Musician like wavelength. I've seen you're a pastor, but I will no no, but I've seen brad play the bells The christmas bells, um, that's true. I do play christmas bells

[00:48:55] And so like I think we just operate on a similar way. Yeah, we had we're like we're like music bros And like well, hey, me's rose take away. No you make choice. I don't know how to follow

[00:49:05] Yeah, like we're gonna make a three popes joke. We don't know what to do But we support that you you chose to make it. Yeah, I love your creative spirit Go ahead and spirit away. I don't want a lot for christmas There is just one thing I need

[00:49:22] I just want to watch some trailers with my friends Ben and Nate we're three I just like to watch some trailers. They're so much fun to see When I can see the movies coming Even if there's no christmas tree

[00:49:44] All right, good job guys, oh and it was right on key to you You could tell my favorite part was Nate starting off with like And they go Yeah, you know what see that's the thing is you got to feel it you got to go with it

[00:49:59] You know the one thing that we're all thinking listeners included is that you guys are definitely on the same thing Oh, so we watched some trailers for new movies that are coming out The first trailer we watched do you guys in your head whenever you get there?

[00:50:13] Do you think of ben's it's trailer time. It's train every time That's the song It's trailer time for me and you Trailer time Trailer time having fun with friends Trailer time with friends to the end See, it's great. See it comes to my head every time

[00:50:29] Um, so yeah, we watched the trailer funnily and now for a musical It's mean girls the musical Mean girls the musical Starting age-less Tina Fey She does that age And tim meadows still looks great too

[00:50:44] I mean he's a little gray or is it a gray? Oh, yeah, but still yeah handsome gentlemen So mean girls was originally adapted from a book But the movie was turned into a stage musical on broadway that was a popular one

[00:50:57] Yeah, very big hit and now that musical version of mean girls is being turned into a movie That brings the stage musical to the big screen Tina Fey is involved as a producer and writer again And she also reprises the same role as mrs. Norbury

[00:51:11] Or mrs. Norbury from the original movie and tim meadows is also back as the school's principal as well Um, but we otherwise we have a whole new cast playing the main characters in the movie Including who Nate It is uh, undre rice. Is that how you pronounce me?

[00:51:28] Renee rap who is Very popular amongst broadway. She's done a lot of broadway things But she's also on this secret life of the sex like college girls of college girls secret life of pets

[00:51:39] Uh, uh, Brad, you're gonna have to help me with this one because obviously I butcher every name but oly cravalo I'm not sure about that one. Uh, she was the voice of moana sexual production. Oh, yes, john ham

[00:51:51] And then yes, john ham is in this tim meadows jennifisher uh busy philips jennifisher is playing uh, katie's mom and busy philips is playing Um Amy pollers roll. Yes, busy philips. Is that Danny masterson's ex-wife?

[00:52:09] No, or yeah, yes ex-wife. Yes. Yeah. No, no, no, no, right? No, were they not together? I thought they were No, that's a different one. Is that a different busy? I thought her name was busy

[00:52:19] Biju is that her name bijou philips. That's a different person. Is it really? Yeah Sorry, and then there's bussy philips I don't I don't I don't think uh, this I don't think busy is related to them though

[00:52:35] Yeah, I think that you are correct. I think they're a separate philips family. How about bussy Is bussy? No, I think uh, Bijou is that right? Um, I don't even know if I've pronounced it. I say I've always said bayou bayou philips

[00:52:50] That's how I pronounce it but uh Is the daughter of john philips and uh, jennifeev Walt is which is name and parents now like Uh, perhaps you've heard of the mama's and the papa's I have oh, yeah. Yeah, that's that's her parents. Okay fair enough

[00:53:07] Well, we love to know things Um, you know what pause the movie. Let's look that up. Why pause it? Uh, but yeah, so what do you guys think about this trailer? Are you are you interested? Are you engaged to what have you seen or heard the musical soundtrack?

[00:53:21] Well, but You know, you know, I love a good musical. Yeah, of course If there's anybody in here who loves musicals it is definitely Nate So I am here for this. I don't know if it's going to provide enough differences from the film

[00:53:34] Other than there's going to be some fun numbers. Yeah, maybe some choreography. I'm gonna want to learn but um But I do love this and I'm I'm looking forward to it. I'll see it Yeah, so I I haven't heard any of the songs

[00:53:46] I don't know how good of an adaptation the musical is of the movie But based like the the look of it definitely and the style of comedy and stuff It does very much feel like they've used a lot of the movie to drive the musical, which is fine

[00:54:00] The one thing I always get annoyed with with trailers for musical movies Is it always seems like they're hiding the fact that it's a musical even though like you know, it's a musical So is that because in a trailer

[00:54:13] You can do a snippet of a song but they but you know that because it's a musical They're trying to draw you in to the non musical part of it so that you'd see that there's a movie too

[00:54:20] So that people that maybe don't love musicals would go. I'm sure that that's it But like I also from me like that at me Yeah, and like but for me like I want to hear what that music is going to sound like because I want to know

[00:54:32] Without having to go and listen to the soundtrack because I don't like when it comes to musicals That are being turned into movies I do not want to go and listen to the soundtrack before I see the movie

[00:54:41] I want to experience it for the first time in the movie when it when it comes to books that have been made into movies That have been made into musical stage plays that have been made into movies. I think you're wrong

[00:54:53] This was nominated for Tony Awards for best score best musical kind of things It was it did not win, but well it was nominated. No, well, sorry, but it was nominated quite a bit I don't even know what won that year

[00:55:07] But it was nominated for lots of things probably Hamilton. I will There's a good chance. I will say the yes that I want to see. No, actually the one that won was the band's visit

[00:55:17] I don't know if you I've heard of that, but I don't necessarily know what it's about Uh, will you see this in theaters then? I wish you would come to movies with me I'm okay. So

[00:55:27] Tina Fey though, I trust her right. I mean girl surprised me when it came out I remember loving it. Yeah without knowing shit about it. Just saw it randomly. Oh my god. This is hilarious

[00:55:36] I introduced us to a very funny person and Lindsay Lohan that you know that panned out really well too So he's low in Lindsay Lohan sure her as well. It's low hand

[00:55:44] Well, all three of them have great careers as the three popes. So it's good stuff. So anyway, I'll check this out I do wonder because I've not seen the musical. I wonder if there is any Changes in the adaption to the musical because I hope there is well

[00:55:59] I mean one of the things that like uh, and it's adaptation Um, I think that's a Nicholas Cage movie I think that uh, one of the things that isn't in the movie that wasn't that you could see in the trailer

[00:56:09] Is the one uh, one of the ways that they humiliate Regina George is by pigs blood Getting her like wet in the middle of what looks like homecoming and it makes like her

[00:56:21] Mascara run and then that's what turns into a cool look as opposed to the cutting the holes out on the shirts Where the boobs are and seeing like the the bra through and everyone starts doing that to their shirts in the school

[00:56:30] So they change change that up a little bit for the former You don't see the boobs Ben Joke He's talking about jugs. You know what honestly, let me take that back because I just realized I'm talking about like teenage girls So never buy that it doesn't work anymore

[00:56:45] anymore The changes that you've made in your life movies about boobs are fine or movies Jokes about boobs are fine Underage I love when an entire movie is about boobs. Yep. I like them in three to four minute increments

[00:57:09] Merry Christmas, that's really funny. Uh, see that's the kind of joke you gotta make The one that I get canceled for Oh, yeah We're like a for new host for next week's episode if you will

[00:57:22] Charlie young if you're listening can you come and just fill in for me forever Yeah, so I'm I'm curious about this but I I don't know if it's gonna be you won't go to the theater to see it No, I'll go to the theater to see it

[00:57:31] I you know because I I think seeing a musical especially is like great to see in a theater just for the sound of it All you know, I want I want to be immersed in a musical. Hey, I'll go with you. All right. Let's do it

[00:57:40] Let's hold hands. Uh, when does this come come out? Uh, january. I think january 2024 It's when the movie comes out. Okay. What's the other one we watched? It was a trailer for ted 3 We also watched a trailer for bloom houses imaginary. This is a new

[00:57:54] Didn't love it didn't love a movie Where a a woman returns to her childhood home where she apparently Abandoned her imaginary friend and now He's out for revenge her. I don't know if it's her daughter or her niece

[00:58:09] I think it's her daughter though. I didn't really couldn't really tell there was something there that was keeping me from Understanding what the connection. Yeah, so but so they're in this house and this girl finds this teddy bear

[00:58:18] That apparently used to belong to the the woman now who has returned to her home And she you know treats it like it's an imaginary friend and apparently it's imaginary friend has some things

[00:58:28] That it wants this little girl to do so that they can she can go visit where the imaginary friend is from kind of like toby from uh paranormal activity a little bit a little bit

[00:58:36] Yeah, and this is a scary movie uh from bloom house. So very much in the same vein So some scary shit happens and it looks very terrifying It's also from the producers of megan Meg 3n bloom house and so, uh

[00:58:49] Uh, sorry. I mean it does have that vibe right where it's it's very modern looking Yeah, they're not doing like anything grainy or weird. It's a very ultra modern Like cinematography is just very straightforward. They're not hiding anything there

[00:59:03] They're really leaning into the the bear turning to life And there and there and there is it does really seem like there is a like deeper Supernatural element where like the imaginary friend thing is like a legit demon. Yeah, basically

[00:59:16] Yeah, I didn't I didn't love it. It looks really fine. I was terrified. No it does I think I think it looks like it's a great concept to execute as a horror movie

[00:59:23] If you ever see a teddy bear sitting up at the bottom of stairs so you've not been down there Don't go downstairs. I don't understand. Don't go there. Don't go there watch the trailer and the scene comes in where They're in this new new house

[00:59:38] There's nothing in the house They open the door and it's a creepy basement and there's just the light barely shines on this bear that's sitting on the floor And looking up at you. Why would you do it immediately? What did you don't go down there?

[00:59:49] Why would you know I wouldn't go down there as a 42 year old grow man Why would you go down there? I wouldn't there's no way I would go down there. No, I wouldn't Annabelle's right there buddy. Yeah, but I mean, okay So if Annabelle like turns her head

[01:00:03] I have a one-to-one scale Annabelle doll here down in the in the podcast But but if Annabelle winks at you or turns her head. I am running out of here Didn't wink at the other time it did it did jerk up and like there's another

[01:00:16] Not at the bottom of the stairs when he was talking about I know but there's other things there the other scene in the trailer where they're the The douche nostrils at the top of the stairs this guy that clearly he's gonna get killed. He's in an upper hallway

[01:00:26] Yeah, um in in this this bear with a blanket over him for some reason is getting closer to him And he's not running away because I run at a noise in my condo

[01:00:37] I realize he's stepping on the string. Yeah, but no, but but but the string he let go of the string and it's still coming at him Yeah, because that's how the toy is. Yeah, you let it go. No. No. No. No. No. No

[01:00:48] You don't let it come at you. Yeah, because when you pull the string Nope, it is not you run. It's very run It is already like it's very clear by this point in the trailer that there's demons possessing these toys

[01:00:59] Why is everyone just being like well? Let's see if this one works out differently Gonna ask your kids how often they just find you running away from things in the house And it's probably a lot. No, but I Oh, it's just the toaster

[01:01:12] That's the problem when you become a dad you have to pretend like you're the tough guy So i'm like, oh, that's just fine. There's a spider on me. I'm not afraid of that spider

[01:01:20] I am but I don't say it. I'm gonna I'm gonna walk this son of a bitch outside Yeah, anyway, do you like spiders took care of that? Hey, hey, there's a snake there. Don't worry guys

[01:01:30] I'll get it like no. I hate snakes. I hate them, but I mean I'm the dad I gotta pretend like I don't hate them, but I hate them. I hate them. I hate them

[01:01:38] Heidi snag I don't like imagine bears. I don't like bears that I don't like imaginary bears. I don't like real snakes I did love Megan though. That was a good movie. Yeah, so you should see imagine. I'll probably see this

[01:01:48] But it's just there we go. It's terrifying. There we go. Of course. You should see it It's gonna be a lot of fun. You guys. Uh, you wanna play a game? Sure I'm gonna lose as long as you do a game song

[01:01:57] Hey, you gotta do a song for a game song game song Uh, it's called uh Good or bad bang for your buck a Christmas story. Okay. All right. All right a little long convoluted title So I'm what I'm gonna do here is I'm gonna give you

[01:02:16] Uh two movies. Okay And you're gonna go on You're I'm gonna you're gonna it's not a buzzer game So you're gonna go I'm gonna go Nate first then I go to brand the name back for them. Oh crap

[01:02:27] So you get to pick whether or not you want to do a worldwide box office gross As far as which movie got the higher? Okay. Okay, or or okay? Which movie got the better rotten tomato score? Okay. All right, so I'm not gonna give you movies

[01:02:46] You have to pick that first. Okay. Okay. This round. I'm gonna go box office this round I'm gonna go around to you two movies and you tell me which one did more or better. I guess this makes sense

[01:02:55] All right, Nate so pick pick your thing here first. Do you want to do box office? Do you want to do a rotten tomato score? Um, let's go box office. Uh, I'll take box office for 500. Okay box office

[01:03:06] It's a daily double now. This is off of wikipedia as far as what I what they consider to be a Christmas movie So I this is the top uh did the top like 30 grossing Christmas movies of all time here So I'm sorry you said box office, right?

[01:03:21] Right, Nate. Yes, right so which of these movies has the higher box office gross isn't A christmas carol the one that came out of jim carry Or dr. Seuss's how the grinch stole christmas

[01:03:39] Okay, uh, can you define how the grinch stole christmas? Which year in which which make was that the the dr. Seuss's how the grinch stole christmas Was the jim carry one? Yeah

[01:14:07] I feel like they're making a leap by calling that a Christmas movie just because that's their origin story I mean, that's what happens in the film No, no, no, no, I know but like but that's that's how he finds them

[01:14:17] But like the whole movie isn't like a Christmas movie. I mean it's set at Christmas The whole movie set at Christmas they they chopped down. I know that's how they That's how that's how Dave meets the chipmunks

[01:14:28] But is the whole movie and then the whole plot is he they help him write a song to help his career and it all happens Right then in there. It's not like six years later. They help him I'm not sure I've seen the movie I love your arguing

[01:14:40] That's a classic brad move. I've not seen the movie. Let me have a firm position on it Eat the lasagna in the film. I don't know Only because I don't remember it being advertised as like taking place at Christmas

[01:14:53] Like I it felt like it was something where like that was the established That's where they found them but then like the movie continued and like it took place at a completely different like

[01:15:01] Time home alone to lost in new york or alvin in the chipmunks alvin in the chipmunks made more money. Yes No, fucking way. It did what? Yeah, did Uh Now for the bonus point how much more millions did it make how many important how much more millions?

[01:15:35] Yeah, it doesn't matter that the half it just happens the number is 10. I think it's not 10. It's not 10 It's within 10 I was just saying you could be 20 million and you're still right. No. Oh my god

[01:15:45] Home alone to made 358 million alvin in the chipmunks made 365 million dollars worldwide. Yeah, but adjusted for inflation though Nice, no for real. I'm alone too. I'm blowing out of the fucking water

[01:16:14] How many what are you gonna do? Are you gonna go or no? It's your turn. Oh Brought in tomatoes. I wonder how many listeners are thinking like that doesn't make any

[01:16:24] Yeah, I actually don't even I'm not even sure it still makes sense because it's so you you have to you have to Guess how far away it is within 10. No, no, no, so yeah. Yeah, so you can I'm right. Yeah

[01:16:34] Yeah, no, yeah Ben's right. Yeah. Yeah, because if you guess if you guess 10 it doesn't mean it is With it actually within 10. Right? Yeah, okay. Sure. We're gonna say I'm right Uh, sorry, which one I said rotten tomatoes. All right tomatoes

[01:16:49] The original home alone. Mm-hmm or the animated the Grinch Oh, the most recent most recent the Grinch. Okay. Well that that begin. Hey, hey, brad. I'm gonna phone a friend for you

[01:17:02] Remember inflationary. He did not take into effect. No, no, I know and the Grinch was a big hit I'm gonna say the Grinch you also said this was rotten tomatoes. So I don't know. Oh, that's a good point. I don't know why

[01:17:17] Good boy, Roger ebert has passed on so in that case home alone I'm gonna say Grinch. All right. Home alone is correct. Uh, brad how many how many more percentage points? Away, I'm gonna say 17 17 11 You are within 10. So you do win. Hozah I mean within 10 though like it's 17

[01:18:16] Okay, but no christmas with the cranks. It is one of the worst christmas movies ever made All right, I would rather I would rather I would rather I said it's better than 5%

[01:18:26] I would rather better than 5% and it's wrong. No the fact that you even feel the need to defend that is what's bullshit I understand it's it could be 15% I would rather have one of my bare testicles kicked by a hot topic shoe But you like that though watch

[01:18:40] You like the cranks again. That's that's a fair you like that. No, that's ben. You know ben likes the ball hitting sup No fuck christmas with the cranks

[01:18:49] I don't like you're gonna you do this to me all the time you turn around that I like christmas with the cranks I'm saying it's better than 5% it's not though real quick. We hit balls I mentioned
